26 وَفِي بِدَايَةِ حُكْمِ يَهُويَاقِيمَ بْنِ يُوشِيَّا مَلِكِ يَهُوذَا، أَوْحَى الرَّبُّ بِهَذَا الْكَلامِ قَائِلاً: 2 هَذَا مَا يُعْلِنُهُ الرَّبُّ: «قِفْ فِي سَاحَةِ هَيْكَلِ الرَّبِّ، وَبَلِّغْ كُلَّ أَهْلِ مُدُنِ يَهُوذَا الْقَادِمِينَ لِلْعِبَادَةِ فِي هَيْكَلِ الرَّبِّ بِجَمِيعِ الْكَلامِ الَّذِي أَمَرْتُكَ أَنْ تُخَاطِبَهُمْ بِهِ. وَإِيَّاكَ أَنْ تَحْذِفَ كَلِمَةً. 3 لَعَلَّهُمْ يَسْمَعُونَ وَيَرْجِعُ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ عَنْ طَرِيقِهِ الأَثِيمِ، فَأَمْتَنِعَ عَنِ الشَّرِّ الَّذِي نَوَيْتُ أَنْ أُوْقِعَهُ بِهِمْ لِسُوءِ أَعْمَالِهِمْ». 4 خَاطِبْهُمْ قَائِلاً: «هَذَا مَا يُعْلِنُهُ الرَّبُّ: إِنْ لَمْ تُطِيعُونِي فَتَسْلُكُوا فِي شَرِيعَتِي الَّتِي جَعَلْتُهَا أَمَامَكُمْ، 5 وَإِنْ لَمْ تَسْمَعُوا لِتَحْذِيرَاتِ عَبِيدِي الأَنْبِياءِ الَّذِينَ أَرْسَلْتُهُمْ مُنْذُ الْبِدَايَةِ إِلَيْكُمْ، وَلَمْ تُصْغُوا إِلَيْهِمْ، 6 فَإِنِّي أَجْعَلُ هَذَا الْهَيْكَلَ نَظِيرَ شِيلُوهَ، وَهَذِهِ الْمَدِينَةَ لَعْنَةً لِجَمِيعِ أُمَمِ الأَرْضِ». 7 فَسَمِعَ الْكَهَنَةُ وَالأَنْبِياءُ وَسَائِرُ الشَّعْبِ إِرْمِيَا يُرَدِّدُ هَذَا الْكَلامَ فِي هَيْكَلِ الرَّبِّ.
8 فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ إِرْمِيَا مِنَ الإِدْلاءِ بِكُلِّ مَا أَمَرَهُ الرَّبُّ أَنْ يُخَاطِبَ بِهِ الشَّعْبَ، قَبَضَ الْكَهَنَةُ وَالأَنْبِيَاءُ وَسَائِرُ الشَّعْبَ عَلَيْهِ قَائِلِينَ: «لابُدَّ أَنْ تَمُوتَ. 9 لِمَاذَا تَنَبَّأْتَ بِاسْمِ الرَّبِّ قَائِلاً: إِنَّ مَصِيرَ هَذَا الْهَيْكَلِ سَيَكُونُ كَمَصِيرِ شِيلُوهَ، وَهَذِهِ الْمَدِينَةُ تَصِيرُ خِرَباً مَهْجُورَةً؟». وَأَحَاطَ الشَّعْبُ كُلُّهُ بِإِرْمِيَا فِي بَيْتِ الرَّبِّ.
10 وَعِنْدَمَا سَمِعَ بِذَلِكَ رُؤَسَاءُ يَهُوذَا، أَقْبَلُوا مِنْ قَصْرِ الْمَلِكِ إِلَى هَيْكَلِ الرَّبِّ وَجَلَسُوا فِي مَدْخَلِ بَوَّابَةِ هَيْكَلِ الرَّبِّ الْجَدِيدَةِ، 11 ثُمَّ خَاطَبَ الْكَهَنَةُ وَالأَنْبِيَاءُ رُؤَسَاءَ يَهُوذَا وَسَائِرَ الشَّعْبِ قَائِلِينَ: «هَذَا الرَّجُلُ يَسْتَحِقُّ حُكْمَ الْمَوْتِ. لأَنَّهُ تَنَبَّأَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْمَدِينَةِ بِالدَّمَارِ كَمَا سَمِعْتُمْ بِآذَانِكُمْ».
