犠牲を払ってでも知恵を得なさい
4 1-2 さあ、父親の話を聞くように、
私の言うことを聞きなさい。
知恵のある人になるために、
私が教える真理を勉強しなさい。
顔をそむけてはいけません。
3 私も若いころは、
母にはひとり息子としてかわいがられ、
父とはよく、いろいろなことを話し合ったものです。
4 そんな時、父は口ぐせのように、
こう言い聞かせてくれました。
「よく聞きなさい。
私のことばと教えを大切にすれば、
一生幸せに暮らせる。
5 何よりも、知恵と悟りのある人間になりなさい。
このことを決して忘れてはならない。」
6 知恵があなたを守ってくれます。
しっかり心に留め、大切にしなさい。
7 知恵のある人になるには、
まず賢くなろうと決心することです。
それが、物事を正しく判断する力と
知恵を養うのです。
8-9 知恵を高めれば、
あなたも高められます。
知恵を抱きしめると、
それはあなたに大きな誉れを与えます。
10 わが子よ。私の言うようにしなさい。
そうすれば長生きし、生涯幸せに過ごせます。
11 正しい生活をするのが、いちばん賢い生き方です。
この大切な真理を学びなさい。
12 そのように生きれば、もたつかないで歩み、
走ってもつまずきません。
13 私の訓戒を実行し、
忘れないようにしなさい。
それはあなたにいのちとなるからです。
14 悪者のまねをしてはいけません。
15 彼らの集まる場所に近寄らず、
そこを避けて通りなさい。
16 彼らは一日分の悪事を働かないと、
その夜はおちおち眠ることもできず、
人をつまずかせないうちは
ゆっくり休むこともできません。
17 悪いことをし、暴力をふるわないと
生きていられないのです。
18 神は正しい人の道を優しく見守り、
真昼のように明るく照らしてくださいます。
19 一方悪者は、暗がりでうろうろ手探りし、
あちこちでつまずくのです。
20 わが子よ。私のことばをよく聞きなさい。
21 それを肝に銘じ、忘れないようにしなさい。
22 そうすることがあなたのいのちとなり、
健やかにするのです。
23 何よりも、あなたの心を守りなさい。
心は生活全体に影響を与えるからです。
24 悪い女の慎みのない口づけをはねのけなさい。
悪い女に近づいてはいけません。
25 ただまっすぐ前を見つめ、
うしろを振り返らないことです。
26 足もとに気をつけ、
確実に進みなさい。
27 横道にそれてはいけません。
危険だとわかったら、一目散に引き返しなさい。
悪い女に気をつけなさい
5 わが子よ。私の言うことばを聞きなさい。
私に与えられている知恵を教えよう。
2 大切なことを
うっかり聞きもらさないようにしなさい。
3 悪い女は甘いことばと調子のいいお世辞が得意です。
4 それにのせられると、
あとで苦しまなければなりません。
鋭い剣で突き刺されたように、
良心がずきずき痛むのです。
5 苦しみもがけばもがくほど、
ずるずると地獄の底へ引きずり込まれます。
6 彼女は自分でも正しく生きる道を知りません。
不確かな道を、行き先も知らずに
よろよろ歩いているだけです。
7 子どもたちよ。私の言うことを聞きなさい。
しっかり心に刻み込むのです。
8 悪い女を遠ざけなさい。
彼女の家に近寄ってもいけません。
9 女の誘惑に負けて自分を台なしにし、
あなたの人生を
残忍で薄情な者に
与えることにならないためです。
10 せっかく築いた財産を、
見ず知らずの者に横取りされないためです。
11 体をむしばむ病に冒され、恥をかかないためです。
12 あとで悔やんでも、どうにもなりません。
「ああ、言われたとおりにしていたらよかった。
一時の欲望に負けなければ、
こんなことにならなかっただろうに。
13 ああ、どうして忠告も聞かず、
あんな愚かな行為をしたのだろう。
14 もう、だれにも会わせる顔がない。」
15 だから、自分自身の井戸から水を飲みなさい。
妻を裏切ってはいけません。
16 通りすがりの女に
子どもを
産ませてもいいのですか。
17 妻でもない女との間に、
