ヨセフの見た夢
37 ヤコブはまた、カナンの地に住むことになりました。かつて父イサクが住んでいた所です。
2 この時、息子のヨセフは十七歳になっていました。腹違いの兄である、ビルハやジルパの息子たちといっしょに、父親の羊の群れの番をするのが、ヨセフの仕事でした。そんな時、兄たちが何か悪いことをすると、ヨセフはいちいち父親に知らせるのです。 3 イスラエルはヨセフを、どの息子よりもかわいがっていました。年をとってからの子だったからです。それで、彼には飾りつきの特別仕立ての服を作ってやりました。 4 こうあからさまにえこひいきされては、兄たちもおもしろくありません。ヨセフが憎らしくて、優しいことばなどかけられないのです。
5 そんなある晩、ヨセフは夢を見ました。その話をさっそく事細かに話したものですから、ますます兄たちに嫌われてしまいました。 6 「聞いてよ。僕、こんな夢を見たんだ。」得意げに、ヨセフは言いました。 7 「みんなが畑で束をたばねていたんだ。そうしたら僕の束が、いきなりすっくと立ち上がった。それからどうなったと思う？ 兄さんたちの束が回りに集まって来て、僕の束におじぎをするんだ。」
8 「じゃあ何かい、おまえがおれたちの主人になって支配するとでもいうのかい？」兄たちはせせら笑いました。「いつものことだが、なんて生意気なやつだ。だいいち、その夢が気にくわない。」ヨセフがますます憎らしくなるばかりでした。
9 ヨセフはまた夢を見て、兄たちに話しました。「また夢を見たんだけど、太陽と月と十一の星が、僕におじぎしたんだ。」 10 今度は父親にも話をしました。父親はさすがに彼をしかりつけました。「いったいどういうことなんだ！ 母さんと兄さんたちだけでなく、私までが、おまえにおじぎをするというのか。」 11 兄たちは彼がねたましくてなりませんでしたが、父親はいったいどういう意味なのかと、あれこれ考えて心に留めておきました。
エジプトに売られるヨセフ
12 ある日のこと、兄たちは羊の群れに草を食べさせるためにシェケムへ出かけました。 13-14 数日後、イスラエルはヨセフを呼び寄せて言いました。「兄さんたちはシェケムで羊に草を食べさせている。ちょっと行って、ちゃんと仕事をしているか、家畜の状態はどうか調べて来てくれないか。わかったら、戻って報告してくれ。」
「わかりました、お父さん。」ヨセフはさっそくヘブロン谷の家を出て、シェケムへ向かいました。 15 ところが、兄たちはなかなか見つかりません。シェケムの野を歩き回っていると、一人の人に呼び止められました。「おまえさん、だれを捜してるのかね。」
16 「兄たちと羊の群れです。見かけませんでしたか？」
17 「ああ、あの人たちか。だったら、ここにはもういないよ。確かドタンに行くとか言っていたな。」
ヨセフはドタンまであとを追って行き、ようやく彼らを見つけました。 18 兄たちも、ヨセフがまだ遠くにいるうちから、いち早く彼の姿を認めました。ヨセフが一人でやって来る、またとないチャンスです。そこで、とんでもない相談を始めました。彼を殺してしまおうというのです。 19-20 「あの大ぼらふきが来るぞ。あんなやつ、殺して井戸に投げ込んでしまおう。おやじには獣に食われたとでも言えばいい。例のすばらしい夢がどうなるか見たいものだ。」
21-22 けれども、ルベンはヨセフを助けたかったので、異議を唱えました。「殺すこともないじゃないか。血を流すのはよくないよ。生きたまま井戸に投げ込んでおけばいいんだ。あいつに手を下すのはやめよう。」
こうしておけば、あとで井戸から救い出し、父のもとに帰してやれると考えたのです。 23 そこへヨセフが来ました。彼らはいきなり弟の派手な飾りつきの上着をはぎ取り、 24 空っぽの井戸に投げ込みました。 25 それから、腰をおろして夕食にしたのですが、ふと気がつくと、遠くから、らくだの一隊がやって来るではありませんか。おそらく樹脂や香料、薬草類をギルアデからエジプトに運ぶ、イシュマエル人の隊商でしょう。
26-27 「おい、見ろよ。」ユダが叫びました。「イシュマエル人が来るぞ。ヨセフのやつを売り飛ばすってのはどうだい。殺すのは、どう考えても気持ちのいいもんじゃない。自分たちの手で殺したりすれば、あとでいやな思いをするだろう。虫の好かないやつだけど、やっぱり弟なんだからな。」みな賛成です。 28 そこで、隊商がそばまで来ると、ヨセフを井戸から引き上げて銀貨二十枚で彼を売りました。ヨセフはエジプトへ連れて行かれるのです。 29 〔この時、居合わせなかった〕ルベンは、こんなことになっていようとは夢にも思いません。戻って来ると、ヨセフを井戸から救い出そうとしました。ところが、ヨセフの影も形もありません。どうしたらいいのだろうと、あまりのショックで服を引き裂き（悲しみを表すときの習慣）、悲嘆にくれました。 30 「あの子がいなくなってしまった。いったいどこへ捜しに行ったらいいのだ。」ルベンは泣いて訴えました。
