Numbers 12
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
12 Now Miriam and Aaron talked against Moses [their brother] because of his [a]Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite woman.
2 And they said, Has the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? Has He not spoken also by us? And the Lord heard it.
3 Now the man Moses was very meek (gentle, kind, and humble) or above all the men on the face of the earth.
4 Suddenly the Lord said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, Come out, you three, to the Tent of Meeting. And the three of them came out.
5 The Lord came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the Tent door and called Aaron and Miriam, and they came forward.
6 And He said, Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord make Myself known to him in a vision and speak to him in a dream.
7 But not so with My servant Moses; he is entrusted and faithful in all My house.(A)
8 With him I speak mouth to mouth [directly], clearly and not in dark speeches; and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?
9 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them, and He departed.
10 And when the cloud departed from over the Tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. And Aaron looked at Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous!
11 And Aaron said to Moses, Oh, my lord, I plead with you, lay not the sin upon us in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned.
12 Let her not be as one dead, already half decomposed when he comes out of his mother’s womb.
13 And Moses cried to the Lord, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech You!
14 And the Lord said to Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed for seven days? Let her be shut up outside the camp for seven days, and after that let her be brought in again.
15 So Miriam was shut up without the camp for seven days, and the people did not journey on until Miriam was brought in again.
16 Afterward [they] removed from Hazeroth and encamped in the Wilderness of Paran.
Footnotes
- Numbers 12:1 Zipporah, Moses’ wife, seems to have died some time before. Marriage with a Canaanite was forbidden, but not with an Egyptian or Cushite. Joseph’s wife was an Egyptian (Gen. 41:45).
Numbers 12
New King James Version
Dissension of Aaron and Miriam
12 Then (A)Miriam and Aaron [a]spoke (B)against Moses because of the [b]Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for (C)he had married an Ethiopian woman. 2 So they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through (D)Moses? (E)Has He not spoken through us also?” And the Lord (F)heard it. 3 (Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.)
4 (G)Suddenly the Lord said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, “Come out, you three, to the tabernacle of meeting!” So the three came out. 5 (H)Then the Lord came down in the pillar of cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam. And they both went forward. 6 Then He said,
“Hear now My words:
If there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, make Myself known to him (I)in a vision;
I speak to him (J)in a dream.
7 Not so with (K)My servant Moses;
(L)He is faithful in all (M)My house.
8 I speak with him (N)face to face,
Even (O)plainly,[c] and not in [d]dark sayings;
And he sees (P)the form of the Lord.
Why then (Q)were you not afraid
To speak against My servant Moses?”
9 So the anger of the Lord was aroused against them, and He departed. 10 And when the cloud departed from above the tabernacle, (R)suddenly Miriam became (S)leprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was, a leper. 11 So Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord! Please (T)do not lay [e]this sin on us, in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned. 12 Please (U)do not let her be as one dead, whose flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb!”
13 So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “Please (V)heal her, O God, I pray!”
14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had but (W)spit in her face, would she not be shamed seven days? Let her be (X)shut[f] out of the camp seven days, and afterward she may be received again.” 15 (Y)So Miriam was shut out of the camp seven days, and the people did not journey till Miriam was brought in again. 16 And afterward the people moved from (Z)Hazeroth and camped in the Wilderness of Paran.

Numeri 12
Beibl William Morgan
12 Llefarodd Miriam hefyd ac Aaron yn erbyn Moses, o achos y wraig o Ethiopia yr hon a briodasai efe: canys efe a gymerasai Ethiopes yn wraig. 2 A dywedasant, Ai yn unig trwy Moses y llefarodd yr Arglwydd? oni lefarodd efe trwom ninnau hefyd? A’r Arglwydd a glybu hynny. 3 A’r gŵr Moses ydoedd larieiddiaf o’r holl ddynion oedd ar wyneb y ddaear. 4 A dywedodd yr Arglwydd yn ddisymwth wrth Moses, ac wrth Aaron, ac wrth Miriam, Deuwch allan eich trioedd i babell y cyfarfod. A hwy a aethant allan ill trioedd. 5 Yna y disgynnodd yr Arglwydd yng ngholofn y cwmwl, ac a safodd wrth ddrws y babell, ac a alwodd Aaron a Miriam. A hwy a aethant allan ill dau. 6 Ac efe a ddywedodd, Gwrandewch yr awr hon fy ngeiriau. Os bydd proffwyd yr Arglwydd yn eich mysg, mewn gweledigaeth yr ymhysbysaf iddo, neu mewn breuddwyd y llefaraf wrtho. 7 Nid felly y mae fy ngwas Moses, yr hwn sydd ffyddlon yn fy holl dŷ. 8 Wyneb yn wyneb y llefaraf wrtho, mewn gwelediad, nid mewn damhegion; ond caiff edrych ar wedd yr Arglwydd: paham gan hynny nad oeddech yn ofni dywedyd yn erbyn fy ngwas, sef yn erbyn Moses? 9 A digofaint yr Arglwydd a enynnodd yn eu herbyn hwynt; ac efe a aeth ymaith. 10 A’r cwmwl a ymadawodd oddi ar y babell: ac wele, Miriam ydoedd wahanglwyfus, fel yr eira. Ac edrychodd Aaron ar Miriam; ac wele hi yn wahanglwyfus. 11 Yna y dywedodd Aaron wrth Moses, O fy arglwydd, atolwg, na osod yn ein herbyn y pechod yr hwn yn ynfyd a wnaethom, a thrwy yr hwn y pechasom. 12 Na fydded hi, atolwg, fel un marw, yr hwn y bydd hanner ei gnawd wedi ei ddifa pan ddêl allan o groth ei fam. 13 A Moses a waeddodd ar yr Arglwydd, gan ddywedyd, O Dduw, atolwg, meddyginiaetha hi yr awr hon.
14 A dywedodd yr Arglwydd wrth Moses, Os ei thad a boerai yn ei hwyneb, oni chywilyddiai hi saith niwrnod? caeer arni saith niwrnod o’r tu allan i’r gwersyll ac wedi hynny derbynier hi. 15 A chaewyd ar Miriam o’r tu allan i’r gwersyll saith niwrnod: a’r bobl ni chychwynnodd hyd oni ddaeth Miriam i mewn drachefn. 16 Ac wedi hynny yr aeth y bobl o Haseroth, ac a wersyllasant yn anialwch Paran.
