⁴ The One enthroned^(F) in heaven laughs;^(G)
    the Lord scoffs at them.
⁵ He rebukes them in his anger^(H)
    and terrifies them in his wrath,^(I) saying,
⁶ “I have installed my king^(J)
    on Zion,^(K) my holy mountain.^(L)”

He said to me, “You are my son;^(M)
    today I have become your father.^(N)
8 Ask me,
    and I will make the nations^(O) your inheritance,^(P)
    the ends of the earth^(Q) your possession.
⁹ You will break them with a rod of iron^[b];^(R)
    you will dash them to pieces^(S) like pottery.^(T)”

¹⁰ Therefore, you kings, be wise;^(U)
    be warned, you rulers^(V) of the earth.
¹¹ Serve the Lord with fear^(W)
    and celebrate his rule^(X) with trembling.^(Y)
12 Kiss his son,^(Z) or he will be angry
    and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath^(AA) can flare up in a moment.
    Blessed^(AB) are all who take refuge^(AC) in him.

² You are the most excellent of men
    and your lips have been anointed with grace,^(B)
    since God has blessed you forever.^(C)

³ Gird your sword^(D) on your side, you mighty one;^(E)
    clothe yourself with splendor and majesty.^(F)
4 In your majesty ride forth victoriously^(G)
    in the cause of truth, humility and justice;^(H)
    let your right hand^(I) achieve awesome deeds.^(J)
5 Let your sharp arrows^(K) pierce the hearts^(L) of the king’s enemies;^(M)
    let the nations fall beneath your feet.
⁶ Your throne, O God,^[c] will last for ever and ever;^(N)
    a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.
⁷ You love righteousness^(O) and hate wickedness;^(P)
    therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
    by anointing^(Q) you with the oil of joy.^(R)
8 All your robes are fragrant^(S) with myrrh^(T) and aloes^(U) and cassia;^(V)
    from palaces adorned with ivory^(W)
    the music of the strings^(X) makes you glad.
⁹ Daughters of kings^(Y) are among your honored women;
    at your right hand^(Z) is the royal bride^(AA) in gold of Ophir.^(AB)

¹⁰ Listen, daughter,^(AC) and pay careful attention:^(AD)
    Forget your people^(AE) and your father’s house.
¹¹ Let the king be enthralled by your beauty;^(AF)
    honor^(AG) him, for he is your lord.^(AH)
12 The city of Tyre^(AI) will come with a gift,^[d](AJ)
    people of wealth will seek your favor.
¹³ All glorious^(AK) is the princess within her chamber;
    her gown is interwoven with gold.^(AL)
14 In embroidered garments^(AM) she is led to the king;^(AN)
    her virgin companions^(AO) follow her—
    those brought to be with her.
¹⁵ Led in with joy and gladness,^(AP)
    they enter the palace of the king.

¹⁶ Your sons will take the place of your fathers;
    you will make them princes^(AQ) throughout the land.

¹⁷ I will perpetuate your memory through all generations;^(AR)
    therefore the nations will praise you^(AS) for ever and ever.^(AT)

⁵ The heavens^(E) praise your wonders, Lord,
    your faithfulness too, in the assembly^(F) of the holy ones.
⁶ For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord?
    Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings?^(G)
7 In the council^(H) of the holy ones^(I) God is greatly feared;
    he is more awesome than all who surround him.^(J)
8 Who is like you,^(K) Lord God Almighty?^(L)
    You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.

⁹ You rule over the surging sea;
    when its waves mount up, you still them.^(M)
10 You crushed Rahab^(N) like one of the slain;
    with your strong arm you scattered^(O) your enemies.
¹¹ The heavens are yours,^(P) and yours also the earth;^(Q)
    you founded the world and all that is in it.^(R)
12 You created the north and the south;
    Tabor^(S) and Hermon^(T) sing for joy^(U) at your name.
¹³ Your arm is endowed with power;
    your hand is strong, your right hand exalted.^(V)

¹⁴ Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;^(W)
    love and faithfulness go before you.^(X)
15 Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
    who walk^(Y) in the light^(Z) of your presence, Lord.
¹⁶ They rejoice in your name^(AA) all day long;
    they celebrate your righteousness.
¹⁷ For you are their glory and strength,^(AB)
    and by your favor you exalt our horn.^[d](AC)
18 Indeed, our shield^[e](AD) belongs to the Lord,
    our king^(AE) to the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁹ Once you spoke in a vision,
    to your faithful people you said:
“I have bestowed strength on a warrior;
    I have raised up a young man from among the people.
²⁰ I have found David^(AF) my servant;^(AG)
    with my sacred oil^(AH) I have anointed^(AI) him.
²¹ My hand will sustain him;
    surely my arm will strengthen him.^(AJ)
22 The enemy will not get the better of him;^(AK)
    the wicked will not oppress^(AL) him.
²³ I will crush his foes before him^(AM)
    and strike down his adversaries.^(AN)
24 My faithful love will be with him,^(AO)
    and through my name his horn^[f] will be exalted.
²⁵ I will set his hand over the sea,
    his right hand over the rivers.^(AP)
26 He will call out to me, ‘You are my Father,^(AQ)
    my God, the Rock^(AR) my Savior.’^(AS)
27 And I will appoint him to be my firstborn,^(AT)
    the most exalted^(AU) of the kings^(AV) of the earth.
²⁸ I will maintain my love to him forever,
    and my covenant with him will never fail.^(AW)
29 I will establish his line forever,
    his throne as long as the heavens endure.^(AX)

