Contributions for Building the Temple
29 Then King David said to all the assembly, “My son Solomon—God has chosen him alone—is young and inexperienced. The task is great(A) because the building will not be built for a human but for the Lord God.(B) 2 So to the best of my ability I’ve made provision for the house of my God:(C) gold for the gold articles, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron, and wood for the wood, as well as onyx, stones for mounting,[a] antimony,[b](D) stones of various colors, all kinds of precious stones, and a great quantity of marble. 3 Moreover, because of my delight in the house of my God, I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the house of my God over and above all that I’ve provided for the holy house: 4 100 tons[c](E) of gold (gold of Ophir(F)) and 250 tons[d] of refined silver for overlaying the walls of the buildings, 5 the gold for the gold work and the silver for the silver, for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now who will volunteer to consecrate himself to the Lord today?”
6 Then the leaders of the households, the leaders of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and of hundreds,(G) and the officials in charge of the king’s work(H) gave willingly. 7 For the service of God’s house they gave 185 tons[e] of gold and 10,000 gold coins,[f](I) 375 tons[g] of silver, 675 tons[h] of bronze, and 4,000 tons[i] of iron. 8 Whoever had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the Lord’s house under the care of Jehiel(J) the Gershonite. 9 Then the people rejoiced because of their leaders’ willingness to give, for they had given to the Lord wholeheartedly.(K) King David also rejoiced greatly.
David’s Prayer
10 Then David blessed the Lord in the sight of all the assembly. David said,
May you be blessed, Lord God of our father Israel, from eternity to eternity. 11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the splendor and the majesty, for everything in the heavens and on earth belongs to you. Yours, Lord, is the kingdom, and you are exalted as head over all.(L) 12 Riches and honor come from you, and you are the ruler of everything.(M) Power and might are in your hand, and it is in your hand to make great and to give strength to all.(N) 13 Now therefore, our God, we give you thanks and praise your glorious name.
14 But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? For everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your own hand.[j] 15 For we are aliens and temporary residents in your presence as were all our ancestors.(O) Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.(P) 16 Lord our God, all this wealth that we’ve provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand; everything belongs to you. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart(Q) and that you are pleased with what is right.(R) I have willingly given all these things with an upright heart, and now I have seen your people who are present[k] here giving joyfully and[l] willingly to you. 18 Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our ancestors, keep this desire forever in the thoughts of the hearts of your people, and confirm their hearts toward you. 19 Give my son Solomon an undivided heart to keep and to carry out all your commands, your decrees, and your statutes,(S) and to build the building for which I have made provision.(T)
20 Then David said to the whole assembly, “Blessed be the Lord your God.” So the whole assembly praised the Lord God of their ancestors.(U) They knelt low and paid homage to the Lord and the king.(V)
21 The following day they offered sacrifices to the Lord and burnt offerings to the Lord: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, along with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.(W) 22 They ate and drank with great joy in the Lord’s presence that day.
The Enthronement of Solomon
Then, for a second time,(X) they made David’s son Solomon king; they anointed him[m] as the Lord’s ruler,(Y) and Zadok as the priest. 23 Solomon sat on the Lord’s throne as king in place of his father David. He prospered, and all Israel obeyed him.(Z) 24 All the leaders and the mighty men, and all of King David’s sons as well, pledged their allegiance to King Solomon. 25 The Lord highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel(AA) and bestowed on him such royal majesty as had not been bestowed on any king over Israel before him.(AB)
A Summary of David’s Life
26 David son of Jesse was king over all Israel.(AC) 27 The length of his reign over Israel was forty years; he reigned in Hebron for seven years and in Jerusalem for thirty-three.(AD) 28 He died at a good old age,(AE) full of days,(AF) riches, and honor, and his son Solomon became king in his place. 29 As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, note that they are written in the Events of the Seer Samuel,(AG) the Events of the Prophet Nathan,(AH) and the Events of the Seer Gad,(AI) 30 along with all his reign, his might, and the incidents that affected him and Israel and all the kingdoms of the surrounding lands.

As ofertas para a construção do templo
29 David voltou-se depois para toda a assembleia: “O meu filho Salomão, que Deus escolheu para ser o próximo rei de Israel, ainda é novo e inexperiente e a tarefa que está à sua frente é enorme, porque o templo que terá de construir não é uma edificação qualquer; é algo a ser dedicado ao Senhor Deus! 2 Usando todos os recursos que estavam à minha disposição, juntei tudo o que me foi possível para essa construção: ouro, prata, bronze, ferro, madeira, grandes quantidades de ónix e outras pedras preciosas, joias e mármore. 3 Visto que amo a casa do meu Deus, do meu tesouro pessoal dediquei também muita coisa para essa obra, além dos materiais de construção que estão armazenados. 4 Essas contribuições pessoais consistem em 100 000 quilos de ouro de Ofir e 235 toneladas de prata pura, para ser usada na cobertura das paredes do edifício. 5 Este ouro e prata também serão utilizados no fabrico de utensílios e nas decorações. Quem quer agora seguir o meu exemplo? Quem quer consagrar-se a si próprio e tudo o que tem ao Senhor?”
