Ezekiel 40:38-43:27
Holman Christian Standard Bible
Rooms for Preparing Sacrifices
38 There was a chamber whose door opened into the portico of the gate.[a] The burnt offering was to be washed there.(A) 39 Inside the portico of the gate there were two tables on each side, on which to slaughter the burnt offering, sin offering,(B) and restitution offering.(C) 40 Outside, as one approaches the entrance of the north gate, there were two tables on one side and two more tables on the other side of the gate’s portico. 41 So there were four tables inside the gate and four outside, eight tables in all on which the slaughtering was to be done. 42 There were also four tables of cut stone for the burnt offering,(D) each 31½ inches[b] long, 31½ inches wide, and 21 inches[c] high. The utensils used to slaughter the burnt offerings and other sacrifices were placed on them. 43 There were three-inch[d] hooks[e] fastened all around the inside of the room, and the flesh of the offering was to be laid on the tables.
Rooms for Singers and Priests
44 Outside the inner gate, within the inner court, there were chambers for the singers:[f](E) one[g] beside the north gate, facing south, and another beside the south[h] gate, facing north. 45 Then the man said to me: “This chamber that faces south is for the priests who keep charge of the temple.(F) 46 The chamber that faces north is for the priests who keep charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok,(G) the ones from the sons of Levi who may approach the Lord to serve Him.”(H) 47 Next he measured the court. It was square, 175 feet[i] long and 175 feet wide. The altar(I) was in front of the temple.
48 Then he brought me to the portico of the temple and measured the pilasters of the portico; they were 8¾ feet[j] thick on each side. The width of the gateway was 24½ feet,[k] and the side walls of the gate were[l] 5¼ feet[m] wide on each side. 49 The portico was 35 feet[n] across and 21[o] feet[p] deep, and 10 steps led[q] up to it.(J) There were pillars by the pilasters, one on each side.(K)
Inside the Temple
41 Next he brought me into the great hall and measured the pilasters;(L) on each side the width of the pilaster was 10½ feet.[r][s] 2 The width of the entrance was 17½ feet,[t] and the side walls of the entrance were 8¾ feet[u] wide on each side. He also measured the length of the great hall, 70 feet,[v] and the width, 35 feet.[w](M) 3 He went inside the next room and measured the pilasters at the entrance;(N) they were 3½ feet[x] wide. The entrance was 10½ feet[y] wide, and the width of the entrance’s side walls on each side[z] was 12¼ feet.[aa] 4 He then measured the length of the room adjacent to the great hall, 35 feet,[ab] and the width, 35 feet.(O) And he said to me, “This is the most holy place.”(P)
Outside the Temple
5 Then he measured the wall of the temple; it was 10½ feet[ac] thick. The width of the side rooms all around the temple was seven feet.[ad](Q) 6 The side rooms were arranged one above another in three stories of 30 rooms each.[ae] There were ledges on the wall of the temple all around to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports would not be in the temple wall itself.(R) 7 The side rooms surrounding the temple widened at each successive story, for the structure surrounding the temple went up by stages. This was the reason for the temple’s broadness as it rose. And so, one would go up from the lowest story to the highest by means of the middle one.[af](S)
8 I saw that the temple had a raised platform surrounding it; this foundation for the side rooms was 10½ feet high.[ag](T) 9 The thickness of the outer wall of the side rooms was 8¾ feet.[ah] The free space between the side rooms of the temple 10 and the outer chambers was 35 feet[ai] wide all around the temple.(U) 11 The side rooms opened into the free space, one entrance toward the north and another to the south. The area of free space was 8¾ feet[aj] wide all around.
12 Now the building that faced the temple yard toward the west was 122½ feet[ak] wide. The wall of the building was 8¾ feet[al] thick on all sides, and the building’s length was 157½ feet.[am]
13 Then the man measured the temple; it was 175 feet[an] long.(V) In addition, the temple yard and the building, including its walls, were 175 feet long. 14 The width of the front of the temple along with the temple yard to the east was 175 feet. 15 Next he measured the length of the building facing the temple yard to the west, with its galleries[ao] on each side;(W) it was 175 feet.
