Jesús sana a un paralítico(A)
2 Después de algunos días, Jesús entró otra vez en Capernaúm. Cuando se supo que estaba en casa, 2 inmediatamente se juntaron muchos, de manera que ya no cabían ni aun a la puerta; y les predicaba la palabra. 3 Entonces vinieron a él unos trayendo a un paralítico, que era cargado por cuatro. 4 Y como no podían acercarse a él a causa de la multitud, quitaron parte del techo de donde él estaba y, a través de la abertura, bajaron la camilla en que yacía el paralítico. 5 Al ver Jesús la fe de ellos, dijo al paralítico:
—Hijo, tus pecados te son perdonados.
6 Estaban allí sentados algunos de los escribas, los cuales pensaban para sí: 7 «¿Por qué habla éste de ese modo? Blasfemias dice. ¿Quién puede perdonar pecados, sino sólo Dios?»
8 Y conociendo luego Jesús en su espíritu que pensaban de esta manera dentro de sí mismos, les preguntó:
—¿Por qué pensáis así? 9 ¿Qué es más fácil, decir al paralítico: “Tus pecados te son perdonados”, o decirle: “Levántate, toma tu camilla y anda”? 10 Pues para que sepáis que el Hijo del hombre tiene potestad en la tierra para perdonar pecados —dijo al paralítico—: 11 A ti te digo: Levántate, toma tu camilla y vete a tu casa.
12 Entonces él se levantó y, tomando su camilla, salió delante de todos, de manera que todos se asombraron y glorificaron a Dios, diciendo:
—Nunca hemos visto tal cosa.
Llamamiento de Leví(B)
13 Después volvió a la orilla del mar; y toda la gente venía a él, y les enseñaba. 14 Al pasar, vio a Leví hijo de Alfeo sentado al banco de los tributos públicos, y le dijo:
—Sígueme.
Y levantándose, lo siguió.
15 Aconteció que estando Jesús a la mesa en casa de él, muchos publicanos y pecadores estaban también a la mesa juntamente con Jesús y sus discípulos, porque eran muchos los que lo habían seguido. 16 Los escribas y los fariseos, viéndolo comer con los publicanos y con los pecadores, dijeron a los discípulos:
—¿Qué es esto, que él come y bebe con los publicanos y pecadores?
17 Al oír esto Jesús, les dijo:
—Los sanos no tienen necesidad de médico, sino los enfermos. No he venido a llamar a justos, sino a pecadores.
La pregunta sobre el ayuno(C)
18 Los discípulos de Juan y los de los fariseos estaban ayunando. Entonces fueron y le preguntaron:
—¿Por qué los discípulos de Juan y los de los fariseos ayunan, y tus discípulos no ayunan?
19 Jesús les dijo:
—¿Acaso pueden ayunar los que están de bodas mientras está con ellos el esposo? Entre tanto que tienen consigo al esposo, no pueden ayunar. 20 Pero vendrán días cuando el esposo les será quitado, y entonces, en aquellos días, ayunarán.
21 »Nadie pone remiendo de paño nuevo en vestido viejo; de otra manera, el mismo remiendo nuevo tira de lo viejo y se hace peor la rotura. 22 Y nadie echa vino nuevo en odres viejos; de otra manera, el vino nuevo rompe los odres, el vino se derrama y los odres se pierden; pero el vino nuevo en odres nuevos se ha de echar.
Los discípulos arrancan espigas en sábado(D)
23 Aconteció que al pasar él por los sembrados un sábado, sus discípulos, mientras andaban, comenzaron a arrancar espigas. 24 Entonces los fariseos le dijeron:
—Mira, ¿por qué hacen en sábado lo que no es lícito?
25 Pero él les dijo:
—¿Nunca leísteis lo que hizo David cuando tuvo necesidad y sintió hambre, él y los que con él estaban; 26 cómo entró en la casa de Dios, siendo Abiatar sumo sacerdote, y comió los panes de la proposición, de los cuales no es lícito comer sino a los sacerdotes, y aun dio a los que con él estaban?