31 それから、兄弟たちはやぎを殺し、その血をヨセフの着ていた上着に振りかけました。 32 そして何くわぬ顔でそれを父親のところへ持って行き、だれのものか調べてほしいと頼んだのです。「お父さん、これを野で見つけました。ヨセフの上着のようですが、違いますか。」
33 ひと目見れば、だれのものかはわかります。父親はすすり泣きながら言いました。「ああ、間違いない。ヨセフの上着だよ。あの子は野獣に食われてしまったんだ。ずたずたにかみ裂かれて……。」
34 イスラエルは胸がつぶれる思いで服を引き裂き、麻布を着て、何週間もの間、息子の死を嘆き悲しみました。 35 家族が慰めようとしても、耳を貸そうともしません。「あの子は死んでしまった。何もかもおしまいだ。私もこのまま死んでしまいたい」と言って泣きました。
36 一方、エジプトに着いた隊商は、ヨセフをエジプト王に仕える役人ポティファルに売りました。ポティファルは侍従長という立場にある宮廷の役人で、監獄の責任者でした。

Joseph’s Dreams
37 Jacob lived in the land where his father had stayed,(A) the land of Canaan.(B)
2 This is the account(C) of Jacob’s family line.
Joseph,(D) a young man of seventeen,(E) was tending the flocks(F) with his brothers, the sons of Bilhah(G) and the sons of Zilpah,(H) his father’s wives, and he brought their father a bad report(I) about them.
3 Now Israel(J) loved Joseph more than any of his other sons,(K) because he had been born to him in his old age;(L) and he made an ornate[a] robe(M) for him.(N) 4 When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him(O) and could not speak a kind word to him.
5 Joseph had a dream,(P) and when he told it to his brothers,(Q) they hated him all the more.(R) 6 He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: 7 We were binding sheaves(S) of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.”(T)
8 His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?”(U) And they hated him all the more(V) because of his dream and what he had said.
9 Then he had another dream,(W) and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars(X) were bowing down to me.”(Y)
10 When he told his father as well as his brothers,(Z) his father rebuked(AA) him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?”(AB) 11 His brothers were jealous of him,(AC) but his father kept the matter in mind.(AD)
Joseph Sold by His Brothers
12 Now his brothers had gone to graze their father’s flocks near Shechem,(AE) 13 and Israel(AF) said to Joseph, “As you know, your brothers are grazing the flocks near Shechem.(AG) Come, I am going to send you to them.”
“Very well,” he replied.
