10 「イスラエルの繁栄ぶりの、なんとすばらしいことか。
まるで実を豊かに結んだぶどうの木のようだ。
ところが、わたしが富を増やせば増やすほど、
異教の神々の祭壇に多くの物が供えられる。
収穫を豊かにすればするほど、
それだけ多くの美しい彫像や偶像が立てられる。
2 イスラエルの民の心は神への偽りで満ちている。
彼らには罪があり、刑罰を受けなければならない。
神は彼らの作った異教の偶像を砕き、
その祭壇を打ち壊す。」
3 その時、彼らは言います。
「私たちが主を捨てたので、
主は王を取り去ってしまった。
でも、だからどうだというのだ。
王などいらない。」
4 彼らは守る気もないのに約束をします。
そのため、畑のうねの間に生える毒草のように、
さばきが彼らの間に生え出るのです。
5 サマリヤの住民は、
ベテ・アベンの子牛像が傷つけられないだろうかと
震えおののきます。
祭司と民も、
打ち砕かれた神々の失われた名誉のために嘆きます。
6 この子牛の神の像は、
彼らがアッシリヤに奴隷となって行く時、
そこの大王への贈り物としていっしょに運ばれます。
こんな偶像に信頼していたのかと
エフライムはあざけられ、イスラエルは恥をかきます。
7 サマリヤの王は、
大海の波間にただよう木切れのように消えうせます。
8 イスラエルが罪を犯した、
ベテルにあるアベンの祭壇はくずれ落ち、
いばらやあざみがその回りに生い茂ります。
人々は山や丘に、
「私たちの上に落ちかかり、押しつぶせ」と叫ぶのです。
9 「ああ、イスラエルよ。
ギブアでのあの恐怖の夜以来、
ただ罪、罪、罪の連続だ。
あなたたちには全く進歩が見られない。
ギブアの者たちに戦いが襲いかかったのは当然のことだと思わないのか。
10 わたしはあなたたちの不従順に立ち向かう。
山のように積み上げられた罪を罰するために、
諸国の軍隊を集めてあなたたちを攻めさせる。
11 エフライムは麦打ち場で麦を踏むことに親しみ、
その楽な仕事を好む。
わたしはこれまで、
エフライムに重いくびきをかけたことはなかった。
そのか弱い首をいたわったのだ。
だが今、くびきをかけて馬鍬を引かせ、畑を耕させる。
気楽に過ごす時代は終わった。
12 正義という種をまけ。
そうすれば、わたしの愛という実を刈り取る。
堅くなった心を耕せ。
今は主を求める時だ。
主は来て、救いを雨のように注いでくださる。
13 ところが、あなたたちは悪を耕し、
はびこる罪という実を育ててきた。
巨大な軍事力があれば国は安全だと信じたので、
そのような偽りに信頼した報いを、十分に受けたのだ。
14 それで、戦争の恐怖が民の中に起こり、
シャレマンがベテ・アレベルを破壊したように、
あなたたちの要塞はみなくずされる。
母親も子どもも、その場で一気に殺される。
15 イスラエルの民よ。
それもみな、
あなたたちの罪悪があまりにもひどいからだ。
ある朝、イスラエルの王は滅ぼされる。
イスラエルへの神の愛
11 イスラエルが子どものころ、
わたしは彼を息子のように愛し、
エジプトから連れ出した。
2 それなのに、呼べば呼ぶほど彼はますます反逆し、
バアルにいけにえをささげ、偶像に香をたいた。
3 わたしは、彼が赤ん坊の時から面倒を見、
歩くことを教え、腕に抱いた。
だが彼は、彼を育てたのはこのわたしであることを、
知りもしなければ心にかけようともしない。
4 人が大切な牛を引いて歩くように、
わたしはイスラエルを愛の綱で導いた。
食べる時には、くつわをゆるめ、
わたし自身が身をかがめて食べさせてやった。
5 しかし、わたしの民は
エジプトやアッシリヤに帰る。
わたしのところへ帰りたくないからだ。
6 イスラエルの町々は戦争のうずに巻き込まれ、
敵は門を突き破り、彼らを要塞に閉じ込める。
7 わたしの民が、わたしを離れると決心したからだ。
わたしは彼らが奴隷となると宣告した。
解放してくれる者はだれもいない。
8 ああ、わたしのエフライム。
どうして、あなたを捨て去ることができよう。
どうして見放せよう。
どうして、アデマやツェボイム
（ソドム、ゴモラと共に滅びた町）のように
見捨てることができよう。
わたしの心は叫んでいる。
何としても、あなたたちを助けたい。
9 燃えるような怒りがあなたたちを罰するよう命じるが、
わたしは罰しない。
エフライムを滅ぼすのは、これが最後だ。
わたしは神であって、人ではないからだ。
わたしはあなたたちのうちに住む聖なる者であって、
滅ぼすために来たのではない。
10 人々は、主のあとについて歩くようになる。
わたしはイスラエルの敵に向かって
ライオンのようにほえ、
わたしの民は西方から震えおののきながら帰って来る。
11 鳥の群れのようにエジプトから、
鳩のようにアッシリヤからやって来る。
こうしてわたしは、彼らを再び家に住まわせる。
これは主からの約束である。」
イスラエルの罪
12 イスラエルは偽りと欺きで私を取り囲みますが、
ユダはまだ主に信頼し、聖なる方に忠実です。
12 イスラエルは風を追い、
つむじ風の番をしています。
全く危険な遊びです。
エジプトやアッシリヤに贈り物をし、援助を求めますが、そのお返しは価値のない約束です。
2 けれども、主はユダを告訴しようとしています。
ヤコブはその行いのゆえに、公正に罰せられます。
3 ヤコブは生まれる時に兄弟と争い、
大人になってからは神とさえ戦ったのです。
4 まさに、御使いと格闘して勝ちました。
