耶稣在迦拿变水为酒
2 第三日，在加利利的迦拿有娶亲的筵席，耶稣的母亲在那里。 2 耶稣和他的门徒也被请去赴席。 3 酒用尽了，耶稣的母亲对他说：“他们没有酒了。” 4 耶稣说：“母亲[a]，我与你有什么相干？我的时候还没有到。” 5 他母亲对用人说：“他告诉你们什么，你们就做什么。” 6 照犹太人洁净的规矩，有六口石缸摆在那里，每口可以盛两三桶水。 7 耶稣对用人说：“把缸倒满了水。”他们就倒满了，直到缸口。 8 耶稣又说：“现在可以舀出来，送给管筵席的。”他们就送了去。 9 管筵席的尝了那水变的酒，并不知道是哪里来的，只有舀水的用人知道。管筵席的便叫新郎来， 10 对他说：“人都是先摆上好酒，等客喝足了才摆上次的，你倒把好酒留到如今！” 11 这是耶稣所行的头一件神迹，是在加利利的迦拿行的，显出他的荣耀来，他的门徒就信他了。

13 犹太人的逾越节近了，耶稣就上耶路撒冷去。 14 看见殿里有卖牛、羊、鸽子的，并有兑换银钱的人坐在那里， 15 耶稣就拿绳子做成鞭子，把牛羊都赶出殿去，倒出兑换银钱之人的银钱，推翻他们的桌子， 16 又对卖鸽子的说：“把这些东西拿去，不要将我父的殿当做买卖的地方！” 17 他的门徒就想起经上记着说：“我为你的殿心里焦急，如同火烧。”

18 因此犹太人问他说：“你既做这些事，还显什么神迹给我们看呢？” 19 耶稣回答说：“你们拆毁这殿，我三日内要再建立起来。” 20 犹太人便说：“这殿是四十六年才造成的，你三日内就再建立起来吗？” 21 但耶稣这话是以他的身体为殿。 22 所以到他从死里复活以后，门徒就想起他说过这话，便信了圣经和耶稣所说的。
23 当耶稣在耶路撒冷过逾越节的时候，有许多人看见他所行的神迹，就信了他的名。 24 耶稣却不将自己交托他们，因为他知道万人， 25 也用不着谁见证人怎样，因他知道人心里所存的。

2 第三天，在加利利的迦拿有人举办婚宴，耶稣的母亲在那里。 2 耶稣和门徒也被邀请去赴宴。 3 酒喝完了，耶稣的母亲就对祂说：“他们没有酒了。” 4 耶稣说：“妇人，这跟你我有什么相干[a]？我的时候还没有到。” 5 祂母亲对仆人说：“祂叫你们做什么，你们就做什么。” 6 那里有六口犹太人用来行洁净礼仪的石缸，每口可以盛约一百升水。
7 耶稣对仆人说：“把缸倒满水！”他们就往缸里倒水，一直满到缸口。 8 耶稣又说：“现在可以舀些出来，送给宴席总管。”他们就送了去。 9 那些仆人知道这酒是怎样来的，宴席总管却不知道。他尝过那水变的酒后，便把新郎叫来， 10 对他说：“人们都是先拿好酒款待客人，等客人喝够了，才把次等的拿出来，你却把好酒留到现在！” 11 这是耶稣第一次行神迹，是在加利利的迦拿行的，彰显了祂的荣耀，门徒都信了祂。

13 犹太人的逾越节快到了，耶稣便上耶路撒冷去。 14 祂看见圣殿区有人在卖牛羊和鸽子，还有人在兑换银币， 15 就用绳索做成鞭子把牛羊赶出去，倒掉钱商的银币，推翻他们的桌子， 16 又对卖鸽子的说：“把这些东西拿出去！不要把我父的殿当作市场。” 17 祂的门徒想起圣经上说：“我对你的殿充满炙热的爱。”
18 当时，犹太人质问祂：“你给我们显什么神迹来证明你有权这样做？”
19 耶稣回答说：“你们拆毁这座殿，我三天之内会把它重建起来。”
20 他们说：“这座殿用了四十六年才建成，你三天之内就要把它重建起来吗？” 21 其实耶稣说的殿是指自己的身体， 22 所以等到祂从死里复活以后，祂的门徒想起这句话，就相信了圣经和耶稣所传的道。
23 耶稣在耶路撒冷过逾越节期间，许多人看见祂行的神迹，就信了祂。 24 耶稣却不信任他们，因为祂洞悉万人。 25 不用别人告诉祂，祂也深知人的内心。