12 فَقَالَ إِرْمِيَا لِجَمِيعِ الرُّؤَسَاءِ وَكُلِّ الشَّعْبِ: «الرَّبُّ قَدْ بَعَثَنِي لأَتَنَبَّأَ عَلَى هَذَا الْهَيْكَلِ وَعَلَى هَذِهِ الْمَدِينَةِ بِكُلِّ الْقَضَاءِ الَّذِي سَمِعْتُمُوهُ. 13 فَالآنَ قَوِّمُوا طُرُقَكُمْ وَأَعْمَالَكُمْ، وَأَطِيعُوا صَوْتَ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِكُمْ، فَيَمْتَنِعَ عَنِ الشَّرِّ الَّذِي قَضَى بِهِ عَلَيْكُمْ. 14 أَمَّا أَنَا فَإِنِّي فِي أَيْدِيكُمْ. اصْنَعُوا بِي مَا يَحْلُو لَكُمْ. 15 وَلَكِنْ تَيَقَّنُوا أَنَّكُمْ إِنْ قَتَلْتُمُونِي فَإِنَّكُمْ تَجْلِبُونَ دَماً بَرِيئاً عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ وَعَلَى هَذِهِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَعَلَى أَهْلِهَا، لأَنَّ الرَّبَّ قَدْ بَعَثَنِي حَقّاً لأُعْلِنَ قَضَاءَهُ فِي مَسَامِعِكُمْ».
16 عِنْدَئِذٍ قَالَ الرُّؤَسَاءُ وَكُلُّ الشَّعْبِ لِلْكَهَنَةِ وَالأَنْبِيَاءِ: «هَذَا الرَّجُلُ لَا يَسْتَحِقُّ حُكْمَ الْمَوْتِ لأَنَّهُ خَاطَبَنَا بِاسْمِ الرَّبِّ إِلَهِنَا». 17 ثُمَّ قَامَ رِجَالٌ مِنْ شُيُوخِ الْبِلادِ وَقَالُوا لِجَمَاعَةِ الشَّعْبِ: 18 «إِنَّ مِيخَا الْمُورَشْتِيَّ تَنَبَّأَ فِي عَهْدِ حَزَقِيَّا مَلِكِ يَهُوذَا، وَخَاطَبَ كُلَّ شَعْبِ يَهُوذَا قَائِلاً هَذَا مَا يُعْلِنُهُ الرَّبُّ الْقَدِيرُ: إِنَّ صِهْيَوْنَ سَتُحْرَثُ كَحَقْلٍ وَتَصِيرُ أُورُشَلِيمُ كَوْمَةً مِنَ الْخَرَائِبِ، وَجَبَلُ الْهَيْكَلِ مُرْتَفَعاً تَنْمُو عَلَيْهِ أَشْجَارُ الْغَابِ. 19 فَهَلْ قَتَلَهُ حَزَقِيَّا مَلِكُ يَهُوذَا وَكُلُّ شَعْبِ يَهُوذَا؟ أَمَا اتَّقَى الرَّبَّ وَاسْتَعْطَفَهُ، فَامْتَنَعَ الرَّبُّ عَنِ الشَّرِّ الَّذِي قَضَى بِهِ عَلَيْهِمْ؟ إِنَّنَا نَكَادُ نَجْلِبُ بَلاءً عَظِيماً عَلَى أَنْفُسِنَا». 20 وَكَانَ هُنَاكَ أَيْضاً رَجُلٌ آخَرُ يُدْعَى أُورِيَّا بْنَ شِمْعِيَا مِنْ قَرْيَةِ يَعَارِيمَ يَتَنَبَّأُ بِاسْمِ الرَّبِّ، فَتَنَبَّأَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْمَدِينَةِ وَعَلَى هَذِهِ الأَرْضِ بِمِثْلِ نُبُؤَةِ إِرْمِيَا. 21 فَبَلَغَ كَلامُهُ مَسَامِعَ الْمَلِكِ يَهُويَاقِيمَ وَجَمِيعِ مُحَارِبِيهِ الأَشِدَّاءِ وَسَائِرِ الرُّؤَسَاءِ، فَطَلَبَ الْمَلِكُ قَتْلَهُ، فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ أُورِيَّا بِذَلِكَ خَافَ وَهَرَبَ إِلَى مِصْرَ. 22 فَبَعَثَ الْمَلِكُ يَهُويَاقِيمُ رِجَالاً إِلَى مِصْرَ، مِنْهُمْ أَلْنَاثَانُ بْنُ عَكْبُورَ يَصْحَبُهُ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْمُرَافِقِينَ، 23 فَأَخْرَجُوا أُورِيَّا مِنْ مِصْرَ وَأَتَوْا بِهِ إِلَى الْمَلِكِ يَهُويَاقِيمَ فَقَتَلَهُ بِالسَّيْفِ، وَطَرَحَ جُثَّتَهُ فِي مَقَابِرِ عَامَّةِ النَّاسِ. 24 أَمَّا إِرْمِيَا فَقَدْ حَظِيَ بِحِمَايَةِ أَخِيقَامَ بِنْ شَافَانَ فَلَمْ يُسَلَّمْ لأَيْدِي الشَّعْبِ لِيَقْتُلُوهُ.

