箴言の目的と主題
1 ダビデ王の子、イスラエルの王ソロモンの教え。
2-3 ソロモン王がこの教訓を書いたのは、
人々がどんな時にも物事を正しく判断し、
公正であってほしいと考えたからです。
4 「未熟な人たちが賢くなってほしい。」
「若い人が正しい生活を送るように注意したい。」
5-6 「賢い人には、
これらの知恵のことばの深い真理をもっと探究し、
より賢くなり、
人々を指導できるようになってほしい。」
それが彼の願いでした。
序文――知恵を求め、悪者には警戒しなさい
7-9 では、どうしたら賢く
なれるのでしょう。
まず主を信じ、主を大切にすることです。
愚かな人は主の教えをさげすみます。
両親の忠告に従いなさい。
そうすれば、あとになって
人々にほめられるようになります。
10 もし悪い仲間が、「われわれの仲間に入れ」
と言っても、きっぱり断りなさい。
11 「待ち伏せして人を襲い、
身ぐるみ巻き上げ、殺そう、
12 正しい者も悪い者も見境なく。
13 盗んだ物はわれわれのものだ。
あらゆる物が！
14 さあ、仲間に入れ。山分けしよう」と誘われても、
15 決してその誘いにのってはいけません。
そんな者たちには近寄らないようにしなさい。
16 彼らは悪いことをするだけが生きがいで、
人殺しは彼らの専売特許なのです。
17 鳥は罠が仕掛けられているところを見れば、
近寄りません。
18 ところが、彼らは自分で自分を罠にかけているのです。
愚かなことに、罠をかけて
自分のいのちをつけねらっているのです。
19 暴力をふるったり人殺しをしたりする者たちは、
みなこうなるのです。
彼らには悲惨な死が待っています。
知恵の勧め
20 知恵は町の中で叫んでいます。
21 大通りの群衆や法廷の裁判官、
そして国中の人に呼びかけます。
22 「愚か者よ、いつまで聞き分けがないのか。
いつまで知恵をさげすみ、素直に真実を認めないのか。
23 さあ、わたしの言うことを聞きなさい。
あなたに知恵の霊を注ぎ、賢くしよう。
24 わたしは何度も呼んだのに、
あなたがたはそばに来ようともしなかった。
嘆願までしたのに、知らん顔をしていた。
25 わたしの忠告にも叱責にも、耳を貸そうとしない。
26 あなたがたには、いつか災いが起こる。
そのとき、わたしはあなたがたを笑う。
27 災いが嵐のように襲いかかり、
恐れや苦しみに打ちのめされそうになるとき、
28 そのときになって助けてくれと言っても、
わたしはあなたがたを助けない。
わたしを懸命に捜しても、もう遅い。
29 それはあなたがたが真実から目をそむけ、
主を信頼せず、
30 わたしの忠告を聞かずに、
やりたいことをやっていたからだ。
31 あなたがたは、その報いを受けなければならない。
自分で選んだ道なのだから、十分苦しみ、
恐ろしい思いをするがいい。
32 わたしをきらうとは、全く愚かな人たちだ。
一歩一歩死に近づいているのも知らずに、
いい気になっている。
33 しかし、わたしに聞き従う人は、
何の心配もなく、毎日を平和に暮らす。」
知恵の有益さ
2 1-2 若者よ。私のことばを聞き、私の教えに従う者はみな、
英知を与えられます。
3-5 もっと深い洞察や識別力がほしいなら、
なくした銀貨や秘密の宝を捜すように、
熱心に求めなさい。
そうすれば、主ご自身を知り、
すばらしい主の知恵が与えられます。
主を信じ敬うことがどんなに大切か
わかります。
6 主が知恵をお授けになるからです。
主のことばはどれも知恵の宝庫です。
7-8 主は正しい人に英知を授け、
彼らの盾となって、安全に守ってくれます。
9 主は、どんなときにも
何が正しく何が間違っているか、
正しく判断する方法を教えてくれます。
10 それは知恵と真理があなたの心に入り、
喜びにあふれるからです。
11-14 こうしてあなたは、
仲間に引き込もうとする悪い者たちから離れられます。
彼らは神の道からそれ、
暗い悪の道に歩み、
悪事を働くのが何より楽しいのです。
15 彼らは、ひねくれたこと、
間違ったことばかりします。
16-17 悪い女の甘い誘いに惑わされないために、
神の知恵を身につけなさい。
彼女は結婚の誓いをさげすみ、
平気で夫を裏切りました。
18 彼女の家は死と地獄への通り道です。
19 その家に入る者は身をもちくずし、
二度と立ち直れません。
20 身も心もきよく生きなさい。
何があろうと、正しい道からそれてはいけません。
21 人生を思う存分楽しめるのは正しい人だけです。
22 悪人はせっかく幸運を手にしても失い、
やがて破滅に至るのです。
知恵は繁栄をもたらす
3 1-2 わが子よ。私の教えたことを忘れてはいけません。
充実した生涯を送りたければ、
私の命令を忠実に守りなさい。
3 いつも正しい生活をし、人には親切にしなさい。
この二つが心から行えるように、
しっかり身につけなさい。
4-5 神にも人にも喜ばれ、
正しい判断力と英知を得たいなら、
とことん主に信頼しなさい。
決して自分に頼ってはいけません。
6 何をするにも、主を第一にしなさい。
主がどうすればよいか教えてくださり、
それを成功させてくださいます。
7-8 自分の知恵を過信してはいけません。
むしろ主に信頼して、
悪の道から離れなさい。
心も体もみずみずしく元気がみなぎります。
9-10 収入があったなら、まずその一部をささげて、
主をあがめなさい。
そうすれば、倉には食べ物があふれ、
酒蔵は極上の酒で満たされます。
