シリヤとイスラエルの戦い
20 シリヤ（アラム）の王ベン・ハダデ二世は全軍を率い、三十二の同盟国の戦車や騎兵の大軍とともに、イスラエルの首都サマリヤを包囲しました。 2-3 王はサマリヤの町に使者を立て、イスラエルのアハブ王にこう伝えました。「あなたの金銀は私のものだ。あなたの美しい妻たちも、器量よしの子どもたちも。」 4 アハブは、「王よ。仰せのとおり、私が持っているものはみなあなたのものです」と答えました。
5-6 やがてベン・ハダデ王の使者が再び来て、別のことづけを伝えました。「金銀、妻子をもらうだけではすまない。明日の今ごろ、私の家臣を差し向ける。宮殿とあなたの家来の家とを家捜しし、欲しいものを手当たりしだい持ち帰ることにする。」
7 そこで、アハブは相談役の長老たちを呼び、窮状を訴えました。「あの男が何をしようとしているか、ぜひとも知ってくれ。私は彼の要求どおり妻子や金銀を与えると言ったのに、図に乗って難題を吹っかけてきた。」
8 「これ以上、要求を聞かないでください」と、彼らは言いました。 9 そこでアハブは、ベン・ハダデがよこした使者に言いました。「王にお伝え願いたい。『初めにあなたが要求なさったものはすべて差し上げます。ですが、このたびのことはできません』と。」使者はベン・ハダデのもとへ帰って報告しました。
10 するとシリヤの王は、またことづけを送ってきました。「もし私が、サマリヤを一つかみのちりに変えてしまわなかったら、どうか神々が、私がおまえにしようとしている以上のことを、私にしてくださるように。」
11 イスラエルの王は答えました。「あまり大きなことを言うものではない。」
12 このアハブ王の返事がベン・ハダデをはじめ同盟軍の王たちに届いた時、彼らはテントの中で酒をくみ交わしていました。そこでベン・ハダデは、「何をこしゃくな。よし、攻撃の準備だ！」と、将校たちに命じました。
13 そのころ、一人の預言者がアハブ王に会いに来て、主のことばを伝えました。「主は言われます。『あの敵の大軍を見たか。わたしは今日、敵をあなたの手に渡そう。そうすれば、いかにあなたでも、わたしこそ神であると思い知るだろう。』」
14 王が、「どのようにして、そうなるのか」と尋ねると、預言者は、「『外国人部隊によって』と、主は言っておられます」と答えました。
「こちらから攻撃をしかけるのか。」
「そうです。」
15 そこで王は、二百三十二人の外国人部隊と、七千人のイスラエル軍を召集しました。 16 真昼ごろ、アハブ王の先頭部隊はサマリヤを出陣しました。そのころ、ベン・ハダデ王と三十二人の同盟軍の王はまだ酒を飲んでいました。
17 外国人部隊を見た彼らの斥候は、「少数の敵が攻めて来ます」と報告しました。 18 ベン・ハダデ王は、「休戦のために来たにしろ、戦うために来たにしろ、生け捕りにしてしまえ」と命じました。
19 そのころには、すでにアハブ王の全軍が攻撃に加わり、 20 手当たりしだいにシリヤ兵を殺したので、シリヤ軍はパニック状態に陥り、いっせいに逃げ出しました。イスラエル軍は追撃し、ベン・ハダデ王と少数の者だけが馬で逃げ延びました。 21 こうして、イスラエル軍はシリヤ軍の大半を虐殺し、おびただしい数の馬と戦車を分捕ったのです。
22 そののち、あの預言者がアハブ王に近づいて来て、「シリヤ王の二度目の襲来に備えなさい」と忠告しました。
23 実際、大敗北のあと、ベン・ハダデ王の家臣たちは王にこう進言していたのです。「イスラエルの神は山の神だから、今回は負けたのです。平地なら難なく勝てます。 24 今度だけは、連合軍の王の代わりに、将軍たちを指揮官に任命してください。 25 失った分の兵力を補充し、以前と同じ数の馬と戦車と兵をわれわれにお任せください。彼らと平地で戦い、必ずや勝利を収めてごらんに入れます。」王は、彼らの進言を受け入れました。