27 También les dijo:
—El sábado fue hecho por causa del hombre, y no el hombre por causa del sábado. 28 Por tanto, el Hijo del hombre es Señor aun del sábado.

Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man(A)
2 A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. 2 They gathered in such large numbers(B) that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. 3 Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man,(C) carried by four of them. 4 Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”(D)
6 Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, 7 “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”(E)
8 Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? 9 Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man(F) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God,(G) saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”(H)
Jesus Calls Levi and Eats With Sinners(I)
13 Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him,(J) and he began to teach them. 14 As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,”(K) Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.
15 While Jesus was having dinner at Levi’s house, many tax collectors and sinners were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. 16 When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees(L) saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: “Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”(M)
17 On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”(N)
Jesus Questioned About Fasting(O)
18 Now John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting.(P) Some people came and asked Jesus, “How is it that John’s disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?”
19 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. 20 But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them,(Q) and on that day they will fast.
21 “No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. Otherwise, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. 22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins.”
Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath(R)(S)
23 One Sabbath Jesus was going through the grainfields, and as his disciples walked along, they began to pick some heads of grain.(T) 24 The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”(U)
25 He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need? 26 In the days of Abiathar the high priest,(V) he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat.(W) And he also gave some to his companions.”(X)
27 Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man,(Y) not man for the Sabbath.(Z) 28 So the Son of Man(AA) is Lord even of the Sabbath.”

5 Vinieron al otro lado del mar, a la región de los gadarenos. 2 Cuando salió él de la barca, en seguida vino a su encuentro, de los sepulcros, un hombre con un espíritu impuro 3 que habitaba en los sepulcros y nadie podía atarlo, ni aun con cadenas. 4 Muchas veces había sido atado con grillos y cadenas, pero las cadenas habían sido hechas pedazos por él, y desmenuzados los grillos. Nadie lo podía dominar. 5 Y siempre, de día y de noche, andaba gritando en los montes y en los sepulcros, e hiriéndose con piedras. 6 Cuando vio, pues, a Jesús de lejos, corrió y se arrodilló ante él. 7 Y clamando a gran voz, dijo:
—¿Qué tienes conmigo, Jesús, Hijo del Dios Altísimo? ¡Te conjuro por Dios que no me atormentes!
8 (Porque le decía: «Sal de este hombre, espíritu impuro.»)
9 Jesús le preguntó:
—¿Cómo te llamas?
Y respondió diciendo:
—Legión me llamo, porque somos muchos.
10 Y le rogaba mucho que no los enviara fuera de aquella región. 11 Estaba allí cerca del monte un gran hato de cerdos paciendo. 12 Y le rogaron todos los demonios, diciendo:
—Envíanos a los cerdos para que entremos en ellos.
13 Jesús, de inmediato, les dio permiso. Y saliendo aquellos espíritus impuros, entraron en los cerdos, los cuales eran como dos mil. El hato se precipitó al mar por un despeñadero, y en el mar se ahogaron.
14 Los que cuidaban los cerdos huyeron y dieron aviso en la ciudad y en los campos. Y la gente salió a ver qué era aquello que había sucedido. 15 Llegaron a Jesús y vieron al que había estado atormentado por el demonio, el que había tenido la legión, sentado, vestido y en su juicio cabal; y tuvieron miedo. 16 Y los que lo habían visto les contaron lo que le había acontecido al que había tenido el demonio, y lo de los cerdos. 17 Entonces comenzaron a rogarle que se fuera de sus contornos.
18 Al entrar él en la barca, el que había estado endemoniado le rogaba que lo dejara quedarse con él. 19 Pero Jesús no se lo permitió, sino que le dijo:
—Vete a tu casa, a los tuyos, y cuéntales cuán grandes cosas el Señor ha hecho contigo y cómo ha tenido misericordia de ti. 20 Él se fue y comenzó a publicar en Decápolis cuán grandes cosas había hecho Jesús con él; y todos se maravillaban.
