Татнајево писмо Дарију
5 А пророци Агеј и Захарија, потомак Идов, почеше да пророкују Јудејима у Јуди и Јерусалиму у име Бога Израеловог, који је био над њима. 2 Тада Зоровавел син Салатиилов и Исус син Јоцадаков почеше поново да зидају Божији Дом у Јерусалиму, а Божији пророци су били с њима и помагали им.
3 У то време дођоше к њима Татнај, намесник подручја с оне стране Еуфрата[a], Шетар-Бознај и њихови сарадници и рекоше им: »Ко вам је дозволио да поново зидате овај храм и да обнављате ово здање?«
4 И још упиташе: »Како се зову људи који дижу ово здање?«
5 Али око њиховог Бога бдело је над јудејским старешинама, па нису били спречени да раде док извештај није отишао Дарију и док од њега није стигао писмени одговор.
6 Ово је препис писма које су Татнај, намесник подручја с оне стране Еуфрата, Шетар-Бознај и њихови сарадници, управитељи подручја с оне стране Еуфрата, послали цару Дарију. 7 Извештај који су му послали гласио је овако:
Цару Дарију: срдачан поздрав.
8 Нека цар зна да смо отишли у покрајину Јуду, до храма великога Бога. Граде га од великог камења, а у зидове умећу греде. Радове марљиво изводе и добро им напредују.
9 Испитали смо њихове старешине и упитали их: »Ко вам је дозволио да поново зидате овај храм и да обновите ово здање?« 10 Распитали смо се и за њихова имена, да бисмо могли да запишемо имена њихових вођа и дојавимо их теби.
11 А они су нам овако одговорили:
»Ми смо слуге Бога неба и земље и поново зидамо храм који је био сазидан пре много година, а сазидао га је и завршио један велики израелски цар. 12 Али, зато што су наши очеви разгневили Бога неба, он их је предао у руке Халдејцу Навуходоносору, цару Вавилона, и он је разорио овај храм и одвео народ у Вавилон. 13 А прве године владавине Кира, цара Вавилона, цар Кир је донео указ о поновном зидању овог Божијег Дома. 14 И још је из храма у Вавилону цар Кир изнео златне и сребрне предмете који су припадали Божијем Дому – које је Навуходоносор узео из храма у Јерусалиму и однео у храм у Вавилону – и предао их човеку по имену Шешбацар, кога је поставио за намесника 15 и рекао му: ‚Узми ове предмете, иди и стави их у храм у Јерусалиму. И нека се Божији Дом поново сазида на свом месту.‘ 16 Тако је тај Шешбацар дошао и положио темеље Божијег Дома у Јерусалиму. И од тог времена па до сада он се зида, али још није довршен.«
17 Ако, дакле, цар жели, нека се претражи царски архив у Вавилону, да се види да ли је цар Кир заиста донео указ о поновном зидању Божијег Дома у Јерусалиму, па нека нам онда цар пошаље своју одлуку о томе.

1 Afterward, the prophets Haggai and Zechariah, the son of Iddo, prophesied to the Jews who were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel who was over them.[a] 2 Thereupon Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, began again to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem, and the prophets of God were with them, giving them support.
3 At that time Tattenai, the governor of West-of-Euphrates, Shethar-bozenai, and their associates came to them and asked: “Who has given you the authority to rebuild this house and complete this structure? 4 What are the names of the men who are constructing this building?” 5 However, the eyes of their God continued to watch over the elders of the Jews, and they were not forced to stop until a report could reach Darius and an official reply could then be sent back in regard to this matter.
6 This is a copy of the letter that Tattenai, the governor of Trans-Euphrates, Shethar-bozenai, and their associates sent to King Darius. 7 This is the written report that they forwarded to him:
“To King Darius: Our sincere greetings. 8 Let it be known to your majesty that we went to the province of Judah and visited the house of the great God. It is being rebuilt with massive stones, and beams of timber are being laid in the walls. The work is being done diligently, and significant progress has been made.
9 “We then questioned the elders, asking them: ‘Who gave you permission to build this house and to finish this structure?’ 10 We also asked them their names for your information so that we could record the names of those who were their leaders.
11 “They gave us this answer: ‘We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth. We are in the process of rebuilding the house that was erected many years ago, a house that a great king of Israel had built and completed. 12 But because our ancestors provoked the wrath of the God of heaven, he delivered them into the power of Nebuchadnezzar, the Chaldean king of Babylon, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.
13 “ ‘However, King Cyrus of Babylon,[b] in the first year of his reign, issued a decree that this house of God should be rebuilt. 14 Moreover, the gold and silver articles of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar had removed from the temple of Jerusalem and brought into the temple of Babylon, King Cyrus in turn removed from the temple of Babylon and ordered them to be delivered into the hands of a man named Sheshbazzar, whom he had appointed governor. 15 He said to him: “Take these vessels. Go forth and deposit them in the temple of Jerusalem, and let the house of God be rebuilt on its original site.”
16 “ ‘Then this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem, and from that time until now it has been under construction, and it is not yet completed.’ 17 Now, if it pleases the king, order that a search be made in the royal archives of Babylon to ascertain whether a decree was issued by King Cyrus for the rebuilding of this house of God in Jerusalem. Then ask the king to convey his decision on this matter to us.”

5 Then the prophets, Haggai the prophet, and Zechariah the son of Iddo, prophesied unto the Jews that were in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, even unto them.
2 Then rose up Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and began to build the house of God which is at Jerusalem: and with them were the prophets of God helping them.
3 At the same time came to them Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and their companions, and said thus unto them, Who hath commanded you to build this house, and to make up this wall?
4 Then said we unto them after this manner, What are the names of the men that make this building?
5 But the eye of their God was upon the elders of the Jews, that they could not cause them to cease, till the matter came to Darius: and then they returned answer by letter concerning this matter.
6 The copy of the letter that Tatnai, governor on this side the river, and Shetharboznai and his companions the Apharsachites, which were on this side the river, sent unto Darius the king:
7 They sent a letter unto him, wherein was written thus; Unto Darius the king, all peace.
8 Be it known unto the king, that we went into the province of Judea, to the house of the great God, which is builded with great stones, and timber is laid in the walls, and this work goeth fast on, and prospereth in their hands.
9 Then asked we those elders, and said unto them thus, Who commanded you to build this house, and to make up these walls?
10 We asked their names also, to certify thee, that we might write the names of the men that were the chief of them.
11 And thus they returned us answer, saying, We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and build the house that was builded these many years ago, which a great king of Israel builded and set up.
12 But after that our fathers had provoked the God of heaven unto wrath, he gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon.
13 But in the first year of Cyrus the king of Babylon the same king Cyrus made a decree to build this house of God.
14 And the vessels also of gold and silver of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took out of the temple that was in Jerusalem, and brought them into the temple of Babylon, those did Cyrus the king take out of the temple of Babylon, and they were delivered unto one, whose name was Sheshbazzar, whom he had made governor;
15 And said unto him, Take these vessels, go, carry them into the temple that is in Jerusalem, and let the house of God be builded in his place.
16 Then came the same Sheshbazzar, and laid the foundation of the house of God which is in Jerusalem: and since that time even until now hath it been in building, and yet it is not finished.
17 Now therefore, if it seem good to the king, let there be search made in the king's treasure house, which is there at Babylon, whether it be so, that a decree was made of Cyrus the king to build this house of God at Jerusalem, and let the king send his pleasure to us concerning this matter.