26 翌年、ベン・ハダデはシリヤ軍を動員し、再びイスラエルと戦うためにアフェクに向けて進軍しました。 27 イスラエル側も全軍を集め、装備を固めて戦場に向かいました。しかし、アフェクを埋め尽くしているシリヤの大軍に比べて、イスラエル軍は二つの小さなやぎの群れのようにしか見えませんでした。 28 その時、一人の神の人（預言者）がイスラエルの王に近づき、主のことばを伝えました。「シリヤ人が、『イスラエルの神は山の神で、平地の神ではない』と言うので、わたしはあなたを助けて、この大軍を負かそう。そうすればあなたも、わたしこそ神だと認めるようになるだろう。」
29 両軍は、陣を敷いたまま向かい合っていましたが、七日目に戦いが始まりました。最初の日に、イスラエル軍はシリヤ軍の歩兵十万を殺しました。 30 生き残った者は、アフェクの城壁の裏に逃げました。ところが、城壁がくずれ落ちて、さらに二万七千人が死にました。ベン・ハダデは町の中に逃げ込み、ある家の奥に隠れました。
31 家臣が王に申し出ました。「王よ。イスラエルの王はたいそうあわれみ深いと聞いております。それで、私たちが荒布をまとい、首になわをかけて、イスラエルの王のもとに行くのを許してください。あなたの命乞いをしたいのです。」
32 こうして、彼らはイスラエルの王のもとに行き、「アハブ王のしもべであるベン・ハダデが、『どうか、いのちだけはお助けください』と申しております」と懇願しました。イスラエルの王は、「そうか、彼はまだ生きていたのか。彼は私の兄弟だ」と答えました。 33 使者はそのことばに望みを託して、「おことばのとおりでございます。ベン・ハダデはあなた様の兄弟です」とあいづちを打ちました。イスラエルの王は、「彼を連れて来なさい」と言いました。ベン・ハダデが到着すると、なんと、アハブは彼を自分の戦車に招き入れたのです。 34 ベン・ハダデはすっかり感激して、「私の父があなたの父上から奪い取った町々をお返しします。父がサマリヤにしたように、あなたもダマスコに市場を開いてください」と言いました。こうして協定が成立しました。
アハブに対する叱責
35 一方、主の命令によって、ある預言者が仲間の預言者に、「あなたの剣で私を切ってくれ」と言いました。しかし、その人は拒みました。 36 そこで、その預言者は言いました。「あなたは主のことばに従わなかったので、ここを出るとすぐライオンに食い殺される。」はたして、その人が出て行くと、ライオンに襲われて死にました。 37 それから、その預言者はまた別の人に、「あなたの剣で私を切ってくれ」と頼みました。すると、その人は彼に切りつけて傷を負わせました。
38 それからその預言者は、目に包帯を巻き、だれだかわからないようにしたまま、道ばたでアハブ王を待っていました。 39 王が通りかかると、預言者は王を呼び止めました。「王よ。私が戦場にいると、ある人が捕虜を連れて来て、『こいつを見張っていてくれ。逃がしたら、いのちはないぞ。 40 それでも助かりたければ、銀一タラント出せ！』と言ったのです。ところが、私がほかのことに気を奪われている間に、その捕虜がいなくなりました。」すると王は、「それはおまえの責任だ、銀一タラントを支払え」と言いました。
41 この時、彼が包帯をはずしたので、王は、彼が預言者だとわかりました。 42 預言者は言いました。「主はこう仰せになります。『わたしが滅ぼそうとした者を助けたので、あなたは彼の代わりに殺される。あなたの民は彼の民の代わりに滅びる。』」
43 王はたちまち不きげんになり、腹を立ててサマリヤに帰って行きました。

Ben-Hadad Attacks Samaria
20 Now Ben-Hadad(A) king of Aram mustered his entire army. Accompanied by thirty-two kings with their horses and chariots, he went up and besieged Samaria(B) and attacked it. 2 He sent messengers into the city to Ahab king of Israel, saying, “This is what Ben-Hadad says: 3 ‘Your silver and gold are mine, and the best of your wives and children are mine.’”