子どもがあってもいいのですか。
18 あなたの源を祝福されたものとし、
若い時からの妻と喜び楽しみなさい。
19 優しく抱きしめてくれる妻に満足し、
愛されている幸せをかみしめなさい。
20 どうして悪い女にうつつを抜かし、
妻以外の女を抱くのですか。
21 神は何もかもご存じです。
あなたのなすことすべてに
目と心を配っているのですから。
22 悪者は、自分自身の罪で
自分の足をすくっているのです。
罪はその人を捕らえ、
逃れることができないようにする縄です。
23 その人が死ぬのは真理に背いたからです。
自分から愚かなことをした罰なのです。
愚かな者にならないように
6 わが子よ。見ず知らずの人の保証人になり、
借金の肩代わりをすることになったら、
それは深刻な問題です。
2 あなたは自分が承諾したことによって、
罠に陥ったのです。
3 もしそうなったら、すぐに手を打ちなさい。
プライドを捨て、恥をかくことを覚悟して
相手のところへ飛んで行き、
証書から名前を消してもらいなさい。
4 先に延ばさず、今すぐしなさい。
眠るのはそのあとにしなさい。
5 鹿が猟をする者の手を逃れ、
鳥が網から逃れるように、うまく逃れるのです。
6 怠け者よ、蟻を見ならいなさい。
蟻のやり方を見て学びなさい。
7 蟻には、働けと命じる支配者がいません。
8 それでも夏の間懸命に働き、冬の食糧を集めます。
9 ところが、あなたがたは眠ってばかりいます。
いったいいつ目を覚ますのですか。
10 「まだしばらく寝かせてほしい」と言っていますが、
その「ほんの少し」が問題なのです。
11 のんびり眠っている間に
泥棒のように貧しさが近づいてきて、
気がついたときには手遅れです。
12-13 悪者は、どうしようもない人間です。
彼らは平気でうそをつき、
仲間には目くばせや合図で企みを伝えます。
14 反抗心が人一倍強く、悪いことばかり考え、
いさかいを巻き起こすのです。
15 しかし、あっという間に身を滅ぼし、
倒れたら二度と立ち直れません。
16-19 神のきらいなものが六つ、いいえ七つあります。
高慢な態度、うそをつくこと、人殺し、
悪だくみ、悪事に熱中すること、
偽証、仲たがいの種をまくことです。
20 若者よ。親の言いつけを守りなさい。
21 一瞬たりとも忘れないように、
親の教えをしっかり心に刻み込みなさい。
22 昼も夜も彼らの助言に従えば、いつも安全です。
朝、目を覚ましたら、教えどおりに一日を始めなさい。
23 危険だとわかっていればこそ、
前もって忠告してくれるのです。
だから忠告を聞き、良き人生を送りなさい。
24 そうすれば、悪い女の甘いお世辞に
惑わされることもありません。
25 彼女の美しさに心を奪われてはなりません。
誘惑するような目つきにだまされてはいけません。
26 彼女におぼれると金を巻き上げられ、
人妻にうつつを抜かすと身を滅ぼすからです。
27 火をかかえ込めばやけどをし、
28 熱く燃える炭火の上を歩けば、やけどを負います。
29 同じように、人妻と汚らわしい関係を結ぶ者も
罰を免れません。
30 空腹のあまり盗みをしてしまったとしたら、
言い訳の余地があるかもしれません。
31 しかし、盗みは盗みです。
償いにたくさんの罰金を払わなければなりません。
持ち物を全部売り払ってでも、
支払わなければならないのです。
32 人妻と関係する者は愚かな者で、
自分で自分を滅ぼします。
33 身も心も傷つき、取り返しのつかない恥をかくのです。
34 嫉妬に狂った彼女の夫はあなたに復讐し
35 どんな償いをしても赦しません。

Get Wisdom at Any Cost
4 Listen, my sons,(A) to a father’s instruction;(B)
pay attention and gain understanding.(C)
2 I give you sound learning,
so do not forsake my teaching.