彼は御使いに、祝福してくれるようにと
泣いて頼みました。
ベテルでは、
神と顔と顔を合わせるようにして出会い、
神は彼に語りかけました。
5 まことに、主は天の軍勢の神であり、
主と呼ばれるにふさわしい方です。
6 さあ、神に立ち返り、
愛と公正の原理に立ちなさい。
いつも、あなたの神に期待しなさい。
7 ところが私の同胞は、不正なはかりで物を売る、
ずる賢い商人のようです。
だますことが好きなのです。
8 エフライムは自慢しています。
「私はこんなに金持ちになった。
すべて自分でもうけたのだ。」
しかし、富に罪を償うことはできません。
9 「わたしは、あなたをエジプトの奴隷生活から
救い出した主、同じ神だ。
わたしは、毎年の仮庵の祭りの時のように、
あなたを再び天幕（テント）に住まわせる。
10 わたしは預言者を遣わし、
多くの幻やたとえや夢で警告した。」
11 それなのに、ギルガルの罪は相も変わらず、
公然と行われています。
畑のうねのように何列も祭壇が築かれ、
偶像へのいけにえのために使われています。
ギルアデも、偶像を拝む愚か者であふれています。
12 ヤコブはアラム（シリヤ）へ逃げ、
羊の番をして妻をめとりました。
13 それから主はその民をエジプトから連れ出すために
一人の預言者を立て、
彼らを導き、守るようにさせました。
14 それなのに、エフライムは主をひどく怒らせました。
その罪の支払いとして、主は死の宣告を下すのです。

10 Israel was a spreading vine;(A)
he brought forth fruit for himself.
As his fruit increased,
he built more altars;(B)
as his land prospered,(C)
he adorned his sacred stones.(D)
2 Their heart is deceitful,(E)
and now they must bear their guilt.(F)
The Lord will demolish their altars(G)
and destroy their sacred stones.(H)
3 Then they will say, “We have no king
because we did not revere the Lord.
But even if we had a king,
what could he do for us?”
4 They make many promises,
take false oaths(I)
and make agreements;(J)
therefore lawsuits spring up
like poisonous weeds(K) in a plowed field.
5 The people who live in Samaria fear
for the calf-idol(L) of Beth Aven.[a](M)
Its people will mourn over it,
and so will its idolatrous priests,(N)
those who had rejoiced over its splendor,
because it is taken from them into exile.(O)
6 It will be carried to Assyria(P)
as tribute(Q) for the great king.(R)
Ephraim will be disgraced;(S)
Israel will be ashamed(T) of its foreign alliances.
7 Samaria’s king will be destroyed,(U)
swept away like a twig on the surface of the waters.
8 The high places(V) of wickedness[b](W) will be destroyed—
it is the sin of Israel.
Thorns(X) and thistles will grow up
and cover their altars.(Y)
Then they will say to the mountains, “Cover us!”(Z)
and to the hills, “Fall on us!”(AA)
9 “Since the days of Gibeah,(AB) you have sinned,(AC) Israel,
and there you have remained.[c]
Will not war again overtake
the evildoers in Gibeah?
10 When I please, I will punish(AD) them;
nations will be gathered against them
to put them in bonds for their double sin.
11 Ephraim is a trained heifer
that loves to thresh;
so I will put a yoke(AE)
on her fair neck.
