Ascribe to the Lord Glory

A Psalm of David.

³⁹ And ^(A)we are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. ^(B)They put him to death by hanging him on a tree, ⁴⁰ but ^(C)God raised him on ^(D)the third day and made him to ^(E)appear, ^41 (F)not to all the people but to us who had been chosen by God as ^(G)witnesses, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. ⁴² And ^(H)he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify ^(I)that he is the one appointed by God to be judge ^(J)of the living and the dead. ^43 (K)To him ^(L)all the prophets bear witness that ^(M)everyone who believes in him receives ^(N)forgiveness of sins ^(O)through his name.”

The Tenth Plague: Death of the Firstborn

^29 (A)At midnight the ^(B)Lord struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, ^(C)from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock. ³⁰ And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians. And there was ^(D)a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where someone was not dead. ³¹ Then he summoned Moses and Aaron by night and said, “Up, go out from among my people, ^(E)both you and the people of Israel; and go, serve the Lord, as you have said. ^32 (F)Take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone, and bless me also!”

The Exodus

^33 (G)The Egyptians were urgent with the people to send them out of the land in haste. For they said, “We shall all be dead.” ³⁴ So the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading bowls being bound up in their cloaks on their shoulders. ³⁵ The people of Israel had also done as Moses told them, for they had ^(H)asked the Egyptians for silver and gold jewelry and for clothing. ^36 (I)And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that ^(J)they let them have what they asked. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.

³⁷ And the ^(K)people of Israel journeyed from ^(L)Rameses to Succoth, ^(M)about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. ³⁸ A ^(N)mixed multitude also went up with them, and very much livestock, both flocks and herds. ³⁹ And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough that they had brought out of Egypt, for it was not leavened, because ^(O)they were thrust out of Egypt and ^(P)could not wait, nor had they prepared any provisions for themselves.

⁴⁰ The time that the people of Israel lived in Egypt was 430 years. ⁴¹ At the end of ^(Q)430 years, on that very day, all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt.

The Parable of the Persistent Widow

18 And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought ^(A)always to pray and not ^(B)lose heart. ² He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who ^(C)neither feared God nor respected man. ³ And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ ⁴ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ^(D)‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man, ⁵ yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” ⁶ And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. ⁷ And ^(E)will not God give justice to ^(F)his elect, ^(G)who cry to him day and night? ^(H)(I)Will he delay long over them? ⁸ I tell you, he will give justice to them ^(J)speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, ^(K)will he find faith on earth?”
