Los egipcios oprimen a los israelitas
1 Estos son los nombres de los hijos de Israel que, acompañados de sus familias, llegaron con Jacob a Egipto: 2 Rubén, Simeón, Leví, Judá, 3 Isacar, Zabulón, Benjamín, 4 Dan, Neftalí, Gad y Aser. 5 En total, los descendientes de Jacob eran setenta. José ya estaba en Egipto.
6 Murieron José y sus hermanos y toda aquella generación. 7 Sin embargo, los israelitas tuvieron muchos hijos, y hasta tal punto se multiplicaron que fueron haciéndose más y más poderosos. El país se fue llenando de ellos.
8 Pero llegó al poder en Egipto otro rey que no había conocido a José, 9 y le dijo a su pueblo: «¡Cuidado con los israelitas, que ya son más fuertes y numerosos que nosotros! 10 Vamos a tener que manejarlos con mucha astucia; de lo contrario, seguirán aumentando y, si estalla una guerra, se unirán a nuestros enemigos, nos combatirán y se irán del país».
11 Fue así como los egipcios pusieron capataces para que oprimieran a los israelitas. Les impusieron trabajos forzados, tales como los de edificar para el faraón las ciudades de almacenaje Pitón y Ramsés. 12 Pero cuanto más los oprimían, más se multiplicaban y se extendían, de modo que los egipcios llegaron a tenerles miedo; 13 por eso les imponían trabajos pesados y los trataban con crueldad. 14 Les amargaban la vida obligándolos a hacer mezcla y ladrillos, y todas las labores del campo. En todos los trabajos de esclavos que los israelitas realizaban, los egipcios los trataban con crueldad.
15 Había dos parteras de las hebreas, llamadas Sifrá y Fuvá, a las que el rey de Egipto ordenó:
16 ―Cuando ayudéis a las hebreas en sus partos, fijaos en el sexo:[a] si es niño, matadlo; pero, si es niña, dejadla con vida.
17 Sin embargo, las parteras temían a Dios, así que no siguieron las órdenes del rey de Egipto, sino que dejaron con vida a los varones. 18 Entonces el rey de Egipto mandó llamar a las parteras, y les preguntó:
―¿Por qué habéis hecho esto? ¿Por qué habéis dejado con vida a los varones?
19 Las parteras respondieron:
―Resulta que las hebreas no son como las egipcias, sino que están llenas de vida y dan a luz antes de que lleguemos.
20 De este modo los israelitas se hicieron más fuertes y más numerosos. Además, Dios trató muy bien a las parteras 21 y, por haberse mostrado temerosas de Dios, les concedió tener muchos hijos. 22 El faraón, por su parte, dio esta orden a todo su pueblo:
―¡Tirad al río a todos los niños hebreos que nazcan! A las niñas, dejadlas con vida.

1 Amo ini ang mga anak nga lalaki ni Jacob[a] nga nag-upod sa iya sa Egipto, kaupod ang ila mga pamilya: 2 Si Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Juda, 3 Isacar, Zebulun, Benjamin, 4 Dan, Naftali, Gad, kag Asher. 5 Si Jose didto na nga daan sa Egipto. 70 tanan ang kaliwat ni Jacob sang nagkadto siya sa Egipto.
6 Sang ulihi napatay si Jose kag ang tanan niya nga utod. Naglipas ang ina nga henerasyon, 7 pero madasig nga nagdamo ang ila mga kaliwat. Sa ila puwerte nga kadamo naglapta sila sa bisan diin nga parte sang Egipto.
8 Karon, may bag-o na nga hari sa Egipto nga wala kahibalo parte kay Jose. 9 Nagsiling siya sa iya katawhan, “Tan-awa bala ninyo! Madamo na gid ang mga Israelinhon, gani delikado na ang aton kahimtangan. 10 Kay basi bala sa tion sang inaway magadampig sila sa aton mga kaaway kag magakontra sa aton, kag dayon makapalagyo sila sa aton nasyon. Gani mangita kita sang maayo nga paagi nga indi na sila magdamo pa.”