I will drive Ephraim,
Judah must plow,
and Jacob must break up the ground.
12 Sow(AF) righteousness(AG) for yourselves,
reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;(AH)
for it is time to seek(AI) the Lord,
until he comes
and showers his righteousness(AJ) on you.
13 But you have planted wickedness,
you have reaped evil,(AK)
you have eaten the fruit of deception.(AL)
Because you have depended on your own strength
and on your many warriors,(AM)
14 the roar of battle will rise against your people,
so that all your fortresses will be devastated(AN)—
as Shalman(AO) devastated Beth Arbel on the day of battle,
when mothers were dashed to the ground with their children.(AP)
15 So will it happen to you, Bethel,
because your wickedness is great.
When that day dawns,
the king of Israel will be completely destroyed.(AQ)
God’s Love for Israel
11 “When Israel was a child,(AR) I loved(AS) him,
and out of Egypt I called my son.(AT)
2 But the more they were called,
the more they went away from me.[d](AU)
They sacrificed to the Baals(AV)
and they burned incense to images.(AW)
3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
taking them by the arms;(AX)
but they did not realize
it was I who healed(AY) them.
4 I led them with cords of human kindness,
with ties of love.(AZ)
To them I was like one who lifts
a little child to the cheek,
and I bent down to feed(BA) them.(BB)
5 “Will they not return to Egypt(BC)
and will not Assyria(BD) rule over them
because they refuse to repent?(BE)
6 A sword(BF) will flash in their cities;
it will devour(BG) their false prophets
and put an end to their plans.
7 My people are determined to turn(BH) from me.(BI)
Even though they call me God Most High,
I will by no means exalt them.
8 “How can I give you up,(BJ) Ephraim?(BK)
How can I hand you over, Israel?
How can I treat you like Admah?
How can I make you like Zeboyim?(BL)
My heart is changed within me;
all my compassion(BM) is aroused.(BN)
9 I will not carry out my fierce anger,(BO)
nor will I devastate(BP) Ephraim again.
For I am God, and not a man(BQ)—
the Holy One(BR) among you.
I will not come against their cities.
10 They will follow the Lord;
he will roar(BS) like a lion.(BT)
When he roars,
his children will come trembling(BU) from the west.(BV)
11 They will come from Egypt,
trembling like sparrows,
from Assyria,(BW) fluttering like doves.(BX)
I will settle them in their homes,”(BY)
declares the Lord.
Israel’s Sin
12 Ephraim has surrounded me with lies,(BZ)
Israel with deceit.
And Judah is unruly against God,
even against the faithful(CA) Holy One.[e](CB)
12 [f]1 Ephraim(CC) feeds on the wind;(CD)
he pursues the east wind all day
and multiplies lies and violence.(CE)
He makes a treaty with Assyria(CF)
and sends olive oil to Egypt.(CG)
2 The Lord has a charge(CH) to bring against Judah;(CI)
he will punish(CJ) Jacob[g] according to his ways
and repay him according to his deeds.(CK)
3 In the womb he grasped his brother’s heel;(CL)
as a man he struggled(CM) with God.
4 He struggled with the angel and overcame him;
he wept and begged for his favor.
He found him at Bethel(CN)
and talked with him there—
5 the Lord God Almighty,
the Lord is his name!(CO)
6 But you must return(CP) to your God;
maintain love and justice,(CQ)
and wait for your God always.(CR)
7 The merchant uses dishonest scales(CS)
and loves to defraud.
8 Ephraim boasts,(CT)
“I am very rich; I have become wealthy.(CU)
With all my wealth they will not find in me
any iniquity or sin.”
9 “I have been the Lord your God
ever since you came out of Egypt;(CV)
I will make you live in tents(CW) again,
as in the days of your appointed festivals.
10 I spoke to the prophets,
gave them many visions
and told parables(CX) through them.”(CY)
11 Is Gilead wicked?(CZ)
Its people are worthless!