La hija de Jairo, y la mujer con flujo de sangre(B)
21 Al pasar otra vez Jesús en una barca a la otra orilla, se reunió a su alrededor una gran multitud; y él estaba junto al mar. 22 Y vino un alto dignatario de la sinagoga, llamado Jairo. Al verlo, se postró a sus pies, 23 y le rogaba mucho, diciendo:
—Mi hija está agonizando; ven y pon las manos sobre ella para que sea salva, y viva.
24 Fue, pues, con él, y lo seguía una gran multitud, y lo apretaban. 25 Pero una mujer que desde hacía doce años padecía de flujo de sangre, 26 y había sufrido mucho a manos de muchos médicos, y había gastado todo lo que tenía y de nada le había servido, antes le iba peor, 27 cuando oyó hablar de Jesús se acercó por detrás entre la multitud y tocó su manto, 28 porque decía: «Si toco tan sólo su manto, seré salva.» 29 Inmediatamente la fuente de su sangre se secó, y sintió en el cuerpo que estaba sana de su azote. 30 Luego Jesús, conociendo en sí mismo el poder que había salido de él, volviéndose a la multitud, preguntó:
—¿Quién ha tocado mis vestidos?
31 Sus discípulos le dijeron:
—Ves que la multitud te aprieta, y preguntas: “¿Quién me ha tocado?”
32 Pero él miraba alrededor para ver quién lo había hecho. 33 Entonces la mujer, temiendo y temblando, sabiendo lo que en ella había sido hecho, vino y se postró delante de él y le dijo toda la verdad.
34 Él le dijo:
—Hija, tu fe te ha salvado. Vete en paz y queda sana de tu enfermedad.
35 Mientras él aún hablaba, vinieron de casa del alto dignatario de la sinagoga, diciendo:
—Tu hija ha muerto, ¿para qué molestas más al Maestro?
36 Pero Jesús, luego que oyó lo que se decía, dijo al alto dignatario de la sinagoga:
—No temas, cree solamente.
37 Y no permitió que lo siguiera nadie sino Pedro, Jacobo y Juan, hermano de Jacobo. 38 Vino a casa del alto dignatario de la sinagoga, y vio el alboroto y a los que lloraban y lamentaban mucho. 39 Entró y les dijo:
—¿Por qué alborotáis y lloráis? La niña no está muerta, sino dormida.
40 Y se burlaban de él. Pero él, echando fuera a todos, tomó al padre y a la madre de la niña, y a los que estaban con él, y entró donde estaba la niña. 41 Tomó la mano de la niña y le dijo:
—¡Talita cumi! (que significa: “Niña, a ti te digo, levántate”).
42 Inmediatamente la niña se levantó y andaba, pues tenía doce años. Y la gente se llenó de asombro. 43 Pero él les insistió en que nadie lo supiera, y dijo que dieran de comer a la niña.

Jesus Restores a Demon-Possessed Man(A)(B)
5 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.[a] 2 When Jesus got out of the boat,(C) a man with an impure spirit(D) came from the tombs to meet him. 3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain. 4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him. 5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.
6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. 7 He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me,(E) Jesus, Son of the Most High God?(F) In God’s name don’t torture me!” 8 For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!”
9 Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“My name is Legion,”(G) he replied, “for we are many.” 10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.
11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside. 12 The demons begged Jesus, “Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them.” 13 He gave them permission, and the impure spirits came out and went into the pigs. The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.
14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened. 15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion(H) of demons,(I) sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed man—and told about the pigs as well. 17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.
18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them(J) how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis[b](K) how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.
Jesus Raises a Dead Girl and Heals a Sick Woman(L)
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake,(M) a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake.(N) 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders,(O) named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on(P) her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.
A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding(Q) for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes,(R) I will be healed.” 29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.(S)
30 At once Jesus realized that power(T) had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”
31 “You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”
32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you.(U) Go in peace(V) and be freed from your suffering.”
35 While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader.(W) “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”
36 Overhearing[c] what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
37 He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.(X) 38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,(Y) Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.”(Z) 40 But they laughed at him.
After he put them all out, he took the child’s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was. 41 He took her by the hand(AA) and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”).(AB) 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished. 43 He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this,(AC) and told them to give her something to eat.
