ความชั่วร้ายในแผ่นดิน
7 พระผู้เป็นเจ้ากล่าวกับเยเรมีย์ดังนี้ว่า 2 “จงยืนที่ประตูพระตำหนักของพระผู้เป็นเจ้า และประกาศคำกล่าวว่า ชาวยูดาห์ทั้งปวงที่เข้าทางประตู เพื่อนมัสการพระผู้เป็นเจ้า จงฟังคำกล่าวของพระผู้เป็นเจ้า” 3 พระผู้เป็นเจ้าจอมโยธา พระเจ้าของอิสราเอลกล่าวดังนี้ว่า “จงเปลี่ยนวิถีทางและการกระทำของพวกเจ้า และเราจะให้เจ้าอาศัยอยู่ในที่แห่งนี้ 4 อย่าวางใจในคำที่ลวงหลอกที่ว่า ‘นี่เป็นพระวิหารของพระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระวิหารของพระผู้เป็นเจ้า พระวิหารของพระผู้เป็นเจ้า’
5 เพราะว่าถ้าพวกเจ้าเปลี่ยนวิถีทางและการกระทำของเจ้าจริงๆ ถ้าเจ้าปฏิบัติด้วยความเป็นธรรมต่อกันและกัน 6 ถ้าเจ้าไม่กดขี่ข่มเหงผู้ลี้ภัย ผู้กำพร้าพ่อ หรือแม่ม่าย หรือฆ่าคนไร้ความผิดในที่แห่งนี้ และถ้าพวกเจ้าไม่ไปติดตามบรรดาเทพเจ้าซึ่งเป็นอันตรายต่อตัวเจ้าเอง 7 แล้วเราก็จะให้พวกเจ้าอาศัยอยู่ในที่แห่งนี้ ในแผ่นดินที่เรามอบให้แก่บรรพบุรุษของเจ้าตลอดกาล[a]
8 ดูเถิด เจ้าไว้วางใจในคำที่ลวงหลอกซึ่งไม่เกิดผลอะไร 9 พวกเจ้าขโมย ฆ่า ผิดประเวณี พูดเท็จในคำสาบาน เผาเครื่องหอมแก่เทพเจ้าบาอัล ไปติดตามบรรดาเทพเจ้า ซึ่งเจ้าไม่เคยรู้จัก 10 แล้วเจ้ามายืนต่อหน้าเราในตำหนักนี้ ซึ่งได้รับเรียกว่าเป็นของเรา และพวกเจ้าพูดว่า ‘พวกเราปลอดภัย’ แต่ก็ยังกระทำสิ่งที่น่ารังเกียจเหล่านี้ต่อไปอีกอย่างนั้นหรือ 11 ตำหนักอันเป็นที่นมัสการเรานี้ ได้รับเรียกว่าเป็นของเรา กลายเป็นถ้ำโจร[b]ในสายตาของเจ้าหรือ ดูเถิด เราเองได้เห็นว่าเป็นเช่นนั้นแล้ว” พระผู้เป็นเจ้าประกาศดังนั้น 12 “บัดนี้เจ้าจงไปยังสถานที่ของเราในเมืองชิโลห์[c] ซึ่งในตอนแรกชื่อของเราอยู่ที่นั่น และไปดูว่าเราได้ทำอะไรต่อสถานที่นั้นเนื่องจากความชั่วของอิสราเอลชนชาติของเรา 13 พระผู้เป็นเจ้าประกาศว่า และบัดนี้ เป็นเพราะพวกเจ้าได้กระทำสิ่งเหล่านี้ และเราก็ได้พูดกับพวกเจ้าเสมอมา แต่เจ้าก็ไม่ยอมฟัง เมื่อเราเรียกเจ้า เจ้าก็ไม่ตอบ 14 ฉะนั้น เราจะกระทำต่อตำหนักซึ่งได้รับเรียกว่าเป็นของเรา และเป็นที่เจ้าไว้วางใจ และจะกระทำต่อสถานที่ซึ่งเรามอบให้แก่เจ้าและแก่บรรพบุรุษของเจ้า ดังที่เราได้กระทำต่อชิโลห์ 15 และเราจะขับไล่พวกเจ้าไปให้พ้นหน้าเรา อย่างที่เราขับไล่บรรดาญาติพี่น้องของเจ้า คือเชื้อสายของเอฟราอิมทุกคน

หุบเขาแห่งการประหาร
