Lewi (Matius) mengikuti Yesus
(Mat 9:9-13; Luk 5:27-32)
13 Yesus pergi lagi ke tepi danau. Banyak orang datang mengelilingi-Nya, lalu Yesus mulai mengajar mereka. 14 Ketika Yesus berjalan, Ia melihat seorang yang bernama Lewi, anak Alfeus sedang duduk di tempat di mana ia memungut pajak. Yesus berkata kepada Lewi, “Ikutlah Aku.” Lewi berdiri dan mengikuti Yesus.
15 Setelah itu, Yesus makan di rumah Lewi. Banyak pemungut pajak dan orang-orang yang martabatnya buruk telah menjadi pengikut Yesus. Jadi, mereka semuanya ini sedang makan bersama Yesus dan pengikut-Nya. 16 Ketika beberapa guru Taurat dari golongan Farisi melihat Yesus sedang makan bersama orang-orang berdosa itu, mereka bertanya kepada pengikut-Nya, “Mengapa Ia makan dengan pemungut pajak dan orang-orang berdosa?”
17 Ketika Yesus mendengar itu, Ia berkata kepada mereka, “Orang-orang sakitlah yang memerlukan dokter, bukan mereka yang sehat. Aku datang untuk memanggil orang-orang berdosa mengikuti Aku, bukan mereka yang melakukan semuanya dengan benar.”

Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners(A)
13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him,(B) and he began to teach them. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,”(C) Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees(D) saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”(E)
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”(F)

Once again Jesus went out to the shore of the lake,[a] and as a large crowd came to him, he taught them. 14 As he was walking along, he saw Levi[b] the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. Jesus said to him, “Follow me,” and he got up and followed him.
15 Jesus Eats with Sinners. When he was sitting at dinner in his[c] house, many tax collectors and sinners were seated with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed Jesus. 16 Some scribes who were Pharisees noticed that Jesus was eating with sinners and tax collectors, and they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?” 17 When Jesus overheard this remark, he said, “It is not the healthy who need a physician, but rather those who are sick. I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.”

- Mark 2:13 Lake: Tiberias.
- Mark 2:14 Levi: another name of Matthew (Jews often had two names). The taxes in question were collected on goods that entered or left the city. The system was established by the Romans, but the collection of taxes and duties was handed over to private organizations whose employees were not infrequently corrupt. See also note on Mt 5:46.
- Mark 2:15 His: i.e., Levi’s (see Lk 5:29). Sinners: those who were ostentatiously wicked and those who did not follow the Law as interpreted by the scribes. The term was customarily applied to collaborators, robbers, adulterers, and the like.

13 And he went forth again by the sea side; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.
14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom, and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.
15 And it came to pass, that, as Jesus sat at meat in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many, and they followed him.
16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
17 When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

13 Senere gik Jesus igen ud langs Galilæasøen. En masse mennesker fulgte i hælene på ham, og han underviste dem, mens han gik. 14 Da han passerede toldstedet, så han Levi, Alfæus’ søn, sidde der. „Kom med mig!” sagde Jesus til ham. Straks rejste Levi sig og fulgte med ham som en af hans disciple.
15 Derefter blev Jesus og disciplene indbudt til spisning i Levis hjem. Mange skatteopkrævere og nogle af de andre „syndere”, som til stadighed fulgte Jesus, blev også inviteret. 16 Da nu de skriftlærde blandt farisæerne så Jesus i det selskab, sagde de til hans disciple: „Hvordan kan han få sig selv til at spise sammen med den slags syndige mennesker?”
17 Jesus hørte det og svarede: „Raske mennesker har ikke brug for lægehjælp, men det har de syge. Jeg er kommet for at invitere syndere til at vende om til Gud. Det mener de ‚frelste’ jo ikke, at de har brug for!”