11 Gani ginpadumalahan nila ang mga Israelinhon sa mga tawo nga nagpigos kag nagpaobra sa ila sing tudo-tudo gid. Ginpaobra sa ila ang mga banwa sang Pitom kag Rameses nga bulutangan sang mga bodega sang hari sang Egipto.[b] 12 Pero samtang ginapigos sila nga ginapigos, nagadamo pa gid gani sila nga nagadamo, kag naglalapta pa gid sila sa Egipto. Gani hinadlukan na gid ang mga Egiptohanon sa ila. 13 Tungod sini, gindugangan pa gid nila ang ila kapintas sa pag-ulipon sa mga Israelinhon. 14 Wala gid sila sing kaluoy sa mga Israelinhon. Ginpabudlayan gid nila sila paagi sa pagpatrabaho sa ila sa mga tisa[c] kag pangsemento. Kag ginpaobra nila sila sing tudo-tudo sa uma.
15 Dayon nagsiling ang hari sang Egipto sa mga Hebreo nga paltera nga sila ni Shifra kag Pua, 16 “Sa inyo pagpabata sa mga Hebreo nga babayi, patya ninyo ang bata kon lalaki, pero kon babayi, indi lang pagpatya.” 17 Pero tungod nga nahadlok ang mga paltera sa Dios, wala nila pagtumana ang ginsiling sang hari, sa baylo ginpabay-an nila nga mabuhi ang mga lapsag nga lalaki.
18 Gani ginpatawag sang hari sang Egipto ang mga paltera kag ginpamangkot, “Ngaa ginhimo ninyo ini? Ngaa ginpabay-an ninyo nga mabuhi ang mga lapsag nga lalaki?” 19 Nagsabat ang mga paltera, “Ang mga Hebreo nga babayi indi pareho sa mga Egiptohanon nga babayi; mahapos lang sila magbata kag sa wala pa kami makaabot nakabata na sila.” 20 Gani ginpakamaayo sang Dios ang mga paltera, kag nagdamo pa gid nga nagdamo ang mga Israelinhon. 21 Kag tungod nga nagatahod ang mga paltera sa Dios, ginhatagan sila sang Dios sang ila kaugalingon nga pamilya. 22 Sang ulihi nagmando ang hari sang Egipto sa tanan niya nga katawhan, “Ipanghaboy ninyo sa Suba sang Nilo ang tanan nga bata nga lalaki sang mga Israelinhon nga bag-o natawo, pero pabay-i lang nga mabuhi ang mga bata nga babayi.”

The Israelites Oppressed
1 These are the names of the sons of Israel(A) who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family: 2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah; 3 Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin; 4 Dan and Naphtali; Gad and Asher.(B) 5 The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy[a] in all;(C) Joseph was already in Egypt.
6 Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died,(D) 7 but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied greatly, increased in numbers(E) and became so numerous that the land was filled with them.
8 Then a new king, to whom Joseph meant nothing, came to power in Egypt.(F) 9 “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become far too numerous(G) for us.(H) 10 Come, we must deal shrewdly(I) with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.”(J)
11 So they put slave masters(K) over them to oppress them with forced labor,(L) and they built Pithom and Rameses(M) as store cities(N) for Pharaoh. 12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites 13 and worked them ruthlessly.(O) 14 They made their lives bitter with harsh labor(P) in brick(Q) and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.(R)
15 The king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives,(S) whose names were Shiphrah and Puah, 16 “When you are helping the Hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool, if you see that the baby is a boy, kill him; but if it is a girl, let her live.”(T) 17 The midwives, however, feared(U) God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do;(V) they let the boys live. 18 Then the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”
19 The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”(W)
20 So God was kind to the midwives(X) and the people increased and became even more numerous. 21 And because the midwives feared(Y) God, he gave them families(Z) of their own.
22 Then Pharaoh gave this order to all his people: “Every Hebrew boy that is born you must throw into the Nile,(AA) but let every girl live.”(AB)