30 พระผู้เป็นเจ้ากล่าวดังนี้ “เพราะบรรดาบุตรแห่งยูดาห์ได้กระทำความชั่วในสายตาของเรา พวกเขาได้ตั้งสิ่งที่น่าชังของพวกเขาไว้ในตำหนักซึ่งได้รับเรียกว่าเป็นของเรา และทำให้ที่นั้นเป็นมลทิน 31 และพวกเขาได้สร้างแท่นบูชาที่สถานบูชาบนภูเขาสูงแห่งโทเฟท ซึ่งอยู่ในหุบเขาแห่งบุตรของฮินโนม ใช้ไฟเผาบรรดาบุตรชายบุตรหญิง ซึ่งเราไม่ได้บัญชาให้ทำ หรือแม้แต่จะคิด 32 ฉะนั้น พระผู้เป็นเจ้าประกาศว่า ดูเถิด ใกล้จะถึงเวลาที่จะไม่มีชื่อว่า โทเฟท อีกแล้ว หรือหุบเขาแห่งบุตรของฮินโนม แต่จะเป็นหุบเขาแห่งการประหาร เพราะพวกเขาจะฝังศพในโทเฟท เพราะไม่มีที่อื่นจะฝัง 33 และศพคนตายของคนเหล่านี้จะเป็นอาหารของพวกนกในอากาศ และของสัตว์ป่าบนแผ่นดิน และจะไม่มีใครทำให้พวกสัตว์ตกใจหนีไป 34 และเราจะทำให้เสียงยินดีและเบิกบานใจ เสียงของเจ้าบ่าวและเจ้าสาวในเมืองต่างๆ ของยูดาห์และที่ถนนของเยรูซาเล็มยุติลง เพราะแผ่นดินจะกลายเป็นที่ร้าง

7 นี่คือถ้อยคำที่เยเรมียาห์ได้รับจากพระยาห์เวห์ คือ
2 “เยเรมียาห์ ให้ไปยืนอยู่ในประตูวิหารของพระยาห์เวห์ และประกาศข้อความนี้ออกไป
‘พวกเจ้าชาวยูดาห์ทั้งหลายที่กำลังเดินผ่านประตูนี้เข้ามาเพื่อนมัสการพระยาห์เวห์ ฟังสิ่งที่พระยาห์เวห์พูดให้ดี 3 นี่คือสิ่งที่พระยาห์เวห์ผู้มีฤทธิ์ทั้งสิ้น ผู้เป็นพระเจ้าแห่งอิสราเอลพูด “ถ้าเจ้าทำตัวดี เราก็จะอาศัยอยู่ที่นี่กับเจ้า 4 อย่าไปหลงเชื่อคำพูดที่หลอกลวงเหล่านั้น ที่ว่า ‘นี่เป็นวิหารของพระยาห์เวห์ วิหารของพระยาห์เวห์ วิหารของพระยาห์เวห์’[a] 5 แต่ถ้าเจ้าทำให้วิถีทางและการกระทำต่างๆของเจ้าดีจริงๆ และให้ความเป็นธรรมต่อกันและกัน 6 ถ้าเจ้าไม่กดขี่คนต่างถิ่น เด็กกำพร้า และแม่หม้าย ถ้าเจ้าไม่ทำให้เลือดของผู้บริสุทธิ์ต้องหลั่งไหลในที่แห่งนี้ และถ้าเจ้าไม่นมัสการพระอื่นๆเพราะมันมีแต่จะทำให้เจ้าเจ็บตัวเปล่าๆ 7 เราก็จะยอมให้เจ้าอาศัยอยู่ในที่แห่งนี้ ในดินแดนที่เราได้มอบให้กับบรรพบุรุษของเจ้าไว้ตลอดไป”’”
8 “เจ้ากำลังไว้วางใจในคำพูดที่หลอกลวงที่ไร้ค่าเหล่านั้น 9 เจ้าไปขโมย ไปฆ่า ไปมีชู้ ไปสัญญาที่เจ้าไม่คิดจะรักษา ไปเผาเครื่องหอมให้พระบาอัล และไปบูชาพระอื่นๆที่เจ้าไม่รู้จัก 10 แล้วกลับมายืนอยู่ต่อหน้าวิหารนี้ ที่มีชื่อของเราอยู่ แล้วพวกเจ้าก็พูดว่า ‘พวกเราได้รับความรอดแล้ว’ อย่างนั้นหรือ ที่เจ้าทำอย่างนี้ ก็เพื่อเจ้าจะได้กลับไปทำเรื่องชั่วช้าพวกนั้นอีกใช่ไหม 11 เจ้าเห็นวิหารนี้ ที่มีชื่อเราตั้งอยู่ กลายเป็นซ่องโจรไปแล้วใช่ไหม แม้แต่เราเองก็ยังเห็นมันเป็นอย่างนั้นเลย” พระยาห์เวห์พูดว่าอย่างนั้น

