⁷and upon learning that he came under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

Jesus before Herod.^[a] ⁸Herod was delighted when he saw Jesus, for he had heard about him and had been hoping for some time to see him and perhaps to witness him perform some sign. ⁹He questioned him at length, but Jesus gave him no reply.

¹⁰The chief priests and the scribes meanwhile were present, and they vehemently made accusations against him. ¹¹Herod and his soldiers treated him with contempt and mocked him. Then Herod had him clothed in an elegant robe and sent him back to Pilate. ¹²That very day Herod and Pilate became friends, although previously they had been enemies.

⁷And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.

⁸And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.

⁹Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

¹⁰And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.

¹¹And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.

¹²And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

⁷When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod,^(A) who was also in Jerusalem at that time.

⁸When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him.^(B) From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. ⁹He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer.^(C) ¹⁰The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. ¹¹Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe,^(D) they sent him back to Pilate. ¹²That day Herod and Pilate became friends^(E)—before this they had been enemies.