4 The king of Israel answered, “Just as you say, my lord the king. I and all I have are yours.”
5 The messengers came again and said, “This is what Ben-Hadad says: ‘I sent to demand your silver and gold, your wives and your children. 6 But about this time tomorrow I am going to send my officials to search your palace and the houses of your officials. They will seize everything you value and carry it away.’”
7 The king of Israel summoned all the elders(C) of the land and said to them, “See how this man is looking for trouble!(D) When he sent for my wives and my children, my silver and my gold, I did not refuse him.”
8 The elders and the people all answered, “Don’t listen to him or agree to his demands.”
9 So he replied to Ben-Hadad’s messengers, “Tell my lord the king, ‘Your servant will do all you demanded the first time, but this demand I cannot meet.’” They left and took the answer back to Ben-Hadad.
10 Then Ben-Hadad sent another message to Ahab: “May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if enough dust(E) remains in Samaria to give each of my men a handful.”
11 The king of Israel answered, “Tell him: ‘One who puts on his armor should not boast(F) like one who takes it off.’”
12 Ben-Hadad heard this message while he and the kings were drinking(G) in their tents,[a] and he ordered his men: “Prepare to attack.” So they prepared to attack the city.
Ahab Defeats Ben-Hadad
13 Meanwhile a prophet(H) came to Ahab king of Israel and announced, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Do you see this vast army? I will give it into your hand today, and then you will know(I) that I am the Lord.’”
14 “But who will do this?” asked Ahab.
The prophet replied, “This is what the Lord says: ‘The junior officers under the provincial commanders will do it.’”
“And who will start(J) the battle?” he asked.
The prophet answered, “You will.”
15 So Ahab summoned the 232 junior officers under the provincial commanders. Then he assembled the rest of the Israelites, 7,000 in all. 16 They set out at noon while Ben-Hadad and the 32 kings allied with him were in their tents getting drunk.(K) 17 The junior officers under the provincial commanders went out first.
Now Ben-Hadad had dispatched scouts, who reported, “Men are advancing from Samaria.”
18 He said, “If they have come out for peace, take them alive; if they have come out for war, take them alive.”
19 The junior officers under the provincial commanders marched out of the city with the army behind them 20 and each one struck down his opponent. At that, the Arameans fled, with the Israelites in pursuit. But Ben-Hadad king of Aram escaped on horseback with some of his horsemen. 21 The king of Israel advanced and overpowered the horses and chariots and inflicted heavy losses on the Arameans.
22 Afterward, the prophet(L) came to the king of Israel and said, “Strengthen your position and see what must be done, because next spring(M) the king of Aram will attack you again.”
23 Meanwhile, the officials of the king of Aram advised him, “Their gods are gods(N) of the hills. That is why they were too strong for us. But if we fight them on the plains, surely we will be stronger than they. 24 Do this: Remove all the kings from their commands and replace them with other officers. 25 You must also raise an army like the one you lost—horse for horse and chariot for chariot—so we can fight Israel on the plains. Then surely we will be stronger than they.” He agreed with them and acted accordingly.
26 The next spring(O) Ben-Hadad mustered the Arameans and went up to Aphek(P) to fight against Israel. 27 When the Israelites were also mustered and given provisions, they marched out to meet them. The Israelites camped opposite them like two small flocks of goats, while the Arameans covered the countryside.(Q)
28 The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Because the Arameans think the Lord is a god of the hills and not a god(R) of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know(S) that I am the Lord.’”
29 For seven days they camped opposite each other, and on the seventh day the battle was joined. The Israelites inflicted a hundred thousand casualties on the Aramean foot soldiers in one day. 30 The rest of them escaped to the city of Aphek,(T) where the wall collapsed(U) on twenty-seven thousand of them. And Ben-Hadad fled to the city and hid(V) in an inner room.
31 His officials said to him, “Look, we have heard that the kings of Israel are merciful.(W) Let us go to the king of Israel with sackcloth(X) around our waists and ropes around our heads. Perhaps he will spare your life.”
