16 ταυτα λελαληκα υμιν ινα μη σκανδαλισθητε

²αποσυναγωγους ποιησουσιν υμας αλλ ερχεται ωρα ινα πας ο αποκτεινας υμας δοξη λατρειαν προσφερειν τω θεω

³και ταυτα ποιησουσιν υμιν οτι ουκ εγνωσαν τον πατερα ουδε εμε

⁴αλλα ταυτα λελαληκα υμιν ινα οταν ελθη η ωρα μνημονευητε αυτων οτι εγω ειπον υμιν ταυτα δε υμιν εξ αρχης ουκ ειπον οτι μεθ υμων ημην

⁵νυν δε υπαγω προς τον πεμψαντα με και ουδεις εξ υμων ερωτα με που υπαγεις

⁶αλλ οτι ταυτα λελαληκα υμιν η λυπη πεπληρωκεν υμων την καρδιαν

⁷αλλ εγω την αληθειαν λεγω υμιν συμφερει υμιν ινα εγω απελθω εαν γαρ μη απελθω ο παρακλητος ουκ ελευσεται προς υμας εαν δε πορευθω πεμψω αυτον προς υμας

⁸και ελθων εκεινος ελεγξει τον κοσμον περι αμαρτιας και περι δικαιοσυνης και περι κρισεως

⁹περι αμαρτιας μεν οτι ου πιστευουσιν εις εμε

¹⁰περι δικαιοσυνης δε οτι προς τον πατερα μου υπαγω και ουκ ετι θεωρειτε με

¹¹περι δε κρισεως οτι ο αρχων του κοσμου τουτου κεκριται

¹²ετι πολλα εχω λεγειν υμιν αλλ ου δυνασθε βασταζειν αρτι

¹³οταν δε ελθη εκεινος το πνευμα της αληθειας οδηγησει υμας εις πασαν την αληθειαν ου γαρ λαλησει αφ εαυτου αλλ οσα αν ακουση λαλησει και τα ερχομενα αναγγελει υμιν

¹⁴εκεινος εμε δοξασει οτι εκ του εμου ληψεται και αναγγελει υμιν

¹⁵παντα οσα εχει ο πατηρ εμα εστιν δια τουτο ειπον οτι εκ του εμου ληψεται και αναγγελει υμιν

¹⁶μικρον και ου θεωρειτε με και παλιν μικρον και οψεσθε με οτι εγω υπαγω προς τον πατερα

¹⁷ειπον ουν εκ των μαθητων αυτου προς αλληλους τι εστιν τουτο ο λεγει ημιν μικρον και ου θεωρειτε με και παλιν μικρον και οψεσθε με και οτι εγω υπαγω προς τον πατερα

¹⁸ελεγον ουν τουτο τι εστιν ο λεγει το μικρον ουκ οιδαμεν τι λαλει

¹⁹εγνω ουν ο ιησους οτι ηθελον αυτον ερωταν και ειπεν αυτοις περι τουτου ζητειτε μετ αλληλων οτι ειπον μικρον και ου θεωρειτε με και παλιν μικρον και οψεσθε με

²⁰αμην αμην λεγω υμιν οτι κλαυσετε και θρηνησετε υμεις ο δε κοσμος χαρησεται υμεις δε λυπηθησεσθε αλλ η λυπη υμων εις χαραν γενησεται

²¹η γυνη οταν τικτη λυπην εχει οτι ηλθεν η ωρα αυτης οταν δε γεννηση το παιδιον ουκ ετι μνημονευει της θλιψεως δια την χαραν οτι εγεννηθη ανθρωπος εις τον κοσμον

²²και υμεις ουν λυπην μεν νυν εχετε παλιν δε οψομαι υμας και χαρησεται υμων η καρδια και την χαραν υμων ουδεις αιρει αφ υμων

²³και εν εκεινη τη ημερα εμε ουκ ερωτησετε ουδεν αμην αμην λεγω υμιν οτι οσα αν αιτησητε τον πατερα εν τω ονοματι μου δωσει υμιν

²⁴εως αρτι ουκ ητησατε ουδεν εν τω ονοματι μου αιτειτε και ληψεσθε ινα η χαρα υμων η πεπληρωμενη

