히스기야의 병이 낫다
(대하 32:24-26; 사 3:1-8, 21-22)
20 그 무렵 히스기야가 병이 들어 거의 죽게 되었다. 아모스의 아들 예언자 이사야가 그에게 가서 말하였다. “주께서 이렇게 말씀하십니다. ‘네가 죽게 되었으니 네 집안의 모든 일을 정리하여라. 네가 다시 일어나지 못할 것이다.’”
2 히스기야가 벽 쪽으로 얼굴을 돌리고[a] 기도하였다. 3 “오, 주님. 제가 얼마나 신실하게 주님 앞에서 걸었는지 기억하여 주십시오. 그리고 온 마음을 다하여 주께서 보시기에 선한 일을 한 것도 기억하여 주십시오.” 그러고 나서 히스기야는 아주 슬프게 울었다.
4 이사야가 궁궐의 가운데뜰을 벗어나기도 전에 주께서 그에게 말씀하셨다. 5 “너는 돌아가서 내 백성의 지도자 히스기야에게 말하여라. ‘네 조상 다윗의 하나님 나 주가 말한다. “내가 네 기도를 들었고 네 눈물을 보았다. 그러므로 내가 네 병을 낫게 하겠다. 지금부터 사흘 째 되는 날에 네가 주의 성전에 올라갈 수 있을 것이다. 6 내가 네 목숨에 열다섯 해를 더해 주고 너와 이 성을 앗시리아 왕의 손에서 구해 주겠다. 나는 나를 위해서 그리고 나의 종 다윗을 위해서 이 성을 지켜 주겠다.”’”
7 그런 다음 이사야는 무화과로 반죽을 만들어 오라고 하였다. 그들이 그것을 만들어 가지고 와서 왕의 상처에 붙이자 왕이 나았다.
히스기야를 위한 표적
8 그러나 히스기야가 이사야에게 이렇게 물었다. “주께서 나의 병을 고쳐 주셔서 지금부터 사흘째 되는 날에 내가 주의 성전에 올라갈 수 있게 되리라는 증거가 무엇입니까?”
9 이사야가 대답하였다. “주께서 임금님에게 약속하신 것을 이루시겠다는 증거는 이것입니다. 임금님께서는 그림자가 열 계단[b] 앞으로 나아가기를 원하십니까 아니면 열 계단 뒤로 물러나기를 원하십니까?”
10 히스기야가 대답하였다. “그림자를 열 계단 앞으로 나아가게 하는 것은 쉬운 일이니 그림자를 열 계단 뒤로 물러나게 해 주십시오.”
11 예언자 이사야가 주께 기도드리니 주께서 아하스의 계단 위에 드리운 그림자를 열 계단 뒤로 물러나게 하셨다.
히스기야와 바빌로니아 사절단
(사 39:1-8)
12 그 무렵 발라단의 아들 므로닥발라단 바빌론 왕이 히스기야가 병이 들었다는 소식을 듣고 편지와 선물을 보내왔다. 13 히스기야는 므로닥발라단이 보낸 사람들을 반갑게 맞으며 그의 창고 안에 있는 것을 모두 그들에게 보여 주었다. 그는 은과 금과 향료와 값진 기름과 무기와 그의 보물 창고에 들어 있는 것을 모두 보여 주었다. 히스기야가 그의 궁궐과 나라 안에 있는 것 가운데서 그들에 보여 주지 않는 것이 하나도 없었다.
14 그때에 예언자 이사야가 히스기야 왕에게 와서 물었다. “이 사람들이 무슨 말을 하였으며 어디에서 온 사람들입니까?”
히스기야가 대답하였다. “그들은 먼 나라 바빌론에서 온 사람들입니다.”
15 이사야가 물었다. “그들이 임금님의 궁궐에서 무엇을 보았습니까?”
히스기야가 대답하였다. “그들은 나의 궁궐 안에 있는 모든 것을 보았습니다. 나의 보물 가운데 내가 그들에게 보여 주지 않은 것이 하나도 없습니다.”
16 그때에 이사야가 히스기야에게 말하였다. “주의 말씀을 들으십시오. 17 ‘네 궁궐에 있는 모든 것과 오늘까지 네 조상이 모아 둔 것들이 모두 바빌론으로 옮겨질 날이 틀림없이 올 것이다. 나 주가 말하는데, 남는 것은 아무것도 없을 것이다. 18 또 네 살과 피를 받고 태어난 네 자손 가운데 바빌론으로 끌려가 바빌론 왕궁의 내시가 되는 사람도 있을 것이다.’”
19 히스기야가 이사야에게 대답하였다. “그대가 전하여 준 주의 말씀은 지당한 말씀입니다.” 그가 그렇게 말한 것은 “내가 살아 있는 동안에는 평화와 안전이 지켜지지 않겠느냐?”라고 생각하였기 때문이다.
히스기야가 죽다
(대하 32:32-33)
20 히스기야가 다스리는 동안에 일어난 다른 일들과 그의 모든 업적과 그가 어떻게 저수지와 물길을 만들어서 물을 성 안으로 끌어들였는가 하는 것이 ‘유다 왕들의 역사’에 모두 기록되어 있다. 21 히스기야가 죽으니 그의 아들 므낫세가 그의 뒤를 이어서 왕이 되었다. 왕이 되었다.

Hezekiah's Illness and Recovery
20 (A)In those days (B)Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, (C)‘Set your house in order, for you shall die; you shall not recover.’” 2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying, 3 “Now, O Lord, (D)please remember how I have walked before you in faithfulness and (E)with a whole heart, (F)and have done what is good in your sight.” (G)And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 4 And before Isaiah had gone out of the middle court, the word of the Lord came to him: 5 “Turn back, and say to Hezekiah (H)the leader of my people, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: (I)I have heard your prayer; (J)I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord, 6 and I will add fifteen years to your life. I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, (K)and I will defend this city for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.” 7 And Isaiah said, “Bring a cake of figs. And let them take and lay it on the boil, that he may recover.”
8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “What shall be the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the Lord on the third day?” 9 And Isaiah said, “This shall be (L)the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing that he has promised: shall the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?” 10 And Hezekiah answered, “It is an easy thing for the shadow (M)to lengthen ten steps. Rather let the shadow go back ten steps.” 11 And Isaiah the prophet called to the Lord, (N)and he brought the shadow back ten steps, by which it had gone down on the steps of Ahaz.
Hezekiah and the Babylonian Envoys
12 (O)At that time (P)Merodach-baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, (Q)sent envoys with letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. 13 And Hezekiah welcomed them, and he showed them (R)all his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his armory, all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his house or in all his realm that Hezekiah did not show them. 14 Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say? And from where did they come to you?” And Hezekiah said, “They have come from a far country, from Babylon.” 15 He said, “What have they seen in your house?” And Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house; there is nothing in my storehouses that I did not show them.”
16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the Lord: 17 Behold, the days are coming, when (S)all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have stored up till this day, shall be carried to Babylon. Nothing shall be left, says the Lord. 18 (T)And some of your own sons, who will come from you, whom you will father, shall be taken away, (U)and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.” 19 Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, (V)“The word of the Lord that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Why not, if there will be peace and security in my days?”
20 (W)The rest of the deeds of Hezekiah and all his might and how he made (X)the pool and the conduit (Y)and brought water into the city, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 21 (Z)And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
