Offerings of the Leaders

Now it happened on (A)the day that Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle, that he (B)anointed it and set it apart as holy with all its furnishings and the altar and all its utensils; he anointed them and set them apart as holy. Then (C)the leaders of Israel, the heads of their fathers’ households, (D)brought an offering near (they were the leaders of the tribes; they were the ones who [a]were over the [b]numbered men). And they brought their offering before Yahweh, six (E)covered carts and twelve oxen, a cart for every two of the leaders and an ox for each one, and they brought them near before the tabernacle. Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, “Accept these things from them, that they may be [c]used in the service of the tent of meeting, and you shall give them to the Levites, to each man according to his service.” So Moses took the carts and the oxen and gave them to the Levites. Chapter 7

Offerings of the Tribal Leaders. Now, when Moses had completed the erection of the tabernacle, he anointed and consecrated it with all its equipment,(A) as well as the altar with all its equipment. After he anointed and consecrated them, an offering was made by the tribal leaders of Israel, who were heads of ancestral houses, the same leaders of the tribes who supervised those enrolled. The offering they brought before the Lord consisted of six wagons for baggage and twelve oxen, that is, a wagon for every two tribal leaders, and an ox for each. These they presented before the tabernacle.

The Lord then said to Moses: Accept their offering, that these things may be put to use to maintain the tent of meeting. Assign them to the Levites, to each according to his duties. So Moses accepted the wagons and oxen, and assigned them to the Levites. He gave two wagons and four oxen to the Gershonites(B) according to their duties, and four wagons and eight oxen to the Merarites according to their duties, under the supervision of Ithamar, son of Aaron the priest.
