Petrus en Johannes ter verantwoording geroepen
4 Terwijl zij nog tegen de mensen spraken, kwam de leider van de tempel samen met de priesters en Sadduceeën naar hen toe. 2 Zij waren woedend dat de apostelen het volk vertelden dat Jezus niet meer dood was en daarmee leerden dat er opstanding uit de dood bestaat. 3 Zij namen Petrus en Johannes gevangen tot de volgende morgen. 4 Maar ondanks dat geloofden veel mensen de apostelen. Daarmee nam het aantal gelovigen toe tot ongeveer vijfduizend.
5 De volgende morgen kwamen alle Joodse leiders in Jeruzalem in een extra vergadering bijeen. 6 Onder hen waren de hogepriester Annas, Kajafas, Johannes, Alexander en andere familieleden van de hogepriester. 7 Zij lieten Petrus en Johannes binnenbrengen en vroegen hun: ‘Door welke kracht of namens wie hebt u dit gedaan?’ 8 Petrus, die vervuld was van de Heilige Geest, antwoordde: 9 ‘Geachte leiders van Israël: als ik het goed begrijp, worden wij vandaag verhoord omdat wij iets voor een invalide man hebben gedaan, waardoor hij is genezen. 10 Nu, wat ik u en het hele volk van Israël moet zeggen, is dit: dat deze man hier gezond vóór u staat, komt door de naam en de macht van Jezus Christus uit Nazareth, die door u gekruisigd werd, maar door God weer levend is gemaakt. 11 Nu blijkt hoe de steen die door de bouwers was afgekeurd, juist tot de hoeksteen is geworden. 12 Er is bij niemand anders redding te vinden, Hij is de Enige, door wie de mensen gered kunnen worden.’
13 De Joodse leiders waren verbaasd dat Petrus en Johannes zich zo vrijmoedig verdedigden, hoewel zij toch mensen zonder opleiding waren. Zij herinnerden zich dat zij allebei veel met Jezus waren omgegaan. 14 Maar omdat de genezen man bij hen stond, konden zij niets tegen hen inbrengen. 15 Zij stuurden Petrus en Johannes de raadzaal uit en overlegden met elkaar: 16 ‘Wat moeten wij met deze mannen doen? Wij kunnen er niet omheen dat zij een groot wonder hebben gedaan. 17 Iedereen in Jeruzalem weet ervan. Om te voorkomen dat zij nog meer propaganda maken, moeten wij hun verbieden die naam nog verder te noemen, anders zullen zij streng gestraft worden.’ 18 Zij riepen de twee apostelen weer binnen en verboden hun ooit weer over Jezus te spreken. 19 Maar Petrus en Johannes antwoordden: ‘Wat vindt u, is het juist dat wij u in plaats van God gehoorzamen? 20 Wij kunnen gewoon niet zwijgen over wat wij hebben gezien en gehoord.’ 21 Na herhaalde dreigementen lieten de Joodse leiders hen gaan, want zij konden geen goede reden vinden om hen te straffen. Zij durfden hun niets aan te doen, omdat het volk God prees voor wat er was gebeurd: 22 een man van in de veertig die vanaf zijn geboorte verlamd was geweest, was genezen door een wonder!
23 Zodra zij vrij waren, gingen Petrus en Johannes naar hun vrienden en vertelden wat de Joodse leiders hadden gezegd. 24 Daarna baden zij volkomen eensgezind tot God: ‘Machtige Here, U hebt de hemel, de aarde en de zee gemaakt, met alles erop en erin. 25 Door de Heilige Geest hebt U uw dienaar, onze voorvader David, laten zeggen: “Wat zijn de ongelovige volken toch dwaas om tegen de Here op te staan! Het is onbegrijpelijk dat deze mensen proberen God te slim af te zijn! 26 De machthebbers van deze wereld hebben hun hoofden bijeen gestoken en de leiders spannen samen tegen de Here en zijn Gezalfde.”
27 Dat is nu precies wat hier in Jeruzalem gebeurt! Herodes en Pontius Pilatus hebben, samen met de volken van Israël en Rome, de handen ineengeslagen om te strijden tegen uw dienaar Jezus. 28 Daarmee doen zij wat U, in uw wijze macht, van tevoren had bepaald. 29 Kijk, Here, hoe zij dreigen! Geef uw knechten vrijmoedigheid om te zeggen wat U hun opdraagt. 30 Laat zien dat U achter ons staat, door mensen te genezen. Laten er wonderen en tekenen gebeuren wanneer wij namens uw dienaar Jezus optreden.’ 31 Terwijl zij dit aan God vroegen, begon het gebouw waar ze bijeen waren te schudden. Zij werden allemaal vol van de Heilige Geest en verkondigden vrijmoedig de boodschap van God.