16 “ส่วนเจ้าเยเรมียาห์ ไม่ต้องอธิษฐานเผื่อคนกลุ่มนี้ และไม่ต้องร้องไห้ให้พวกเขาด้วย เจ้าไม่ต้องอธิษฐานต่อเราให้กับพวกเขา เพราะคำอธิษฐานจะมาไม่ถึงเรา เราจะไม่ฟังเจ้า 17 เจ้าไม่เห็นหรือยังไง ว่าพวกมันกำลังทำอะไรในเมืองยูดาห์และตามท้องถนนของเมืองเยรูซาเล็ม 18 พวกลูกๆกำลังเก็บฟืน ส่วนพวกพ่อกำลังจุดไฟ พวกผู้หญิงกำลังนวดแป้งทำขนมปังสำหรับเจ้าแม่แห่งสวรรค์ และกำลังเทเครื่องดื่มบูชาถวายพระอื่นๆเพื่อยั่วโมโหเรา” 19 พระยาห์เวห์พูดว่า “พวกเขาคิดว่ากำลังยั่วโมโหเราหรือ ไม่เลย อันที่จริง พวกเขากำลังทำกับตัวเองต่างหาก พวกเขาถึงต้องอับอายขายหน้า”
20 ดังนั้นนี่คือสิ่งที่พระยาห์เวห์ เจ้านายของผมพูดคือ “ความโกรธและความแค้นของเรากำลังจะเทออกมายังวิหารนี้ เทใส่ทั้งคน สัตว์ ต้นไม้ตามท้องทุ่ง และผลผลิตจากพื้นดิน ความโกรธของเราจะเผาไหม้อยู่ และจะไม่มีวันดับ”

24 “แต่พวกเขาไม่ยอมฟัง และทำเป็นหูทวนลม กลับไปทำตามความต้องการชั่วๆของตัวเอง พวกเขากลับเดินถอยหลังแทนที่จะเดินไปข้างหน้า 25 ตั้งแต่วันนั้นที่บรรพบุรุษของเจ้าออกมาจากแผ่นดินอียิปต์ จนถึงวันนี้ เราได้ส่งพวกผู้รับใช้ของเรา พวกผู้พูดแทนพระเจ้า ไปหาพวกเจ้าทุกวัน 26 แต่พวกเขาไม่ยอมฟังเรา และไม่ยอมเงี่ยหูฟัง พวกเขาดื้อดึงหัวแข็ง พวกเขาชั่วร้ายยิ่งกว่าบรรพบุรุษของพวกเขาเสียอีก”
27 “เยเรมียาห์ เจ้าจะเอาคำพูดทั้งหมดนี้ไปบอกกับพวกเขา แต่พวกเขาจะไม่ฟังเจ้า เจ้าจะเรียกพวกเขา แต่พวกเขาจะไม่ตอบเจ้า 28 เจ้าจะต้องบอกกับพวกเขาว่า ‘นี่คือชนชาติที่ไม่ยอมฟังเสียงของพระยาห์เวห์ พระเจ้าของเขา และไม่ยอมรับการตีสอนจากพระองค์ ความจริงได้ตายไปเสียแล้ว และมันก็หายไปจากปากของพวกเขา’”

Trusting in Lying Words(A)
7 The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying, 2 (B)“Stand in the gate of the Lord’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, ‘Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who enter in at these gates to worship the Lord!’ ” 3 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: (C)“Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. 4 (D)Do not trust in these lying words, saying, ‘The temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord are these.’