III. PROFEZIE DI FELICITA'
1. INTRODUZIONE: GEREMIA E' IL VERO PROFETA
Arresto e giudizio di Geremia
26 All'inizio del regno di Ioiakìm figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, fu rivolta a Geremia questa parola da parte del Signore. 2 Disse il Signore: «Và nell'atrio del tempio del Signore e riferisci a tutte le città di Giuda che vengono per adorare nel tempio del Signore tutte le parole che ti ho comandato di annunziare loro; non tralasciare neppure una parola. 3 Forse ti ascolteranno e ognuno abbandonerà la propria condotta perversa; in tal caso disdirò tutto il male che pensavo di fare loro a causa della malvagità delle loro azioni.
4 Tu dirai dunque loro: Dice il Signore: Se non mi ascolterete, se non camminerete secondo la legge che ho posto davanti a voi 5 e se non ascolterete le parole dei profeti miei servi che ho inviato a voi con costante premura, ma che voi non avete ascoltato, 6 io ridurrò questo tempio come quello di Silo e farò di questa città un esempio di maledizione per tutti i popoli della terra».
7 I sacerdoti, i profeti e tutto il popolo udirono Geremia che diceva queste parole nel tempio del Signore. 8 Ora, quando Geremia finì di riferire quanto il Signore gli aveva comandato di dire a tutto il popolo, i sacerdoti e i profeti lo arrestarono dicendo: «Devi morire! 9 Perché hai predetto nel nome del Signore: Questo tempio diventerà come Silo e questa città sarà devastata, disabitata?».
Tutto il popolo si radunò contro Geremia nel tempio del Signore. 10 I capi di Giuda vennero a sapere queste cose e salirono dalla reggia nel tempio del Signore e sedettero all'ingresso della Porta Nuova del tempio del Signore. 11 Allora i sacerdoti e i profeti dissero ai capi e a tutto il popolo: «Una sentenza di morte merita quest'uomo, perché ha profetizzato contro questa città come avete udito con i vostri orecchi!».
12 Ma Geremia rispose a tutti i capi e a tutto il popolo: «Il Signore mi ha mandato a profetizzare contro questo tempio e contro questa città le cose che avete ascoltate. 13 Or dunque migliorate la vostra condotta e le vostre azioni e ascoltate la voce del Signore vostro Dio e il Signore ritratterà il male che ha annunziato contro di voi. 14 Quanto a me, eccomi in mano vostra, fate di me come vi sembra bene e giusto; 15 ma sappiate bene che, se voi mi ucciderete, attirerete sangue innocente su di voi, su questa città e sui suoi abitanti, perché il Signore mi ha veramente inviato a voi per esporre ai vostri orecchi tutte queste cose».
16 I capi e tutto il popolo dissero ai sacerdoti e ai profeti: «Non ci deve essere sentenza di morte per quest'uomo, perché ci ha parlato nel nome del Signore nostro Dio».
17 Allora si alzarono alcuni anziani del paese e dissero a tutta l'assemblea del popolo: 18 «Michea il Morastita, che profetizzava al tempo di Ezechia, re di Giuda, affermò a tutto il popolo di Giuda: Dice il Signore degli eserciti:
Sion sarà arata come un campo,
Gerusalemme diventerà un cumulo di rovine,
il monte del tempio un'altura boscosa!
19 Forse Ezechia re di Giuda e tutti quelli di Giuda lo uccisero? Non temettero piuttosto il Signore e non placarono il volto del Signore e così il Signore disdisse il male che aveva loro annunziato? Noi, invece, stiamo per commettere una grave iniquità a nostro danno».
