2 Посоромтеся та застидайтесь, народе без сорому,
2 поки народиться установлене, мине день, як полова! поки не прийде на вас лютість гніву Господнього, поки не прийде на вас день Господнього гніву!
3 Шукайте Господа, всі покірні землі, хто виконує право Його! Шукайте правди, шукайте смирення, може будете сховані ви в день Господнього гніву!
4 Бо покинута буде Азза, а Ашкелон опустошенням стане, Ашдод опівдня його виженуть, а Екрон буде вирваний.
5 Горе мешканцям довкілля морського, народові критському! Слово Господнє на вас, хананеї, краю филистимлян, Я тебе вигублю так, що не буде мешканця!
6 І буде довкілля морське пасовищами, повними ям пастухів та кошар для отари,
7 і буде оце побережжя останкові дому Юдиного, на них пасти будуть, у домах Ашкелону ввечорі будуть лягати, бо їх відвідає Господь, їхній Бог, і Він їхню долю приверне.
8 Чув Я ганьбу Моавову й образи Аммонових синів, які ображали народ Мій і чванилися над границею їхньою.
9 Тому як живий Я! говорить Господь Саваот, Бог Ізраїлів, стане Моав як Содом, а Аммонові сини як Гоморра: землею тернини, і солончаком, і навіки спустошенням! Пограбує їх решта народу Мого, а залишок люду Мого їх посяде.
10 Оце їм за їхню пиху, бо вони ображали й чванилися проти народу Господа Саваота.
11 Господь буде грізний проти них, бо Він знищить всіх богів землі, і вклонятися будуть Йому кожен з місця свого, усі острови тих народів.
12 Також ви, етіопляни, побиті мечем Моїм будете.
13 І на північ простягне Він руку Свою, та й погубить Ашшура, і Ніневію учинить спустошенням, суходолом, мов ту пустелю.
14 І будуть лежати серед неї стада, усяка польова звірина, і пелікан, і їжак будуть ночувати на мистецьких прикрасах її, сова буде кричати в вікні, на порозі ворона, бо віддерто кедрину його.
15 Оце оте радісне місто, що безпечно живе, що говорить у серці своєму: Я, і немає вже більше нікого! Як стало воно опустошенням, леговищем для звірини! Кожен, хто буде проходить повз нього, засвище, своєю рукою махне!

Бог просить людей змінити своє життя
2 Люди безсоромні,
змініть серця свої,
2 поки вас не розвіяли, мов полову,
що зникає за день,
поки палкий гнів Господній
не впав на вас,
поки день Господнього гніву
не настав для вас.
3 Господа шукайте, всі ви, сумирні краю цього,
ви, хто дотримувалися настанов Господніх.
Шукайте праведності й покори!
Шукайте, можливо ви знайдете схованку
у день Господнього гніву.
Господь покарає сусідів Ізраїлю
4 Бо Ґазу буде покинуто, Ашкелон зруйновано,
опівдні Ашдод буде спустошено,
а Екрон[a] викорінено[b].
5 Горе тим филистимлянам, хто живе біля моря,
горе народу критському[c]!
Слово Господа—проти вас:
«Ханаане, земле филистимська, Я тебе зруйную,
Я вигублю всіх мешканців твоїх».
6 Приморські землі пасовиськом стануть,
притулком для пастухів, кошарами для овець.
7 Край цей належатиме решткам народу Юдеї.
Вони випасатимуть там худобу.
Увечері вони лягатимуть спати у будинках Ашкелона,
бо Господь їхній Бог дбатиме про них
і віддасть їм те, що було забране від них.
8 «Я чув докори Моава й образи аммонійців,
що вони кидали Моєму народу,
і як вони вихвалялися тим, що забирали їхні землі,
щоб приєднати їх до своїх кордонів.
9 Тому так само правда, як те, що Я є,—
говорить Господь Всемогутній, Бог Ізраїлю,—
Моав спіткає доля Содома,
а аммонійців—доля Ґоморри.
Тоді земля заросте бур’янами,
вкриється сіллю, як у Мертвому морі,
і стане пусткою навіки.
Решта Мого народу захопить їх,
ті, хто лишилися з народу Мого, успадкують їх».
10 Ось що матимуть вони за пиху свою,
бо ображали народ Господа Всевишнього
і збиткувалися з нього.
11 Господь страшним їм стане,
бо винищить усіх ідолів землі.
І тоді всі народи світу вклоняться низько Йому,
кожен у своєму домі, в кожному далекому краю.
12 «Навіть ви, ефіопи, поляжете від Мого меча»,—
каже Господь.
13 Він простягне руку Свою на північ
і знищить Ассирію.
Він з Ниневії зробить руїну,
суху, немов пустеля.
14 Тоді отари й усіляка звірина
спочиватимуть посеред неї.
Сови кричатимуть у вікна
і ворони сидітимуть на одвірках;
чорні птахи будуть вити гнізда в тих безлюдних,
порожніх будівлях.
15 Ниневія—це таке пихате місто,
що так собі безпечно живе,
але воно стане такою пусткою,
що тільки дикі звірі мешкатимуть там.
Кожен, хто повз нього йде,
присвисне і махне рукою, дивлячись,
якою руїною воно стало.