Interior Wooden Structures
The interior of the great hall and the porticoes of the court— 16 the thresholds, the beveled windows,(X) and the balconies all around with their three levels opposite the threshold—were overlaid with wood on all sides.(Y) They were paneled from the ground to the windows (but the windows were covered), 17 reaching to the top of the entrance, and as far as the inner temple and on the outside. On every wall all around, on the inside and outside, was a pattern 18 carved with cherubim and palm trees.(Z) There was a palm tree between each pair of cherubim.(AA) Each cherub had two faces: 19 a human face turned toward the palm tree on one side,(AB) and a lion’s face turned toward it on the other. They were carved throughout the temple on all sides. 20 Cherubim and palm trees were carved from the ground to the top of the entrance and on the wall of the great hall.
21 The doorposts of the great hall were square,(AC) and the front of the sanctuary had the same appearance. 22 The altar was[ap] made of wood, 5¼ feet[aq] high and 3½ feet[ar] long.[as] It had corners, and its length[at] and sides were of wood.(AD) The man told me, “This is the table that stands before the Lord.”(AE)
23 The great hall and the sanctuary each had a double door,(AF) 24 and each of the doors had two swinging panels.(AG) There were two panels for one door and two for the other. 25 Cherubim and palm trees were carved on the doors of the great hall like those carved on the walls. There was a wooden canopy[au](AH) outside, in front of the portico. 26 There were beveled windows and palm trees on both sides,(AI) on the side walls of the portico, the side rooms of the temple, and the canopies.[av]
The Priests’ Chambers
42 Then the man led me out by way of the north gate into the outer court.(AJ) He brought me to the group of chambers opposite the temple yard and opposite the building(AK) to the north. 2 Along the length of the chambers, which was 175 feet,[aw](AL) there was an entrance on the north; the width was 87½ feet.[ax] 3 Opposite the 35 foot space[ay] belonging to the inner court and opposite the paved surface(AM) belonging to the outer court, the structure rose gallery by gallery(AN) in three tiers. 4 In front of the chambers was a walkway toward the inside,(AO) 17½ feet[az] wide and 175 feet[ba] long,[bb] and their entrances were on the north. 5 The upper chambers were narrower because the galleries took away more space from them than from the lower and middle stories of the building. 6 For they were arranged in three stories and had no pillars like the pillars of the courts;(AP) therefore the upper chambers were set back from the ground more than the lower and middle stories. 7 A wall on the outside ran in front of the chambers, parallel to them, toward the outer court; it was 87½ feet[bc] long. 8 For the chambers on the outer court were 87½ feet long, while those facing the great hall were 175 feet[bd] long.(AQ) 9 At the base of these chambers there was an entryway on the east side as one enters them from the outer court.(AR)
10 In the thickness of the wall of the court toward the south,[be] there were chambers facing the temple yard(AS) and the western building, 11 with a passageway in front of them, just like the chambers that faced north.(AT) Their length and width, as well as all their exits, measurements, and entrances, were identical. 12 The entrance at the beginning of the passageway, the way in front of the corresponding[bf] wall as one enters on the east side, was similar to the entrances of the chambers that were on the south side.
