Liknelsen om de tio brudtärnorna
25 På den dagen ska det vara med himmelriket som med tio unga flickor, som var tärnor vid ett bröllop och som tog sina lampor och gick för att möta brudgummen.
2-4 Men bara fem av dem var kloka nog att fylla lamporna med olja, medan de andra fem var tanklösa och glömde det.
5-6 När brudgummen blev sen lade de sig för att vila och somnade. Vid midnatt väcktes de av ett rop: 'Brudgummen kommer! Kom ut och välkomna honom!'
7-8 Alla flickorna skyndade sig upp och gjorde i ordning sina lampor. Då tiggde och bad de fem, som inte hade någon olja, att de andra skulle dela med sig åt dem, eftersom deras lampor slocknade.
9 Men de andra svarade: 'Vi har inte så mycket att det räcker till er också. Gå i stället iväg till dem som säljer och köp det ni behöver!'
10 Men medan de var borta kom brudgummen, och de som hade tillräckligt med olja i sina lampor gick med honom in till bröllopsfesten, och dörren låstes.
11 Efter en stund kom de fem andra tillbaka och ställde sig utanför dörren och ropade: 'Herre, öppna för oss!'
12 Men då ropade han tillbaka: 'Gå er väg! Jag vet inte vilka ni är!'
13 Håll er därför vakna och var beredda för ni vet inte vilken dag eller vilken timme jag kommer tillbaka.
Liknelsen om de förvaltade pengarna
14 Hur det förhåller sig med himmelriket kan man också förstå av berättelsen om mannen som for utomlands. Han samlade sina tjänare och gav dem i uppdrag att förvalta hans förmögenhet medan han var borta.
15 Till den ene gav han fem tusen kronor, till den andre två tusen kronor och till den tredje tusen kronor, allt i proportion till deras förmåga. Sedan reste han.
16 Mannen som hade fått fem tusen kronor började genast köpa och sälja och tjänade snart ihop ytterligare fem tusen kronor.
17 Mannen med två tusen kronor gjorde likadant och tjänade ytterligare två tusen kronor.
18 Men mannen som fick tusen kronor grävde en grop i marken och gömde pengarna där för att de skulle vara i säkert förvar.
19 Efter lång tid kom deras arbetsgivare tillbaka från resan. Han kallade då på männen och bad dem redovisa pengarna.
20 Den man som hade fått hand om fem tusen kronor gav honom tio tusen kronor.
21 Då berömde hans arbetsgivare honom för hans pålitlighet. 'Du har förvaltat denna summa väl
22 Sedan kom mannen som tagit emot två tusen kronor och redovisade: 'Du gav mig två tusen kronor att förvalta, och jag har fördubblat dem.'
23 'Utmärkt!
24-25 Sedan kom mannen med de tusen kronorna och sa: 'Jag vet att du är en sträng man, och jag tänkte att hur mycket jag än tjänar så tar du det ifrån mig. Jag vågade inte att ge mig in i några som helst affärer. Därför grävde jag ner pengarna i jorden. Här får du dem tillbaka!'
26 Men hans arbetsgivare svarade: 'Din late bedragare! Eftersom du visste att jag skulle kräva mer tillbaka än du hade fått,
27 borde du åtminstone satt in pengarna på banken, så att jag hade kunnat få ränta på dem.
28 Ta ifrån honom pengarna och ge dem till den man som har tio tusen kronor.
29 För den som väl använder det han fått, ska få mer och han ska leva i överflöd. Men den ansvarslöse ska bli fråntagen till och med det lilla ansvar han har.
30 Kasta ut den oduglige tjänaren i mörkret här utanför. Där ska man gråta och skära tänder i sin förtvivlan.'
Den slutliga domen
31 Men när Människosonen kommer i sin härlighet tillsammans med alla sina änglar, då ska han sätta sig på Guds tron.
32 Alla folk ska samlas inför honom, och han ska dela människorna i två grupper, som en herde skiljer fåren från getterna.
33 Fåren ska han ställa på sin högra sida och getterna på sin vänstra.
34 Sedan ska kungen säga till dem som står på den högra sidan: 'Kom, ni som min Far har välsignat, och gå in i det rike som från världens början gjorts i ordning åt er!
35 Jag var hungrig, och ni gav mig mat. Jag var törstig, och ni gav mig vatten. Jag var en främling, och ni öppnade era hem för mig.
36 Jag var naken, och ni gav mig kläder. Jag var sjuk, och ni tog hand om mig. Jag var i fängelse, och ni besökte mig.'
37 Då kommer dessa rättfärdiga att svara: 'Herre, när såg vi dig hungrig och gav dig mat? Eller törstig och gav dig något att dricka?
38 Eller som främling och hjälpte dig? Eller naken och klädde dig?
39 När såg vi dig sjuk eller i fängelse och besökte dig?'
40 Och kungen ska säga till dem: 'När ni gjorde detta för dessa mina minsta bröder gjorde ni det för mig!'
41 Därefter ska han vända sig till dem som står på den vänstra sidan och säga: 'Gå bort med er, ni förbannade, till den eviga eld som har gjorts i ordning åt djävulen och hans änglar.
42 För jag var hungrig, men ni gav mig ingen mat, jag var törstig, men ni gav mig ingenting att dricka.
43 Jag var en främling, men ni vägrade att ge mig husrum. Jag var naken, men ni gav mig inga kläder. Jag var sjuk och i fängelse, men ni besökte mig inte.'
44 Då ska de säga: 'Herre, har vi någonsin sett att du var hungrig eller törstig, eller att du var en främling, eller att du var naken eller sjuk eller i fängelse utan att vi hjälpt dig? '
45 Och kungen ska svara: 'När ni vägrade att hjälpa den minste av dessa mina bröder, då vägrade ni att hjälpa mig.'
46 Och de ska gå bort till evigt straff, men de som gjort Guds vilja ska leva för evigt.

The Parable of the Ten Virgins
25 “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like(A) ten virgins who took their lamps(B) and went out to meet the bridegroom.(C) 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise.(D) 3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. 4 The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. 5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.(E)
6 “At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
7 “Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’(F)
9 “‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet.(G) And the door was shut.
11 “Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
12 “But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’(H)
13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.(I)
The Parable of the Bags of Gold(J)
14 “Again, it will be like a man going on a journey,(K) who called his servants and entrusted his wealth to them. 15 To one he gave five bags of gold, to another two bags, and to another one bag,[a] each according to his ability.(L) Then he went on his journey. 16 The man who had received five bags of gold went at once and put his money to work and gained five bags more. 17 So also, the one with two bags of gold gained two more. 18 But the man who had received one bag went off, dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money.
19 “After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them.(M) 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’
21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.(N) Come and share your master’s happiness!’
22 “The man with two bags of gold also came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with two bags of gold; see, I have gained two more.’
23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.(O) Come and share your master’s happiness!’
24 “Then the man who had received one bag of gold came. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. 25 So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’
26 “His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed? 27 Well then, you should have put my money on deposit with the bankers, so that when I returned I would have received it back with interest.
28 “‘So take the bag of gold from him and give it to the one who has ten bags. 29 For whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.(P) 30 And throw that worthless servant outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’(Q)
The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes(R) in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne.(S) 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate(T) the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.(U) 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom(V) prepared for you since the creation of the world.(W) 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,(X) 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me,(Y) I was sick and you looked after me,(Z) I was in prison and you came to visit me.’(AA)
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’(AB)
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me,(AC) you who are cursed, into the eternal fire(AD) prepared for the devil and his angels.(AE) 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’(AF)
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.(AG)”(AH)