3 For I too was a son to my father,
still tender, and cherished by my mother.
4 Then he taught me, and he said to me,
“Take hold(D) of my words with all your heart;
keep my commands, and you will live.(E)
5 Get wisdom,(F) get understanding;
do not forget my words or turn away from them.
6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;(G)
love her, and she will watch over you.(H)
7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get[a] wisdom.
Though it cost all(I) you have,[b] get understanding.(J)
8 Cherish her, and she will exalt you;
embrace her, and she will honor you.(K)
9 She will give you a garland to grace your head
and present you with a glorious crown.(L)”
10 Listen, my son,(M) accept what I say,
and the years of your life will be many.(N)
11 I instruct(O) you in the way of wisdom
and lead you along straight paths.(P)
12 When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;
when you run, you will not stumble.(Q)
13 Hold on to instruction, do not let it go;
guard it well, for it is your life.(R)
14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked
or walk in the way of evildoers.(S)
15 Avoid it, do not travel on it;
turn from it and go on your way.
16 For they cannot rest until they do evil;(T)
they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.
17 They eat the bread of wickedness
and drink the wine of violence.(U)
18 The path of the righteous(V) is like the morning sun,(W)
shining ever brighter till the full light of day.(X)
19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;(Y)
they do not know what makes them stumble.(Z)
20 My son,(AA) pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.(AB)
21 Do not let them out of your sight,(AC)
keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.(AD)
23 Above all else, guard(AE) your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.(AF)
24 Keep your mouth free of perversity;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
25 Let your eyes(AG) look straight ahead;
fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Give careful thought to the[c] paths for your feet(AH)
and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left;(AI)
keep your foot from evil.
Warning Against Adultery
5 My son,(AJ) pay attention to my wisdom,
turn your ear to my words(AK) of insight,
2 that you may maintain discretion
and your lips may preserve knowledge.
3 For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey,
and her speech is smoother than oil;(AL)
4 but in the end she is bitter as gall,(AM)
sharp as a double-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death;
her steps lead straight to the grave.(AN)
6 She gives no thought to the way of life;
her paths wander aimlessly, but she does not know it.(AO)
7 Now then, my sons, listen(AP) to me;
do not turn aside from what I say.
8 Keep to a path far from her,(AQ)
do not go near the door of her house,
9 lest you lose your honor to others
and your dignity[d] to one who is cruel,
10 lest strangers feast on your wealth
and your toil enrich the house of another.(AR)
11 At the end of your life you will groan,
when your flesh and body are spent.
12 You will say, “How I hated discipline!
How my heart spurned correction!(AS)
13 I would not obey my teachers
or turn my ear to my instructors.
14 And I was soon in serious trouble(AT)
in the assembly of God’s people.”(AU)
15 Drink water from your own cistern,
running water from your own well.
16 Should your springs overflow in the streets,
your streams of water in the public squares?
17 Let them be yours alone,
never to be shared with strangers.
18 May your fountain(AV) be blessed,
and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.(AW)
19 A loving doe, a graceful deer(AX)—
may her breasts satisfy you always,
may you ever be intoxicated with her love.
20 Why, my son, be intoxicated with another man’s wife?
Why embrace the bosom of a wayward woman?
21 For your ways are in full view(AY) of the Lord,
and he examines(AZ) all your paths.(BA)
22 The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare them;(BB)
the cords of their sins hold them fast.(BC)
23 For lack of discipline they will die,(BD)
led astray by their own great folly.(BE)
Warnings Against Folly
6 My son,(BF) if you have put up security(BG) for your neighbor,(BH)
if you have shaken hands in pledge(BI) for a stranger,
2 you have been trapped by what you said,
ensnared by the words of your mouth.
