拿撒勒人厭棄耶穌
6 耶穌帶著門徒離開那地方,回到自己的家鄉。 2 到了安息日,祂開始在會堂裡教導人,眾人聽了都很驚奇,說:「這個人從哪裡學來這些本領?祂怎麼會有這種智慧?祂怎麼能行這樣的神蹟? 3 這不是那個木匠嗎?祂不是瑪麗亞的兒子嗎?祂不是雅各、約西、猶大、西門的大哥嗎?祂的妹妹們不也住在我們這裡嗎?」他們就對祂很反感。
4 耶穌對他們說:「先知到處受人尊敬,只有在本鄉、本族、本家例外。」 5 耶穌不能在那裡行任何神蹟,只把手按在幾個病人身上,醫治了他們。 6 他們的不信令耶穌詫異,於是祂就去周圍的村莊教導人。
差遣十二使徒
7 耶穌召集了十二個使徒,差遣他們兩個兩個地出去,賜給他們制伏污鬼的權柄, 8 又吩咐他們除了手杖之外,不用帶食物和背囊,腰包裡也不要帶錢, 9 只穿一雙鞋子和一套衣服就夠了。 10 祂說:「你們無論到哪裡,就住在那些接待你們的人家裡,一直住到離開。 11 如果某地方的人不接待你們,不聽你們傳的道,你們在離開之前要跺掉腳上的塵土,作為對他們的警告!」

施洗者約翰遇害
14 耶穌聲名遠播,希律王也聽說了祂的事。有人說:「施洗者約翰從死裡復活了,所以能夠行這些神蹟。」

還有人說:「祂是個先知,跟古代的一位先知相似。」
16 希律聽到這些議論,就說:「祂一定是被我斬了頭的約翰從死裡復活了。」 17 原來希律娶了他兄弟腓力的妻子希羅底,並為她的緣故而派人逮捕了約翰,把他關押在監牢裡。 18 因為約翰屢次對希律說:「你娶弟弟的妻子不合法。」

32 他們乘船悄悄地到了一處僻靜的地方。 33 可是有許多人看見他們離開,認出了他們,便從各城鎮步行趕往那裡,比他們先到達。 34 耶穌一下船,看見這一大群人好像沒有牧人的羊,心裡憐憫他們,於是教導了他們許多道理。
35 天色晚了,門徒過來對耶穌說:「時候已經不早了,這裡又是荒郊野外, 36 請遣散眾人,好讓他們到周圍的村莊去自己買些吃的。」
37 耶穌說:「你們給他們吃的吧。」
門徒說:「我們哪來這麼多錢買東西給他們吃啊?」
38 耶穌說:「看看你們有多少餅。」
他們察看後,說:「有五個餅和兩條魚。」
39 耶穌吩咐門徒叫大家分組坐在草地上。 40 於是眾人坐下,有的五十人一組,有的一百人一組。 41 耶穌拿起那五個餅、兩條魚,舉目望著天祝謝後,掰開遞給門徒,讓他們分給眾人。祂又照樣把那兩條魚分給眾人。 42 大家都吃了,並且吃飽了。 43 門徒把剩下的碎餅、碎魚收拾起來,裝滿了十二個籃子。 44 當時吃餅的男人有五千。
耶穌在湖面上行走
45 隨後,耶穌催門徒上船,叫他們先渡到湖對岸的伯賽大,祂則遣散眾人。 46 祂辭別了眾人後,就上山去禱告。 47 到了晚上,門徒的船在湖中心,耶穌獨自留在岸上。 48 大約凌晨三點鐘,祂看見門徒在逆風中搖櫓,非常吃力,就從水面上朝門徒走去,想要從他們旁邊經過。 49 門徒看見有人在湖面上走,以為是幽靈,嚇得驚叫起來。 50 全船的人看見祂,都嚇壞了,耶穌立刻對他們說:「放心吧,是我,不要怕!」
51 耶穌上了船,來到他們那裡,風便停了。門徒心裡十分驚奇, 52 因為他們仍然不明白耶穌分餅那件事的意義,心裡還是愚頑。 53 他們渡到湖對岸,來到革尼撒勒,在那裡靠岸, 54 剛一下船,眾人立刻認出了耶穌。 55 他們跑遍那一帶地方,用墊子把生病的人抬來,聽到耶穌在哪裡,就把病人抬到哪裡。 56 耶穌不論到哪一個城市、鄉鎮和村莊,人們總是把病人抬到街市上,求耶穌讓他們摸一摸祂衣裳的穗邊,所有摸過的病人都好了。

Rejected at Nazareth
6 And he went out from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. 2 And when[a] the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him[b] were amazed, saying, “Where did this man get these things? And what is this wisdom that has been granted to this man, and the miracles such as these performed through his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they were offended by him. 4 And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, and among his relatives, and in his own household.” 5 And he was not able to do any miracle in that place except to lay his[c] hands on a few sick people and[d] heal them.[e] 6 And he was astonished because of their unbelief.
