重建祭壇
3 到了七月，以色列人已安居各城，他們萬眾一心地聚集在耶路撒冷。 2 約薩達的兒子耶書亞及其他祭司、撒拉鐵的兒子所羅巴伯及其親屬，一起重新築造以色列上帝的祭壇，為要照上帝的僕人摩西在律法書上的記載在壇上獻燔祭。 3 他們雖然懼怕當地的居民，還是在原來的根基上重建祭壇，並早晚在上面向耶和華獻燔祭。 4 他們照律法書的記載守住棚節，每天按規定的數目獻上燔祭。 5 之後，他們獻上日常的燔祭，並在朔日[a]和耶和華所定的一切節期獻祭，又向耶和華獻上自願獻的祭。 6 儘管耶和華殿的根基還沒有立好，從七月一日起，他們就開始向耶和華獻燔祭。 7 他們付給石匠和木匠銀子，並經波斯王塞魯士批准，供給泰爾人和西頓人食物、酒和油，換取他們把香柏木從黎巴嫩經海路運到約帕。

Sacrifice Restored
3 When the seventh month arrived,(A) and the Israelites were in their towns, the people gathered as one in Jerusalem.(B) 2 Jeshua son of Jozadak and his brothers the priests along with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel(C) and his brothers began to build the altar of Israel’s God in order to offer burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the law of Moses, the man of God.(D) 3 They set up the altar on its foundation and offered burnt offerings for the morning and evening on it to the Lord even though they feared the surrounding peoples.(E) 4 They celebrated the Festival of Shelters as prescribed, and offered burnt offerings each day, based on the number specified by ordinance for each festival day.(F) 5 After that, they offered the regular burnt offering and the offerings for the beginning of each month[a](G) and for all the Lord’s appointed holy occasions, as well as the freewill offerings brought to[b] the Lord.
6 On the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the Lord,(H) even though the foundation of the Lord’s temple had not yet been laid. 7 They gave money to the stonecutters and artisans, and gave food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, so they would bring cedar wood from Lebanon to Joppa by sea,(I) according to the authorization given them by King Cyrus of Persia.(J)
Rebuilding the Temple
8 In the second month of the second year after they arrived at God’s house in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak,(K) and the rest of their brothers, including the priests, the Levites, and all who had returned to Jerusalem from the captivity, began to build. They appointed the Levites who were twenty years old or more to supervise the work on the Lord’s house.(L) 9 Jeshua with his sons and brothers, Kadmiel with his sons, and the sons of Judah[c] and of Henadad, with their sons and brothers, the Levites,(M) joined together to supervise those working on the house of God.
Temple Foundation Completed
10 When the builders had laid the foundation of the Lord’s temple, the priests, dressed in their robes and holding trumpets, and the Levites descended from Asaph,(N) holding cymbals, took their positions to praise the Lord, as King David of Israel had instructed.(O) 11 They sang with praise and thanksgiving to the Lord: “For he is good; his faithful love to Israel endures forever.”(P) Then all the people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord because the foundation of the Lord’s house had been laid.(Q)
12 But many of the older priests, Levites, and family heads, who had seen the first temple, wept loudly when they saw the foundation of this temple,(R) but many others shouted joyfully. 13 The people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shouting from that of the[d] weeping,(S) because the people were shouting so loudly. And the sound was heard far away.

3 När sjunde månaden[a] kom och Israels barn bodde i sina städer, samlades folket som en man i Jerusalem.
2 Jesua, Josadaks son, och hans bröder, prästerna, och Serubbabel, Sealtiels son, och hans bröder, började bygga Israels Guds altare för att offra brännoffer där, så som det var föreskrivet i gudsmannen Moses lag. 3 De uppförde altaret på dess plats, eftersom de var rädda för folken som bodde där i landet. På altaret offrade de brännoffer åt Herren, morgonens och aftonens brännoffer. 4 De firade lövhyddohögtiden, som det var föreskrivet och offrade brännoffer varje dag till ett bestämt antal. 5 Sedan offrade de det dagliga brännoffret och de offer som hörde till nymånaderna och till alla Herrens övriga helgade högtider, och alla de offer som de frivilligt bar fram åt Herren. 6 Den första dagen i sjunde månaden började de offra brännoffer åt Herren, innan grunden till Herrens tempel ännu var lagd.
Grunden till templet läggs
7 De gav pengar åt stenhuggare och snickare och även matvaror, dryckesvaror och olja till sidonierna och tyrierna, för att dessa sjövägen skulle föra cederträ från Libanon till Jafo i enlighet med det tillstånd som den persiske kungen Koresh hade givit dem. 8 I det andra årets andra månad,[b] sedan de hade kommit till Guds hus i Jerusalem, sattes arbetet igång av Serubbabel, Sealtiels son, och av Jesua, Josadaks son, och deras övriga bröder, prästerna och leviterna, och av alla dem som hade kommit till Jerusalem från fångenskapen. Det började med att de anställde de leviter som var tjugo år gamla eller mer till att leda arbetet på Herrens hus. 9 Jesua med sina söner och bröder och Kadmiel med sina söner, Juda söner, så även Henadads söner med sina söner och bröder, leviterna, åtog sig som en man att ha uppsikt över dem som arbetade på Guds hus.
10 När byggnadsarbetarna lade grunden till Herrens tempel, intog prästerna sina platser i ämbetsskrud och med trumpeter. Tillsammans med leviterna, Asafs söner, prisade de Herren med cymbaler efter den anvisning Israels kung David hade givit. 11 De sjöng lov och pris till Herren: "Han är god, hans nåd mot Israel varar i evighet." Hela folket jublade högt och prisade Herren för att grunden till Herrens hus var lagd. 12 Men många av prästerna och leviterna och huvudmännen för familjerna, de gamla som hade sett det förra huset, grät högt när de såg grunden läggas till detta hus. Många andra jublade och var så glada att de ropade med hög röst. 13 Man kunde inte skilja mellan det högljudda, glada jubelropet och folkets högljudda gråt, ty folket ropade så högt att ljudet hördes vida omkring.