6 Então os chefes dos clãs, os cabeças das tribos, os oficiais do exército, os responsáveis da administração da casa real 7 ofereceram voluntariamente um total de 170 toneladas, mais 84 quilos de ouro, 340 toneladas de prata, 610 toneladas de bronze e 3400 toneladas de ferro. 8 Também ofereceram grande quantidade de joalharia, que foi depositada no tesouro do templo, à guarda de Jeiel, descendente de Gerson. 9 Toda a gente estava feliz com esta oportunidade de serviço, pois deram de coração ao Senhor. O rei David ficou profundamente comovido de alegria.
David louva o Senhor
10 Ainda na presença de toda a assembleia, David expressou os seus louvores ao Senhor desta maneira:
“Senhor, Deus do nosso pai Israel,
que o teu nome seja louvado sempre e sempre!
11 Teu é o poder e a glória e a majestade e a vitória.
Tudo o que há nos céus e na Terra te pertence,
ó Senhor, e este reino é teu.
Adoramos-te porque tudo está sob o teu controlo.
12 Riquezas e honra vêm apenas por ti;
tu és o juiz de toda a humanidade.
Teu é o poder e a força.
É por tua vontade que os homens se tornam grandes
e recebem força.
13 Ó nosso Deus, nós te louvamos
e celebramos o teu nome glorioso!
14 Quem sou eu e quem é o meu povo para te oferecermos tais coisas? Tudo o que temos vem de ti; nós apenas te damos aquilo que vem de ti! 15 Nós vivemos aqui na Terra apenas por um curto espaço de tempo, como estrangeiros numa terra que era dos nossos pais. Os nossos dias na Terra são como uma sombra que passa rapidamente, sem deixar vestígios. 16 Ó Senhor, nosso Deus, todos estes materiais que juntámos para construir um templo para o teu santo nome te pertencem! 17 Eu sei, Deus meu, que provas os homens para veres se são retos, porque te agradas de homens sinceros. Sabes que fiz tudo isto com as mais puras intenções e que velei para que o povo oferecesse os seus donativos voluntariamente e com alegria. 18 Senhor, Deus dos nossos pais Abraão, Isaque e Israel, faz com que o teu povo queira sempre obedecer-te e que o seu amor por ti nunca se altere! 19 Dá ao meu filho Salomão um coração reto para contigo, para que queira obedecer às tuas leis, mandamentos e preceitos, e procure empenhadamente finalizar a construção do teu templo para o qual fiz estes preparativos.”
20 Depois David disse a todo o povo: “Deem louvores ao Senhor, vosso Deus!” E todos louvaram o Senhor, Deus dos seus antepassados, inclinando-se diante do Senhor e do rei.
Salomão reconhecido como rei
21 No dia seguinte trouxeram 1000 novilhos, 1000 carneiros e 1000 cordeiros e ofereceram-nos em holocausto ao Senhor. Também apresentaram ofertas de vinho e muitos outros sacrifícios em favor de todo o Israel. 22 Seguidamente, comeram e beberam perante o Senhor, com grande alegria.
Novamente consagraram Salomão, o filho do rei David, como seu rei. Ungiram-no perante o Senhor como seu chefe e Zadoque como seu sacerdote. 23 Desta forma, Salomão sucedeu ao seu pai David no trono do Senhor; prosperou grandemente e todo o Israel lhe obedeceu. 24 Os líderes nacionais, os comandantes do exército e todos os seus irmãos submeteram-se ao rei Salomão.
25 O Senhor deu-lhe grande popularidade junto de todo o povo de Israel. Conseguiu angariar mais riquezas e honra do que qualquer outro rei que reinou anteriormente em Israel.
A morte de David
(1 Rs 2.10-12)
26 David, filho de Jessé, reinou em Israel 27 durante 40 anos; 7 anos em Hebrom e 33 anos em Jerusalém. 28 Morreu numa idade avançada, rico e honrado. O seu filho Salomão reinou em seu lugar.