The Twelve Commissioned and Sent Out
And he was going around among the villages teaching. 7 And he summoned the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. 8 And he commanded them that they take along nothing for the journey except only a staff—no bread, no traveler’s bag, no money in their[f] belts— 9 but to put on sandals and not to wear two tunics. 10 And he said to them, “Whenever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there. 11 And whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, as you[g] go out from there, shake off the dust that is on your feet for a testimony against them.” 12 And they went out and[h] proclaimed that people[i] should repent. 13 And they were expelling many demons and anointing many sick people with olive oil and healing them.[j]
Herod Kills John the Baptist
14 And King Herod heard it,[k] because his name had become known. And they were saying, “John, the one who baptizes, has been raised from the dead, and because of this these miraculous powers are at work in him.” 15 But others were saying, “He is Elijah,” and others were saying, “He is a prophet like one of the prophets.” 16 But when[l] Herod heard it,[m] he said, “John whom I beheaded—this one has been raised!” 17 For Herod himself had sent and[n] arrested John and bound him in prison because of Herodias, the wife of Philip his brother, because he had married her. 18 For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not permitted for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19 So Herodias held a grudge against him and was wanting to kill him, and was not able to do so. 20 For Herod was afraid of John, because he[o] knew him to be a righteous and holy man and protected him. And when he[p] listened to him, he was greatly perplexed, and yet he listened to him gladly. 21 And a suitable day came when Herod, on his birthday, gave a banquet for his courtiers and military tribunes and the most prominent men of Galilee. 22 And when[q] the daughter of Herodias herself[r] came in and danced and pleased[s] Herod and his dinner guests,[t] the king said to the girl, “Ask me for whatever you want, and I will give it[u] to you.” 23 And he swore to her,[v] “Anything whatever you ask me for I will give you, up to half my kingdom!” 24 And she went out and[w] said to her mother, “What should I ask for?” And she said, “The head of John the baptizer.” 25 And she came in immediately with haste to the king and[x] asked, saying, “I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter immediately.” 26 And although he[y] was deeply grieved, the king, because of his[z] oaths and dinner guests,[aa] did not want to refuse her. 27 And immediately the king sent an executioner and[ab] ordered him[ac] to bring his head. And he went and[ad] beheaded him in the prison. 28 And he brought his head on a platter and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. 29 And when[ae] his disciples heard this,[af] they came and took away his corpse and placed it in a tomb.
