The Two Witnesses
11 I was given a ·measuring stick [C a reed or cane used for measuring] like a ·rod [staff; walking stick], and I was told, ·Go [Get up] and measure the temple of God and the altar, ·and count [or including] the people worshiping there [C probably to show God’s control and protection of his people; Ezek. 40:3, 5]. 2 But do not measure the ·yard [courtyard] outside the temple. Leave it ·alone [out], because it has been given to ·those who are not God’s people [the Gentiles; the nations]. And they will trample on the holy city [C Jerusalem] for forty-two months [C a period of oppression—either literal or symbolic—equal to three and a half years; see Dan. 7:25; 12:7, 11–12]. 3 And I will ·give power to [or appoint; L give to] my two witnesses to prophesy for one thousand two hundred sixty days [C 42 months reckoned as 30 days each], ·and they will be dressed in rough cloth to show their sadness [L dressed in sackcloth; C mourning clothes].”
4 These two witnesses are the two olive trees and the two lampstands that stand before the Lord of the earth [C reminiscent of Zerubbabel and Joshua whom God used to build the second temple in spite of opposition; Zech. 4:2–6]. 5 And if anyone ·tries [wants] to ·hurt [harm; damage] them, fire comes from their mouths and ·kills [consumes; devours] their enemies [Jer. 5:14]. And if anyone ·tries [wants] to ·hurt [harm; damage] them in whatever way, in that same way that person ·will [or must] die. 6 These witnesses have the ·power [authority] to ·stop the sky [close the heavens] from raining during the time they are prophesying [1 Kin. 17:1]. And they have ·power [authority] to make the waters become blood [8:8; 16:3–4; Ex. 7:17–21], and they have ·power [authority] to send every kind of ·trouble [plague] to the earth as many times as they want.
7 When the two witnesses have finished ·telling their message [giving their witness/testimony], the beast [C probably the Antichrist; 13:1; 17:8; Dan. 7] that comes up from the ·bottomless pit [Abyss; 9:1] will fight a war against them. He will ·defeat [conquer] them and kill them. 8 The ·bodies [corpses] of the two witnesses will lie in the ·street [public square; C to be left unburied as a sign of disdain] of the great city where the Lord was ·killed [L crucified; C Jerusalem, perhaps here symbolic of the world’s opposition to God]. ·This city is named Sodom and Egypt, which has a spiritual meaning [L …which is figuratively/symbolically/spiritually called Sodom and Egypt; C Jerusalem is symbolically named after places judged by God for wickedness (Sodom) and for oppressing God’s people (Egypt); Gen. 19; Ex. 7—12]. 9 Those from every race of people, tribe, language, and nation will look at the bodies of the two witnesses for three and one-half days, and they will ·refuse to bury them [L not let them be placed in a tomb]. 10 People who live on the earth will rejoice and ·be happy [celebrate] because these two are dead. They will send each other gifts, because these two prophets brought much ·suffering [torment] to those who live on the earth.
11 But after [L the] three and one-half days, ·God put the breath of life into the two prophets again [L a breath/spirit of life from God entered them; Gen. 2:7]. They stood on their feet, and everyone who saw them became very afraid. 12 Then the two prophets heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Come up here!” And they went up into heaven in a cloud as their enemies watched.
13 In the same hour there was a ·great [violent] earthquake, and a tenth of the city ·was destroyed [collapsed; L fell]. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and those who did not die were very afraid and gave glory to the God of heaven [Ezek. 38:19–20; Zech. 14:4].
14 The second ·trouble [L woe] is finished. ·Pay attention [Look; T Behold]: The third ·trouble [L woe] is coming ·soon [quickly; 8:13].
The Seventh Trumpet
15 Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet. And there were loud voices in heaven, saying:
“·The power to rule the world now belongs to [or The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of] our Lord and his Christ [C Greek for Messiah or Anointed One],
and he will ·rule [reign] forever and ever [2 Sam. 7:16; Dan. 7:14, 18; Luke 1:32–33].”
16 Then the twenty-four elders [4:4], who sit on their thrones before God, ·bowed down [fell] on their faces and worshiped God. 17 They said:
“We give thanks to you, Lord God ·Almighty [All-powerful],
[the One] who is and [the One] who was [C in contrast with 1:4, 8; 4:8, this lacks the future reference, “who is coming,” because here God has commenced his future reign],
because you have ·used [or taken; or received] your great power
and have begun to rule!
18 The ·people of the world [nations; Gentiles] were angry [Ps. 2:1],
but your ·anger [wrath] has come.
The time has come to judge the dead [Dan. 12:2],
and to reward your servants the prophets
and your ·holy people [T saints],
·all who respect you [L those who fear your name], small and great.