3 So do this, my son, to free yourself,
since you have fallen into your neighbor’s hands:
Go—to the point of exhaustion—[e]
and give your neighbor no rest!
4 Allow no sleep to your eyes,
no slumber to your eyelids.(BJ)
5 Free yourself, like a gazelle(BK) from the hand of the hunter,(BL)
like a bird from the snare of the fowler.(BM)
6 Go to the ant, you sluggard;(BN)
consider its ways and be wise!
7 It has no commander,
no overseer or ruler,
8 yet it stores its provisions in summer(BO)
and gathers its food at harvest.(BP)
9 How long will you lie there, you sluggard?(BQ)
When will you get up from your sleep?
10 A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest(BR)—
11 and poverty(BS) will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man.
12 A troublemaker and a villain,
who goes about with a corrupt mouth,
13 who winks maliciously with his eye,(BT)
signals with his feet
and motions with his fingers,(BU)
14 who plots evil(BV) with deceit in his heart—
he always stirs up conflict.(BW)
15 Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant;(BX)
he will suddenly(BY) be destroyed—without remedy.(BZ)
16 There are six things the Lord hates,(CA)
seven that are detestable to him:
17 haughty eyes,(CB)
a lying tongue,(CC)
hands that shed innocent blood,(CD)
18 a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,(CE)
19 a false witness(CF) who pours out lies(CG)
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.(CH)
Warning Against Adultery
20 My son,(CI) keep your father’s command
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.(CJ)
21 Bind them always on your heart;
fasten them around your neck.(CK)
22 When you walk, they will guide you;
when you sleep, they will watch over you;
when you awake, they will speak to you.
23 For this command is a lamp,
this teaching is a light,(CL)
and correction and instruction
are the way to life,(CM)
24 keeping you from your neighbor’s wife,
from the smooth talk of a wayward woman.(CN)
25 Do not lust in your heart after her beauty
or let her captivate you with her eyes.
26 For a prostitute can be had for a loaf of bread,
but another man’s wife preys on your very life.(CO)
27 Can a man scoop fire into his lap
without his clothes being burned?
28 Can a man walk on hot coals
without his feet being scorched?
29 So is he who sleeps(CP) with another man’s wife;(CQ)
no one who touches her will go unpunished.
30 People do not despise a thief if he steals
to satisfy his hunger when he is starving.
31 Yet if he is caught, he must pay sevenfold,(CR)
though it costs him all the wealth of his house.
32 But a man who commits adultery(CS) has no sense;(CT)
whoever does so destroys himself.
33 Blows and disgrace are his lot,
and his shame will never(CU) be wiped away.

8 こういうわけで、今は、キリスト・イエスに属する人が罪の宣告を受けることはありません。 2 なぜなら、いのちを与える御霊の力が、罪と死の悪循環から解放してくれたからです。 3 律法を知っているだけでは、罪の支配からは救い出されません。私たちはそれを守ることもできないし、実際守ってもいないからです。ところが、神は私たちを救うために、別の計画を実行に移されました。すなわち、神のひとり子を、私たちと同じ体を持つ者として〔ただ、私たちのような罪の性質を持たない点では異なりますが〕世にお遣わしになったのです。そして彼を、私たちの罪のためのいけにえとして、私たちをがんじがらめにする罪の支配を打ち破られたのです。 4 ですから今、私たちは聖霊に従って歩むなら、律法に従うことができるのです。そしてもはや、古い罪の性質の言いなりになることはありません。 5 罪の性質に従っている人は自分を喜ばせようとしますが、聖霊に従って歩む人は、神に喜んでいただこうとします。 6 聖霊に従って歩むならいのちと平安があり、古い罪の性質に従って歩むなら死が待っています。 7 古い性質は神に敵対するからです。古い性質が律法に従ったことは一度もなかったし、これからも決してありません。 8 ですから、なおも古い自我に支配されて欲望に従い続ける者は、決して神をお喜ばせすることができないのです。
新しい性質を持って生きる