The Feeding of Five Thousand
30 And the apostles regathered to Jesus and reported to him everything that they had done and that they had taught. 31 And he said to them, “You yourselves come privately to an isolated place and rest for a short time.” For those who were coming and going were many, and they did not even have time to eat. 32 And they went away in the boat to an isolated place by themselves. 33 And many people saw them leaving and recognized them,[ag] and ran there together by land from all the towns, and arrived ahead of them. 34 And getting out of the boat[ah] he saw the large crowd and had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without[ai] a shepherd, and he began to teach them many things. 35 And the hour had already become late when[aj] his disciples came up to him, saying, “The place is desolate and the hour is already late. 36 Send them away so that they can go into the surrounding farms and villages and[ak] purchase something to eat for themselves.” 37 But he answered and[al] said to them, “You give them something[am] to eat.” And they said to him, “Should we go and[an] purchase bread for two hundred denarii and give it[ao] to them to eat?” 38 And he said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look!” And when they[ap] found out, they said, “Five, and two fish.” 39 And he ordered them all to recline in groups on the green grass. 40 And they reclined in groups, by hundreds and by fifties. 41 And taking the five loaves and the two fish and[aq] looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves and gave them[ar] to his disciples so that they could set them[as] before them. And he distributed the two fish to them all. 42 And they all ate and were satisfied. 43 And they picked up the broken pieces, twelve baskets full, and of the fish. 44 And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.
Jesus Walks on the Water
45 And immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he himself dismissed the crowd. 46 And after he[at] had said farewell to them, he went away to the mountain to pray. 47 And when[au] evening came, the boat was in the middle of the sea and he was alone on the land. 48 And he saw them being beaten in their rowing[av] because the wind was against them. Around the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea, and he was wanting to pass by them. 49 But when[aw] they saw him walking on the sea, they thought that it was a ghost, and they cried out. 50 For they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke with them and said to them, “Have courage, I am he! Do not be afraid!” 51 And he went up with them into the boat, and the wind abated. And they were extraordinarily[ax] astounded within themselves, 52 because they did not understand concerning the loaves, but their hearts were hardened.
Many Healed at Gennesaret
53 And after they[ay] had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and anchored there. 54 And as they were getting out of the boat, people[az] recognized him immediately. 55 They ran about through that whole region and began to carry around those who were sick[ba] on stretchers, wherever they heard that he was. 56 And wherever he would go, into villages or into towns or to farms, they would put those who were sick in the marketplaces and would implore him that if they could touch even the edge of his cloak. And all those who touched it were healed.

6 And he went forth thence, and came to his own country, and his disciples do follow him,
2 and sabbath having come, he began in the synagogue to teach, and many hearing were astonished, saying, `Whence hath this one these things? and what the wisdom that was given to him, that also such mighty works through his hands are done?
3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, and Joses, and Judas, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us?' -- and they were being stumbled at him.
4 And Jesus said to them -- `A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his kindred, and in his own house;'
5 and he was not able there any mighty work to do, except on a few infirm people having put hands he did heal [them];
6 and he wondered because of their unbelief. And he was going round the villages, in a circle, teaching,
7 and he doth call near the twelve, and he began to send them forth two by two, and he was giving them power over the unclean spirits,
8 and he commanded them that they may take nothing for the way, except a staff only -- no scrip, no bread, no brass in the girdle,
9 but having been shod with sandals, and ye may not put on two coats.
10 And he said to them, `Whenever ye may enter into a house, there remain till ye may depart thence,
11 and as many as may not receive you, nor hear you, going out thence, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony to them; verily I say to you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom or Gomorrah in a day of judgment than for that city.'
12 And having gone forth they were preaching that [men] might reform,
13 and many demons they were casting out, and they were anointing with oil many infirm, and they were healing [them].
14 And the king Herod heard, (for his name became public,) and he said -- `John the Baptist out of the dead was raised, and because of this the mighty powers are working in him.'
15 Others said -- `It is Elijah,' and others said -- `It is a prophet, or as one of the prophets.'
16 And Herod having heard, said -- `He whom I did behead -- John -- this is he; he was raised out of the dead.'
17 For Herod himself, having sent forth, did lay hold on John, and bound him in the prison, because of Herodias the wife of Philip his brother, because he married her,
18 for John said to Herod -- `It is not lawful to thee to have the wife of thy brother;'
19 and Herodias was having a quarrel with him, and was willing to kill him, and was not able,
20 for Herod was fearing John, knowing him a man righteous and holy, and was keeping watch over him, and having heard him, was doing many things, and hearing him gladly.