Do they sacrifice bulls in Gilgal?(DA)
Their altars will be like piles of stones
on a plowed field.(DB)
12 Jacob fled to the country of Aram[h];(DC)
Israel served to get a wife,
and to pay for her he tended sheep.(DD)
13 The Lord used a prophet to bring Israel up from Egypt,(DE)
by a prophet he cared for him.(DF)
14 But Ephraim has aroused his bitter anger;
his Lord will leave on him the guilt of his bloodshed(DG)
and will repay him for his contempt.(DH)

73 神はイスラエルに対して、
なんと恵み深いことでしょう。
心のきよい人に対して、その恵みは行き渡ります。
2 しかし私は、崖っぷちに限りなく近づき、
危うく足をすべらせて
落ちてしまいそうになりました。
3 傲慢な者や悪党が栄えるのを、
ねたましく思ったからです。
4 彼らの人生には苦しみもなく、
何でもうまくいくのです。
顔はつややかで、体は肥えています。
5 彼らは、他の人のように悩むこともなく、深刻な問題で
頭をかかえ込んだりすることもありません。
6 そのため、きらきら光る首飾りのダイヤのように
高慢をちらつかせ、
残忍の糸で織ったかのような服を着ています。
7 この金持ちたちは、
欲しいものが何でも手に入るのです。
8 神をあざけり、神を信じる人々を脅す、
その口のきき方は、なんと横柄なことでしょう。
9 彼らは天を向こうに回していばり、
大手を振って地上を闊歩します。
10 その影響は神を信じる人々にもまともに及び、
多くの混乱ととまどいをもたらしました。
11 彼らは言います。
「いったい神は、地上でどんなことが起こっているか、
ご存じなのだろうか。
12 見るがいい。あのいばりくさった連中を。
努力もせず、楽な人生を送っている。
しかも、財産は増えていくのだ。」
13 私が今までしてきたことは、むだだったのでしょうか。
きよくあろうと苦しんだ日々は、何だったのでしょう。
14 神に従う生活から得たものは、
苦しみと災いだけです。
しかも、それは、くる日もくる日も、
朝から晩まで私につきまとうのです。
15 もし、本気でこう口にしたら、
私は神の民を裏切ることになったでしょう。
16 主を憎む者どもがこんなに栄えている現実を
どう説明したらいいのでしょう。
17 ところが、ある日、神の聖所で瞑想していた時、
これらの悪者どもの行き着く先を悟ったのです。
18 あの者たちは、
なんとすべりやすい道を歩いていることでしょう。
突然、神から崖っぷちに追いやられて、
足をすべらせ、滅びの底に落ちて行くのです。
19 こうして、その幸福も、あっけなく幕切れとなり、
永遠の恐怖にのみ込まれるのです。
20 彼らの今の暮らしぶりも、つかの間の夢にすぎません。
夢から現実の世界に引き戻される人のように、
いつかは真実を突きつけられるのです。
21 こう悟った時、私は動揺しました。
22 自分がどれほど愚かで無知であったかを
思い知らされたのです。
ああ神よ。私は獣のように見えたことでしょう。
23 しかし、それでもあなたは私を愛し、
私の右手をしっかりつかんでくださっています。
24 一生涯、神は知恵と助言を与えて
私を導いてくださることでしょう。
そしてついに、私は栄光の天へ入れられるのです。
25 天でも、あなた以外に私の神はなく、
地上でも、慕わしいお方はあなたひとりです。
26 やがて私の体は衰え、気力も弱ります。
しかし神は、いつまでも変わらず、
心の支えとなってくださいます。
永久に私の神でいてくださいます。
27 神をあがめない者は滅びます。
神は、ほかの神々に仕える者を滅ぼされるからです。
28 しかしこの私は、
できる限り神のお近くにいましょう。
神にお従いするのです。
会う人ごとに、

A psalm of Asaph.
1 Surely God is good to Israel,
to those who are pure in heart.(A)
2 But as for me, my feet had almost slipped;(B)
I had nearly lost my foothold.(C)
3 For I envied(D) the arrogant
when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.(E)
4 They have no struggles;
their bodies are healthy and strong.[a]
5 They are free(F) from common human burdens;
they are not plagued by human ills.
6 Therefore pride(G) is their necklace;(H)
they clothe themselves with violence.(I)
7 From their callous hearts(J) comes iniquity[b];
their evil imaginations have no limits.
8 They scoff, and speak with malice;(K)
with arrogance(L) they threaten oppression.(M)
9 Their mouths lay claim to heaven,
and their tongues take possession of the earth.
10 Therefore their people turn to them
and drink up waters in abundance.[c]
11 They say, “How would God know?
Does the Most High know anything?”
13 Surely in vain(P) I have kept my heart pure
and have washed my hands in innocence.(Q)
14 All day long I have been afflicted,(R)
and every morning brings new punishments.
15 If I had spoken out like that,
I would have betrayed your children.
16 When I tried to understand(S) all this,
it troubled me deeply
17 till I entered the sanctuary(T) of God;
then I understood their final destiny.(U)
18 Surely you place them on slippery ground;(V)
you cast them down to ruin.(W)
19 How suddenly(X) are they destroyed,
completely swept away(Y) by terrors!