13 Then the man said to me, “The northern and southern chambers that face the temple yard are the holy chambers where the priests who approach the Lord will eat(AU) the most holy offerings.(AV) There they will deposit the most holy offerings—the grain offerings, sin offerings, and restitution offerings—for the place is holy.(AW) 14 Once the priests have entered, they must not go out from the holy area to the outer court until they have removed the clothes they minister in, for these are holy.(AX) They are to put on other clothes before they approach the public area.”(AY)
Outside Dimensions of the Temple Complex
15 When he finished measuring inside the temple complex, he led me out by way of the gate that faced east and measured all around the complex.(AZ)
16 He measured the east side with a measuring rod;
it was 875 feet[bg] by the measuring rod.[bh]
17 He[bi] measured the north side;
it was 875 feet[bj] by the measuring rod.[bk]
18 He[bl] measured the south side;
it was 875 feet[bm] by the measuring rod.[bn]
19 Then he turned to the west side
and measured 875 feet[bo] by the measuring rod.[bp]
20 He measured the temple complex on all four sides. It had a wall all around it,(BA) 875 feet long and 875 feet(BB) wide, to separate the holy from the common.(BC)
Return of the Lord’s Glory
43 He led me to the gate,(BD) the one that faces east, 2 and I saw the glory of the God of Israel(BE) coming from the east.(BF) His voice sounded like the roar of mighty waters,(BG) and the earth shone with His glory.(BH) 3 The vision I saw(BI) was like the one I had seen when He[bq] came to destroy the city,(BJ) and like the ones I had seen by the Chebar Canal.(BK) I fell facedown.(BL) 4 The glory of the Lord entered the temple by way of the gate that faced east.(BM) 5 Then the Spirit lifted me up(BN) and brought me to the inner court, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple.(BO)
6 While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from the temple.(BP) 7 He said to me: “Son of man, this is the place of My throne and the place for the soles of My feet,(BQ) where I will dwell among the Israelites forever.(BR) The house of Israel and their kings will no longer defile My holy name by their religious prostitution and by the corpses[br](BS) of their kings at their high places.[bs](BT) 8 Whenever they placed their threshold next to My threshold and their doorposts beside My doorposts, with only a wall between Me and them, they were defiling My holy name by the detestable acts they committed.(BU) So I destroyed them in My anger. 9 Now let them remove their prostitution and the corpses[bt](BV) of their kings far from Me, and I will dwell among them forever.(BW)
10 “As for you, son of man, describe the temple to the house of Israel,(BX) so that they may be ashamed of their iniquities.(BY) Let them measure its pattern,(BZ) 11 and they will be ashamed of all that they have done. Reveal[bu] the design of the temple to them—its layout with its exits and entrances(CA)—its complete design along with all its statutes, design specifications, and laws. Write it down in their sight(CB) so that they may observe its complete design and all its statutes and may carry them out.(CC) 12 This is the law of the temple: all its surrounding territory on top of the mountain(CD) will be especially holy. Yes, this is the law of the temple.
The Altar
13 “These are the measurements of the altar(CE) in units of length (each unit being the standard length plus three inches(CF)):[bv] the gutter is 21 inches[bw] deep and 21 inches wide, with a rim of nine inches[bx] around its edge. This is the base[by] of the altar. 14 The distance from the gutter on the ground to the lower ledge is 3½ feet,[bz] and the width of the ledge is 21 inches.[ca] There are seven feet[cb] from the small ledge to the large ledge, whose width is also 21 inches. 15 The altar hearth[cc] is seven feet[cd] high, and four horns(CG) project upward from the hearth. 16 The hearth is square, 21 feet[ce] long by 21 feet wide.(CH) 17 The ledge is 24½ feet[cf] long by 24½ feet wide, with four equal sides.(CI) The rim all around it is 10½ inches,[cg] and its gutter is 21 inches[ch] all around it. The altar’s steps face east.”(CJ)
18 Then He said to me: “Son of man,(CK) this is what the Lord God says: These are the statutes for the altar on the day it is constructed, so that burnt offerings(CL) may be sacrificed on it and blood may be sprinkled on it:(CM) 19 You are to give a bull from the herd(CN) as a sin offering(CO) to the Levitical priests who are from the offspring of Zadok,(CP) who approach Me in order to serve Me.”(CQ) This is the declaration of the Lord God. 20 “You must take some of its blood and apply it to the four horns(CR) of the altar, the four corners of the ledge, and all around the rim. In this way you will purify the altar and make atonement for it.(CS) 21 Then you must take away the bull for the sin offering, and it must be burned outside the sanctuary in the place appointed for the temple.(CT)
22 “On the second day you are to present an unblemished male goat as a sin offering. They will purify the altar just as they did with the bull. 23 When you have finished the purification, you are to present a young, unblemished bull(CU) and an unblemished ram from the flock.(CV) 24 You must present them before the Lord; the priests will throw salt on them and sacrifice them as a burnt offering to the Lord.(CW) 25 You will offer a goat for a sin offering each day for seven days.(CX) A young bull and a ram from the flock, both unblemished, must also be offered. 26 For seven days the priests are to make atonement for the altar and cleanse it. In this way they will consecrate it[ci] 27 and complete the days of purification. Then on the eighth day(CY) and afterward, the priests will offer your burnt offerings and fellowship offerings on the altar, and I will accept you.”(CZ) This is the declaration of the Lord God.