14 So he said to him, “Go and see if all is well with your brothers(AH) and with the flocks, and bring word back to me.” Then he sent him off from the Valley of Hebron.(AI)
When Joseph arrived at Shechem, 15 a man found him wandering around in the fields and asked him, “What are you looking for?”
16 He replied, “I’m looking for my brothers. Can you tell me where they are grazing their flocks?”
17 “They have moved on from here,” the man answered. “I heard them say, ‘Let’s go to Dothan.(AJ)’”
So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan. 18 But they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him.(AK)
19 “Here comes that dreamer!(AL)” they said to each other. 20 “Come now, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns(AM) and say that a ferocious animal(AN) devoured him.(AO) Then we’ll see what comes of his dreams.”(AP)
21 When Reuben(AQ) heard this, he tried to rescue him from their hands. “Let’s not take his life,” he said.(AR) 22 “Don’t shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern(AS) here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.” Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father.(AT)
23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe—the ornate robe(AU) he was wearing— 24 and they took him and threw him into the cistern.(AV) The cistern was empty; there was no water in it.
25 As they sat down to eat their meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites(AW) coming from Gilead.(AX) Their camels were loaded with spices, balm(AY) and myrrh,(AZ) and they were on their way to take them down to Egypt.(BA)
26 Judah(BB) said to his brothers, “What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood?(BC) 27 Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother,(BD) our own flesh and blood.(BE)” His brothers agreed.
28 So when the Midianite(BF) merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern(BG) and sold(BH) him for twenty shekels[b] of silver(BI) to the Ishmaelites,(BJ) who took him to Egypt.(BK)
29 When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes.(BL) 30 He went back to his brothers and said, “The boy isn’t there! Where can I turn now?”(BM)
31 Then they got Joseph’s robe,(BN) slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood.(BO) 32 They took the ornate robe(BP) back to their father and said, “We found this. Examine it to see whether it is your son’s robe.”
33 He recognized it and said, “It is my son’s robe! Some ferocious animal(BQ) has devoured him. Joseph has surely been torn to pieces.”(BR)
34 Then Jacob tore his clothes,(BS) put on sackcloth(BT) and mourned for his son many days.(BU) 35 All his sons and daughters came to comfort him,(BV) but he refused to be comforted.(BW) “No,” he said, “I will continue to mourn until I join my son(BX) in the grave.(BY)” So his father wept for him.