32 Wearing sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Israel and said, “Your servant Ben-Hadad says: ‘Please let me live.’”
The king answered, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”
33 The men took this as a good sign and were quick to pick up his word. “Yes, your brother Ben-Hadad!” they said.
“Go and get him,” the king said. When Ben-Hadad came out, Ahab had him come up into his chariot.
34 “I will return the cities(Y) my father took from your father,” Ben-Hadad(Z) offered. “You may set up your own market areas(AA) in Damascus,(AB) as my father did in Samaria.”
Ahab said, “On the basis of a treaty(AC) I will set you free.” So he made a treaty with him, and let him go.
A Prophet Condemns Ahab
35 By the word of the Lord one of the company of the prophets(AD) said to his companion, “Strike me with your weapon,” but he refused.(AE)
36 So the prophet said, “Because you have not obeyed the Lord, as soon as you leave me a lion(AF) will kill you.” And after the man went away, a lion found him and killed him.
37 The prophet found another man and said, “Strike me, please.” So the man struck him and wounded him. 38 Then the prophet went and stood by the road waiting for the king. He disguised himself with his headband down over his eyes. 39 As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him, “Your servant went into the thick of the battle, and someone came to me with a captive and said, ‘Guard this man. If he is missing, it will be your life for his life,(AG) or you must pay a talent[b] of silver.’ 40 While your servant was busy here and there, the man disappeared.”
“That is your sentence,”(AH) the king of Israel said. “You have pronounced it yourself.”
41 Then the prophet quickly removed the headband from his eyes, and the king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets. 42 He said to the king, “This is what the Lord says: ‘You(AI) have set free a man I had determined should die.[c](AJ) Therefore it is your life for his life,(AK) your people for his people.’” 43 Sullen and angry,(AL) the king of Israel went to his palace in Samaria.

ナボテのぶどう畑
21 イズレエル出身のナボテは、町はずれのアハブ王の宮殿の近くに、ぶどう畑を持っていました。 2 ある日、王はナボテに、畑を譲ってほしいと申し出ました。「あそこを庭にしたい。宮殿に近いから、とても便利なのだ。」王は、銀で買い取ってもよいし、もしナボテが望むなら、もっと良い地を代わりに与えてもよいと言いました。 3 ところがナボテは、「どんなことがあっても、お譲りするわけにはまいりません。あそこは先祖伝来の土地なのです」と答えました。 4 王は不きげんになり、怒りながら宮殿に戻り、食事もせず、壁の方を向いたままベッドに横になっていました。
5 妻のイゼベルが入って来て、アハブに尋ねました。「いったい、どうなさったのですか。お食事もなさらないとは。そんなにふさぎ込むほど、腹にすえかねることでもあったのですか。」そこで、アハブは答えました。 6 「ナボテに、『ぶどう畑を売ってくれ、何ならほかの土地と交換してもいい』と頼んだのだが、あっさり断られてしまったのだ。」イゼベルは言いました。 7 「まあ、あなたはイスラエルの王ではありませんか。さあ起きて、お食事をなさってください。そんなことで心配なさるには及びません。私がナボテのぶどう畑を手に入れてみせますから。」
8 イゼベルは王の名で手紙を書き、王の印を押して、ナボテが住むイズレエルの町の長老に送りました。 9 手紙には、こう書いてありました。「町の者に断食と祈りを命じなさい。それからナボテを呼び、 10 二人のならず者に、『ナボテは神と王とをのろった』と証言させるのです。そのうえで、ナボテを外に引き出して石打ちにしなさい。」
11 そこで、町の長老たちは王妃の指図どおりに動きました。 12 町の住民を呼び出し、ナボテを裁判にかけたのです。 13 そこへ、良心のかけらもない二人のならず者が来て、ナボテが神と王とをのろったと証言しました。こうして、ナボテは町の外に引き出され、石を投げつけられて殺されてしまったのです。 14 ナボテが死んだことは、すぐ王妃に報告されました。
15 イゼベルは知らせを聞くと、王に言いました。「ナボテが売るのをしぶっていたぶどう畑のことを、覚えていらっしゃいますね。さあ今、それを手に入れることができますよ。ナボテが死んだのです！」 16 王は、ぶどう畑を自分のものにするために出かけました。