20 They are like a dream(Z) when one awakes;(AA)
when you arise, Lord,
you will despise them as fantasies.(AB)
21 When my heart was grieved
and my spirit embittered,
22 I was senseless(AC) and ignorant;
I was a brute beast(AD) before you.
23 Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.(AE)
24 You guide(AF) me with your counsel,(AG)
and afterward you will take me into glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but you?(AH)
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.(AI)
26 My flesh and my heart(AJ) may fail,(AK)
but God is the strength(AL) of my heart
and my portion(AM) forever.

4 とはいえ、神の安息に入れるという約束は今も有効なのですから、あなたがたの中で万が一にも入りそこなう者が出ないように、心しようではありませんか。 2 モーセの時代の人たちと同様、私たちにも、救いをもたらす福音が伝えられているからです。ところが、モーセの時代の人たちには、そのことばは何の役にも立ちませんでした。彼らは聞いても信じなかったからです。 3 安息に入れるのは、神を信じる私たちだけです。
神は、「わたしは怒りをもって誓う。わたしを信じない者を決して入らせない」（詩篇95・11）とも言われました。 4 私たちは、神が準備万端ととのえて、待っておられたのを知っています。「神は創造の七日目に、計画どおりにすべてをなし終えて休まれた」（創世2・2）とあります。 5 にもかかわらず、彼らは閉め出されてしまいました。ここでは、「彼らを決してわたしの安息に入れない」と言われているのです。 6 しかし、安息の地への約束はまだ有効であり、そこに入ることが許されている人がいます。それは、不従順のため、最初に与えられた機会を失った人たちではありません。 7 神は、新しい機会を与えてくださいました。それが今なのです。最初の人たちの失敗の後、長い年月が過ぎたころ、神はダビデ王を通してこのことを知らせてくださいました。「今日、語りかけられる神の声を聞いたなら、心をかたくなにしてはいけない」と。 8 ここでの新しい安息の地とは、ヨシュアに率いられて入ったカナンの地（現在のパレスチナ）ではありません。もしそうなら、ずっとあとになって、今日がそこに入る時だなどと言われるはずがないからです。 9 そういうわけで、完全な安息が今なお、神を信じる人たちに備えられているのです。
10 キリストは、もうすでにそこにお入りになりました。神が創造の働きを終えて休まれたように、キリストも任務を果たして、安息の中におられるのです。 11 ですから私たちも、この安息の地に入れるように最善を尽くしましょう。イスラエルの人たちが神に不従順であったために入りそこねたことを、肝に銘じようではありませんか。 12 神のことばは生きていて、力があります。それは鋭い刃のように切れ味がよく、心の奥深くに潜んでいる思いや欲望にまでメスを入れ、私たちの赤裸々な姿をさらけ出します。 13 神は、人がどこにいようと、すべての人の心を見抜かれるお方です。神に造られたもので、神の目から隠れおおせるものは一つもありません。今も生きて、すべてを見抜かれる神の前に、私たちは裸のままさらけ出されているのです。私たちはこの方に対して、自分のなしたすべてのことを弁明しなければなりません。
偉大な大祭司イエス
14 しかし、私たちを助けるために天にのぼられた偉大な大祭司、神の子イエスが味方になってくださるのですから、私たちの告白する信仰を決して失うことがないようにしましょう。 15 この大祭司は私たちと同じ試練に会われたので、人間の弱さをよく知っておられ、ただの一度も、誘惑に負けて罪を犯したことはありません。 16 ですから躊躇せず、神の御座に近づいてあわれみを受け、時にかなって与えられる恵みをいただこうではありませんか。

A Sabbath-Rest for the People of God
4 Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.(A) 2 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.[a](B) 3 Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said,
And yet his works have been finished since the creation of the world. 4 For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “On the seventh day God rested from all his works.”[c](D) 5 And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.”(E)
6 Therefore since it still remains for some to enter that rest, and since those who formerly had the good news proclaimed to them did not go in because of their disobedience,(F) 7 God again set a certain day, calling it “Today.” This he did when a long time later he spoke through David, as in the passage already quoted:
8 For if Joshua had given them rest,(H) God would not have spoken(I) later about another day. 9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works,[e](J) just as God did from his.(K) 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.(L)
12 For the word of God(M) is alive(N) and active.(O) Sharper than any double-edged sword,(P) it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.(Q) 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight.(R) Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest(S) who has ascended into heaven,[f](T) Jesus the Son of God,(U) let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.(V) 15 For we do not have a high priest(W) who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are(X)—yet he did not sin.(Y) 16 Let us then approach(Z) God’s throne of grace with confidence,(AA) so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