36 Meanwhile, the Midianites[c](BZ) sold Joseph(CA) in Egypt to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard.(CB)

ユダとタマル
38 そのころ、ユダは家を出て、ヒラというアドラム人の近くに住むことになりました。 2 そこでカナン人シュアの娘を見そめ、結婚しました。 3-5 彼らはケジブに住み、エル、オナン、シェラという三人の息子をもうけました。子どもたちの名前は母親がつけたものです。ただし、エルだけは父親がつけました。
6 長男エルが成人すると、ユダはタマルという娘と結婚させました。 7 ところが、エルは主の目に悪い者だったので神の怒りを買い、いのちを落としてしまったのです。
8 ユダは弟のオナンに言いました。「おまえはタマルと結婚しなければいけない。それが、兄に先立たれた弟の義務なのだ。そうして子どもができたら、兄の家系を継がせるのだ。」
9 しかしオナンは、自分の子として育てられないような子どもなら、いらないと思いました。それで、結婚はしましたが、いっしょに寝る時はいつも、子どもができないようにベッドの上に射精していました。兄の子孫になる子どもを産ませたくなかったのです。 10 しかし、主がそんなことをお赦しになるはずはなく、結局、彼もいのちを落としてしまいました。 11 打つ手がなくなったので、ユダは嫁のタマルに、しばらく実家へ帰ることを勧めました。末息子のシェラが結婚できる年齢になったら必ず呼び戻す、という条件で、ひとまず両親のもとへ帰したのです。しかし、それは表向きで、ほんとうはシェラと結婚させる気はありませんでした。この子まで、二人の兄と同じように、神に殺されてはたまりません。タマルは、言われたとおり両親のもとへ帰りました。
12 何年かして、ユダの妻が死にました。喪の期間が過ぎると、ユダは友人のアドラム人ヒラと、ティムナへ行って羊の毛を刈る仕事を監督することにしました。 13 ある人がタマルに、そのことを教えました。 14 シェラはもう大人になっているのに、彼と結婚させてもらえないことを、タマルはこの時すでに感づいていました。そこで、未亡人の服を脱ぎ、ベールをかぶって、エナイムの村の入口の道路わきに座りました。エナイムはティムナへ行く途中にあります。 15 ユダはそこを通りかかった時、彼女を売春婦だと思いました。顔をベールで隠していたので、タマルとはわからなかったのです。 16 彼は足を止め、自分の相手をしてくれと誘いました。もちろん、義理の娘だとは夢にも思いません。
「いくらで？」
17 「子やぎ一頭ではどうだ？ あとできっと送ってやるから。」
「送ってくれるったって、確かな保証がなければだめよ。」
18 「それはもっともだ。で、何が欲しいのかね。」
「そうね、あなたの印章と杖がいいわ。」
ユダは言われたとおりにしました。タマルは彼を家に引き入れ、一夜を共にしました。こうして彼女は子どもを身ごもり、 19 その後また未亡人の服を身につけました。 20 ユダはアドラム人ヒラに子やぎを届けてもらおうとしました。そして、預けた品を取り戻すつもりでした。ところが、いくら捜しても、それらしい女は見つかりません。 21 ヒラは町の男たちの間を尋ね回りました。「ちょっとお尋ねしますが、村の入口の道ばたで客を取っていた女は、どこに住んでいるのでしょう。」
「さあね、この辺じゃ、そんな女がいるという話は聞いたこともないが。」同じ答えが返ってくるばかりです。 22 しかたがありません。ユダのところへ帰り、八方手を尽くして捜したが、女は見つからず、だれも心当たりのある者はいなかったことを伝えました。
23 「それでは、しかたがない。あれは女にやったと思えばいい。できるだけのことはしたのだ。またあそこへ取りに戻ったりすれば、町中のいい笑い者になるだけだ。」ユダもあきらめるしかありませんでした。
24 さて、それから三か月ほどしたある日、タマルに子どもができたという知らせが届きました。未亡人の身でありながら、ふしだらなことをしたに違いないというのです。
「けしからん。ここへ連れて来て焼き殺してしまえ。」ユダは、かんかんに怒って叫びました。 25 人々はタマルの家へ押しかけ、外に引きずり出そうとしました。このままでは殺されてしまいます。彼女は急いで義父に言づてを送りました。「この印章と杖の持ち主が、生まれて来る子の父親です。だれの物か、おわかりですね。」
26 ユダはひと目見て驚きました。なんと自分が渡した品物ではありませんか。「私が悪かった。タマルを責めるわけにはいかない。こうなったのもみな、私が息子のシェラと結婚させると約束しながら、それを守らなかったからだ。」そしてユダは、二度と彼女と寝ることはありませんでした。
27 月が満ちて、タマルはふたごの男の子を産みました。 28 生まれる時、助産婦は、最初に手を出した子の腕の回りに赤い糸を結びました。 29 ところが、その子は手を引っ込めてしまい、もう一人のほうが先に生まれたのです。「おやまあ、この子ったら、先に飛び出したりして」と、助産婦は思わず叫びました。それで、その子の名はペレツ〔「飛び出して来た者」の意〕となりました。 30 そのあとすぐ、腕に赤い糸をつけた子どもが生まれました。彼はゼラフ（「輝く」の意）と名づけられました。

Judah and Tamar
38 At that time, Judah(A) left his brothers and went down to stay with a man of Adullam(B) named Hirah.(C) 2 There Judah met the daughter of a Canaanite man named Shua.(D) He married her and made love to her; 3 she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, who was named Er.(E) 4 She conceived again and gave birth to a son and named him Onan.(F) 5 She gave birth to still another son and named him Shelah.(G) It was at Kezib that she gave birth to him.