17 その時、主はエリヤに言われました。 18 「アハブ王に会いにサマリヤへ行きなさい。今、王はナボテのぶどう畑を自分のものにしようと、近くまで来ている。 19 彼にわたしのことばを伝えなさい。『ナボテを殺しただけではまだ足りず、彼の畑まで奪い取ろうというのか。そんな大それたことをしたので、ナボテのときと同じように、町の外で犬があなたの血をなめるようになる。』」
20 アハブに会いに来たエリヤを見て、王は、「また悪い敵に見つかってしまった」と言いました。エリヤは答えました。「王が悪魔に身を売り渡したので、主ののろいを下すために出て来たのだ。 21 主は王に大きな災いを下し、一族を一掃しようとしておられる。王の子孫である男子は、一人も生き残れない。 22 ヤロブアム王家やバシャ王家のように滅ぼされるからだ。王が主の激しい怒りを買い、イスラエルに罪を犯させた報いだ。 23 主はまた、イゼベル王妃についても、『イズレエルの犬がイゼベルの死体を引き裂く』と言われた。 24 王の家の者たちのうち、町の中で死ぬ者は犬に食われ、野で死ぬ者ははげたかの餌食になる。」
25 アハブのように悪魔の言いなりになった者は、ほかに一人もいませんでした。妻のイゼベルが王をそそのかして、あらゆる悪事に走らせたからです。 26 王が犯した最大の罪は、主がこの地から追い出したエモリ人にならって、多くの偶像を礼拝したことです。
27 王はエリヤのことばを聞くと、上着を引き裂き、ぼろをまとい、断食をし、荒布の上に伏して、打ちひしがれていました。 28 その時、エリヤはまた主から別のことばを聞きました。 29 「アハブがわたしの前にへりくだっているのを見たか。あんなにまでしているので、王が生きている間、私の誓ったことは実行しないことにする。息子の代にそれらのことが起こって、彼の子孫はみな滅びる。」

Naboth’s Vineyard
21 Some time later there was an incident involving a vineyard belonging to Naboth(A) the Jezreelite. The vineyard was in Jezreel,(B) close to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. 2 Ahab said to Naboth, “Let me have your vineyard to use for a vegetable garden, since it is close to my palace. In exchange I will give you a better vineyard or, if you prefer, I will pay you whatever it is worth.”
3 But Naboth replied, “The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance(C) of my ancestors.”
4 So Ahab went home, sullen and angry(D) because Naboth the Jezreelite had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my ancestors.” He lay on his bed sulking and refused(E) to eat.
5 His wife Jezebel came in and asked him, “Why are you so sullen? Why won’t you eat?”
6 He answered her, “Because I said to Naboth the Jezreelite, ‘Sell me your vineyard; or if you prefer, I will give you another vineyard in its place.’ But he said, ‘I will not give you my vineyard.’”
7 Jezebel his wife said, “Is this how you act as king over Israel? Get up and eat! Cheer up. I’ll get you the vineyard(F) of Naboth the Jezreelite.”
8 So she wrote letters(G) in Ahab’s name, placed his seal(H) on them, and sent them to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city with him. 9 In those letters she wrote:
“Proclaim a day of fasting and seat Naboth in a prominent place among the people. 10 But seat two scoundrels(I) opposite him and have them bring charges that he has cursed(J) both God and the king. Then take him out and stone him to death.”
11 So the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city did as Jezebel directed in the letters she had written to them. 12 They proclaimed a fast(K) and seated Naboth in a prominent place among the people. 13 Then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying, “Naboth has cursed both God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.(L) 14 Then they sent word to Jezebel: “Naboth has been stoned to death.”
15 As soon as Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, “Get up and take possession of the vineyard(M) of Naboth the Jezreelite that he refused to sell you. He is no longer alive, but dead.” 16 When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up and went down to take possession of Naboth’s vineyard.