5 “For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly (E)execute [a]judgment between a man and his neighbor, 6 if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, (F)or walk after other gods to your hurt, 7 (G)then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in (H)the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.
8 “Behold, you trust in (I)lying words that cannot profit. 9 (J)Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, burn incense to Baal, and (K)walk after other gods whom you do not know, 10 (L)and then come and stand before Me in this house (M)which is called by My name, and say, ‘We are delivered to do all these abominations’? 11 Has (N)this house, which is called by My name, become a (O)den of thieves in your eyes? Behold, I, even I, have seen it,” says the Lord.
12 “But go now to (P)My place which was in Shiloh, (Q)where I set My name at the first, and see (R)what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel. 13 And now, because you have done all these works,” says the Lord, “and I spoke to you, (S)rising up early and speaking, but you did not hear, and I (T)called you, but you did not answer, 14 therefore I will do to the house which is called by My name, in which you trust, and to this place which I gave to you and your fathers, as I have done to (U)Shiloh. 15 And I will cast you out of My sight, (V)as I have cast out all your brethren—(W)the whole posterity of Ephraim.
16 “Therefore (X)do not pray for this people, nor lift up a cry or prayer for them, nor make intercession to Me; (Y)for I will not hear you. 17 Do you not see what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 18 (Z)The children gather wood, the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven; and they (AA)pour out drink offerings to other gods, that they may provoke Me to anger. 19 (AB)Do they provoke Me to anger?” says the Lord. “Do they not provoke themselves, to the shame of their own faces?”
20 Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Behold, My anger and My fury will be poured out on this place—on man and on beast, on the trees of the field and on the fruit of the ground. And it will burn and not be quenched.”
21 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: (AC)“Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat meat. 22 (AD)For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. 23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, (AE)‘Obey My voice, and (AF)I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’ 24 (AG)Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but (AH)followed[b] the counsels and the [c]dictates of their evil hearts, and (AI)went[d] backward and not forward. 25 Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have even (AJ)sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them. 26 (AK)Yet they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but (AL)stiffened their neck. (AM)They did worse than their fathers.
27 “Therefore (AN)you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not obey you. You shall also call to them, but they will not answer you.

28 “So you shall say to them, ‘This is a nation that does not obey the voice of the Lord their God (AO)nor receive correction. (AP)Truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth. 29 (AQ)Cut off your hair and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on the desolate heights; for the Lord has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.’ 30 For the children of Judah have done evil in My sight,” says the Lord. (AR)“They have set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to [e]pollute it. 31 And they have built the (AS)high places of Tophet, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to (AT)burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, (AU)which I did not command, nor did it come into My heart.
32 “Therefore behold, (AV)the days are coming,” says the Lord, “when it will no more be called Tophet, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter; (AW)for they will bury in Tophet until there is no room. 33 The (AX)corpses of this people will be food for the birds of the heaven and for the beasts of the earth. And no one will frighten them away. 34 Then I will cause to (AY)cease from the cities of Judah and from the streets of Jerusalem the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. For (AZ)the land shall be desolate.