9 しかし、あなたがたはそうではありません。もし神の御霊があなたがたのうちに住んでおられるなら、新しい性質に支配されているのです。もしその人のうちにキリストの御霊が住んでおられないなら、その人はクリスチャンではありません。 10 もしキリストがうちに住んでおられるなら、古い自分は罪のために死んでも、キリストにあって新しい自分が生きるのです。 11 そして、もしイエスを復活させた神の御霊が、あなたがたのうちに住んでおられるなら、神はこの同じ御霊によって、あなたがたの滅ぶべき体をも生かしてくださるのです。
12 ですから、愛する皆さん。あなたがたの古い罪の性質がどんなことを要求しても、それに応じる必要は全くありません。 13 もし古い性質に従い続けるなら、道に迷い、やがて滅びるしかありません。しかし、もし御霊の力によってそれを打ち砕くなら、あなたがたは生きるのです。
14 神の御霊によって導かれる者はだれでも、神の子どもだからです。 15 ですから私たちは、奴隷のようにいつもびくびくする必要はありません。神の家族の中に子どもとしてあたたかく迎え入れられたのですから、実の子どもらしくふるまい、神を「お父さん」と呼べるのです。 16 というのは、御霊が私たちに、あなたがたはほんとうに神の子どもであると語ってくださるからです。 17 私たちは神の子どもですから、神の相続財産を受けるのです。神がひとり子イエスにお与えになったものは、今では私たちのものでもあるのです。私たちが神の子の栄光を共に受けるのなら、当然、その苦難をも共に受けなければなりません。
18 けれども、私たちがいま味わっている苦しみは、後に私たちが受ける栄光に比べたら、取るに足りないものです。 19 そして、神がお造りになったすべてのものが、神の子どもたちの復活を忍耐と希望をもって待ち望んでいます。 20-21 その日には、罪、死、腐敗など〔この世界は今、神の命令により、不本意ながらこれらのものに支配されていますが〕は跡形もなく消え去り、この世界は、神の子どもたちが喜びをもって味わうことができる、罪からの輝かしい解放にあずかるからです。 22 私たちは、自然界もこのすばらしい日を待ち望みながら、苦しみうめいていることを知っています。 23 そればかりか、私たちクリスチャンでさえ、御霊を自分のうちにいただいて、将来の栄光を先取りしているにもかかわらず、罪からの完全な解放を待ち望んでうめいています。その日には、神が約束してくださった新しい体、すなわち、もはや苦しみも死もない体をいただくのです。 24 私たちは、このように信じて待ち望むことで救われています。信じて待ち望むとは、今は持っていなくても、やがて与えられると確信して待つことです。すでに持っていると思う人は、神が与えてくださると期待したり、信じて待ち望んだりはしません。 25 しかし、まだ起こっていないことを待たなければならないのなら、忍耐をもって、確信して待ち望むのです。
26 御霊も同じようにして、弱い私たちを助けてくださいます。私たちは、何をどのように祈ったらよいかさえわからないのですが、御霊は、ことばに表せないほどの深い同情と理解をもって、とりなしてくださるのです。 27 すべての人の心を知っておられる父なる神は、御霊が私たちのために、神ご自身のお心にかなう願いをささげてくださる時、その願いの意図をもちろん知っておられます。
28 私たちは、神を愛し神のご計画のうちを歩んでいる人のためには、その身に起こることはすべて、神が益としてくださることを知っているのです。 29 というのは、神はあらかじめ、ご自分のもとに来る人を知っていて、そのような人々がご自分の御子と同じになるように、最初から定めておられたからです。それは、御子イエスを多くの主を信じる者たちの長子とするためでした。 30 神はあらかじめ選んだ人々を招き、そして彼らの罪を赦し、義（正しい者）と認められた人々には、さらに栄光を与えると約束してくださいました。
神が私たちの味方
31 こんなにすばらしい恵みに対して、いったい何と言ったらよいでしょう。神が味方なら、だれが私たちに敵対できるでしょうか。 32 神は私たちすべてのために、たった一人の御子さえ惜しまずに、死に渡されたほどのお方ですから、ほかのすべてのものをも下さらないわけがあるでしょうか。 33 神がご自分のものとして選ばれた私たちを訴えるのはだれですか。神ですか。とんでもない。神は私たちを赦し、義としてくださった方ではありませんか。 34 では、私たちを罪に定めるのはだれですか。キリストですか。とんでもない。キリストは私たちのために死に、復活し、今は神の右の座で、私たちのために祈っていてくださるお方ではありませんか。 35 では、いったいだれが、私たちをキリストの愛から引き離すことができるのでしょうか。災難や苦しみ、迫害ですか。飢えや貧乏、あるいは危険や剣ですか。 36 聖書にこう書いてあるとおりです。
「神のためには、いつでも
死ねる心がまえでいなければならない。
私たちは殺されるのを待つ羊のようだ。」（詩篇44・22）
37 しかし、こうした中にあっても私たちは、いのちを投げ出してまで私たちを愛してくださったキリストによって、圧倒的な罪からの勝利を得るのです。 38 神の愛から私たちを引き離すことができるものは何一つない、と確信しています。死もいのちも、そんなことはできません。天使にもできません。地獄の全勢力が結集しても、神の愛から私たちを遠ざけることはできません。恐れも、不安も同様です。 39 あるいは、私たちが空高くのぼっても、海の底深くもぐっても、どこにいようと、神の愛から私たちを引き離すことはできません。

Life Through the Spirit
8 Therefore, there is now no condemnation(A) for those who are in Christ Jesus,(B) 2 because through Christ Jesus(C) the law of the Spirit who gives life(D) has set you[a] free(E) from the law of sin(F) and death. 3 For what the law was powerless(G) to do because it was weakened by the flesh,[b](H) God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh(I) to be a sin offering.[c](J) And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement(K) of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.(L)
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires;(M) but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.(N) 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death,(O) but the mind governed by the Spirit is life(P) and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God;(Q) it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh(R) cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh(S) but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you.(T) And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ,(U) they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you,(V) then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life[d] because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead(W) is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies(X) because of[e] his Spirit who lives in you.