17 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite: 18 “Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who rules in Samaria. He is now in Naboth’s vineyard, where he has gone to take possession of it. 19 Say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?’(N) Then say to him, ‘This is what the Lord says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth’s blood,(O) dogs(P) will lick up your blood—yes, yours!’”
20 Ahab said to Elijah, “So you have found me, my enemy!”(Q)
“I have found you,” he answered, “because you have sold(R) yourself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord. 21 He says, ‘I am going to bring disaster on you. I will wipe out your descendants and cut off from Ahab every last male(S) in Israel—slave or free.[a](T) 22 I will make your house(U) like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat and that of Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have aroused my anger and have caused Israel to sin.’(V)
23 “And also concerning Jezebel the Lord says: ‘Dogs(W) will devour Jezebel by the wall of[b] Jezreel.’
24 “Dogs(X) will eat those belonging to Ahab who die in the city, and the birds(Y) will feed on those who die in the country.”
25 (There was never(Z) anyone like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel his wife. 26 He behaved in the vilest manner by going after idols, like the Amorites(AA) the Lord drove out before Israel.)
27 When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth(AB) and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly.(AC)
28 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite: 29 “Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled(AD) himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day,(AE) but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”(AF)

ユダの王ヨシャパテ

Jehoshaphat King of Judah
17 Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king and strengthened(A) himself against Israel. 2 He stationed troops in all the fortified cities(B) of Judah and put garrisons in Judah and in the towns of Ephraim that his father Asa had captured.(C)
3 The Lord was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the ways of his father David(D) before him. He did not consult the Baals 4 but sought(E) the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel. 5 The Lord established the kingdom under his control; and all Judah brought gifts(F) to Jehoshaphat, so that he had great wealth and honor.(G) 6 His heart was devoted(H) to the ways of the Lord; furthermore, he removed the high places(I) and the Asherah poles(J) from Judah.(K)
7 In the third year of his reign he sent his officials Ben-Hail, Obadiah, Zechariah, Nethanel and Micaiah to teach(L) in the towns of Judah. 8 With them were certain Levites(M)—Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah and Tob-Adonijah—and the priests Elishama and Jehoram. 9 They taught throughout Judah, taking with them the Book of the Law(N) of the Lord; they went around to all the towns of Judah and taught the people.
10 The fear(O) of the Lord fell on all the kingdoms of the lands surrounding Judah, so that they did not go to war against Jehoshaphat. 11 Some Philistines brought Jehoshaphat gifts and silver as tribute, and the Arabs(P) brought him flocks:(Q) seven thousand seven hundred rams and seven thousand seven hundred goats.
12 Jehoshaphat became more and more powerful; he built forts and store cities in Judah 13 and had large supplies in the towns of Judah. He also kept experienced fighting men in Jerusalem. 14 Their enrollment(R) by families was as follows:
From Judah, commanders of units of 1,000:
Adnah the commander, with 300,000 fighting men;
15 next, Jehohanan the commander, with 280,000;
16 next, Amasiah son of Zikri, who volunteered(S) himself for the service of the Lord, with 200,000.
17 From Benjamin:(T)
Eliada, a valiant soldier, with 200,000 men armed with bows and shields;
18 next, Jehozabad, with 180,000 men armed for battle.
