¹¹ The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain^(A) in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”^(B)

Then a great and powerful wind^(C) tore the mountains apart and shattered^(D) the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. ¹² After the earthquake came a fire,^(E) but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.^(F)

Psalm 4^[a]

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm of David.

²⁴ Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. ²⁵ The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”

²⁶ He replied, “You of little faith,^(A) why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.^(B)

²⁷ The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”

²⁷ “Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor^(A) was dressed like one of these.

²¹ “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.^(A) I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

²² “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe^(B) and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger^(C) and sandals on his feet. ²³ Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. ²⁴ For this son of mine was dead and is alive again;^(D) he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.^(E)

³² Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven^(A) and gives life to the world.”

³⁴ “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”^(B)

³⁵ Then Jesus declared, “I am^(C) the bread of life.^(D) Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes^(E) in me will never be thirsty.^(F)

³² Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven^(A) and gives life to the world.”

³⁴ “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.”^(B)