12 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it.(Y) 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die;(Z) but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body,(AA) you will live.(AB)
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God(AC) are the children of God.(AD) 15 The Spirit(AE) you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;(AF) rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[f] And by him we cry, “Abba,[g] Father.”(AG) 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit(AH) that we are God’s children.(AI) 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs(AJ)—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings(AK) in order that we may also share in his glory.(AL)
Present Suffering and Future Glory
18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.(AM) 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God(AN) to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it,(AO) in hope 21 that[h] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay(AP) and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.(AQ)
22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning(AR) as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit,(AS) groan(AT) inwardly as we wait eagerly(AU) for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.(AV) 24 For in this hope we were saved.(AW) But hope that is seen is no hope at all.(AX) Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.(AY)
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit(AZ) himself intercedes for us(BA) through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts(BB) knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes(BC) for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good(BD) of those who love him, who[i] have been called(BE) according to his purpose.(BF) 29 For those God foreknew(BG) he also predestined(BH) to be conformed to the image of his Son,(BI) that he might be the firstborn(BJ) among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined,(BK) he also called;(BL) those he called, he also justified;(BM) those he justified, he also glorified.(BN)
More Than Conquerors
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things?(BO) If God is for us,(BP) who can be against us?(BQ) 32 He who did not spare his own Son,(BR) but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge(BS) against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns?(BT) No one. Christ Jesus who died(BU)—more than that, who was raised to life(BV)—is at the right hand of God(BW) and is also interceding for us.(BX) 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?(BY) Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?(BZ) 36 As it is written:
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors(CB) through him who loved us.(CC) 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[k] neither the present nor the future,(CD) nor any powers,(CE) 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God(CF) that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.(CG)