Ezekiel 40:38-43:27
New International Version
The Rooms for Preparing Sacrifices
38 A room with a doorway was by the portico in each of the inner gateways, where the burnt offerings(A) were washed. 39 In the portico of the gateway were two tables on each side, on which the burnt offerings,(B) sin offerings[a](C) and guilt offerings(D) were slaughtered.(E) 40 By the outside wall of the portico of the gateway, near the steps at the entrance of the north gateway were two tables, and on the other side of the steps were two tables. 41 So there were four tables on one side of the gateway and four on the other—eight tables in all—on which the sacrifices were slaughtered. 42 There were also four tables of dressed stone(F) for the burnt offerings, each a cubit and a half long, a cubit and a half wide and a cubit high.[b] On them were placed the utensils for slaughtering the burnt offerings and the other sacrifices.(G) 43 And double-pronged hooks, each a handbreadth[c] long, were attached to the wall all around. The tables were for the flesh of the offerings.
The Rooms for the Priests
44 Outside the inner gate, within the inner court, were two rooms, one[d] at the side of the north gate and facing south, and another at the side of the south[e] gate and facing north. 45 He said to me, “The room facing south is for the priests who guard the temple,(H) 46 and the room facing north(I) is for the priests who guard the altar.(J) These are the sons of Zadok,(K) who are the only Levites who may draw near to the Lord to minister before him.(L)”
47 Then he measured the court: It was square—a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide. And the altar was in front of the temple.(M)
The New Temple
48 He brought me to the portico of the temple(N) and measured the jambs of the portico; they were five cubits wide on either side. The width of the entrance was fourteen cubits[f] and its projecting walls were[g] three cubits[h] wide on either side. 49 The portico(O) was twenty cubits[i] wide, and twelve[j] cubits[k] from front to back. It was reached by a flight of stairs,[l] and there were pillars(P) on each side of the jambs.
41 Then the man brought me to the main hall(Q) and measured the jambs; the width of the jambs was six cubits[m] on each side.[n] 2 The entrance was ten cubits[o] wide, and the projecting walls on each side of it were five cubits[p] wide. He also measured the main hall; it was forty cubits long and twenty cubits wide.[q](R)
3 Then he went into the inner sanctuary and measured the jambs of the entrance; each was two cubits[r] wide. The entrance was six cubits wide, and the projecting walls on each side of it were seven cubits[s] wide. 4 And he measured the length of the inner sanctuary; it was twenty cubits, and its width was twenty cubits across the end of the main hall.(S) He said to me, “This is the Most Holy Place.(T)”
5 Then he measured the wall of the temple; it was six cubits thick, and each side room around the temple was four cubits[t] wide. 6 The side rooms were on three levels, one above another, thirty(U) on each level. There were ledges all around the wall of the temple to serve as supports for the side rooms, so that the supports were not inserted into the wall of the temple.(V) 7 The side rooms all around the temple were wider at each successive level. The structure surrounding the temple was built in ascending stages, so that the rooms widened as one went upward. A stairway(W) went up from the lowest floor to the top floor through the middle floor.
8 I saw that the temple had a raised base all around it, forming the foundation of the side rooms. It was the length of the rod, six long cubits. 9 The outer wall of the side rooms was five cubits thick. The open area between the side rooms of the temple 10 and the priests’ rooms was twenty cubits wide all around the temple. 11 There were entrances to the side rooms from the open area, one on the north and another on the south; and the base adjoining the open area was five cubits wide all around.
12 The building facing the temple courtyard on the west side was seventy cubits[u] wide. The wall of the building was five cubits thick all around, and its length was ninety cubits.[v]
13 Then he measured the temple; it was a hundred cubits[w] long, and the temple courtyard and the building with its walls were also a hundred cubits long. 14 The width of the temple courtyard on the east, including the front of the temple, was a hundred cubits.(X)
15 Then he measured the length of the building facing the courtyard at the rear of the temple, including its galleries(Y) on each side; it was a hundred cubits.
