20 Then, as they came out from Pharaoh, they met Moses and Aaron who stood there to meet them. 21 (A)And they said to them, “Let the Lord look on you and judge, because you have made [a]us abhorrent in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

Israel’s Deliverance Assured(B)

22 So Moses returned to the Lord and said, “Lord, why have You brought trouble on this people? Why is it You have sent me? 23 For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people; neither have You delivered Your people at all.”

God Renews His Promise to Israel

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh. For (C)with a strong hand he will let them go, and with a strong hand (D)he will drive them out of his land.”

And God spoke to Moses and said to him: “I am [b]the Lord. (E)I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as (F)God Almighty, but by My name (G)Lord[c] I was not known to them. (H)I have also [d]established My covenant with them, (I)to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their [e]pilgrimage, (J)in which they were [f]strangers. And (K)I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. Therefore say to the children of Israel: (L)‘I am the Lord; (M)I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will (N)rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with [g]an outstretched arm and with great judgments. I will (O)take you as My people, and (P)I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the Lord your God who brings you out (Q)from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land which I (R)swore[h] to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the Lord.’ ”

20 And they meet Moses and Aaron standing to meet them, in their coming out from Pharaoh,

21 and say unto them, `Jehovah look upon you, and judge, because ye have caused our fragrance to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants -- to give a sword into their hand to slay us.'

22 And Moses turneth back unto Jehovah, and saith, `Lord, why hast Thou done evil to this people? why [is] this? -- Thou hast sent me!

23 and since I have come unto Pharaoh, to speak in Thy name, he hath done evil to this people, and Thou hast not at all delivered Thy people.'

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Now dost thou see that which I do to Pharaoh, for with a strong hand he doth send them away, yea, with a strong hand he doth cast them out of his land.'

And God speaketh unto Moses, and saith unto him, `I [am] Jehovah,

and I appear unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, as God Almighty; as to My name Jehovah, I have not been known to them;

and also I have established My covenant with them, to give to them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, wherein they have sojourned;

and also I have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, whom the Egyptians are causing to serve, and I remember My covenant.

`Therefore say to the sons of Israel, I [am] Jehovah, and I have brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and have delivered you from their service, and have redeemed you by a stretched-out arm, and by great judgments,

and have taken you to Me for a people, and I have been to you for God, and ye have known that I [am] Jehovah your God, who is bringing you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians;

and I have brought you in unto the land which I have lifted up My hand to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, and have given it to you -- a possession; I [am] Jehovah.'

20 When they left Pharaoh’s presence, they met Moses and Aaron as they were [a]waiting for them. 21 And (A)they said to them, “(B)May the Lord look upon you and judge you, because you have (C)made [b]us repulsive in Pharaoh’s sight and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us!”

22 Then Moses returned to the Lord and said, “(D)Lord, why have You brought harm to this people? Why did You ever send me? 23 Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done harm to this people, (E)and You have not rescued Your people at all.”

God Promises Action

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh; for [c](F)under compulsion he will let them go, and [d]under compulsion he will drive them out of his land.”

God spoke further to Moses and said to him, “I am (G)the Lord; and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob as [e](H)God Almighty, but by (I)My name, [f]Lord, I did not make Myself known to them. I also established (J)My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the [g]land in which they lived as strangers. Furthermore I have (K)heard the groaning of the sons of Israel, because the Egyptians are holding them in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant. Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, ‘(L)I am the Lord, and (M)I will bring you out from under the labors of the Egyptians, and I will rescue you from their bondage. I will also (N)redeem you with (O)an outstretched arm, and with great judgments. Then I will take you [h](P)as My people, and (Q)I will be [i]your God; and (R)you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the labors of the Egyptians. I will bring you to the land which (S)I [j]swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and (T)I will give it to you as a possession; (U)I am the Lord.’”