Gifts for Building the Temple
29 Then King David said to the whole assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced.(A) The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the Lord God. 2 With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God—gold(B) for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, as well as onyx for the settings, turquoise,[a](C) stones of various colors, and all kinds of fine stone and marble—all of these in large quantities.(D) 3 Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided(E) for this holy temple: 4 three thousand talents[b] of gold (gold of Ophir)(F) and seven thousand talents[c] of refined silver,(G) for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings, 5 for the gold work and the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the Lord today?”
6 Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials(H) in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.(I) 7 They(J) gave toward the work on the temple of God five thousand talents[d] and ten thousand darics[e] of gold, ten thousand talents[f] of silver, eighteen thousand talents[g] of bronze and a hundred thousand talents[h] of iron. 8 Anyone who had precious stones(K) gave them to the treasury of the temple of the Lord in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite.(L) 9 The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly(M) to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.
David’s Prayer
10 David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying,
“Praise be to you, Lord,
the God of our father Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
11 Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power(N)
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.(O)
Yours, Lord, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.(P)
12 Wealth and honor(Q) come from you;
you are the ruler(R) of all things.
In your hands are strength and power
to exalt and give strength to all.
13 Now, our God, we give you thanks,
and praise your glorious name.
14 “But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this?(S) Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.(T) 15 We are foreigners and strangers(U) in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow,(V) without hope. 16 Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you. 17 I know, my God, that you test the heart(W) and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you.(X) 18 Lord, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. 19 And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion(Y) to keep your commands, statutes and decrees(Z) and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.”(AA)
20 Then David said to the whole assembly, “Praise the Lord your God.” So they all praised the Lord, the God of their fathers; they bowed down, prostrating themselves before the Lord and the king.
Solomon Acknowledged as King(AB)
21 The next day they made sacrifices to the Lord and presented burnt offerings to him:(AC) a thousand bulls, a thousand rams and a thousand male lambs, together with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.(AD) 22 They ate and drank with great joy(AE) in the presence of the Lord that day.
Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as king a second time, anointing him before the Lord to be ruler and Zadok(AF) to be priest. 23 So Solomon sat(AG) on the throne(AH) of the Lord as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him. 24 All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons,(AI) pledged their submission to King Solomon.
25 The Lord highly exalted(AJ) Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal splendor(AK) such as no king over Israel ever had before.(AL)
The Death of David(AM)
26 David son of Jesse was king(AN) over all Israel.(AO) 27 He ruled over Israel forty years—seven in Hebron(AP) and thirty-three in Jerusalem.(AQ) 28 He died(AR) at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.(AS)
29 As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer,(AT) the records of Nathan(AU) the prophet and the records of Gad(AV) the seer, 30 together with the details of his reign and power, and the circumstances that surrounded him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.

29 Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the Lord God.
2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for things of iron, and wood for things of wood; onyx stones, and stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.
3 Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver, which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the holy house.
4 Even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses withal:
5 The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord?
6 Then the chief of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king's work, offered willingly,
7 And gave for the service of the house of God of gold five thousand talents and ten thousand drams, and of silver ten thousand talents, and of brass eighteen thousand talents, and one hundred thousand talents of iron.
8 And they with whom precious stones were found gave them to the treasure of the house of the Lord, by the hand of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9 Then the people rejoiced, for that they offered willingly, because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the Lord: and David the king also rejoiced with great joy.
10 Wherefore David blessed the Lord before all the congregation: and David said, Blessed be thou, Lord God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.
11 Thine, O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O Lord, and thou art exalted as head above all.
12 Both riches and honour come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.
13 Now therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.
14 But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
15 For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.
16 O Lord our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee an house for thine holy name cometh of thine hand, and is all thine own.
17 I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee.
18 O Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep this for ever in the imagination of the thoughts of the heart of thy people, and prepare their heart unto thee:
19 And give unto Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for the which I have made provision.
20 And David said to all the congregation, Now bless the Lord your God. And all the congregation blessed the Lord God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads, and worshipped the Lord, and the king.
21 And they sacrificed sacrifices unto the Lord, and offered burnt offerings unto the Lord, on the morrow after that day, even a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, and a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel:
22 And did eat and drink before the Lord on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon the son of David king the second time, and anointed him unto the Lord to be the chief governor, and Zadok to be priest.
23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the Lord as king instead of David his father, and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.
24 And all the princes, and the mighty men, and all the sons likewise of king David, submitted themselves unto Solomon the king.
25 And the Lord magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and bestowed upon him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.
26 Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
27 And the time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years reigned he in Hebron, and thirty and three years reigned he in Jerusalem.
28 And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.
29 Now the acts of David the king, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Samuel the seer, and in the book of Nathan the prophet, and in the book of Gad the seer,
30 With all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him, and over Israel, and over all the kingdoms of the countries.