11-12 主に懲らしめられても、腹を立ててはいけません。
あなたを愛していればこそ、そうするのです。
父親がかわいい子どもの将来を思って
罰するのと同じです。
13-15 善悪の区別がつき、
正しい判断力と英知を持った人は、
大金持ちよりも幸せです。
高価な宝石も、このような知恵に比べたら
取るに足りません。
16-17 知恵が与えるものは、
長く良き人生、財産、名誉、楽しみ、平安です。
18 知恵はいのちの木、
いつもその実を食べる人は幸せです。
19 主の知恵によって地球は造られ、
宇宙全体ができました。
20 神の知恵によって、泉は地中深くからわき上がり、
空は雨を降らせるのです。
21 二つのものを求めなさい。
善悪を見分ける知恵と良識です。
この二つを見失ってはいけません。
22 それらはあなたを生きる力で満たし、
あなたの誉れです。
23 挫折や失敗からあなたを守ります。
24-26 それらがあなたを見張ってくれるので、
安心して眠れます。
また、主があなたとともにいて守ってくださるので、
みじめな思いをすることも、
悪者の悪だくみを恐れることもありません。
27-28 人に何か頼まれたら、すぐにしてあげなさい。
「いつかそのうち」などと、先に延ばしてはいけません。
29 あなたを信じきっている隣人を陥れてはいけません。
30 意味のないことで争うのはやめなさい。
31 暴力をふるう者たちをうらやんで、
彼らの手口をまねてはいけません。
32 主はそのような者たちをきらいます。
しかし、神の前に正しく生きる人には
親しくしてくださいます。
33 悪者は主にのろわれ、正しい人は祝福されます。
34 あざける者はあざけられ、謙遜な人は助けられ、
35 知恵ある人はたたえられ、愚か者は恥を見るのです。

Purpose and Theme
1 The proverbs(A) of Solomon(B) son of David, king of Israel:(C)
2 for gaining wisdom and instruction;
for understanding words of insight;
3 for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
doing what is right and just and fair;
4 for giving prudence to those who are simple,[a](D)
knowledge and discretion(E) to the young—
5 let the wise listen and add to their learning,(F)
and let the discerning get guidance—
6 for understanding proverbs and parables,(G)
the sayings and riddles(H) of the wise.[b](I)
7 The fear of the Lord(J) is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools[c] despise wisdom(K) and instruction.(L)
Prologue: Exhortations to Embrace Wisdom
Warning Against the Invitation of Sinful Men
8 Listen, my son,(M) to your father’s(N) instruction
and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.(O)
9 They are a garland to grace your head
and a chain to adorn your neck.(P)
10 My son, if sinful men entice(Q) you,
do not give in(R) to them.(S)
11 If they say, “Come along with us;
let’s lie in wait(T) for innocent blood,
let’s ambush some harmless soul;
12 let’s swallow(U) them alive, like the grave,
and whole, like those who go down to the pit;(V)
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things
and fill our houses with plunder;
14 cast lots with us;
we will all share the loot(W)”—
15 my son, do not go along with them,
do not set foot(X) on their paths;(Y)
16 for their feet rush into evil,(Z)
they are swift to shed blood.(AA)
17 How useless to spread a net
where every bird can see it!
