Яков в дома на Лаван
29 (A)Тогава Яков тръгна и отиде в земята на източните жители.
2 И видя кладенец на полето и там три стада овце, които почиваха при него, защото от онзи кладенец напояваха стадата; и върху отвора на кладенеца имаше голям камък.
3 И когато се събираха там всички стада, отместваха камъка от отвора на кладенеца и напояваха стадата; после пак слагаха камъка на мястото му над отвора на кладенеца.
4 Тогава Яков каза на овчарите: Братя, откъде сте? А те отвърнаха: От Харан сме.
5 Той ги попита: Познавате ли Лаван, Нахоровия син? Отговориха: Познаваме го.
6 (B)И им каза: Здрав ли е? А те отговориха: Здрав е; и, ето, дъщеря му Рахил идва с овцете.
7 А той каза: Вижте, още е много рано, не е време да се прибира добитъкът; напоете овцете и идете да ги пасете.
8 А те казаха: Не можем, докато не се съберат всички стада и не отместят камъка от отвора на кладенеца; тогава напояваме овцете.
9 (C)Докато още им говореше, дойде Рахил с бащините си овце, защото тя ги пасеше.
10 (D)А Яков, като видя Рахил, дъщерята на вуйчо си Лаван, и овцете на вуйчо си Лаван, Яков се приближи и отмести камъка от отвора на кладенеца; и напои стадото на вуйчо си Лаван.
11 (E)И Яков целуна Рахил и заплака с висок глас.
12 (F)Яков каза на Рахил, че е племенник на баща ѝ и че е син на Ревека; а тя се затича да извести на баща си.
13 (G)А Лаван, като чу за своя племенник Яков, затича се да го посрещне; и го прегърна, целуна го и го заведе у дома си. Тогава Яков разказа на Лаван всичко.
14 (H)Лаван му каза: Наистина ти си моя кост и моя плът. И Яков живя при него един месец.

15 След това Лаван каза на Яков: Ти си ми като брат, затова ще ми работиш ли безплатно? Кажи ми каква да ти бъде заплатата.
16 А Лаван имаше две дъщери; името на по-старата беше Лия, а името на по-младата Рахил;
17 на Лия очите не бяха здрави, а Рахил имаше хубава снага и хубаво лице.
18 (I)И Яков, понеже обикна Рахил, каза: Ще ти работя седем години за по-малката ти дъщеря Рахил.
19 Лаван отговори: По-добре да я дам на теб, отколкото на друг мъж; живей при мен.
20 (J)И така, Яков работѝ за Рахил седем години; но поради любовта му към нея те му се видяха като няколко дни.
21 (K)След това Яков каза на Лаван: Дай жена ми, защото дойде време да заживея с нея.
22 (L)И така, Лаван събра всички хора от това място и даде угощение.
23 А вечерта взе дъщеря си Лия и му я доведе; и той влезе при нея.
24 И Лаван даде слугинята си Зелфа за слугиня на дъщеря си Лия.
25 Но на сутринта Яков разбра, че беше Лия. И каза на Лаван: Какво е това, което ми направи ти? Нали за Рахил ти работих? Тогава защо ме излъга?
26 А Лаван отвърна: В нашето място няма обичай да се дава по-младата преди по-старата.
27 (M)Завършѝ сватбарската седмица с тази; и ще ти дам и онази за работата, която ще ми вършиш още седем години.
28 И Яков направи така; завърши седмицата с Лия и тогава Лаван му даде дъщеря си Рахил за жена.
29 А Лаван даде слугинята си Вала за слугиня на дъщеря си Рахил.
30 (N)И Яков заживя с Рахил и обикна Рахил повече от Лия; и работѝ на Лаван още седем години.
Потомството на Яков
31 (O)А Господ, понеже видя, че Лия не беше обичана, отвори утробата ѝ; а Рахил беше бездетна.
32 (P)И така, Лия зачена и роди син, и го наименуваха Рувим[a], защото си казваше: Господ погледна на неволята ми; сега мъжът ми ще ме обикне.
33 И пак зачена и роди син; и каза: Понеже Господ чу, че не съм любима, затова ми даде и този син; и го наименува Симеон[b].
34 Пак зачена и роди син; и каза: Сега вече мъжът ми ще се привърже към мене, защото му родих трима сина; затова го наименува Левий[c].
35 (Q)И пак зачена и роди син; и каза: Този път ще възхваля Господа; затова го наименува Юда[d]. И престана да ражда.