20 C'era anche un altro uomo che profetizzava nel nome del Signore, Uria figlio di Semaià da Kiriat-Iearìm; egli profetizzò contro questa città e contro questo paese con parole simili a quelle di Geremia. 21 Il re Ioiakìm, tutti i suoi prodi e tutti i magistrati udirono le sue parole e il re cercò di ucciderlo, ma Uria lo venne a sapere e per timore fuggì andandosene in Egitto. 22 Allora il re Ioiakìm inviò in Egitto uomini come Elnatàn figlio di Acbòr, e altri con lui. 23 Costoro fecero uscire dall'Egitto Uria e lo condussero al re Ioiakìm che lo fece uccidere di spada e fece gettare il suo cadavere nelle fosse della gente del popolo.
24 Ma la mano di Achikàm figlio di Safàn fu a favore di Geremia, perché non lo consegnassero in potere del popolo per metterlo a morte.

26 فِي بِدَايَةِ حُكْمِ يَهُويَاقِيمَ بْنِ يُوشِيَّا مَلِكِ يَهُوذَا، جَاءَتْ كَلِمَةُ اللهِ إلَيَّ. 2 هَذَا هُوَ مَا يَقُولُهُ اللهُ: «قِفْ فِي سَاحَةِ بَيْتِ اللهِ، وَتَكَلَّمْ إلَى سُكَّانِ مُدُنِ يَهُوذَا القَادِمِينَ لِيَسْجُدُوا فِي بَيْتِ اللهِ. تَكَلَّمْ إلَيْهِمْ بِكُلِّ الكَلَامِ الَّذِي أوصَيتُكَ بِأنْ تَقُولَهُ لَهُمْ، وَلَا تُنقِصْ كَلِمَةً مِنْهُ. 3 فَرُبَّمَا يَسْمَعُونَ، وَيَتُوبُونَ عَنْ طَرِيقِهِمُ الشِّرِّيرِ. حينَئِذٍ، سَأتَرَاجَعُ عَنِ الدَّمَارِ الَّذِي كُنْتُ سَأُنِزِلُهُ بِهِمْ بِسَبَبِ شَرِّ أعْمَالِهِمْ.
4 «قُلْ لَهُمْ، هَذَا هُوَ مَا يَقُولُهُ اللهُ: ‹إنْ لَمْ تَسْمَعُوا لِي وَتَسْلُكُوا بِحَسَبِ شَرِيعَتِي الَّتِي وَضَعتُهَا أمَامَكُمْ، 5 لِتَسْتَمِعُوا إلَى كَلَامِ خُدَّامِي الأنْبِيَاءِ، الَّذِينَ أرسَلتُهُمْ إلَيكُمْ بِإلحَاحٍ، فَلَمْ تَسْتَمِعُوا لَهُمْ – 6 فَإنِّي سَأجْعَلُ هَذَا الهَيْكَلَ كَشِيلُوهَ. وَسَأُحَوِّلُ هَذِهِ المَدِينَةَ إلَى لَعنَةٍ لِكُلِّ أُمَمِ الأرْضِ.›»
7 فَسَمِعَ الكَهَنَةُ وَالأنْبِيَاءُ وَكُلُّ الشَّعْبِ إرمِيَا وَهُوَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِهَذَا الكَلَامِ فِي بَيْتِ اللهِ. 8 وَعِنْدَمَا أنهَى إرمِيَا كَلَامَهُ عَنْ كُلِّ شَيءٍ أمَرَهُ اللهُ بِقَولِهِ لِكُلِّ الشَّعْبِ، قَبَضَ الكَهَنَةُ وَالأنْبِيَاءُ وَكُلُّ الشَّعْبِ عَلَيْهِ، وَقَالُوا لَهُ: «يَنْبَغِي أنْ تَمُوتَ. 9 فَلِمَاذَا تَتَنَبَّأُ بِاسْمِ اللهِ وَتَقُولُ: ‹هَذَا البَيْتُ سَيَكُونُ مِثْلَ شِيلُوهَ، وَسُكَّانُ هَذِهِ المَدِينَةِ سَيَفْنُونَ؟›» وَاجتَمَعَ كُلُّ الشَّعْبِ حَوْلَ إرمِيَا فِي هَيْكَلِ اللهِ.