The main hall, the inner sanctuary and the portico facing the court, 16 as well as the thresholds and the narrow windows(Z) and galleries around the three of them—everything beyond and including the threshold was covered with wood. The floor, the wall up to the windows, and the windows were covered.(AA) 17 In the space above the outside of the entrance to the inner sanctuary and on the walls at regular intervals all around the inner and outer sanctuary 18 were carved(AB) cherubim(AC) and palm trees.(AD) Palm trees alternated with cherubim. Each cherub had two faces:(AE) 19 the face of a human being toward the palm tree on one side and the face of a lion toward the palm tree on the other. They were carved all around the whole temple.(AF) 20 From the floor to the area above the entrance, cherubim and palm trees were carved on the wall of the main hall.
21 The main hall(AG) had a rectangular doorframe, and the one at the front of the Most Holy Place was similar. 22 There was a wooden altar(AH) three cubits[x] high and two cubits square[y]; its corners, its base[z] and its sides were of wood. The man said to me, “This is the table(AI) that is before the Lord.” 23 Both the main hall(AJ) and the Most Holy Place had double doors.(AK) 24 Each door had two leaves—two hinged leaves(AL) for each door. 25 And on the doors of the main hall were carved cherubim and palm trees like those carved on the walls, and there was a wooden overhang on the front of the portico. 26 On the sidewalls of the portico were narrow windows with palm trees carved on each side. The side rooms of the temple also had overhangs.(AM)
The Rooms for the Priests
42 Then the man led me northward into the outer court and brought me to the rooms(AN) opposite the temple courtyard(AO) and opposite the outer wall on the north side.(AP) 2 The building whose door faced north was a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide.[aa] 3 Both in the section twenty cubits[ab] from the inner court and in the section opposite the pavement of the outer court, gallery(AQ) faced gallery at the three levels.(AR) 4 In front of the rooms was an inner passageway ten cubits wide and a hundred cubits[ac] long.[ad] Their doors were on the north.(AS) 5 Now the upper rooms were narrower, for the galleries took more space from them than from the rooms on the lower and middle floors of the building. 6 The rooms on the top floor had no pillars, as the courts had; so they were smaller in floor space than those on the lower and middle floors. 7 There was an outer wall parallel to the rooms and the outer court; it extended in front of the rooms for fifty cubits. 8 While the row of rooms on the side next to the outer court was fifty cubits long, the row on the side nearest the sanctuary was a hundred cubits long. 9 The lower rooms had an entrance(AT) on the east side as one enters them from the outer court.
10 On the south side[ae] along the length of the wall of the outer court, adjoining the temple courtyard(AU) and opposite the outer wall, were rooms(AV) 11 with a passageway in front of them. These were like the rooms on the north; they had the same length and width, with similar exits and dimensions. Similar to the doorways on the north 12 were the doorways of the rooms on the south. There was a doorway at the beginning of the passageway that was parallel to the corresponding wall extending eastward, by which one enters the rooms.
13 Then he said to me, “The north(AW) and south rooms(AX) facing the temple courtyard(AY) are the priests’ rooms, where the priests who approach the Lord will eat the most holy offerings. There they will put the most holy offerings—the grain offerings,(AZ) the sin offerings[af](BA) and the guilt offerings(BB)—for the place is holy.(BC) 14 Once the priests enter the holy precincts, they are not to go into the outer court until they leave behind the garments(BD) in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they go near the places that are for the people.(BE)”
15 When he had finished measuring what was inside the temple area, he led me out by the east gate(BF) and measured the area all around: 16 He measured the east side with the measuring rod; it was five hundred cubits.[ag][ah] 17 He measured the north side; it was five hundred cubits[ai] by the measuring rod. 18 He measured the south side; it was five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. 19 Then he turned to the west side and measured; it was five hundred cubits by the measuring rod. 20 So he measured(BG) the area(BH) on all four sides. It had a wall around it,(BI) five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide,(BJ) to separate the holy from the common.(BK)
God’s Glory Returns to the Temple
43 Then the man brought me to the gate facing east,(BL) 2 and I saw the glory of the God of Israel coming from the east. His voice was like the roar of rushing waters,(BM) and the land was radiant with his glory.(BN) 3 The vision I saw was like the vision I had seen when he[aj] came to destroy the city and like the visions I had seen by the Kebar River, and I fell facedown. 4 The glory(BO) of the Lord entered the temple through the gate facing east.(BP) 5 Then the Spirit(BQ) lifted me up(BR) and brought me into the inner court, and the glory(BS) of the Lord filled the temple.(BT)
6 While the man was standing beside me, I heard someone speaking to me from inside the temple. 7 He said: “Son of man, this is the place of my throne(BU) and the place for the soles of my feet. This is where I will live among the Israelites forever. The people of Israel will never again defile(BV) my holy name—neither they nor their kings—by their prostitution and the funeral offerings[ak] for their kings at their death.[al](BW) 8 When they placed their threshold next to my threshold and their doorposts beside my doorposts, with only a wall between me and them, they defiled my holy name by their detestable practices. So I destroyed them in my anger. 9 Now let them put away from me their prostitution and the funeral offerings for their kings, and I will live among them forever.(BX)
10 “Son of man, describe the temple to the people of Israel, that they may be ashamed(BY) of their sins. Let them consider its perfection, 11 and if they are ashamed of all they have done, make known to them the design of the temple—its arrangement, its exits and entrances—its whole design and all its regulations[am] and laws. Write these down before them so that they may be faithful to its design and follow all its regulations.(BZ)
12 “This is the law of the temple: All the surrounding area(CA) on top of the mountain will be most holy.(CB) Such is the law of the temple.