³⁰ “If his sons forsake my law
    and do not follow my statutes,
³¹ if they violate my decrees
    and fail to keep my commands,
³² I will punish their sin with the rod,
    their iniquity with flogging;^(AY)
33 but I will not take my love from him,^(AZ)
    nor will I ever betray my faithfulness.
³⁴ I will not violate my covenant
    or alter what my lips have uttered.^(BA)
35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness—
    and I will not lie to David—
³⁶ that his line will continue forever
    and his throne endure before me like the sun;^(BB)
37 it will be established forever like the moon,
    the faithful witness in the sky.”^(BC)

³⁸ But you have rejected,^(BD) you have spurned,
    you have been very angry with your anointed one.
³⁹ You have renounced the covenant with your servant
    and have defiled his crown in the dust.^(BE)
40 You have broken through all his walls^(BF)
    and reduced his strongholds^(BG) to ruins.
⁴¹ All who pass by have plundered^(BH) him;
    he has become the scorn of his neighbors.^(BI)
42 You have exalted the right hand of his foes;
    you have made all his enemies rejoice.^(BJ)
43 Indeed, you have turned back the edge of his sword
    and have not supported him in battle.^(BK)
44 You have put an end to his splendor
    and cast his throne to the ground.
⁴⁵ You have cut short^(BL) the days of his youth;
    you have covered him with a mantle of shame.^(BM)

⁴⁶ How long, Lord? Will you hide yourself forever?
    How long will your wrath burn like fire?^(BN)
47 Remember how fleeting is my life.^(BO)
    For what futility you have created all humanity!
⁴⁸ Who can live and not see death,
    or who can escape the power of the grave?^(BP)
49 Lord, where is your former great love,
    which in your faithfulness you swore to David?
⁵⁰ Remember, Lord, how your servant has^[g] been mocked,^(BQ)
    how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations,
⁵¹ the taunts with which your enemies, Lord, have mocked,
    with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one.^(BR)

⁵² Praise be to the Lord forever!

“Sit at my right hand^(B)
    until I make your enemies
    a footstool for your feet.”^(C)

² The Lord will extend your mighty scepter^(D) from Zion,^(E) saying,
    “Rule^(F) in the midst of your enemies!”
³ Your troops will be willing
    on your day of battle.
Arrayed in holy splendor,^(G)
    your young men will come to you
    like dew from the morning’s womb.^[b](H)

⁴ The Lord has sworn
    and will not change his mind:^(I)
“You are a priest forever,^(J)
    in the order of Melchizedek.^(K)”

⁵ The Lord is at your right hand^[c];^(L)
    he will crush kings^(M) on the day of his wrath.^(N)
6 He will judge the nations,^(O) heaping up the dead^(P)
    and crushing the rulers^(Q) of the whole earth.
⁷ He will drink from a brook along the way,^[d]
    and so he will lift his head high.^(R)

² Let Israel say:^(D)
    “His love endures forever.”^(E)
3 Let the house of Aaron say:^(F)
    “His love endures forever.”
⁴ Let those who fear the Lord^(G) say:
    “His love endures forever.”

⁵ When hard pressed,^(H) I cried to the Lord;
    he brought me into a spacious place.^(I)
6 The Lord is with me;^(J) I will not be afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?^(K)
7 The Lord is with me; he is my helper.^(L)
    I look in triumph on my enemies.^(M)

⁸ It is better to take refuge in the Lord^(N)
    than to trust in humans.^(O)
9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to trust in princes.^(P)
10 All the nations surrounded me,
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.^(Q)
11 They surrounded me^(R) on every side,^(S)
    but in the name of the Lord I cut them down.
¹² They swarmed around me like bees,^(T)
    but they were consumed as quickly as burning thorns;^(U)
    in the name of the Lord I cut them down.^(V)
13 I was pushed back and about to fall,
    but the Lord helped me.^(W)
14 The Lord is my strength^(X) and my defense^[a];
    he has become my salvation.^(Y)

¹⁵ Shouts of joy^(Z) and victory
    resound in the tents of the righteous:
“The Lord’s right hand^(AA) has done mighty things!^(AB)
16     The Lord’s right hand is lifted high;
    the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!”
¹⁷ I will not die^(AC) but live,
    and will proclaim^(AD) what the Lord has done.
¹⁸ The Lord has chastened^(AE) me severely,
    but he has not given me over to death.^(AF)
19 Open for me the gates^(AG) of the righteous;
    I will enter^(AH) and give thanks to the Lord.
²⁰ This is the gate of the Lord^(AI)
    through which the righteous may enter.^(AJ)
21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me;^(AK)
    you have become my salvation.^(AL)

²² The stone^(AM) the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone;^(AN)
23 the Lord has done this,
    and it is marvelous^(AO) in our eyes.
²⁴ The Lord has done it this very day;
    let us rejoice today and be glad.^(AP)

²⁵ Lord, save us!^(AQ)
    Lord, grant us success!

²⁶ Blessed is he who comes^(AR) in the name of the Lord.
    From the house of the Lord we bless you.^[b](AS)
27 The Lord is God,^(AT)
    and he has made his light shine^(AU) on us.
With boughs in hand,^(AV) join in the festal procession
    up^[c] to the horns of the altar.^(AW)

²⁸ You are my God, and I will praise you;
    you are my God,^(AX) and I will exalt^(AY) you.

²⁹ Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
    his love endures forever.