7 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: 2 “Stand(A) at the gate of the Lord’s house and there proclaim this message:
“‘Hear the word of the Lord, all you people of Judah who come through these gates to worship the Lord. 3 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Reform your ways(B) and your actions, and I will let you live(C) in this place. 4 Do not trust(D) in deceptive(E) words and say, “This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord!” 5 If you really change(F) your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly,(G) 6 if you do not oppress(H) the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood(I) in this place, and if you do not follow other gods(J) to your own harm, 7 then I will let you live in this place, in the land(K) I gave your ancestors(L) for ever and ever. 8 But look, you are trusting(M) in deceptive(N) words that are worthless.
9 “‘Will you steal(O) and murder,(P) commit adultery(Q) and perjury,[a](R) burn incense to Baal(S) and follow other gods(T) you have not known, 10 and then come and stand(U) before me in this house,(V) which bears my Name, and say, “We are safe”—safe to do all these detestable things?(W) 11 Has this house,(X) which bears my Name, become a den of robbers(Y) to you? But I have been watching!(Z) declares the Lord.
12 “‘Go now to the place in Shiloh(AA) where I first made a dwelling(AB) for my Name,(AC) and see what I did(AD) to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel. 13 While you were doing all these things, declares the Lord, I spoke(AE) to you again and again,(AF) but you did not listen;(AG) I called(AH) you, but you did not answer.(AI) 14 Therefore, what I did to Shiloh(AJ) I will now do to the house that bears my Name,(AK) the temple(AL) you trust in, the place I gave to you and your ancestors. 15 I will thrust you from my presence,(AM) just as I did all your fellow Israelites, the people of Ephraim.’(AN)
16 “So do not pray for this people nor offer any plea(AO) or petition for them; do not plead with me, for I will not listen(AP) to you. 17 Do you not see what they are doing in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? 18 The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes to offer to the Queen of Heaven.(AQ) They pour out drink offerings(AR) to other gods to arouse(AS) my anger. 19 But am I the one they are provoking?(AT) declares the Lord. Are they not rather harming themselves, to their own shame?(AU)
20 “‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign(AV) Lord says: My anger(AW) and my wrath will be poured(AX) out on this place—on man and beast, on the trees of the field and on the crops of your land—and it will burn and not be quenched.(AY)
21 “‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Go ahead, add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices(AZ) and eat(BA) the meat yourselves! 22 For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands(BB) about burnt offerings and sacrifices,(BC) 23 but I gave them this command:(BD) Obey(BE) me, and I will be your God and you will be my people.(BF) Walk in obedience to all(BG) I command you, that it may go well(BH) with you. 24 But they did not listen(BI) or pay attention;(BJ) instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts.(BK) They went backward(BL) and not forward. 25 From the time your ancestors left Egypt until now, day after day, again and again(BM) I sent you my servants(BN) the prophets.(BO) 26 But they did not listen to me or pay attention.(BP) They were stiff-necked(BQ) and did more evil than their ancestors.’(BR)
27 “When you tell(BS) them all this, they will not listen(BT) to you; when you call to them, they will not answer.(BU) 28 Therefore say to them, ‘This is the nation that has not obeyed the Lord its God or responded to correction.(BV) Truth(BW) has perished; it has vanished from their lips.
29 “‘Cut off(BX) your hair and throw it away; take up a lament(BY) on the barren heights, for the Lord has rejected and abandoned(BZ) this generation that is under his wrath.
The Valley of Slaughter
30 “‘The people of Judah have done evil(CA) in my eyes, declares the Lord. They have set up their detestable idols(CB) in the house that bears my Name and have defiled(CC) it. 31 They have built the high places of Topheth(CD) in the Valley of Ben Hinnom(CE) to burn their sons and daughters(CF) in the fire—something I did not command, nor did it enter my mind.(CG) 32 So beware, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when people will no longer call it Topheth or the Valley of Ben Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter,(CH) for they will bury(CI) the dead in Topheth until there is no more room. 33 Then the carcasses(CJ) of this people will become food(CK) for the birds and the wild animals, and there will be no one to frighten them away.(CL) 34 I will bring an end to the sounds(CM) of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and bridegroom(CN) in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem,(CO) for the land will become desolate.(CP)

29 Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the Lord hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.