Judah and Jerusalem Judged Along With the Nations
Judah Summoned to Repent
2 Gather together,(A) gather yourselves together,
you shameful(B) nation,
2 before the decree takes effect
and that day passes like windblown chaff,(C)
before the Lord’s fierce anger(D)
comes upon you,
before the day of the Lord’s wrath(E)
comes upon you.
3 Seek(F) the Lord, all you humble of the land,
you who do what he commands.
Seek righteousness,(G) seek humility;(H)
perhaps you will be sheltered(I)
on the day of the Lord’s anger.
Philistia
4 Gaza(J) will be abandoned
and Ashkelon(K) left in ruins.
At midday Ashdod will be emptied
and Ekron uprooted.
5 Woe to you who live by the sea,
you Kerethite(L) people;
the word of the Lord is against you,(M)
Canaan, land of the Philistines.
He says, “I will destroy you,
and none will be left.”(N)
6 The land by the sea will become pastures
having wells for shepherds
and pens for flocks.(O)
7 That land will belong
to the remnant(P) of the people of Judah;
there they will find pasture.
In the evening they will lie down
in the houses of Ashkelon.
The Lord their God will care for them;
he will restore their fortunes.[a](Q)
Moab and Ammon
8 “I have heard the insults(R) of Moab(S)
and the taunts of the Ammonites,(T)
who insulted(U) my people
and made threats against their land.(V)
9 Therefore, as surely as I live,”
declares the Lord Almighty,
the God of Israel,
“surely Moab(W) will become like Sodom,(X)
the Ammonites(Y) like Gomorrah—
a place of weeds and salt pits,
a wasteland forever.
The remnant of my people will plunder(Z) them;
the survivors(AA) of my nation will inherit their land.(AB)”
10 This is what they will get in return for their pride,(AC)
for insulting(AD) and mocking
the people of the Lord Almighty.(AE)
11 The Lord will be awesome(AF) to them
when he destroys all the gods(AG) of the earth.(AH)
Distant nations will bow down to him,(AI)
all of them in their own lands.

Assyria
13 He will stretch out his hand against the north
and destroy Assyria,(AL)
leaving Nineveh(AM) utterly desolate
and dry as the desert.(AN)
14 Flocks and herds(AO) will lie down there,
creatures of every kind.
The desert owl(AP) and the screech owl(AQ)
will roost on her columns.
Their hooting will echo through the windows,
rubble will fill the doorways,
the beams of cedar will be exposed.
15 This is the city of revelry(AR)
that lived in safety.(AS)
She said to herself,
“I am the one! And there is none besides me.”(AT)
What a ruin she has become,
a lair for wild beasts!(AU)
All who pass by her scoff(AV)
and shake their fists.(AW)

2 Gather yourselves together, yea, gather together, O nation not desired;
2 Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the Lord come upon you, before the day of the Lord's anger come upon you.
3 Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger.
4 For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall drive out Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.
5 Woe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the nation of the Cherethites! the word of the Lord is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Philistines, I will even destroy thee, that there shall be no inhabitant.
6 And the sea coast shall be dwellings and cottages for shepherds, and folds for flocks.
7 And the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon shall they lie down in the evening: for the Lord their God shall visit them, and turn away their captivity.
8 I have heard the reproach of Moab, and the revilings of the children of Ammon, whereby they have reproached my people, and magnified themselves against their border.
9 Therefore as I live, saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, even the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them.
10 This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the Lord of hosts.
11 The Lord will be terrible unto them: for he will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship him, every one from his place, even all the isles of the heathen.
12 Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword.
13 And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and destroy Assyria; and will make Nineveh a desolation, and dry like a wilderness.
14 And flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the nations: both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in the upper lintels of it; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the thresholds; for he shall uncover the cedar work.
15 This is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! every one that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand.
