5 (A)В онзи ден Девора и Варак, Авиноамовият син, пееха с думите:
2 (B)Затова, че в Израил водителството взеха военачалниците,
затова, че народът се предаде доброволно,
хвалете Господа.
3 (C)Чуйте, царе! Дайте ухо, първенци!
Ще пея, аз ще пея на Господа;
на Господа, Израилевия Бог, ще пея хвала.
4 (D)Господи, когато Ти излезе от Сиир,
когато тръгна от полето Едом,
земята се потресе, също и небето поръси,
ей, облаците поръсиха вода.
5 (E)Планините се разтопиха от присъствието Господне,
самият Синай – от присъствието на Господа, Израилевия Бог.
6 (F)В дните на Самегар, сина на Анат,
в дните на Яил пътищата бяха напуснати
и пътниците вървяха по пътеки настрана.
7 (G)Престанаха управниците в Израил; престанаха,
докато се въздигнах аз, Девора,
въздигнах се майка в Израил.
8 (H)Избраха си нови богове;
тогава настана бой в портите;
но видя ли се щит или копие
между четиридесет хиляди в Израил?
9 (I)Сърцето ми е към началниците на Израил,
които между народа предадоха себе си доброволно.
Хвалете Господа!
10 (J)Вие, които яздите на бели осли,
вие, които седите на меки постелки,
и вие, които ходите по път, възвестете това!
11 (K)Далеч от кипежа на стрелците[a],
на места, където черпят вода,
там да възхваляват правдините на Господа,

спуснаха се след него в долината.
При потоците на Рувим
велики бяха сърдечните решения.
16 (P)Защо си седнал между оградите
да слушаш блеенето на[b] стадата?
При потоците на Рувим
големи бяха сърдечните изпитания.
17 (Q)Галаад мируваше оттатък Йордан;
и Дан защо стоеше в корабите?
Асир седеше в крайбрежията
и мируваше в заливчетата си.
18 (R)Завулон са народ, които изложиха живота си на смърт.
Също и Нефталим – по опасните[c] места на полето.
19 (S)Дойдоха царете, воюваха;
тогава воюваха ханаанските царе
в Таанах, близо до водите на Магедон;
пари не взеха.
20 (T)От небето воюваха;
звездите от пътищата си воюваха против Сисара.
21 (U)Реката Кисон ги завлече,
старата река, реката Кисон,
стъпкала си мощ, душо моя.
22 Тогава се счупиха конските копита
от стремителното тичане – стремителното тичане на силните им.
23 (V)Кълнете Мироз, каза ангелът Господен,
горчиво кълнете жителите му,
защото не дойдоха на помощ на Господа,
на помощ на Господа против силните.

29 Мъдрите нейни придворни жени ѝ отговаряха,
даже и тя даваше отговор на себе си:
30 (Z)Не са ли намерили и не делят ли сега плячка?
По мома, по две моми на всеки мъж;
на Сисара плячка от пъстроцветни дрехи,
плячка от пъстроцветни везани дрехи,
от пъстроцветни дрехи, везани и от двете страни,
свалени от раменете на пленените.
31 (AA)Така да погинат всички твои врагове, Господи;
а онези, които Те обичат, да бъдат като слънцето, когато изгрява в силата си.

3 Чуйте, царе! дайте ухо, първенци! Ще пея, аз ще пея, Господу; На Господа Бога Израилева ще пея хвала.
4 Господи, когато излезе Ти от Сиир, Когато тръгна от полето Едом Земята се потресе, също и небето покапа, Ей, облаците покапаха вода.
5 Планините се разтопиха от присъствието Господно, Самият Синай от присъствието на Господа Бога Израилева.
6 В дните на Самегара Анатовия син, В дните на Яил, пътищата бяха напуснати, И пътниците вървяха по пътеки настрана.
7 Престанаха управниците в Израиля, престанаха До като се въздигнах аз Девора, Въздигнах се майка в Израиля.
8 Избраха си нови богове; Тогава настана бой в портите; Но видя ли се щит или копие Между четиридесетте хиляди в Израиля?
9 Сърцето ми е към началниците на Израиля, Които между людете предадоха себе си доброволно. Хвалете Господа!