²⁵ταυτα εν παροιμιαις λελαληκα υμιν ερχεται ωρα οτε ουκ ετι εν παροιμιαις λαλησω υμιν αλλα παρρησια περι του πατρος αναγγελω υμιν

²⁶εν εκεινη τη ημερα εν τω ονοματι μου αιτησεσθε και ου λεγω υμιν οτι εγω ερωτησω τον πατερα περι υμων

²⁷αυτος γαρ ο πατηρ φιλει υμας οτι υμεις εμε πεφιληκατε και πεπιστευκατε οτι εγω παρα του θεου εξηλθον

²⁸εξηλθον παρα του πατρος και εληλυθα εις τον κοσμον παλιν αφιημι τον κοσμον και πορευομαι προς τον πατερα

²⁹λεγουσιν αυτω οι μαθηται αυτου ιδε νυν παρρησια λαλεις και παροιμιαν ουδεμιαν λεγεις

³⁰νυν οιδαμεν οτι οιδας παντα και ου χρειαν εχεις ινα τις σε ερωτα εν τουτω πιστευομεν οτι απο θεου εξηλθες

³¹απεκριθη αυτοις ο ιησους αρτι πιστευετε

³²ιδου ερχεται ωρα και νυν εληλυθεν ινα σκορπισθητε εκαστος εις τα ιδια και εμε μονον αφητε και ουκ ειμι μονος οτι ο πατηρ μετ εμου εστιν

³³ταυτα λελαληκα υμιν ινα εν εμοι ειρηνην εχητε εν τω κοσμω θλιψιν εξετε αλλα θαρσειτε εγω νενικηκα τον κοσμον

John 16

Young's Literal Translation

16 `These things I have spoken to you, that ye may not be stumbled,

²out of the synagogues they will put you; but an hour doth come, that every one who hath killed you, may think to offer service unto God;

³and these things they will do to you, because they did not know the Father, nor me.

⁴`But these things I have spoken to you, that when the hour may come, ye may remember them, that I said [them] to you, and these things to you from the beginning I did not say, because I was with you;

⁵and now I go away to Him who sent me, and none of you doth ask me, Whither dost thou go?

⁶but because these things I have said to you, the sorrow hath filled your heart.

⁷`But I tell you the truth; it is better for you that I go away, for if I may not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you, and if I go on, I will send Him unto you;

⁸and having come, He will convict the world concerning sin, and concerning righteousness, and concerning judgment;

⁹concerning sin indeed, because they do not believe in me;

¹⁰and concerning righteousness, because unto my Father I go away, and no more do ye behold me;

¹¹and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world hath been judged.

¹²`I have yet many things to say to you, but ye are not able to bear [them] now;

¹³and when He may come -- the Spirit of truth -- He will guide you to all the truth, for He will not speak from Himself, but as many things as He will hear He will speak, and the coming things He will tell you;

¹⁴He will glorify me, because of mine He will take, and will tell to you.

¹⁵`All things, as many as the Father hath, are mine; because of this I said, That of mine He will take, and will tell to you;

¹⁶a little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go away unto the Father.'

¹⁷Therefore said [some] of his disciples one to another, `What is this that he saith to us, A little while, and ye do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me, and, Because I go away unto the Father?'

¹⁸they said then, `What is this he saith -- the little while? we have not known what he saith.'

¹⁹Jesus, therefore, knew that they were wishing to ask him, and he said to them, `Concerning this do ye seek one with another, because I said, A little while, and you do not behold me, and again a little while, and ye shall see me?

²⁰verily, verily, I say to you, that ye shall weep and lament, and the world will rejoice; and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow joy will become.

²¹`The woman, when she may bear, hath sorrow, because her hour did come, and when she may bear the child, no more doth she remember the anguish, because of the joy that a man was born to the world.

²²`And ye, therefore, now, indeed, have sorrow; and again I will see you, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one doth take from you,

²³and in that day ye will question me nothing; verily, verily, I say to you, as many things as ye may ask of the Father in my name, He will give you;

²⁴till now ye did ask nothing in my name; ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

²⁵`These things in similitudes I have spoken to you, but there cometh an hour when no more in similitudes will I speak to you, but freely of the Father, will tell you.