18 These men lie in wait(AB) for their own blood;
they ambush only themselves!(AC)
19 Such are the paths of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the life of those who get it.(AD)
Wisdom’s Rebuke
20 Out in the open wisdom calls aloud,(AE)
she raises her voice in the public square;
21 on top of the wall[d] she cries out,
at the city gate she makes her speech:
22 “How long will you who are simple(AF) love your simple ways?
How long will mockers delight in mockery
and fools hate(AG) knowledge?
23 Repent at my rebuke!
Then I will pour out my thoughts to you,
I will make known to you my teachings.
24 But since you refuse(AH) to listen when I call(AI)
and no one pays attention(AJ) when I stretch out my hand,
25 since you disregard all my advice
and do not accept my rebuke,
26 I in turn will laugh(AK) when disaster(AL) strikes you;
I will mock(AM) when calamity overtakes you(AN)—
27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster(AO) sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you.
28 “Then they will call to me but I will not answer;(AP)
they will look for me but will not find me,(AQ)
29 since they hated knowledge
and did not choose to fear the Lord.(AR)
30 Since they would not accept my advice
and spurned my rebuke,(AS)
31 they will eat the fruit of their ways
and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.(AT)
32 For the waywardness of the simple will kill them,
and the complacency of fools will destroy them;(AU)
33 but whoever listens to me will live in safety(AV)
and be at ease, without fear of harm.”(AW)
Moral Benefits of Wisdom
2 My son,(AX) if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding(AY)—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight(AZ)
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,(BA)
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.(BB)
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;(BC)
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.(BD)
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield(BE) to those whose walk is blameless,(BF)
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.(BG)
9 Then you will understand(BH) what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,(BI)
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.(BJ)
12 Wisdom will save(BK) you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,
13 who have left the straight paths
to walk in dark ways,(BL)
14 who delight in doing wrong
and rejoice in the perverseness of evil,(BM)
15 whose paths are crooked(BN)
and who are devious in their ways.(BO)
16 Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman,(BP)
from the wayward woman with her seductive words,
17 who has left the partner of her youth
and ignored the covenant she made before God.[e](BQ)
18 Surely her house leads down to death
and her paths to the spirits of the dead.(BR)
19 None who go to her return
or attain the paths of life.(BS)
20 Thus you will walk in the ways of the good
and keep to the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright will live in the land,(BT)
and the blameless will remain in it;
22 but the wicked(BU) will be cut off from the land,(BV)
and the unfaithful will be torn from it.(BW)
Wisdom Bestows Well-Being
3 My son,(BX) do not forget my teaching,(BY)
but keep my commands in your heart,
2 for they will prolong your life many years(BZ)
and bring you peace and prosperity.(CA)
3 Let love and faithfulness(CB) never leave you;
bind them around your neck,
write them on the tablet of your heart.(CC)
4 Then you will win favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man.(CD)
5 Trust in the Lord(CE) with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths(CF) straight.[f](CG)
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;(CH)
fear the Lord(CI) and shun evil.(CJ)
8 This will bring health to your body(CK)
and nourishment to your bones.(CL)
9 Honor the Lord with your wealth,
with the firstfruits(CM) of all your crops;
10 then your barns will be filled(CN) to overflowing,
and your vats will brim over with new wine.(CO)
11 My son,(CP) do not despise the Lord’s discipline,(CQ)
and do not resent his rebuke,
12 because the Lord disciplines those he loves,(CR)
as a father the son he delights in.[g](CS)
13 Blessed are those who find wisdom,
those who gain understanding,
14 for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold.(CT)
15 She is more precious than rubies;(CU)
nothing you desire can compare with her.(CV)
16 Long life is in her right hand;(CW)
in her left hand are riches and honor.(CX)
17 Her ways are pleasant ways,
and all her paths are peace.(CY)
18 She is a tree of life(CZ) to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.(DA)
19 By wisdom(DB) the Lord laid the earth’s foundations,(DC)
by understanding he set the heavens(DD) in place;
20 by his knowledge the watery depths were divided,
and the clouds let drop the dew.