Jacob Meets Rachel
29 So Jacob went on his journey (A)and came to the land of the people of the East. 2 And he looked, and saw a (B)well in the field; and behold, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks. A large stone was on the well’s mouth. 3 Now all the flocks would be gathered there; and they would roll the stone from the well’s mouth, water the sheep, and put the stone back in its place on the well’s mouth.
4 And Jacob said to them, “My brethren, where are you from?”
And they said, “We are from (C)Haran.”
5 Then he said to them, “Do you know (D)Laban the son of Nahor?”
And they said, “We know him.”
6 So he said to them, (E)“Is he well?”
And they said, “He is well. And look, his daughter Rachel (F)is coming with the sheep.”
7 Then he said, “Look, it is still [a]high day; it is not time for the cattle to be gathered together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”
8 But they said, “We cannot until all the flocks are gathered together, and they have rolled the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.”
9 Now while he was still speaking with them, (G)Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherdess. 10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near and (H)rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother. 11 Then Jacob (I)kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice and wept. 12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was (J)her father’s relative and that he was Rebekah’s son. (K)So she ran and told her father.
13 Then it came to pass, when Laban heard the report about Jacob his sister’s son, that (L)he ran to meet him, and embraced him and kissed him, and brought him to his house. So he told Laban all these things. 14 And Laban said to him, (M)“Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” And he stayed with him for a month.
Jacob Marries Leah and Rachel
15 Then Laban said to Jacob, “Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, (N)what should your wages be?” 16 Now Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel. 17 Leah’s eyes were [b]delicate, but Rachel was (O)beautiful of form and appearance.
18 Now Jacob loved Rachel; so he said, (P)“I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.”
19 And Laban said, “It is better that I give her to you than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.” 20 So Jacob (Q)served seven years for Rachel, and they seemed only a few days to him because of the love he had for her.
21 Then Jacob said to Laban, “Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may (R)go in to her.” 22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place and (S)made a feast. 23 Now it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter and brought her to Jacob; and he went in to her. 24 And Laban gave his maid (T)Zilpah to his daughter Leah as a maid. 25 So it came to pass in the morning, that behold, it was Leah. And he said to Laban, “What is this you have done to me? Was it not for Rachel that I served you? Why then have you (U)deceived me?”
26 And Laban said, “It must not be done so in our [c]country, to give the younger before the firstborn. 27 (V)Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years.”
28 Then Jacob did so and fulfilled her week. So he gave him his daughter Rachel as wife also. 29 And Laban gave his maid (W)Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as a maid. 30 Then Jacob also went in to Rachel, and he also (X)loved Rachel more than Leah. And he served with Laban (Y)still another seven years.
The Children of Jacob
31 When the Lord (Z)saw that Leah was [d]unloved, He (AA)opened her womb; but Rachel was barren. 32 So Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name [e]Reuben; for she said, “The Lord has surely (AB)looked on my affliction. Now therefore, my husband will love me.” 33 Then she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Because the Lord has heard that I am [f]unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” And she called his name [g]Simeon. 34 She conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called [h]Levi. 35 And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Now I will praise the Lord.” Therefore she called his name (AC)Judah.[i] Then she stopped bearing.

29 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.

3 And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in his place.
4 And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.
5 And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.
6 And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.
7 And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.
8 And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.
9 And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep; for she kept them.
10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.
11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son: and she ran and told her father.
13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.
14 And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.
15 And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?
16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.
17 Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.
18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.
19 And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.
20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.
21 And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.
22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.
23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.
24 And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.
25 And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?
26 And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.
27 Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.
28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.
29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.
30 And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.
31 And when the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.
32 And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the Lord hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.
33 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the Lord hath heard I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.
34 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.
35 And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the Lord: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.