The Great Altar Restored
13 “These are the measurements of the altar(CC) in long cubits,[an] that cubit being a cubit and a handbreadth: Its gutter is a cubit deep and a cubit wide, with a rim of one span[ao] around the edge. And this is the height of the altar: 14 From the gutter on the ground up to the lower ledge that goes around the altar it is two cubits high, and the ledge is a cubit wide.[ap] From this lower ledge to the upper ledge that goes around the altar it is four cubits high, and that ledge is also a cubit wide.[aq] 15 Above that, the altar hearth(CD) is four cubits high, and four horns(CE) project upward from the hearth. 16 The altar hearth is square, twelve cubits[ar] long and twelve cubits wide.(CF) 17 The upper ledge(CG) also is square, fourteen cubits[as] long and fourteen cubits wide. All around the altar is a gutter of one cubit with a rim of half a cubit.[at] The steps(CH) of the altar face east.(CI)”
18 Then he said to me, “Son of man, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: These will be the regulations for sacrificing burnt offerings(CJ) and splashing blood(CK) against the altar when it is built: 19 You are to give a young bull(CL) as a sin offering[au] to the Levitical priests of the family of Zadok,(CM) who come near(CN) to minister before me, declares the Sovereign Lord. 20 You are to take some of its blood and put it on the four horns of the altar(CO) and on the four corners of the upper ledge(CP) and all around the rim, and so purify the altar(CQ) and make atonement for it. 21 You are to take the bull for the sin offering and burn it in the designated part of the temple area outside the sanctuary.(CR)
22 “On the second day you are to offer a male goat without defect for a sin offering, and the altar is to be purified as it was purified with the bull. 23 When you have finished purifying it, you are to offer a young bull and a ram from the flock, both without defect.(CS) 24 You are to offer them before the Lord, and the priests are to sprinkle salt(CT) on them and sacrifice them as a burnt offering to the Lord.
25 “For seven days(CU) you are to provide a male goat daily for a sin offering; you are also to provide a young bull and a ram from the flock, both without defect.(CV) 26 For seven days they are to make atonement for the altar and cleanse it; thus they will dedicate it. 27 At the end of these days, from the eighth day(CW) on, the priests are to present your burnt offerings(CX) and fellowship offerings(CY) on the altar. Then I will accept you, declares the Sovereign Lord.”

Ezekiel 40:38-43:27
King James Version
38 And the chambers and the entries thereof were by the posts of the gates, where they washed the burnt offering.
39 And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slay thereon the burnt offering and the sin offering and the trespass offering.
40 And at the side without, as one goeth up to the entry of the north gate, were two tables; and on the other side, which was at the porch of the gate, were two tables.
41 Four tables were on this side, and four tables on that side, by the side of the gate; eight tables, whereupon they slew their sacrifices.
42 And the four tables were of hewn stone for the burnt offering, of a cubit and an half long, and a cubit and an half broad, and one cubit high: whereupon also they laid the instruments wherewith they slew the burnt offering and the sacrifice.