21 And a seasonable day having come, when Herod on his birthday was making a supper to his great men, and to the chiefs of thousands, and to the first men of Galilee,
22 and the daughter of that Herodias having come in, and having danced, and having pleased Herod and those reclining (at meat) with him, the king said to the damsel, `Ask of me whatever thou wilt, and I will give to thee,'
23 and he sware to her -- `Whatever thou mayest ask me, I will give to thee -- unto the half of my kingdom.'
24 And she, having gone forth, said to her mother, `What shall I ask for myself?' and she said, `The head of John the Baptist;'
25 and having come in immediately with haste unto the king, she asked, saying, `I will that thou mayest give me presently, upon a plate, the head of John the Baptist.'
26 And the king -- made very sorrowful -- because of the oaths and of those reclining (at meat) with him, would not put her away,
27 and immediately the king having sent a guardsman, did command his head to be brought,
28 and he having gone, beheaded him in the prison, and brought his head upon a plate, and did give it to the damsel, and the damsel did give it to her mother;
29 and having heard, his disciples came and took up his corpse, and laid it in the tomb.
30 And the apostles are gathered together unto Jesus, and they told him all, and how many things they did, and how many things they taught,
31 and he said to them, `Come ye yourselves apart to a desert place, and rest a little,' for those coming and those going were many, and not even to eat had they opportunity,
32 and they went away to a desert place, in the boat, by themselves.
33 And the multitudes saw them going away, and many recognised him, and by land from all the cities they ran thither, and went before them, and came together to him,
34 and having come forth, Jesus saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them, that they were as sheep not having a shepherd, and he began to teach many things.
35 And now the hour being advanced, his disciples having come near to him, say, -- `The place is desolate, and the hour is now advanced,
36 let them away, that, having gone away to the surrounding fields and villages, they may buy to themselves loaves, for what they may eat they have not.'
37 And he answering said to them, `Give ye them to eat,' and they say to him, `Having gone away, may we buy two hundred denaries' worth of loaves, and give to them to eat?'
38 And he saith to them, `How many loaves have ye? go and see;' and having known, they say, `Five, and two fishes.'
39 And he commanded them to make all recline in companies upon the green grass,
40 and they sat down in squares, by hundreds, and by fifties.
41 And having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the heaven, he blessed, and brake the loaves, and was giving to his disciples, that they may set before them, and the two fishes divided he to all,
42 and they did all eat, and were filled,
43 and they took up of broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full, and of the fishes,
44 and those eating of the loaves were about five thousand men.
45 And immediately he constrained his disciples to go into the boat, and to go before to the other side, unto Bethsaida, till he may let the multitude away,
46 and having taken leave of them, he went away to the mountain to pray.
47 And evening having come, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and he alone upon the land;
48 and he saw them harassed in the rowing, for the wind was against them, and about the fourth watch of the night he doth come to them walking on the sea, and wished to pass by them.
49 And they having seen him walking on the sea, thought [it] to be an apparition, and cried out,
50 for they all saw him, and were troubled, and immediately he spake with them, and saith to them, `Take courage, I am [he], be not afraid.'
51 And he went up unto them to the boat, and the wind lulled, and greatly out of measure were they amazed in themselves, and were wondering,
52 for they understood not concerning the loaves, for their heart hath been hard.
53 And having passed over, they came upon the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore,
54 and they having come forth out of the boat, immediately having recognised him,
55 having run about through all that region round about, they began upon the couches to carry about those ill, where they were hearing that he is,
56 and wherever he was going, to villages, or cities, or fields, in the market-places they were laying the infirm, and were calling upon him, that they may touch if it were but the fringe of his garment, and as many as were touching him were saved.
