1 Samuel 11:9-15

New International Version

⁹They told the messengers who had come, “Say to the men of Jabesh Gilead, ‘By the time the sun is hot tomorrow, you will be rescued.’” When the messengers went and reported this to the men of Jabesh, they were elated. ¹⁰They said to the Ammonites, “Tomorrow we will surrender^(A) to you, and you can do to us whatever you like.”

¹¹The next day Saul separated his men into three divisions;^(B) during the last watch of the night they broke into the camp of the Ammonites^(C) and slaughtered them until the heat of the day. Those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together.

¹²The people then said to Samuel, “Who^(D) was it that asked, ‘Shall Saul reign over us?’ Turn these men over to us so that we may put them to death.”

¹³But Saul said, “No one will be put to death today,^(E) for this day the Lord has rescued^(F) Israel.”

¹⁴Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal^(G) and there renew the kingship.^(H)” ¹⁵So all the people went to Gilgal^(I) and made Saul king^(J) in the presence of the Lord. There they sacrificed fellowship offerings before the Lord, and Saul and all the Israelites held a great celebration.

⁹众人对那使者说：“你们要回复基列雅比人说：‘明日太阳近午的时候，你们必得解救。’”使者回去告诉雅比人，他们就欢喜了。 ¹⁰于是雅比人对亚扪人说：“明日我们出来归顺你们，你们可以随意待我们。” ¹¹第二日，扫罗将百姓分为三队，在晨更的时候入了亚扪人的营，击杀他们直到太阳近午，剩下的人都逃散，没有二人同在一处的。

¹²百姓对撒母耳说：“那说扫罗岂能管理我们的是谁呢？可以将他交出来，我们好杀死他。” ¹³扫罗说：“今日耶和华在以色列中施行拯救，所以不可杀人。”

¹⁴撒母耳对百姓说：“我们要往吉甲去，在那里立国。” ¹⁵众百姓就到了吉甲那里，在耶和华面前立扫罗为王，又在耶和华面前献平安祭。扫罗和以色列众人大大欢喜。

⁹And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabeshgilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.

¹⁰Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.

¹¹And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

¹²And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.

¹³And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the Lord hath wrought salvation in Israel.

¹⁴Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

¹⁵And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.
