³ The cords of death^(A) entangled me,
    the anguish of the grave came over me;
    I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
⁴ Then I called on the name^(B) of the Lord:
    “Lord, save me!^(C)”

⁵ The Lord is gracious and righteous;^(D)
    our God is full of compassion.^(E)
6 The Lord protects the unwary;
    when I was brought low,^(F) he saved me.^(G)

⁷ Return to your rest,^(H) my soul,
    for the Lord has been good^(I) to you.

⁵ Those who sow with tears^(A)
    will reap^(B) with songs of joy.^(C)
6 Those who go out weeping,^(D)
    carrying seed to sow,
will return with songs of joy,
    carrying sheaves with them.

⁸     he will swallow up death^(A) forever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears^(B)
    from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace^(C)
    from all the earth.
The Lord has spoken.^(D)

¹⁰     and those the Lord has rescued^(A) will return.
They will enter Zion with singing;^(B)
    everlasting joy^(C) will crown their heads.
Gladness^(D) and joy will overtake them,
    and sorrow and sighing will flee away.^(E)

¹⁸ I have seen their ways, but I will heal^(A) them;
    I will guide^(B) them and restore comfort^(C) to Israel’s mourners,
¹⁹     creating praise on their lips.^(D)
Peace, peace,^(E) to those far and near,”^(F)
    says the Lord. “And I will heal them.”

⁴ Blessed are those who mourn,
    for they will be comforted.^(A)

²¹ Blessed are you who hunger now,
    for you will be satisfied.^(A)
Blessed are you who weep now,
    for you will laugh.^(B)
