¹⁶ Do not go about spreading slander^(A) among your people; do not jeopardize^[a] your neighbor’s life; I am the Lord.

³⁶ I tell you that on the day of judgment^(A) people will have to account^(B) for every careless^[a] word they speak.^[b]

⁸ And why not say, just as some people slanderously claim we say, “Let us do what is evil so that good may come”?^(A) Their condemnation is deserved!

⁴ For if a person comes and preaches another Jesus,^(A) whom we did not preach, or you receive a different spirit,^(B) which you had not received, or a different gospel,^(C) which you had not accepted, you put up with it splendidly!

The Wisdom from Above

¹³ Who among you is wise and understanding? By his good conduct he should show that his works are done in the gentleness that comes from wisdom.^{(A) 14} But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, don’t boast and deny the truth.^{(B) 15} Such wisdom does not come down from above but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.^(C)
