Bildad Speaks: No One Is Righteous to God

25 Then Bildad from Shuah replied to Job,

“Authority and terror belong to God.
He establishes peace in his high places.
Is there any limit to the number of his troops?
Is there anyone on whom his light does not rise?
How can a person be righteous to El?
How can anyone born of a woman be pure?
        Even the moon isn’t bright,
and the stars aren’t pure in his sight.
How much less pure is a mortal—who is only a maggot—
a descendant of Adam—who is only a worm!”

Bildad Answers Job

25 Then Bildad from Shuah answered:

“God is the ruler.
He makes people fear and respect him.
He keeps peace in his kingdom above.
No one can count his stars.[a]
His sun rises on all people.
How can anyone claim to be right before God?
No human being[b] can really be pure.
In God’s eyes even the moon is not pure and bright;
even the stars are not pure.
People are much less pure.
They are like maggots, as worthless as worms!”
