² So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, ^(A)the circumcision party^[a] criticized him, saying,

⁴⁵ And the believers from among ^(A)the circumcised who had come with Peter were amazed, because ^(B)the gift of the Holy Spirit ^(C)was poured out even on the Gentiles.

¹² For before certain men came from James, ^(A)he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing ^(B)the circumcision party.^{[a] 13} And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. ¹⁴ But when I saw that their ^(C)conduct was not in step with ^(D)the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas ^(E)before them all, “If you, though a Jew, ^(F)live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

²⁰ And when they heard it, they ^(A)glorified God. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed. They are all ^(B)zealous for the law, ²¹ and they have been told about you that you teach all ^(C)the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, ^(D)telling them ^(E)not to circumcise their children or ^(F)walk according to ^(G)our customs. ²² What then is to be done? They will certainly hear that you have come. ²³ Do therefore what we tell you. We have four men ^(H)who are under a vow;

⁵ But some believers who belonged to ^(A)the party of the Pharisees rose up and said, ^(B)“It is necessary ^(C)to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses.”

The Jerusalem Council

15 ^(A)But some men came down from Judea and were teaching ^(B)the brothers, “Unless you are ^(C)circumcised ^(D)according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”

⁹ The next day, as they were on their journey and approaching the city, ^(A)Peter went up ^(B)on the housetop about ^(C)the sixth hour^[a] to pray.