32 Alle mensen die in Jezus geloofden, waren van harte eensgezind. Niemand zei dat zijn bezittingen van hem alleen waren, alles was gemeenschappelijk. 33 De apostelen verkondigden met grote overtuigingskracht dat de Here Jezus uit de dood was opgestaan, en Gods zegen rustte op hen allen. 34 Niemand van hen leed gebrek, want allen die land of huizen hadden, verkochten daar zo nu en dan iets van en gaven het geld aan de apostelen. 35 Die deelden uit aan ieder die iets nodig had. 36 Een van die mensen was Jozef, een Leviet van het eiland Cyprus. Hij werd door de apostelen Barnabas genoemd, wat betekent: ‘Zoon van de troost’. 37 Deze Jozef had een stuk land verkocht en het geld aan de apostelen gegeven.

4 彼得和约翰向百姓讲道的时候，祭司、圣殿护卫长和撒都该人赶来了。 2 因为彼得和约翰宣讲借着耶稣死人可以复活，他们非常恼怒， 3 下令拘捕二人，因天色已晚，就把他们扣押了一夜。 4 但有许多听道的人信了，男人的数目约有五千人。
5 第二天，官长、长老和律法教师都聚集在耶路撒冷， 6 大祭司亚那，以及该亚法、约翰、亚历山大和大祭司的许多亲族都在场。 7 他们令使徒站在当中，质问道：“你们凭什么权柄、以谁的名义这样做？”
8 那时彼得被圣灵充满，对他们说：“各位百姓的官长和长老啊， 9 如果因为那残疾的乞丐得到医治这件善事，你们今天来查问我们他是如何痊愈的， 10 那么，你们和所有以色列人都应当知道，他能健康地站在你们面前，全是靠拿撒勒人耶稣基督的名！你们把祂钉在十字架上，但上帝使祂从死里复活了。
11 “‘祂是你们工匠丢弃的石头，
已成了房角石。’
12 除祂以外，别无救主，因为普天之下没有赐下别的名我们可以靠着得救！”
13 在场的人看到彼得和约翰的胆量，又知道他们原是没有学问的平民百姓，都很惊奇。他们认出这些人跟随过耶稣， 14 又见那被医好的瘸子站在他们旁边，便无话可说， 15 只好暂时把他们押下去，然后彼此商量说： 16 “我们该怎样处置这两个人呢？整个耶路撒冷的居民都知道他们行了一个神迹，我们无法否认。 17 为了避免这件事传得更广，我们必须警告他们以后不许再对任何人传讲耶稣的事。”
18 于是，他们又把使徒传来，严令他们不许再奉耶稣的名讲论或传道。 19 但彼得和约翰答道：“要我们听从你们而不听从上帝，这在上帝看来合理吗？你们自己想想吧。 20 我们耳闻目睹的，不能不说！” 21 官长实在不知道如何惩治使徒，只好再三恐吓之后把他们放了，因为百姓都为这个神迹赞美上帝。 22 在这次神迹中蒙上帝医治的那个人已经四十多岁了。
同心祷告
23 彼得和约翰被释放之后，就去找其他信徒，把祭司长和长老的话都告诉大家。 24 大家听后，一同高声向上帝祷告说：“主啊，你创造了天地、海洋和其中的万物。 25 你借着圣灵感动你的仆人——我们的祖先大卫说，
“‘列国为何咆哮？
万民为何枉费心机？
26 世上的君王一同行动，官长聚集起来，
要抵挡主和祂所膏立的王。’
27 “果然如此，希律和本丢·彼拉多、外族人和以色列人都聚集在这城里，要对抗你膏立的圣子[a]耶稣， 28 然而他们所做的只不过是你凭自己的能力和旨意所预定的。 29 主啊，你看他们这样恐吓我们，求你帮助你的奴仆们坦然无惧地传你的道。 30 求你伸出手医治疾病，借着你圣子耶稣的名行神迹奇事。”
31 祷告完后，聚会的地方震动起来，他们都被圣灵充满，放胆传扬上帝的道。
共用一切
32 当时所有信徒都同心合意，共用所有的东西，没有人说他的财物只属于自己。 33 使徒充满能力，继续为主耶稣复活的事做见证，上帝也赐下极大的恩典给众人。 34 信徒都一无所缺，因为大家卖掉房屋田产，把所得的钱交给使徒， 35 照各人的需要分配给各人。
36 有个生在塞浦路斯的利未人名叫约瑟，使徒叫他巴拿巴，意思是劝慰者。 37 他卖掉自己的一块田，把卖得的钱交给了使徒。

The Apostles and the Jewish High Council
4 While Peter and John were speaking to the people, some Jewish leaders came up to them. There were some priests, the captain of the soldiers that guarded the Temple, and some Sadducees. 2 They were upset because of what Peter and John were teaching the people. By telling people about Jesus, the apostles were teaching that people will rise from death. 3 The Jewish leaders arrested Peter and John and put them in jail. It was already night, so they kept them in jail until the next day. 4 But many of the people who heard the apostles believed what they said. There were now about 5000 men in the group of believers.
5 The next day the Jewish rulers, the older Jewish leaders, and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. 6 Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander were there. Everyone from the high priest’s family was there. 7 They made Peter and John stand before all the people. They asked them over and over, “How did you make this crippled man well? What power did you use? By whose authority did you do this?”
