Oh, That My People Would Listen to Me
To the choirmaster: according to (A)The Gittith.[a] Of (B)Asaph.
81 (C)Sing aloud to God our strength;
(D)shout for joy to the God of Jacob!
2 Raise a song; sound (E)the tambourine,
(F)the sweet lyre with (G)the harp.
3 Blow the trumpet at (H)the new moon,
at the full moon, on our feast day.
4 For it is a statute for Israel,
a rule[b] of the God of Jacob.
5 He made it (I)a decree in (J)Joseph
when he (K)went out over[c] the land of Egypt.
(L)I hear a language (M)I had not known:
6 “I (N)relieved your[d] shoulder of (O)the burden;
your hands were freed from the basket.
7 In distress you (P)called, and I delivered you;
I (Q)answered you in the secret place of thunder;
I (R)tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
8 (S)Hear, O my people, while I admonish you!
O Israel, if you would but listen to me!
9 There shall be no (T)strange god among you;
you shall not bow down to a (U)foreign god.
10 (V)I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.
(W)Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 “But my people did not listen to my voice;
Israel (X)would not submit to me.
12 So I (Y)gave them over to their (Z)stubborn hearts,
to follow their own (AA)counsels.
13 (AB)Oh, that my people would listen to me,
that Israel would (AC)walk in my ways!
14 I would soon subdue their enemies
and (AD)turn my hand against their foes.
15 Those who hate the Lord would (AE)cringe toward him,
and their fate would last forever.
16 But he would feed you[e] with (AF)the finest of the wheat,
and with (AG)honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

81 Magsiawit kayo ng malakas sa Dios na ating kalakasan: mangagkaingay kayo na may kagalakan sa Dios ni Jacob,
2 Magsiawit kayo at dalhin ninyo rito ang pandereta, ang masayang alpa sangpu ng salterio.
3 Magsihihip kayo ng pakakak sa bagong buwan, sa kabilugan ng buwan, sa ating dakilang kapistahan.
4 Sapagka't pinakapalatuntunan sa Israel, ayos ng Dios ni Jacob.
5 Kaniyang inilagay na pinakapatotoo sa Jose, nang siya'y lumabas na maglakbay sa lupain ng Egipto: na aking kinaringgan ng wika na di ko nauunawa.
6 Aking inihiwalay ang kaniyang balikat sa pasan: ang mga kamay niya'y napabitiw sa luwelang.
7 Ikaw ay tumawag sa kabagabagan, at iniligtas kita; sinagot kita sa lihim na dako ng kulog; sinubok kita sa tubig ng Meriba. (Selah)
8 Dinggin mo, Oh bayan ko, at ako'y sasaksi sa iyo: Oh Israel, kung ikaw ay makikinig sa akin!
9 Hindi magkakaroon ng ibang dios sa iyo; at hindi ka man sasamba sa anomang ibang dios.
10 Ako ang Panginoon mong Dios, na naglabas sa iyo mula sa lupain ng Egipto: bukhin mong maluwang ang iyong bibig, at aking pupunuin.
11 Nguni't hindi nakinig sa aking tinig ang bayan ko; at hindi ako sinunod ng Israel.
12 Sa gayo'y aking pinasunod sa pagmamatigas ng kanilang puso, upang sila'y makalakad sa kanilang sariling mga payo.
13 Oh kung ako'y didinggin ng aking bayan, kung ang Israel ay lalakad sa aking mga daan!
14 Aking pasusukuing madali ang kanilang mga kaaway, at ibabalik ko ang aking kamay laban sa kanilang mga kaaway.
15 Ang mga mapagtanim sa Panginoon ay magsisisuko sa kaniya: nguni't ang kanilang panahon ay mananatili kailan man,
16 Kaniya ring pakakanin sila ng katabaan ng trigo: at ng pulot na mula sa bato ay bubusugin kita.

81 Rejoice out loud to God, our strength!
Shout for joy to Jacob’s God!
2 Take up a song and strike the drum!
Sweet lyre along with harp!
3 Blow the horn on the new moon,
at the full moon, for our day of celebration!
4 Because this is the law for Israel;
this is a rule of Jacob’s God.
5 He made it a decree for Joseph
when he went out against the land of Egypt,
when I heard a language I did not yet know:
6 “I lifted the burden off your shoulders;
your hands are free of the brick basket!
7 In distress you cried out, so I rescued you.
I answered you in the secret of thunder.
I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah
8 Listen, my people, I’m warning you!
If only you would listen to me, Israel.
9 There must be no foreign god among you.
You must not bow down to any strange deity.
10 I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up from Egypt’s land.
Open your mouth wide—I will fill it up!
11 But my people wouldn’t listen to my voice.
Israel simply wasn’t agreeable toward me.
12 So I sent them off to follow their willful hearts;
they followed their own advice.
13 How I wish my people would listen to me!
How I wish Israel would walk in my ways!
14 Then I would subdue their enemies in a second;
I would turn my hand against their foes.
15 Those who hate the Lord would grovel before me,
and their doom would last forever!
16 But I would feed you with the finest wheat.
I would satisfy you with honey from the rock.”

1 Sing for joy to God our strength;
shout aloud to the God of Jacob!(A)
2 Begin the music, strike the timbrel,(B)
play the melodious harp(C) and lyre.(D)
3 Sound the ram’s horn(E) at the New Moon,(F)
and when the moon is full, on the day of our festival;
4 this is a decree for Israel,
an ordinance of the God of Jacob.(G)
5 When God went out against Egypt,(H)
he established it as a statute for Joseph.
I heard an unknown voice say:(I)
6 “I removed the burden(J) from their shoulders;(K)
their hands were set free from the basket.
7 In your distress you called(L) and I rescued you,
I answered(M) you out of a thundercloud;
I tested you at the waters of Meribah.[c](N)
8 Hear me, my people,(O) and I will warn you—
if you would only listen to me, Israel!
9 You shall have no foreign god(P) among you;
you shall not worship any god other than me.
10 I am the Lord your God,
who brought you up out of Egypt.(Q)
Open(R) wide your mouth and I will fill(S) it.
11 “But my people would not listen to me;
Israel would not submit to me.(T)
12 So I gave them over(U) to their stubborn hearts
to follow their own devices.
13 “If my people would only listen to me,(V)
if Israel would only follow my ways,
14 how quickly I would subdue(W) their enemies
and turn my hand against(X) their foes!
15 Those who hate the Lord would cringe(Y) before him,
and their punishment would last forever.
16 But you would be fed with the finest of wheat;(Z)
with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”
