1 Este livro trata da profecia de Naum de Elcós, a visão que teve da parte de Deus a respeito da cidade de Nínive[a].
O Senhor está furioso com Nínive
2 Naum diz: “O SENHOR é Deus ciumento e vingativo.
O SENHOR é vingativo,
pois não há ira maior do que a sua.
O SENHOR se vinga daqueles que estão contra ele
e se enfurece contra os seus inimigos.
3 O SENHOR não se ira com facilidade,
embora também seja muito forte.
O SENHOR não deixará sem castigo à pessoa que tem culpa.
Caminha entre as tempestades e as tormentas de areia;
as nuvens são o pó dos seus pés.
4 Repreende o mar e este se seca;
faz todos os rios se evaporarem.
Basã e Carmelo se ressecam;
as flores do Líbano murcham.
5 Diante dele tremem as montanhas
e se derretem os montes.
O mundo inteiro e cada um dos seus moradores
tremem diante dele.
6 Quem o poderá enfrentar quando ele ficar furioso?
Quem poderá suportar o calor da sua fúria?
Sua ira se espalha como o fogo
e até as rochas são destruídas quando ele passa por elas.
7 “O SENHOR é bom;
é refúgio em tempos difíceis
e protetor dos que procuram pela sua ajuda.
8 Mas irá destruir aos seus inimigos por completo:
ele virá como uma grande inundação e acabará com eles,
perseguindo-os até levá-los para a escuridão.
9 Que fazem alguns planejando contra o SENHOR?
Ele desbaratará esses planos
e se assegurará de que não surja de novo a hostilidade.
10 Embora sejam como espinhos entrelaçados
e bêbados saturados de bebida alcoólica,
eles serão consumidos como palha seca.
11 Já foi embora o malvado que fez planos contra você, Judá[b],
e contra o SENHOR”.
12 O SENHOR diz: “Embora os assírios agora estejam sãos e sejam muitos,
ainda assim serão cortados e desaparecerão.
Judá, tenho feito você sofrer,
mas farei com que você não sofra mais.
13 Destruirei o jugo que pesa sobre você,
quebrarei as ataduras que aprisionam você.
14 “Mas quanto a você, rei de Nínive,
eu, o SENHOR, farei com que não tenha descendentes.
Destruirei todo ídolo e toda estátua
que exista no templo dos seus deuses.
Terei o seu caixão preparado
porque você não vale nada”.
15 Naum diz: “Das montanhas vem um mensageiro que traz boas notícias,
que proclama a paz.
Judá, comemore as suas festas,
cumpra a Deus suas promessas,
pois aquele perverso nunca mais atacará você;
será completamente destruído”.

1 A prophecy(A) concerning Nineveh.(B) The book of the vision(C) of Nahum the Elkoshite.
The Lord’s Anger Against Nineveh
2 The Lord is a jealous(D) and avenging God;
the Lord takes vengeance(E) and is filled with wrath.
The Lord takes vengeance on his foes
and vents his wrath against his enemies.(F)
3 The Lord is slow to anger(G) but great in power;
the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.(H)
His way is in the whirlwind(I) and the storm,(J)
and clouds(K) are the dust of his feet.
4 He rebukes(L) the sea and dries it up;(M)
he makes all the rivers run dry.
Bashan and Carmel(N) wither
and the blossoms of Lebanon fade.
5 The mountains quake(O) before him
and the hills melt away.(P)
The earth trembles(Q) at his presence,
the world and all who live in it.(R)
6 Who can withstand(S) his indignation?
Who can endure(T) his fierce anger?(U)
His wrath is poured out like fire;(V)
the rocks are shattered(W) before him.
7 The Lord is good,(X)
a refuge in times of trouble.(Y)
He cares for(Z) those who trust in him,(AA)
8 but with an overwhelming flood(AB)
he will make an end of Nineveh;
he will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness.
9 Whatever they plot(AC) against the Lord
he will bring[a] to an end;
trouble will not come a second time.
10 They will be entangled among thorns(AD)
and drunk(AE) from their wine;
they will be consumed like dry stubble.[b](AF)
11 From you, Nineveh, has one come forth
who plots evil against the Lord
and devises wicked plans.
12 This is what the Lord says:
“Although they have allies and are numerous,
they will be destroyed(AG) and pass away.
Although I have afflicted you, Judah,
I will afflict you no more.(AH)
13 Now I will break their yoke(AI) from your neck
and tear your shackles away.”(AJ)