43 And within were hooks, an hand broad, fastened round about: and upon the tables was the flesh of the offering.
44 And without the inner gate were the chambers of the singers in the inner court, which was at the side of the north gate; and their prospect was toward the south: one at the side of the east gate having the prospect toward the north.
45 And he said unto me, This chamber, whose prospect is toward the south, is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the house.
46 And the chamber whose prospect is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar: these are the sons of Zadok among the sons of Levi, which come near to the Lord to minister unto him.
47 So he measured the court, an hundred cubits long, and an hundred cubits broad, foursquare; and the altar that was before the house.
48 And he brought me to the porch of the house, and measured each post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side: and the breadth of the gate was three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side.
49 The length of the porch was twenty cubits, and the breadth eleven cubits, and he brought me by the steps whereby they went up to it: and there were pillars by the posts, one on this side, and another on that side.
41 Afterward he brought me to the temple, and measured the posts, six cubits broad on the one side, and six cubits broad on the other side, which was the breadth of the tabernacle.
2 And the breadth of the door was ten cubits; and the sides of the door were five cubits on the one side, and five cubits on the other side: and he measured the length thereof, forty cubits: and the breadth, twenty cubits.
3 Then went he inward, and measured the post of the door, two cubits; and the door, six cubits; and the breadth of the door, seven cubits.
4 So he measured the length thereof, twenty cubits; and the breadth, twenty cubits, before the temple: and he said unto me, This is the most holy place.
5 After he measured the wall of the house, six cubits; and the breadth of every side chamber, four cubits, round about the house on every side.
6 And the side chambers were three, one over another, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which was of the house for the side chambers round about, that they might have hold, but they had not hold in the wall of the house.
7 And there was an enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side chambers: for the winding about of the house went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house was still upward, and so increased from the lowest chamber to the highest by the midst.
8 I saw also the height of the house round about: the foundations of the side chambers were a full reed of six great cubits.
9 The thickness of the wall, which was for the side chamber without, was five cubits: and that which was left was the place of the side chambers that were within.
10 And between the chambers was the wideness of twenty cubits round about the house on every side.
11 And the doors of the side chambers were toward the place that was left, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south: and the breadth of the place that was left was five cubits round about.
12 Now the building that was before the separate place at the end toward the west was seventy cubits broad; and the wall of the building was five cubits thick round about, and the length thereof ninety cubits.
13 So he measured the house, an hundred cubits long; and the separate place, and the building, with the walls thereof, an hundred cubits long;
14 Also the breadth of the face of the house, and of the separate place toward the east, an hundred cubits.
15 And he measured the length of the building over against the separate place which was behind it, and the galleries thereof on the one side and on the other side, an hundred cubits, with the inner temple, and the porches of the court;
16 The door posts, and the narrow windows, and the galleries round about on their three stories, over against the door, cieled with wood round about, and from the ground up to the windows, and the windows were covered;
17 To that above the door, even unto the inner house, and without, and by all the wall round about within and without, by measure.
18 And it was made with cherubims and palm trees, so that a palm tree was between a cherub and a cherub; and every cherub had two faces;
19 So that the face of a man was toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side: it was made through all the house round about.
20 From the ground unto above the door were cherubims and palm trees made, and on the wall of the temple.
21 The posts of the temple were squared, and the face of the sanctuary; the appearance of the one as the appearance of the other.
22 The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the Lord.
23 And the temple and the sanctuary had two doors.
24 And the doors had two leaves apiece, two turning leaves; two leaves for the one door, and two leaves for the other door.
25 And there were made on them, on the doors of the temple, cherubims and palm trees, like as were made upon the walls; and there were thick planks upon the face of the porch without.
26 And there were narrow windows and palm trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch, and upon the side chambers of the house, and thick planks.
42 Then he brought me forth into the utter court, the way toward the north: and he brought me into the chamber that was over against the separate place, and which was before the building toward the north.
2 Before the length of an hundred cubits was the north door, and the breadth was fifty cubits.
3 Over against the twenty cubits which were for the inner court, and over against the pavement which was for the utter court, was gallery against gallery in three stories.
4 And before the chambers was a walk to ten cubits breadth inward, a way of one cubit; and their doors toward the north.
5 Now the upper chambers were shorter: for the galleries were higher than these, than the lower, and than the middlemost of the building.