21 My son,(DE) do not let wisdom and understanding out of your sight,(DF)
preserve sound judgment and discretion;
22 they will be life for you,(DG)
an ornament to grace your neck.(DH)
23 Then you will go on your way in safety,(DI)
and your foot will not stumble.(DJ)
24 When you lie down,(DK) you will not be afraid;(DL)
when you lie down, your sleep(DM) will be sweet.
25 Have no fear of sudden disaster
or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
26 for the Lord will be at your side(DN)
and will keep your foot(DO) from being snared.(DP)
27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to act.
28 Do not say to your neighbor,
“Come back tomorrow and I’ll give it to you”—
when you already have it with you.(DQ)
29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor,
who lives trustfully near you.(DR)
30 Do not accuse anyone for no reason—
when they have done you no harm.
31 Do not envy(DS) the violent
or choose any of their ways.
32 For the Lord detests the perverse(DT)
but takes the upright into his confidence.(DU)
33 The Lord’s curse(DV) is on the house of the wicked,(DW)
but he blesses the home of the righteous.(DX)
34 He mocks(DY) proud mockers(DZ)
but shows favor to the humble(EA) and oppressed.
35 The wise inherit honor,
but fools get only shame.

もう律法に支配されない
7 キリストを信じるユダヤ人の皆さん。皆さんの知っている律法は死んだ人まで拘束しないことを知らないのですか。 2 一例をあげれば、女性は結婚すると、夫が生きている限り、律法によって夫に束縛されています。しかし夫の死後は、もはや束縛されません。結婚の規定はもう適用されないのです。 3 ほかの男性と結婚したいなら、結婚してかまいません。そのようなことは、夫が生きているうちは罪ですが、夫の死後なら、やましいことは少しもないのです。
4 同様に、かつて律法は、あなたがたの「夫」すなわち主人でした。しかし、あなたがたはキリストと共に十字架上で死んだのですから、律法との婚姻関係は解消されました。もう律法に支配されることはありません。そして、キリストの復活と同時に、あなたがたも復活し、新しい人になりました。今は、死者の中から復活された方と結ばれているのです。それは、神のために良い実を結ぶためです。 5 私たちの古い性質がまだ生きていた時には、欲望が私たちの中で思うままにふるまい、神の命令に逆らって、罪深い行いという死に至る腐った実を結びました。 6 しかし、それらに捕らえられていた私たちは死んだのですから、今は文字による律法にわずらわされる必要はなく、新しい御霊によって神に仕えているのです。
7 私が、律法は悪いものだと言っていると思いますか。絶対にそんなことはありません。それどころか、律法が私の罪を明らかにしてくれたのです。もし、「むさぼってはならない」（出エジプト20・17）という律法がなければ、私は自分の心にあるむさぼりを知らなかったでしょう。 8 ところが罪は、この律法を逆用して、このような欲望が悪いことをわからせながら、かえって、あらゆるむさぼりを、私のうちにかき立てました。律法さえなかったなら、罪を犯すこともなかったでしょう。 9 私は、律法が何を要求しているかを知らなかった時には罪の自覚がありませんでした。しかし真実がわかった時、自分が律法を破っており、死を宣告された罪人であることがはっきりわかりました。 10 それで、私にとって、本来いのちの道を示してくれるはずの戒めが、かえって死の罰を科すものになってしまいました。 11 罪は私をだましたのです。神の戒めを盾に取り、私を死罪に定めたのですから。 12 しかし、律法は聖なるものであり、戒めも聖であり、正しく、良いものです。
13 けれども、はたして納得できますか。私に死をもたらしたのは、ほかならぬ律法なのです。だとしたら、どうして律法が良いものでありえましょう。律法を利用して死罪をもたらしたのは、悪魔的なこの罪なのです。罪がどんなにずる賢く、恐ろしく、いまわしいものかわかるでしょう。自分の悪い目的のために、ぬけぬけと律法を利用するのですから。 14 本来、律法は霊的なものであり、問題はむしろ罪ある私にあります。私は、罪という主人に、奴隷として売り渡されているのです。
まだ心の中にある罪との戦い
15 私は自分のしていることがわかりません。ほんとうは正しいことをしたいのに、できないのです。反対に、したくないこと、憎んでいることをしてしまいます。 16 自分の行いが誤っていること、律法は良いものであることが、私にはわかっています。 17 ですから、したくないことをしているのは、もはや私ではなく、私のうちに巣くっている罪なのです。
18 古い罪の性質のために、私は自分が腐敗しきっているのを知っています。正しいことを行いたいのに、どんなにもがいても、できないのです。 19 良いことをしたいと思ってもできず、悪いことをしないように努めても、どうしてもやめられません。 20 自分ではしたくないことをしているとすれば、問題点は明らかです。すなわち、罪がなおも私をしっかり捕らえているのです。 21 正しいことをしたいと思っているのに、どうしても悪いことをしてしまう、そういう法則があるように思います。 22 新しい性質をいただいた私としては、神のご意思どおり行いたいのですが、 23-25 心の中に潜む悪い性質には別の力があって、それが私の心に戦いをいどみます。そして、ついに私を打ち負かし、いまだに私のうちにある罪の奴隷にしてしまうのです。私は、心では喜んで神に従いたいと願いながら、実際には、相変わらず罪の奴隷となっています。