8 Then Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit and said to them, “Rulers of the people and you older leaders, 9 are you questioning us today about what we did to help this crippled man? Are you asking us what made him well? 10 We want all of you and all the people of Israel to know that this man was made well by the power of Jesus Christ from Nazareth. You nailed Jesus to a cross, but God raised him from death. This man was crippled, but he is now well. He is able to stand here before you because of the power of Jesus! 11 Jesus is
‘the stone[a] that you builders thought was not important.
But this stone has become the cornerstone.’ (A)
12 Jesus is the only one who can save people. His name is the only power in the world that has been given to save anyone. We must be saved through him!”
13 The Jewish leaders understood that Peter and John had no special training or education. But they also saw that they were not afraid to speak. So the leaders were amazed. They also realized that Peter and John had been with Jesus. 14 They saw the crippled man standing there beside the apostles. They saw that he was healed, so they could say nothing against the apostles.
15 The Jewish leaders told them to leave the council meeting. Then the leaders talked to each other about what they should do. 16 They said, “What shall we do with these men? Everyone in Jerusalem knows about the miracle they did as a sign from God. It’s too obvious. We can’t say it didn’t happen. 17 But we must make them afraid to talk to anyone again using that name.[b] Then this problem will not spread among the people.”
18 So the Jewish leaders called Peter and John in again. They told the apostles not to say anything or to teach anything in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered them, “What do you think is right? What would God want? Should we obey you or God? 20 We cannot be quiet. We must tell people about what we have seen and heard.”
21-22 The Jewish leaders could not find a way to punish the apostles, because all the people were praising God for what had been done. This miracle was a sign from God. The man who was healed was more than 40 years old. So the Jewish leaders warned the apostles again and let them go free.
Peter and John Return to the Believers
23 Peter and John left the meeting of Jewish leaders and went to their own group. They told the group everything that the leading priests and the older Jewish leaders had said to them. 24 When the believers heard this, they all prayed to God with one purpose. They said, “Master, you are the one who made the sky, the earth, the sea, and everything in the world. 25 Our ancestor David was your servant. With the help of the Holy Spirit he wrote these words:
‘Why are the nations shouting?
Why are the people planning such useless things?
26 ‘The kings of the earth prepare themselves to fight,
and the rulers all come together against the Lord and against his Messiah.’ (B)
27 That’s what actually happened when Herod, Pontius Pilate, the other nations, and the people of Israel all came together against Jesus here in Jerusalem. He is your holy Servant, the one you made to be the Messiah. 28 These people who came together against Jesus made your plan happen. It was done because of your power and your will. 29 And now, Lord, listen to what they are saying. They are trying to make us afraid. We are your servants. Help us to say what you want us to say without fear. 30 Help us to be brave by showing us your power. Make sick people well. Cause miraculous signs and wonders to happen by the authority[c] of Jesus, your holy servant.”
31 After the believers prayed, the place where they were meeting shook. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they continued to speak God’s message without fear.
The Believers Share
32 The whole group of believers was united in their thinking and in what they wanted. None of them said that the things they had were their own. Instead, they shared everything. 33 With great power the apostles were making it known to everyone that the Lord Jesus was raised from death. And God blessed all the believers very much. 34 None of them could say they needed anything. Everyone who owned fields or houses sold them. They brought the money they got 35 and gave it to the apostles. Then everyone was given whatever they needed.
36 One of the believers was named Joseph. The apostles called him Barnabas, a name that means “one who encourages others.” He was a Levite born in Cyprus. 37 Joseph sold a field he owned. He brought the money and gave it to the apostles.

Peter and John Before the Sanhedrin
4 The priests and the captain of the temple guard(A) and the Sadducees(B) came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. 2 They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.(C) 3 They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail(D) until the next day. 4 But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew(E) to about five thousand.
5 The next day the rulers,(F) the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem. 6 Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas,(G) John, Alexander and others of the high priest’s family. 7 They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?”
8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit,(H) said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people!(I) 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame(J) and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,(K) whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead,(L) that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”(N)
13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John(O) and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men,(P) they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.(Q) 14 But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say. 15 So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin(R) and then conferred together. 16 “What are we going to do with these men?”(S) they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign,(T) and we cannot deny it. 17 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”
18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.(U) 19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him?(V) You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking(W) about what we have seen and heard.”(X)
21 After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people(Y) were praising God(Z) for what had happened. 22 For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old.
The Believers Pray
23 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God.(AA) “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.(AB) 25 You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David:(AC)
“‘Why do the nations rage
and the peoples plot in vain?
26 The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together
against the Lord
and against his anointed one.[b]’[c](AD)
27 Indeed Herod(AE) and Pontius Pilate(AF) met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus,(AG) whom you anointed. 28 They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.(AH) 29 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.(AI) 30 Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders(AJ) through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”(AK)
31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken.(AL) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit(AM) and spoke the word of God(AN) boldly.(AO)
The Believers Share Their Possessions
32 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.(AP) 33 With great power the apostles continued to testify(AQ) to the resurrection(AR) of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace(AS) was so powerfully at work in them all 34 that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them,(AT) brought the money from the sales 35 and put it at the apostles’ feet,(AU) and it was distributed to anyone who had need.(AV)
36 Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas(AW) (which means “son of encouragement”), 37 sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.(AX)