6 Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.(H) 7 But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight;(I) so the Lord put him to death.(J)
8 Then Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your brother.”(K) 9 But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death also.(L)
11 Judah then said to his daughter-in-law(M) Tamar,(N) “Live as a widow in your father’s household(O) until my son Shelah(P) grows up.”(Q) For he thought, “He may die too, just like his brothers.” So Tamar went to live in her father’s household.
12 After a long time Judah’s wife, the daughter of Shua,(R) died. When Judah had recovered from his grief, he went up to Timnah,(S) to the men who were shearing his sheep,(T) and his friend Hirah the Adullamite(U) went with him.
13 When Tamar(V) was told, “Your father-in-law is on his way to Timnah to shear his sheep,”(W) 14 she took off her widow’s clothes,(X) covered herself with a veil(Y) to disguise herself, and then sat down(Z) at the entrance to Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah.(AA) For she saw that, though Shelah(AB) had now grown up, she had not been given to him as his wife.
15 When Judah saw her, he thought she was a prostitute,(AC) for she had covered her face. 16 Not realizing(AD) that she was his daughter-in-law,(AE) he went over to her by the roadside and said, “Come now, let me sleep with you.”(AF)
“And what will you give me to sleep with you?”(AG) she asked.
17 “I’ll send you a young goat(AH) from my flock,” he said.
“Will you give me something as a pledge(AI) until you send it?” she asked.
18 He said, “What pledge should I give you?”
“Your seal(AJ) and its cord, and the staff(AK) in your hand,” she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.(AL) 19 After she left, she took off her veil and put on her widow’s clothes(AM) again.
20 Meanwhile Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite(AN) in order to get his pledge(AO) back from the woman, but he did not find her. 21 He asked the men who lived there, “Where is the shrine prostitute(AP) who was beside the road at Enaim?”
“There hasn’t been any shrine prostitute here,” they said.
22 So he went back to Judah and said, “I didn’t find her. Besides, the men who lived there said, ‘There hasn’t been any shrine prostitute here.’”
23 Then Judah said, “Let her keep what she has,(AQ) or we will become a laughingstock.(AR) After all, I did send her this young goat, but you didn’t find her.”
24 About three months later Judah was told, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar is guilty of prostitution, and as a result she is now pregnant.”
Judah said, “Bring her out and have her burned to death!”(AS)
25 As she was being brought out, she sent a message to her father-in-law. “I am pregnant by the man who owns these,” she said. And she added, “See if you recognize whose seal and cord and staff these are.”(AT)
26 Judah recognized them and said, “She is more righteous than I,(AU) since I wouldn’t give her to my son Shelah.(AV)” And he did not sleep with her again.