Deborah’s Song
5 On that day Deborah and Barak son of Abinoam sang:
2 When the leaders lead[a] in Israel,
when the people volunteer,
blessed be the Lord.
3 Listen, kings! Pay attention, princes!
I will sing to the Lord;
I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.
4 Lord, when you came from Seir,(A)
when you marched from the fields of Edom,
the earth trembled,(B)
the skies poured(C) rain,
and the clouds poured water.
5 The mountains melted before the Lord,
even Sinai,[b] before the Lord, the God of Israel.(D)
6 In the days of Shamgar(E) son of Anath,
in the days of Jael,(F)
the main roads were deserted
because travellers kept to the side roads.
7 Villages were deserted,[c]
they were deserted in Israel,
until I,[d] Deborah, arose,
a mother in Israel.
8 Israel chose new gods,
then there was war in the city gates.
Not a shield or spear was seen
among forty thousand in Israel.
9 My heart is with the leaders of Israel,
with the volunteers of the people.
Blessed be the Lord!
10 You who ride on white[e] donkeys,
who sit on saddle blankets,
and who travel on the road, give praise!
11 Let them tell the righteous acts(G) of the Lord,
the righteous deeds of his villagers in Israel,
with the voices of the singers at the watering places.[f]
Then the Lord’s people went down to the city gates.
12 ‘Awake! Awake, Deborah!
Awake! Awake, sing a song!
Arise, Barak,
and take your prisoners,
son of Abinoam! ’
13 Then the survivors(H) came down to the nobles;(I)
the Lord’s people came down to me[g] against the warriors.
14 Those with their roots in Amalek[h] came from Ephraim;
Benjamin came with your people after you.
The leaders came down from Machir,(J)
and those who carry a recruiter’s staff came from Zebulun.
15 The princes of Issachar were with Deborah;
Issachar was with Barak;
they were under his leadership[i](K) in the valley.
There was great searching[j] of heart
among the clans of Reuben.
16 Why did you sit among the sheepfolds[k]
listening to the playing of pipes for the flocks?
There was great searching of heart
among the clans of Reuben.
17 Gilead(L) remained beyond the Jordan.
Dan, why did you linger at the ships?
Asher remained at the seashore
and stayed in his harbours.
18 The people of Zebulun defied death,
Naphtali also, on the heights of the battlefield.
19 Kings came and fought.
Then the kings of Canaan fought
at Taanach by the Waters of Megiddo,
but they did not plunder the silver.
20 The stars fought from the heavens;
the stars fought with Sisera from their paths.
21 The river Kishon swept them away,(M)
the ancient river, the river Kishon.
March on, my soul, in strength!
22 The horses’ hooves then hammered –
the galloping, galloping of his[l] stallions.
23 ‘Curse Meroz,’ says the angel of the Lord,
‘Bitterly curse her inhabitants,
for they did not come to help the Lord,
to help the Lord with the warriors.’
24 Most blessed of women is Jael,
the wife of Heber the Kenite;
she is most blessed among tent-dwelling women.
25 He asked for water; she gave him milk.
She brought him cream(N) in a majestic bowl.
26 She reached for a tent peg,
her right hand, for a workman’s hammer.
Then she hammered Sisera –
she crushed his head;
she shattered and pierced his temple.
27 He collapsed, he fell, he lay down between her feet;
he collapsed, he fell between her feet;
where he collapsed, there he fell – dead.
28 Sisera’s mother looked through the window;
she peered through the lattice, crying out:
‘Why is his chariot so long in coming?
Why don’t I hear the hoofbeats of his horses? ’[m]
29 Her wisest princesses answer her;
she even answers herself:
30 ‘Are they not finding and dividing the spoil –
a girl or two[n] for each warrior,
the spoil of coloured garments for Sisera,
the spoil of an embroidered garment or two for my neck? ’[o]
31 Lord, may all your enemies perish as Sisera did.[p]
But may those who love him
be like the rising of the sun in its strength.
And the land had peace for forty years.

5 Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying,
2 Praise ye the Lord for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves.
3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.
4 Lord, when thou wentest out of Seir, when thou marchedst out of the field of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped, the clouds also dropped water.
5 The mountains melted from before the Lord, even that Sinai from before the Lord God of Israel.
6 In the days of Shamgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jael, the highways were unoccupied, and the travellers walked through byways.
7 The inhabitants of the villages ceased, they ceased in Israel, until that I Deborah arose, that I arose a mother in Israel.
8 They chose new gods; then was war in the gates: was there a shield or spear seen among forty thousand in Israel?
9 My heart is toward the governors of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless ye the Lord.
10 Speak, ye that ride on white asses, ye that sit in judgment, and walk by the way.
11 They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the Lord, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the Lord go down to the gates.
12 Awake, awake, Deborah: awake, awake, utter a song: arise, Barak, and lead thy captivity captive, thou son of Abinoam.
13 Then he made him that remaineth have dominion over the nobles among the people: the Lord made me have dominion over the mighty.
14 Out of Ephraim was there a root of them against Amalek; after thee, Benjamin, among thy people; out of Machir came down governors, and out of Zebulun they that handle the pen of the writer.
15 And the princes of Issachar were with Deborah; even Issachar, and also Barak: he was sent on foot into the valley. For the divisions of Reuben there were great thoughts of heart.
16 Why abodest thou among the sheepfolds, to hear the bleatings of the flocks? For the divisions of Reuben there were great searchings of heart.
17 Gilead abode beyond Jordan: and why did Dan remain in ships? Asher continued on the sea shore, and abode in his breaches.
18 Zebulun and Naphtali were a people that jeoparded their lives unto the death in the high places of the field.
19 The kings came and fought, then fought the kings of Canaan in Taanach by the waters of Megiddo; they took no gain of money.
20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.
21 The river of Kishon swept them away, that ancient river, the river Kishon. O my soul, thou hast trodden down strength.
22 Then were the horsehoofs broken by the means of the pransings, the pransings of their mighty ones.
23 Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the Lord, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the Lord, to the help of the Lord against the mighty.
24 Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.
25 He asked water, and she gave him milk; she brought forth butter in a lordly dish.
26 She put her hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workmen's hammer; and with the hammer she smote Sisera, she smote off his head, when she had pierced and stricken through his temples.
27 At her feet he bowed, he fell, he lay down: at her feet he bowed, he fell: where he bowed, there he fell down dead.
28 The mother of Sisera looked out at a window, and cried through the lattice, Why is his chariot so long in coming? why tarry the wheels of his chariots?
29 Her wise ladies answered her, yea, she returned answer to herself,
30 Have they not sped? have they not divided the prey; to every man a damsel or two; to Sisera a prey of divers colours, a prey of divers colours of needlework, of divers colours of needlework on both sides, meet for the necks of them that take the spoil?
31 So let all thine enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love him be as the sun when he goeth forth in his might. And the land had rest forty years.