10 وَسَمِعَ رُؤَسَاءُ يَهُوذَا هَذَا الكَلَامَ، فَصَعِدُوا مِنَ القَصرِ إلَى بَيْتِ اللهِ وَجَلَسُوا فِي مَدْخَلِ البَوَّابَةِ الجَدِيدَةِ فِي بَيْتِ اللهِ. 11 فَقَالَ الكَهَنَةُ وَالأنْبِيَاءُ لِلرُّؤَسَاءِ وَكُلِّ الشَّعْبِ: «يَنْبَغِي أنْ يُحكَمَ عَلَى هَذَا الرَّجُلِ بِالمَوْتِ لِأنَّهُ تَنَبَّأ ضِدَّ هَذِهِ المَدِينَةِ كَمَا سَمِعْتُمْ بِآذَانِكُمْ.»
12 فَقَالَ إرمِيَا لِكُلِّ الرُّؤَسَاءِ وَلِكُلِّ الشَّعْبِ: «أرْسَلَنِي اللهُ لِأتَنَبَّأ عَلَى هَذَا البَيْتِ وَعَلَى هَذِهِ المَدِينَةِ بِكُلَّ الكَلَامِ الَّذِي سَمِعْتُمُوهُ. 13 وَالْآنَ، أصلِحُوا طُرُقَكُمْ وَأعْمَالَكُمْ وَأطِيعُوا صَوْتَ إلَهِكُمْ. حِينَئِذٍ، يَتَرَاجَعُ اللهُ عَنِ الدَّمَارِ الَّذِي كَانَ سَيُنِزِلُهُ بِكُمْ. 14 أمَّا أنَا فَفِي أيدِيكُمْ. افْعَلُوا بِي مَا يَحْسُنُ فِي عُيُونِكُمْ. 15 وَلَكِنْ يَنْبَغِي أنْ تَعْلَمُوا بِأنَّكُمْ إنْ قَتَلْتُمُونِي، فَإنَّكُمْ تَضَعُونَ ذَنبَ دَمٍ بَرِيءٍ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَلَى هَذِهِ المَدِينَةِ وَعَلَى سُكَّانِهَا. لِأنَّ اللهَ قَدْ أرْسَلَنِي إلَيكُمْ لِأتَكَلَّمَ بِهَذَا الكَلَامِ فِي مَسَامِعِكُمْ.»
16 فَقَالَ الرُّؤَسَاءُ وَكُلُّ الشَّعْبِ لِلكَهَنَةِ وَالأنْبِيَاءِ: «لَا يَنْبَغِي أنْ يُحكَمَ عَلَى هَذَا الرَّجُلِ بِالمَوْتِ، لِأنَّهُ تَكَلَّمَ إلَينَا بِاسْمِ إلَهِنَا.»
17 وَوَقَفَ رِجَالٌ مِنْ شُيُوخِ الأرْضِ وَقَالُوا لِكُلِّ جَمَاعَةِ الشَّعْبِ: 18 «كَانَ مِيخَا المُورِشتِيُّ يَتَنَبَّأُ فِي أيَّامِ حَزَقِيَّا، مَلِكِ يَهُوذَا، وَقَالَ لِبَنِي يَهُوذَا: ‹هَذَا هُوَ مَا يَقُولُهُ اللهُ القَدِيرُ:
‹سَتَكُونُ صِهْيَوْنُ حَقلًا مَحرُوثًا،
وَالقُدْسُ كَومَةَ خَرَابٍ،
وَجَبَلُ الهَيْكَلِ تَلَّةً تَنْبُتُ فِيهَا الشُّجَيرَاتُ.›
19 «فَهَلْ قَتَلَهُ حَزَقِيَّا مَلِكُ يَهُوذَا، أوْ بَنُو يَهُوذَا؟ ألَمْ يَخَفْ حَزَقِيَّا اللهَ وَطَلَبَ رَحمَةَ اللهِ؟ ألَمْ يَتَرَاجَعِ اللهُ عَنِ الدَّمَارِ الَّذِي كَانَ سَيُنِزِلُهُ بِهِمْ؟ أمَّا نَحْنُ، فَنُوشِكُ أنْ نَأتِيَ بِكَارِثَةٍ عَلَى أنْفُسِنَا.»