27 When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.(AW) 28 As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife(AX) took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist(AY) and said, “This one came out first.” 29 But when he drew back his hand, his brother came out,(AZ) and she said, “So this is how you have broken out!” And he was named Perez.[a](BA) 30 Then his brother, who had the scarlet thread on his wrist,(BB) came out. And he was named Zerah.[b](BC)

7 私の神、主よ。
頼れるのは、ただあなただけです。
どうか、迫害する者からお救いください。
2 だれも助ける者がいないために、
彼らがライオンのように襲いかかり、
私をさらって行くことがありませんように。
3 主よ。
もし、私が悪事を働いているのなら、
4 悪をもって善に報い、
えり好みして人を不当に攻撃しているというのなら、
5 もしそうであれば、敵が私を滅ぼし、押しつぶし、
ちりの中でこのいのちを踏みにじることを
神がお許しになったとしても、
私は何も言えません。
6 しかし、主よ。
怒り狂う敵に対しては、
どうぞ怒りをもって立ち上がってください。
目を覚ましてください。
どうか、正しいさばきを行ってください、主よ。
7-8 異邦の民を召集し、高い座から
彼らの罪をさばいてください。
そして、私の潔白を明らかにしてください。
全員の前で、私の名誉を回復し、
誠実を証明してください。
9 ああ主よ、すべての悪を根絶やしにし、
心の底から主を礼拝する者を祝福してください。
正しい神である主は、人の心の奥底まで見抜き、
いっさいの動機と思いとをお調べになります。
10 神は私の盾。
私を守ってくださるお方です。
神は、真実で正しい人を救われます。
11 神は公平な裁判官。
日々、悪者には怒りを燃やします。
12 悔い改めない者を
研ぎすました剣で殺します。
神は弓を引きしぼり、
13 恐ろしい火の矢をつがえています。
14 悪者は良くないことを考え、
陰謀を企てては、偽りと背信に走ります。
15 そのような者たちは、
自らしかけた罠に落ち込みます。
16 他人にふるった暴力がわが身に跳ね返り、
いのちを奪われるといいのに。
17 ああ、どれほど主に感謝していることでしょう。
その恵みは測り知れません。
王の王なる主の御名を、力の限りほめ歌います。

1 Lord my God, I take refuge(B) in you;
save and deliver me(C) from all who pursue me,(D)
2 or they will tear me apart like a lion(E)
and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue(F) me.
3 Lord my God, if I have done this
and there is guilt on my hands(G)—
4 if I have repaid my ally with evil
or without cause(H) have robbed my foe—
5 then let my enemy pursue and overtake(I) me;
let him trample my life to the ground(J)
and make me sleep in the dust.[c](K)
6 Arise,(L) Lord, in your anger;
rise up against the rage of my enemies.(M)
Awake,(N) my God; decree justice.
7 Let the assembled peoples gather around you,
while you sit enthroned over them on high.(O)

15 イエスの教えを聞きに来る人たちの中には、あくどい取り立てをする取税人や罪人といわれる者たちがかなりいました。 2 ユダヤ教の指導者や律法の専門家は、イエスがそういう問題の多い人々とつきあい、時には食事までいっしょにするのを見て、批判しました。
3 そこでイエスは、次のようなたとえ話をなさいました。 4 「羊を百匹持っているとします。そのうちの一匹が迷い出て、荒野で行方がわからなくなったらどうしますか。ほかの九十九匹は放っておいて、いなくなった一匹が見つかるまで捜し歩くでしょう。 5 そして、見つかったら、大喜びで羊を肩にかつぎ上げ、 6 家に帰ると、さっそく友達や近所の人たちを呼び集めて、いっしょに喜んでもらうでしょう。 7 それと同じことです。迷い出た一人の罪人が神のもとに帰った時は、迷ったことのない九十九人を合わせたよりも大きな喜びが、天にあふれるのです。
8 別のたとえで話してみましょう。女が銀貨を十枚持っていて、もし一枚なくしてしまったら、女はランプをつけ、家の中をすみからすみまで掃除して、その一枚を見つけるまで、必死で捜し回るでしょう。 9 そして見つけ出したら、友達や近所の人を呼び、いっしょに喜んでもらうでしょう。 10 同じように、一人の罪人が罪を悔いて神のもとに帰った時、天使たちはたいへんな喜びにわくのです。」
11 イエスはもっとよく説明しようと、また別のたとえも話されました。「ある人に息子が二人いました。 12 ある日、弟のほうが出し抜けに、『お父さん。あなたが亡くなってからでなく、今すぐ財産の分け前がほしいんです』と言いだしたのです。それで父親は、二人にそれぞれ財産を分けてやりました。 13 もらう物をもらうと、何日もたたないうちに、弟は荷物をまとめ、遠い国に旅立ちました。そこで放蕩に明け暮れ、財産を使い果たしてしまいました。 14 一文なしになった時、その国に大ききんが起こり、食べる物にも事欠くようになりました。 15 それで彼は、その国のある人のもとで、畑で豚を飼う仕事をもらいました。 16 あまりのひもじさに、豚のえさのいなご豆さえ食べたいほどでしたが、だれも食べる物をくれません。 17 こんな毎日を送るうち、彼もやっと目が覚めました。『お父さんの家なら雇い人にだって、あり余るほど食べ物があるだろうに。なのに自分は、なんてみじめなんだ。こんな所で飢え死にしかけている。 18 そうだ、家に帰ろう。帰って、お父さんに頼もう。「お父さん。すみませんでした。神様にもお父さんにも、罪を犯してしまいました。 19 もう息子と呼ばれる資格はありません。どうか、雇い人として使ってください。」』