The time has come to destroy those who destroy the earth!”
19 Then God’s temple in heaven was opened. The ·Ark that holds the agreement God gave to his people [L Ark of his Covenant] could be seen in his temple. Then there were flashes of lightning, ·noises, thunder [rumbling thunder], an earthquake, and a great hailstorm [C typical accompaniments to the arrival of God; 4:5].

11 Me fue dada una caña de medir (unos 3 metros) semejante a una vara(A), y alguien dijo(B): «Levántate y mide el templo[a] de Dios y el altar, y a los que en él adoran. 2 Pero excluye[b] el patio[c](C) que está fuera del templo[d], no lo midas, porque ha sido entregado a las naciones(D), y estas pisotearán(E) la ciudad santa(F) por cuarenta y dos meses(G).
3 »Otorgaré autoridad a mis dos testigos(H), y ellos profetizarán por 1,260 días(I), vestidos de cilicio[e](J)». 4 Estos son los dos olivos(K) y los dos candelabros que están delante del Señor de la tierra. 5 Si alguien quiere hacerles daño, de su boca sale fuego(L) y devora a sus enemigos. Así debe morir(M) cualquiera que quisiera hacerles daño. 6 Ellos tienen poder para cerrar el cielo(N) a fin de que no llueva durante los días en que ellos profeticen[f](O); y tienen poder sobre las aguas para convertirlas en sangre(P), y para herir la tierra con toda suerte de plagas todas las veces que quieran(Q).
7 Cuando hayan terminado de dar su testimonio, la bestia(R) que sube(S) del abismo(T) hará guerra contra ellos(U), los vencerá y los matará. 8 Sus cadáveres estarán[g] en la calle de la gran ciudad(V), que simbólicamente[h] se llama Sodoma(W) y Egipto(X), donde también su Señor fue crucificado. 9 Gente de todos los pueblos, tribus, lenguas, y naciones(Y), contemplarán[i] sus cadáveres[j] por tres días y medio, y no permitirán[k] que sus cadáveres sean sepultados(Z). 10 Los que moran en la tierra(AA) se regocijarán[l] por[m] ellos y se alegrarán[n], y se enviarán regalos unos a otros(AB), porque estos dos profetas habían atormentado a los que moran en la tierra(AC).
11 Pero después de los tres días y medio, el aliento de vida de parte de Dios vino a ellos(AD) y se pusieron en pie, y gran temor cayó sobre quienes los contemplaban. 12 Entonces ellos oyeron una gran voz del cielo que les decía: «Suban acá(AE)». Y subieron al cielo en la nube(AF), y sus enemigos los vieron.
13 En aquella misma hora hubo un gran terremoto(AG) y la décima parte de la ciudad se derrumbó, y siete mil personas[o] murieron en el terremoto, y los demás, aterrorizados, dieron gloria(AH) al Dios del cielo(AI).
14 El segundo ¡ay! ha pasado(AJ); pero el tercer ¡ay! viene pronto.
La séptima trompeta
15 El séptimo ángel tocó la trompeta(AK), y hubo[p] grandes voces en el cielo(AL), que decían:
«El reino del mundo ha venido a ser el reino de nuestro Señor(AM) y de Su Cristo[q](AN). Él reinará por los siglos de los siglos(AO)». 16 Y los veinticuatro ancianos que estaban sentados delante de Dios en sus tronos(AP), se postraron sobre sus rostros y adoraron a Dios(AQ), 17 diciendo:
«Te damos gracias, oh Señor Dios Todopoderoso(AR), el que eres y el que eras[r], porque has tomado Tu gran poder y has comenzado a reinar[s](AS). 18 Las naciones(AT) se enfurecieron, y vino Tu ira y llegó el tiempo de juzgar a los muertos(AU) y de dar la recompensa a Tus siervos los profetas(AV), a los santos y a los que temen Tu nombre, a los pequeños y a los grandes(AW), y de destruir a los que destruyen la tierra».
19 El templo[t] de Dios(AX) que está en el cielo fue abierto; y el arca de Su pacto(AY) se veía[u] en Su templo[v], y hubo relámpagos(AZ), voces[w] y truenos, y un terremoto y una fuerte granizada[x](BA).