6 For they were in three stories, but had not pillars as the pillars of the courts: therefore the building was straitened more than the lowest and the middlemost from the ground.
7 And the wall that was without over against the chambers, toward the utter court on the forepart of the chambers, the length thereof was fifty cubits.
8 For the length of the chambers that were in the utter court was fifty cubits: and, lo, before the temple were an hundred cubits.
9 And from under these chambers was the entry on the east side, as one goeth into them from the utter court.
10 The chambers were in the thickness of the wall of the court toward the east, over against the separate place, and over against the building.
11 And the way before them was like the appearance of the chambers which were toward the north, as long as they, and as broad as they: and all their goings out were both according to their fashions, and according to their doors.
12 And according to the doors of the chambers that were toward the south was a door in the head of the way, even the way directly before the wall toward the east, as one entereth into them.
13 Then said he unto me, The north chambers and the south chambers, which are before the separate place, they be holy chambers, where the priests that approach unto the Lord shall eat the most holy things: there shall they lay the most holy things, and the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering; for the place is holy.
14 When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.
15 Now when he had made an end of measuring the inner house, he brought me forth toward the gate whose prospect is toward the east, and measured it round about.
16 He measured the east side with the measuring reed, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed round about.
17 He measured the north side, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed round about.
18 He measured the south side, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed.
19 He turned about to the west side, and measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed.
20 He measured it by the four sides: it had a wall round about, five hundred reeds long, and five hundred broad, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane place.
43 Afterward he brought me to the gate, even the gate that looketh toward the east:
2 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory.
3 And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face.
4 And the glory of the Lord came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east.
5 So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the Lord filled the house.
6 And I heard him speaking unto me out of the house; and the man stood by me.
7 And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places.
8 In their setting of their threshold by my thresholds, and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them, they have even defiled my holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger.
9 Now let them put away their whoredom, and the carcases of their kings, far from me, and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever.
10 Thou son of man, shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern.
11 And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them.
12 This is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house.
13 And these are the measures of the altar after the cubits: The cubit is a cubit and an hand breadth; even the bottom shall be a cubit, and the breadth a cubit, and the border thereof by the edge thereof round about shall be a span: and this shall be the higher place of the altar.
14 And from the bottom upon the ground even to the lower settle shall be two cubits, and the breadth one cubit; and from the lesser settle even to the greater settle shall be four cubits, and the breadth one cubit.
15 So the altar shall be four cubits; and from the altar and upward shall be four horns.
16 And the altar shall be twelve cubits long, twelve broad, square in the four squares thereof.
17 And the settle shall be fourteen cubits long and fourteen broad in the four squares thereof; and the border about it shall be half a cubit; and the bottom thereof shall be a cubit about; and his stairs shall look toward the east.
18 And he said unto me, Son of man, thus saith the Lord God; These are the ordinances of the altar in the day when they shall make it, to offer burnt offerings thereon, and to sprinkle blood thereon.
19 And thou shalt give to the priests the Levites that be of the seed of Zadok, which approach unto me, to minister unto me, saith the Lord God, a young bullock for a sin offering.
20 And thou shalt take of the blood thereof, and put it on the four horns of it, and on the four corners of the settle, and upon the border round about: thus shalt thou cleanse and purge it.
21 Thou shalt take the bullock also of the sin offering, and he shall burn it in the appointed place of the house, without the sanctuary.
22 And on the second day thou shalt offer a kid of the goats without blemish for a sin offering; and they shall cleanse the altar, as they did cleanse it with the bullock.
23 When thou hast made an end of cleansing it, thou shalt offer a young bullock without blemish, and a ram out of the flock without blemish.
24 And thou shalt offer them before the Lord, and the priests shall cast salt upon them, and they shall offer them up for a burnt offering unto the Lord.
25 Seven days shalt thou prepare every day a goat for a sin offering: they shall also prepare a young bullock, and a ram out of the flock, without blemish.
26 Seven days shall they purge the altar and purify it; and they shall consecrate themselves.
27 And when these days are expired, it shall be, that upon the eighth day, and so forward, the priests shall make your burnt offerings upon the altar, and your peace offerings; and I will accept you, saith the Lord God.