20 決心がつくと、彼は父親のもとに帰って行きました。ところが、家まではまだ遠く離れていたというのに、父親は息子の姿をいち早く見つけたのです。『あれが帰って来た。かわいそうに、あんなみすぼらしいなりで。』こう思うと、じっと待ってなどいられません。走り寄って抱きしめ、口づけしました。 21 『お父さん。すみませんでした。ぼくは、神様にもお父さんにも、罪を犯してしまいました。もう息子と呼ばれる資格はありません。』 22 ところが父親は、使用人たちにこう言いつけたのです。『さあ、何をぼやぼやしている。一番良い服を出して、この子に着せてやりなさい。宝石のついた指輪も、くつもだ。 23 それから肥えた子牛を料理して、盛大な祝宴の用意をしなさい。 24 死んだものとあきらめていた息子が生き返り、行方の知れなかった息子が帰って来たのだから。』こうして祝宴が始まりました。
25 ところで、兄のほうはどうだったでしょう。彼は、その日も畑で働いていました。家に戻ってみると、何やら楽しげな踊りの音楽が聞こえます。 26 いったい何事かと、使用人の一人に尋ねると、 27 『弟さんが帰って来られたのです。だんな様は、たいへんなお喜びで、肥えた子牛を料理し、ご無事を祝う宴会を開いておられるのです』というのです。 28 事情を聞いて、兄は無性に腹が立ってきました。家に入ろうともしません。父親が出て来てなだめましたが、 29 兄は父に食ってかかりました。『私はこれまで、お父さんのために汗水流して働いてきました。お父さんの言いつけに、ただの一度もそむいたことはありません。なのに、友達と宴会を開けと言って、子やぎ一匹くれたことがありますか。 30 ところが、遊女におぼれてあなたのお金を使い果たした弟のためには、最上の子牛を料理して、お祭り騒ぎをするのですか。』 31 すると、父親は言いました。『いいか、よく聞きなさい。おまえはいつだって、私のそばにいたではないか。私のものは全部おまえのものだ。 32 考えてもみなさい。あれはおまえの弟なのだよ。死んだと思ってあきらめていたのが、無事に帰って来たのだ。いなくなっていたのが見つかったのだから、お祝いするのはあたりまえではないか。』」

The Parable of the Lost Sheep(A)
15 Now the tax collectors(B) and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.”(C)
3 Then Jesus told them this parable:(D) 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?(E) 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’(F) 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.(G)
The Parable of the Lost Coin
8 “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[a] and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? 9 And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’(H) 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”(I)
The Parable of the Lost Son
11 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons.(J) 12 The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’(K) So he divided his property(L) between them.
13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth(M) in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.(N) 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.
17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned(O) against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.(P)
21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.(Q) I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe(R) and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger(S) and sandals on his feet. 23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again;(T) he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.(U)
25 “Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. 26 So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. 27 ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’
28 “The older brother became angry(V) and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. 29 But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours who has squandered your property(W) with prostitutes(X) comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’
31 “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’”(Y)