11 And a measuring rod like a staff was given to me, saying, Come and measure the Beis Hamikdash of Hashem and the Mizbe’ach (altar) and the ones worshiping there. [YECHEZKEL 40:3]
2 But do not measure the outer court of the Beis Hamikdash; leave that out, and measure it not, for it was given over to the Goyim, and the Ir HaKodesh they will trample upon arba’im and shenayim chodashim. [YECHEZKEL 40:17,20; DANIEL 7:25; 12:7]
3 And I will give to my Sh’ney HaEdim (Two Witnesses) and they will speak divrei haNevu’ah (words of prophecy) one thousand two hundred and sixty days, having been clothed in sakkim (sackcloth). [BERESHIS 37:34; SHMUEL BAIS 3:31; NECHEMYAH 9:1]
4 These are the two olive trees and the two menorot standing before the Adon kol ha’aretz. [TEHILLIM 52:8; YIRMEYAH 11:16; ZECHARYAH 4:3,11,14]
5 And if anyone wants to harm them, eish (fire) comes out of their mouth and destroys their oyevim (enemies); and if anyone wants to harm them, it is necessary for him to be killed like this. [SHMUEL BAIS 22:9; MELACHIM BAIS 1:10; YIRMEYAH 5:14; BAMIDBAR 16:29,35]
6 These have the samchut (authority) to shut Shomayim, that no geshem (rain) may fall during the days of their nevu’ah (prophecy). And samchut (authority) they have over the waters to turn them into dahm and to strike ha’aretz with makkot (plagues) of every kind, as often as they want. [SHEMOT 7:17,19 [MELACHIM ALEF 17:1]
7 And when they complete the edut (testimony) of them, the Chayyah (Beast, Anti-Moshiach) coming up from the Tehom (Abyss) will make war with them and will conquer them and will kill them. [DANIEL 7:21]
8 And the NEVELAH (corpse, DEVARIM 21:23) of them will be on the rekhov (street) of the Ir Hagadol, which, spiritually, is called S’dom and Mitzrayim (Egypt), where also the Adon of them was pierced on the etz. [YESHAYAH 1:9; YIRMEYAH 13:14; YECHEZKEL 16:46]
9 And some of haummim (the peoples) and shevatim (tribes) and leshonot (languages) and Goyim (Nations) see the NEVELAH of them for shloshah and a half yamim and the NEVELAH of them they do not permit to be put into a kever (tomb). [TEHILLIM 79:2,3]
10 And the ones dwelling on ha’aretz (the earth) rejoice with great simcha (joy) over them and make merry and they will send matanot (gifts) to one another, because these two nevi’im (prophets) tormented the ones dwelling on ha’aretz (the earth). [Neh 8:10,12; Esth 9:19,22]
11 And after the shloshah (three) and a half yamim (days), a Ruach of Chayyim from Hashem entered into them, and they stood up upon their feet, and pachad gadol (great terror) fell upon the ones seeing them. [YECHEZKEL 37:5,9,10,14]
12 And they heard a kol gadol (loud voice) out of Shomayim saying to them, "Come up here!" And they went up into Shomayim in the anan (cloud), and their oyevim (enemies) saw them. [MELACHIM BAIS 2:11]
13 And in that hour occurred a great earthquake and the tenth part of the city fell and there were killed in the earthquake shivat alafim (seven thousand) , and the rest became afraid and gave kavod (glory) to Elohei HaShomayim.
14 The second woe passed. Hinei, the third woe is coming quickly.
15 And the malach hashevi’i (the seventh angel) sounded his shofar. And there were kolot gedolim (loud voices) in Shomayim, saying, "The Malchut of the Olam Hazeh became the Malchut of Adoneinu and of His Moshiach, and He will reign l’Olemei Olamim. [Ps 145:13; Dan 2:44; 7:14,27; Mic 4:7; Zech 14:9]
16 And the esrim v’arba’ah Zekenim (twenty-four Elders, SHEMOT 12:21), sitting on their kisot before Hashem, fell on their faces and worshiped Hashem,
17 Saying, "Modim Anachnu (We give thanks), Adonoi Elokeinu, El Shaddai, the One who is and the One who was, because you have taken your oz gadol (great power) and reigned. [TEHILLIM 30:12]
18 And the Goyim (Nations) raged. And your charon af (burning wrath) came, and the zman (time) for the Mesim to be judged and for giving the sachar (reward) to your avadim (servants), the nevi’im (prophets) and the Kadoshim and the ones fearing ha-Shem of you, the ketanim (small) and the gedolim (great), and for destroying the ones destroying ha’aretz (the earth). [TEHILLIM 2:1]
19 And the Heikhal of Hashem was opened in Shomayim, and the Aron HaBrit (Ark of the Covenant) of Hashem was seen in the Heikhal of Hashem. And there were flashes of lightning and kolot (sounds) and thunders and an earthquake and great barad (hail). [Ex 25:10 22; 2Ch 5:7]
