Авраам в Герар
20 (A)Оттам Авраам тръгна на юг. Той се засели между Кадис и Сур и живееше като пришълец в Герар.
2 (B)И понеже Авраам казваше за жена си Сара: Сестра ми е, то Герарският цар Авимелех прати и взе Сара.
3 (C)Но Бог дойде при Авимелех в съня му през нощта и му каза: Ето, ти умираш заради жената, която си взел; защото тя си има мъж.
4 (D)(А Авимелех не беше се докоснал до нея.) И каза: Господи, ще погубиш ли и един праведен народ?
5 (E)Не ми ли каза сам той: Сестра ми е? Също и самата тя каза: Той ми е брат. С право сърце и с чисти ръце аз направих това.
6 (F)Бог му каза в съня: Да, Аз зная, че си направил това с праведно сърце; също така Аз те въздържах да не съгрешиш против Мен и затова не те оставих да се докоснеш до нея.
7 (G)И така, сега върни жената на човека, защото е пророк и ще се помоли за теб, и ти ще останеш жив; но ако не я върнеш, знай, че непременно ще умреш, ти и всички твои хора.
8 На сутринта, като стана рано, Авимелех повика всичките си слуги и извести всички тези неща в ушите им; и хората се уплашиха много.
9 (H)Тогава Авимелех повика Авраам и го запита: Какво ни причини ти? С какво съгреших пред тебе, че си навлякъл на мен и на царството ми голям грях? Причинил си ми неща, които не трябваше да се правят.
10 Авимелех каза още на Авраам: Защо направи това?
11 (I)Авраам отговори: Направих го, понеже си казах: Няма да има страх от Бога в това място и ще ме убият заради жена ми.
12 (J)А при това тя наистина ми е сестра, дъщеря на баща ми, но не и дъщеря на майка ми; и ми стана жена.
13 (K)И когато Бог ме изпрати далеч от бащиния ни дом, ѝ казах: Ще ми направиш тази добрина – на всяко място, където отидем, казвай за мене: Брат ми е.
14 (L)Тогава Авимелех взе овце и говеда, слуги и слугини и ги даде на Авраам, и върна жена му Сара.
15 (M)И Авимелех каза: Ето, земята ми е пред тебе; засели се където ти хареса.
16 (N)А на Сара каза: Виж, дадох на брат ти хиляда сребърника; ето, това ти е покривало за очите пред всички, които са с теб; и пред всички хора си оправдана.
17 (O)И така, Авраам се помоли на Бога; и Бог изцели Авимелех и жена му, и слугите му; и раждаха деца.
18 (P)Защото поради Авраамовата жена Сара Господ беше заключил всички утроби на Авимелеховия дом.

Авраам в Герар
20 (A)Оттам Авраам се отправи към Негев и се засели между Кадес и Сур. След това се засели в Герар. 2 Авраам каза за жена си Сарра: „Тя ми е сестра.“[a] Затова герарският цар Авимелех изпрати, та взе Сарра. 3 Но Бог се яви на Авимелех през нощта насън и му каза: „Ти ще умреш заради жената, която си взел, защото тя си има мъж.“ 4 А Авимелех не се беше докоснал до нея. „Господи, нима ще погубиш[b] невинния народ? 5 Нали той сам ми каза: ‘Тя ми е сестра’? А и тя самата каза: ‘Той ми е брат.’ С чисто сърце и невинни ръце направих това.“
6 Бог му отговори насън: „Да, Аз зная, че сърцето ти е чисто. Затова те и удържах, за да не съгрешиш пред Мене и не те оставих да се докоснеш до нея. 7 А сега върни жената на мъжа ѝ, защото той е пророк. Той ще се помоли за тебе и ти ще запазиш живота си. Ако не я върнеш, знай, че непременно ще загинете ти и целият твой род.“ 8 Рано сутринта Авимелех събра всички свои приближени и им предаде всички тези думи. Те много се уплашиха. 9 Авимелех повика Авраам и му каза: „Какво ни стори ти? С какво съгреших пред тебе, та щеше да навлечеш страшен грях върху мене и царството ми? Ти постъпи с мене така, както не бива да се постъпва.“ 10 Авимелех продължи към Авраам: „Какво си възнамерявал ти, когато постъпи така?“
11 Авраам отговори: „Помислих, че по тези места няма Божий страх и че могат да ме убият заради жена ми. 12 Но тя наистина ми е сестра, тъй като е дъщеря на моя баща, само че не е дъщеря на майка ми. Именно тя стана моя жена. 13 Когато Бог ми заповяда да напусна бащиния си дом и да се отправя на път, аз ѝ наредих: ‘Направи ми това добро – където и да отидем, казвай за мене: Той ми е брат.’“
14 Тогава Авимелех взе[c] дребен и едър добитък, роби и робини и ги даде на Авраам. Върна му и неговата жена Сарра 15 с думите: „Ето земята ми е пред тебе – където искаш, там се засели.“ 16 А на Сарра каза: „Аз дадох на брат ти хиляда сикли сребро. Това ще покрие твоята обида в очите на твоите близки и твоята чест ще бъде възстановена.“ 17 Авраам се помоли на Бога и Бог изцери Авимелех, жена му и робините му и те започнаха да раждат. 18 Защото заради Сарра, жената на Авраам, Господ беше направил безплодни всички жени в дома на Авимелех.

Abraham and Abimelek(A)
20 Now Abraham moved on from there(B) into the region of the Negev(C) and lived between Kadesh(D) and Shur.(E) For a while(F) he stayed in Gerar,(G) 2 and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.(H)” Then Abimelek(I) king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.(J)
3 But God came to Abimelek(K) in a dream(L) one night and said to him, “You are as good as dead(M) because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman.”(N)
4 Now Abimelek had not gone near her, so he said, “Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation?(O) 5 Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister,(P)’ and didn’t she also say, ‘He is my brother’? I have done this with a clear conscience(Q) and clean hands.(R)”
6 Then God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept(S) you from sinning against me.(T) That is why I did not let you touch her. 7 Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet,(U) and he will pray for you(V) and you will live. But if you do not return her, you may be sure that you and all who belong to you will die.”(W)
8 Early the next morning Abimelek summoned all his officials, and when he told them all that had happened, they were very much afraid. 9 Then Abimelek called Abraham in and said, “What have you done to us? How have I wronged you that you have brought such great guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should never be done.(X)” 10 And Abimelek asked Abraham, “What was your reason for doing this?”
11 Abraham replied, “I said to myself, ‘There is surely no fear of God(Y) in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’(Z) 12 Besides, she really is my sister,(AA) the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife. 13 And when God had me wander(AB) from my father’s household,(AC) I said to her, ‘This is how you can show your love to me: Everywhere we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”
14 Then Abimelek(AD) brought sheep and cattle and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham,(AE) and he returned Sarah his wife to him. 15 And Abimelek said, “My land is before you; live wherever you like.”(AF)
16 To Sarah he said, “I am giving your brother a thousand shekels[a] of silver. This is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated.”
17 Then Abraham prayed to God,(AG) and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again, 18 for the Lord had kept all the women in Abimelek’s household from conceiving because of Abraham’s wife Sarah.(AH)

3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
4 But Abimelech had not come near her: and he said, Lord, wilt thou slay also a righteous nation?
5 Said he not unto me, She is my sister? and she, even she herself said, He is my brother: in the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.
6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.
8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.
9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.
10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?
11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.
12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
13 And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, say of me, He is my brother.
14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife.
15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my land is before thee: dwell where it pleaseth thee.
16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved.
17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
18 For the Lord had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
