Seeing the Invisible

16 Therefore we (A)do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is (B)being renewed day by day. 17 For (C)our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 (D)while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Assurance of the Resurrection

For we know that if (E)our earthly [a]house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house (F)not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this (G)we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our [b]habitation which is from heaven, if indeed, (H)having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, (I)but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also (J)has given us the Spirit as [c]a guarantee.

So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For (K)we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, (L)well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

16 wherefore, we faint not, but if also our outward man doth decay, yet the inward is renewed day by day;

17 for the momentary light matter of our tribulation, more and more exceedingly an age-during weight of glory doth work out for us --

18 we not looking to the things seen, but to the things not seen; for the things seen [are] temporary, but the things not seen [are] age-during.

For we have known that if our earthly house of the tabernacle may be thrown down, a building from God we have, an house not made with hands -- age-during -- in the heavens,

for also in this we groan, with our dwelling that is from heaven earnestly desiring to clothe ourselves,

if so be that, having clothed ourselves, we shall not be found naked,

for we also who are in the tabernacle do groan, being burdened, seeing we wish not to unclothe ourselves, but to clothe ourselves, that the mortal may be swallowed up of the life.

And He who did work us to this self-same thing [is] God, who also did give to us the earnest of the Spirit;

having courage, then, at all times, and knowing that being at home in the body, we are away from home from the Lord, --

for through faith we walk, not through sight --

we have courage, and are well pleased rather to be away from the home of the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

16 Therefore we (A)do not lose heart, but though our outer person is decaying, yet our (B)inner person is (C)being renewed day by day. 17 For our momentary, (D)light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18 while we (E)look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

The Temporal and Eternal

For we know that if our [a](F)earthly (G)tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house (H)not made by hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed, in this tent we (I)groan, longing to be (J)clothed with our [b]dwelling from heaven, since in fact after putting it on, we will not be found naked. For indeed, we who are in this tent (K)groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be (L)clothed, so that what is (M)mortal will be swallowed up by life. Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who (N)gave us the Spirit as a [c]pledge.

Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that (O)while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord— for (P)we walk by faith, not by [d]sight— but we are of good courage and (Q)prefer rather to be absent from the body and (R)to be at home with the Lord.