19 These were the men who served the king, besides those he stationed in the fortified cities(U) throughout Judah.(V)

5 ですから、罪深い肉欲を捨てなさい。性的な罪、汚れ、情欲、恥ずべき欲望などと縁を切りなさい。この世の富や快楽を慕い求めてはいけません。それは、神でないものを神とする、偶像礼拝だからです。 6 そんなことをする人に、神の恐ろしい怒りは下るのです。 7 あなたがたも、この世の人間として生きていた時には、そんなことをしていました。 8 けれども今は、怒り、憎しみ、ののしり、口ぎたない悪口などの、汚れた服をみな脱ぎ捨てる時なのです。 9 だまし合いはやめなさい。うそは、あらゆる悪にまみれた古いいのちの特徴でした。しかしすでに、その古いいのちは死んだのです。 10 あなたがたは新しいいのちに生きています。正しいことへの探究心を強め、ますます、この新しいいのちを与えてくださったキリストに似る者となるよう努めましょう。 11 そこでは、国籍、人種、教育、社会的地位の違いなどは全く問題ではありません。大切なのは、キリストをしっかりつかんでいるかどうかです。そして、キリストを自分のものにする機会は、だれにも平等に与えられているのです。
12 神に選ばれて愛され、聖なる新しいいのちを与えられたあなたがたは、他の人々に対して情け深く、やさしく親切でなければなりません。謙遜で、どんな時にも、おだやかに忍耐強く行動してほしいものです。 13 互いに耐え、赦し合いなさい。主があなたがたを赦してくださったのですから、あなたがたも、人を赦すべきではありませんか。 14 何よりも大切なのは、愛をもって仕え合うことです。そうすれば、教会全体が深く結びつき、麗しい調和が与えられます。 15 キリストにある平和が、いつもあなたがたの心と生活を満たすようにしなさい。そうすることが、キリストの体の一部とされたあなたがたの責任であり、特権でもあるからです。また、いつも感謝していなさい。 16 キリストの教えを心にとめ、そのことばによって、人生が豊かに潤されるようにしなさい。知恵を尽くして、そのことばを互いに教え合い、忠告し合い、感謝にあふれて心から神に向かって賛美しなさい。 17 何をするにも、何を語るにも、主イエスの代理人として行動し、主イエスと共に、父なる神の前に出て、心から感謝しなさい。
良い人間関係を保ちなさい
18 妻は夫に従いなさい。それは、主が人々のためにお定めになったことだからです。 19 夫は妻を愛し、いたわりなさい。つらく当たったり、邪険な態度をとったりしてはいけません。 20 子どもはどんな時でも両親に従いなさい。それは、主に喜ばれることだからです。 21 父親は、子どもがいらだつほどしかってはなりません。 22 奴隷はいつも地上での主人に従いなさい。気に入られようとして、主人が見ている時だけ一生懸命に働くのではなく、陰日向なく仕えなさい。主を愛しているのですから、主に喜んでいただけるよう、真心から主人に従いなさい。 23 人に対してではなく、主に対してするように、何事においても心からしなさい。 24 報酬を下さるのは主キリストであることを忘れてはなりません。キリストは、所有しておられるものの中から、有り余るほどの相続財産を与えてくださいます。あなたがたは、この主キリストに仕えているのです。 25 主のために最善を尽くさない者は、その報いを受けます。主は不誠実な者を、大目に見たりはなさらないからです。

3 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ,(A) set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.(B) 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.(C) 3 For you died,(D) and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your[a] life,(E) appears,(F) then you also will appear with him in glory.(G)
5 Put to death,(H) therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature:(I) sexual immorality,(J) impurity, lust, evil desires and greed,(K) which is idolatry.(L) 6 Because of these, the wrath of God(M) is coming.[b] 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.(N) 8 But now you must also rid yourselves(O) of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander,(P) and filthy language from your lips.(Q) 9 Do not lie to each other,(R) since you have taken off your old self(S) with its practices 10 and have put on the new self,(T) which is being renewed(U) in knowledge in the image of its Creator.(V) 11 Here there is no Gentile or Jew,(W) circumcised or uncircumcised,(X) barbarian, Scythian, slave or free,(Y) but Christ is all,(Z) and is in all.
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves(AA) with compassion, kindness, humility,(AB) gentleness and patience.(AC) 13 Bear with each other(AD) and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.(AE) 14 And over all these virtues put on love,(AF) which binds them all together in perfect unity.(AG)
15 Let the peace of Christ(AH) rule in your hearts, since as members of one body(AI) you were called to peace.(AJ) And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ(AK) dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom(AL) through psalms,(AM) hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.(AN) 17 And whatever you do,(AO) whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks(AP) to God the Father through him.

18 Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands,(AR) as is fitting in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
21 Fathers,[c] do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance(AS) from the Lord as a reward.(AT) It is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favoritism.(AU)