²⁶`In that day, in my name ye will make request, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you,

²⁷for the Father himself doth love you, because me ye have loved, and ye have believed that I from God came forth;

²⁸I came forth from the Father, and have come to the world; again I leave the world, and go on unto the Father.'

²⁹His disciples say to him, `Lo, now freely thou dost speak, and no similitude speakest thou;

³⁰now we have known that thou hast known all things, and hast no need that any one do question thee; in this we believe that from God thou didst come forth.'

³¹Jesus answered them, `Now do ye believe? lo, there doth come an hour,

³²and now it hath come, that ye may be scattered, each to his own things, and me ye may leave alone, and I am not alone, because the Father is with me;

³³these things I have spoken to you, that in me ye may have peace, in the world ye shall have tribulation, but take courage -- I have overcome the world.'

Jesus’ Warning

16 “^(A)These things I have spoken to you so that you will not ^[a]be ^(B)led into sin. ²They will ^[b]^(C)ban you from the synagogue, yet ^(D)an hour is coming for everyone ^(E)who kills you to think that he is offering a ^[c]service to God. ³These things they will do ^(F)because they have not known the Father nor Me. ⁴But these things I have spoken to you, ^(G)so that when their hour comes, you ^[d]may remember that I told you of them. However, I did not say these things to you ^(H)at the beginning, because I was with you.

The Holy Spirit Promised

⁵“But now ^(I)I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘^(J)Where are You going?’ ⁶But because I have said these things to you, ^(K)grief has filled your heart. ⁷But I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I am leaving; for if I do not leave, the ^[e]^(L)Helper will not come to you; but if I go, ^(M)I will send Him to you. ⁸And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment: ⁹regarding sin, ^(N)because they do not believe in Me; ¹⁰and regarding ^(O)righteousness, because ^(P)I am going to the Father and you no longer are going to see Me; ¹¹^(Q)and regarding judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.

¹²“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them at the present time. ¹³But when He, ^(R)the Spirit of truth, comes, He will ^(S)guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. ¹⁴He will ^(T)glorify Me, for He will take from Mine and will disclose it to you. ¹⁵^(U)All things that the Father has are Mine; this is why I said that He takes from Mine and will disclose it to you.

Jesus’ Death and Resurrection Foretold

¹⁶“^(V)A little while, and ^(W)you no longer are going to see Me; and again a little while, and ^(X)you will see Me.” ¹⁷So some of His disciples said to one another, “What is this that He is telling us, ‘^(Y)A little while, and you are not going to see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because ^(Z)I am going to the Father’?” ¹⁸So they were saying, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not know what He is talking about.” ¹⁹^(AA)Jesus knew that they wanted to question Him, and He said to them, “Are you deliberating together about this, that I said, ‘A little while, and you are not going to see Me, and again a little while, and you will see Me’? ²⁰Truly, truly I say to you that ^(AB)you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but ^(AC)your grief will be turned into joy! ²¹^(AD)Whenever a woman is in labor she has ^[f]pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a ^[g]child has been born into the world. ²²Therefore ^(AE)you too have grief now; but ^(AF)I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one is going to take your joy away from you.

Prayer Promises

²³And ^(AG)on that day ^(AH)you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly I say to you, ^(AI)if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you. ²⁴^(AJ)Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your ^(AK)joy may be made full.

²⁵“These things I have spoken to you in ^(AL)figures of speech; ^(AM)an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech, but will tell you plainly about the Father. ²⁶^(AN)On that day ^(AO)you will ask in My name, and I am not saying to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; ²⁷for ^(AP)the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and ^(AQ)have believed that ^(AR)I came forth from the Father. ²⁸^(AS)I came forth from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and ^(AT)going to the Father.”

²⁹His disciples *said, “See, now You are speaking plainly and are not ^[h]using any ^(AU)figure of speech. ³⁰Now we know that You know all things, and that You have no need for anyone to question You; this is why we ^(AV)believe that You ^(AW)came forth from God.” ³¹Jesus replied to them, “Do you now believe? ³²Behold, ^(AX)an hour is coming, and has already come, for ^(AY)you to be scattered, each to ^(AZ)his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet ^(BA)I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. ³³These things I have spoken to you so that ^(BB)in Me you may have peace. ^(BC)In the world you have tribulation, but ^(BD)take courage; ^(BE)I have overcome the world.”