これが私の実情なのです。ああ、私はなんとみじめで哀れな人間でしょう。いったいだれが、この悪い性質の奴隷状態から解放してくれるのでしょうか。しかし、主イエス･キリストのゆえに、ただ神に感謝します。キリストによって、私は解放されました。この方が自由の身にしてくださったのです。

Released From the Law, Bound to Christ
7 Do you not know, brothers and sisters(A)—for I am speaking to those who know the law—that the law has authority over someone only as long as that person lives? 2 For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law that binds her to him.(B) 3 So then, if she has sexual relations with another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress.(C) But if her husband dies, she is released from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.
4 So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law(D) through the body of Christ,(E) that you might belong to another,(F) to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. 5 For when we were in the realm of the flesh,[a](G) the sinful passions aroused by the law(H) were at work in us,(I) so that we bore fruit for death.(J) 6 But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law(K) so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.(L)
The Law and Sin
7 What shall we say, then?(M) Is the law sinful? Certainly not!(N) Nevertheless, I would not have known what sin was had it not been for the law.(O) For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”[b](P) 8 But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment,(Q) produced in me every kind of coveting. For apart from the law, sin was dead.(R) 9 Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. 10 I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life(S) actually brought death. 11 For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment,(T) deceived me,(U) and through the commandment put me to death. 12 So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good.(V)
13 Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! Nevertheless, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it used what is good(W) to bring about my death,(X) so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual,(Y) sold(Z) as a slave to sin.(AA) 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.(AB) 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good.(AC) 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me.(AD) 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[c](AE) For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing.(AF) 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.(AG)
21 So I find this law at work:(AH) Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being(AI) I delight in God’s law;(AJ) 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war(AK) against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin(AL) at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?(AM) 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!(AN)
So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law,(AO) but in my sinful nature[d] a slave to the law of sin.(AP)