20 وَكَانَ هُنَاكَ رَجُلٌ آخَرُ تَنَبَّأ بِاسْمِ اللهِ، اسْمُهُ أُورِيَّا بْنُ شِمْعِيَا مِنْ قِرْيَاتِ يَعَارِيمَ. وَقَدْ تَنَبَّأ ضِدَّ هَذِهِ المَدِينَةِ وَهَذِهِ الأرْضِ وَقَالَ مَا قَالَهُ إرْمِيَا. 21 وَقَدْ سَمِعَهُ المَلِكُ يَهُويَاقِيمُ وَكُلُّ جُنُودِهِ وَكُلُّ رُؤَسَائِهِ، وَسَعَى المَلِكُ لِقَتلِهِ. فَسَمِعَ أُورِيَّا هَذَا الأمْرَ، فَخَافَ وَهَرَبَ إلَى مِصْرٍ.
22 فَأرْسَلَ المَلِكُ يَهُويَاقِيمُ ألْنَاثَانَ بْنَ عَكْبُورَ وَمَعَهُ بَعْضُ الرِّجَالِ إلَى مِصْرٍ. 23 فَأحْضَرُوا أُورِّيَا مِنْ مِصْرٍ إلَى المَلِكِ يَهُويَاقِيمَ. فَقَطَعَ رَأسَهُ بِالسَّيْفِ وَطَرَحَ جُثَّتَهُ إلَى مَقبَرَةِ العَامَّةِ.
24 أمَّا أخِيقَامُ بْنُ شَافَانَ فَحَمَا إرْمِيَا، وَحَالَ دُونَ تَسْلِيمِهِ لِقَادَةِ الشَّعْبِ لِيَقْتُلُوهُ.

26 Early in the reign of Jehoiakim(A) son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came from the Lord: 2 “This is what the Lord says: Stand in the courtyard(B) of the Lord’s house and speak to all the people of the towns of Judah who come to worship in the house of the Lord.(C) Tell(D) them everything I command you; do not omit(E) a word. 3 Perhaps they will listen and each will turn(F) from their evil ways. Then I will relent(G) and not inflict on them the disaster I was planning because of the evil they have done. 4 Say to them, ‘This is what the Lord says: If you do not listen(H) to me and follow my law,(I) which I have set before you, 5 and if you do not listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I have sent to you again and again (though you have not listened(J)), 6 then I will make this house like Shiloh(K) and this city a curse[a](L) among all the nations of the earth.’”
7 The priests, the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speak these words in the house of the Lord. 8 But as soon as Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the Lord had commanded(M) him to say, the priests, the prophets and all the people seized(N) him and said, “You must die!(O) 9 Why do you prophesy in the Lord’s name that this house will be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate and deserted?”(P) And all the people crowded(Q) around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.
10 When the officials(R) of Judah heard about these things, they went up from the royal palace to the house of the Lord and took their places at the entrance of the New Gate(S) of the Lord’s house. 11 Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man should be sentenced to death(T) because he has prophesied against this city. You have heard it with your own ears!”(U)
12 Then Jeremiah said to all the officials(V) and all the people: “The Lord sent me to prophesy(W) against this house and this city all the things you have heard.(X) 13 Now reform(Y) your ways and your actions and obey(Z) the Lord your God. Then the Lord will relent(AA) and not bring the disaster he has pronounced against you. 14 As for me, I am in your hands;(AB) do with me whatever you think is good and right. 15 Be assured, however, that if you put me to death, you will bring the guilt of innocent blood(AC) on yourselves and on this city and on those who live in it, for in truth the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words(AD) in your hearing.”
16 Then the officials(AE) and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man should not be sentenced to death!(AF) He has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”
17 Some of the elders of the land stepped forward and said to the entire assembly of people, 18 “Micah(AG) of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. He told all the people of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“‘Zion(AH) will be plowed like a field,
Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble,(AI)
the temple hill(AJ) a mound overgrown with thickets.’[b](AK)
19 “Did Hezekiah king of Judah or anyone else in Judah put him to death? Did not Hezekiah(AL) fear the Lord and seek(AM) his favor? And did not the Lord relent,(AN) so that he did not bring the disaster(AO) he pronounced against them? We are about to bring a terrible disaster(AP) on ourselves!”
20 (Now Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath Jearim(AQ) was another man who prophesied in the name of the Lord; he prophesied the same things against this city and this land as Jeremiah did. 21 When King Jehoiakim(AR) and all his officers and officials(AS) heard his words, the king was determined to put him to death.(AT) But Uriah heard of it and fled(AU) in fear to Egypt. 22 King Jehoiakim, however, sent Elnathan(AV) son of Akbor to Egypt, along with some other men. 23 They brought Uriah out of Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him struck down with a sword(AW) and his body thrown into the burial place of the common people.)(AX)
24 Furthermore, Ahikam(AY) son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, and so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.