2 And the third day a marriage happened in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there,
2 and also Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage;
3 and wine having failed, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, `Wine they have not;'
4 Jesus saith to her, `What -- to me and to thee, woman? not yet is mine hour come.'
5 His mother saith to the ministrants, `Whatever he may say to you -- do.'
6 And there were there six water-jugs of stone, placed according to the purifying of the Jews, holding each two or three measures.
7 Jesus saith to them, `Fill the water-jugs with water;' and they filled them -- unto the brim;
8 and he saith to them, `Draw out, now, and bear to the director of the apartment;' and they bare.
9 And as the director of the apartment tasted the water become wine, and knew not whence it is, (but the ministrants knew, who have drawn the water,) the director of the feast doth call the bridegroom,
10 and saith to him, `Every man, at first, the good wine doth set forth; and when they may have drunk freely, then the inferior; thou didst keep the good wine till now.'
11 This beginning of the signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him;
12 after this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples; and there they remained not many days.
13 And the passover of the Jews was nigh, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem,
14 and he found in the temple those selling oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the money-changers sitting,
15 and having made a whip of small cords, he put all forth out of the temple, also the sheep, and the oxen; and of the money-changers he poured out the coins, and the tables he overthrew,
16 and to those selling the doves he said, `Take these things hence; make not the house of my Father a house of merchandise.'
17 And his disciples remembered that it is written, `The zeal of Thy house did eat me up;'
18 the Jews then answered and said to him, `What sign dost thou shew to us -- that thou dost these things?'
19 Jesus answered and said to them, `Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will raise it up.'
20 The Jews, therefore, said, `Forty and six years was this sanctuary building, and wilt thou in three days raise it up?'
21 but he spake concerning the sanctuary of his body;
22 when, then, he was raised out of the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this to them, and they believed the Writing, and the word that Jesus said.
23 And as he was in Jerusalem, in the passover, in the feast, many believed in his name, beholding his signs that he was doing;
24 and Jesus himself was not trusting himself to them, because of his knowing all [men],
25 and because he had no need that any should testify concerning man, for he himself was knowing what was in man.

The marriage at Cana
2 Two days after that, there was a marriage party. It was in the town of Cana, in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there. 2 People had asked Jesus and his disciples to come to the party too. 3 When people had drunk all the wine, Jesus' mother said to him, ‘They have no more wine.’ 4 Jesus replied, ‘Woman, why do you tell me this? It is not my time yet.’ 5 His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you to do.’
6 There were six big pots there. People had used stone to make them. Each pot could contain about 100 litres of water. The water was there so that the Jews could wash themselves in the way that their special rules taught. 7 Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the pots with water.’ So they filled the pots to the top. 8 Then he said, ‘Now take some of the water from the pots and give it to the master of the party.’ So they did that. 9 The master of the party tasted the water. The water had now become wine! The master did not know where the wine had come from. But the servants who had given it to him knew about it. Then the master asked the new husband to come to him. 10 The master said to him, ‘Everyone else brings out the best wine first. When people have had plenty to drink, then they give people cheaper wine. But you are different. You have kept the best wine until now.’
11 Jesus did this first miracle at Cana, in Galilee. In this way, Jesus showed how great and powerful he was. And his disciples believed in him.
Jesus goes to the temple
12 After this, Jesus went to a town called Capernaum. His mother, his brothers and his disciples went with him. They stayed there for a few days.[a]
13 It was almost time for the Jewish Passover festival. So Jesus went to Jerusalem.[b] 14 He went into the yard of the temple. There he found people who were selling cows, sheep and doves. Other people were sitting at tables to change coins for people. 15 So Jesus made a whip from some pieces of rope. Then he made all the people leave the temple quickly, with the sheep and the cows. He threw onto the ground all the coins of the men who changed money. He turned their tables over. 16 He said to the people who sold birds, ‘Take them out of here! Do not make my Father's house into a market!’ 17 His disciples remembered what it says in the Bible: ‘My love for your house burns inside me like a fire.’[c]
18 Then the Jews asked Jesus, ‘What is your authority to do this? Do a miracle to show us that you really do have authority.’ 19 Jesus answered them, ‘If you destroy this house of God, I will build it up again in three days.’ 20 The Jews replied, ‘People have worked for 46 years to build this house. But you say that you will build it again in three days!’ 21 But the house that Jesus was speaking about was his own body. 22 The disciples remembered this when Jesus had become alive again after his death. They remembered that he had said this. Then they believed what the Bible taught. They also believed the words that Jesus had spoken.
23 While Jesus was in Jerusalem for the Passover festival, he did many miracles.[d] Many people saw these miracles that showed he was from God. As a result, they believed in Jesus. 24 But Jesus himself did not trust the people. He knew what all people are really like. 25 He did not need anyone to tell him what people are like. He knew already what was really in each person.

- 2:12 Capernaum was another town in Galilee. It was next to the lake called Lake Galilee.
- 2:13 The Passover was an event that was very special to the Jews. Every year, all the men had to come to the temple at Jerusalem for the Passover Festival. They remembered the time, many years before, when God had led their ancestors out of Egypt. God had saved them so that they did not have to be slaves to Egypt's people. He had killed all the oldest sons of Egypt's people. But he had saved the Jewish sons of Israel's people. He told the Jews that they must put a lamb's blood on the wood over the top and on the sides of their doors. If the blood was there, their oldest sons would not die. See Exodus 12.

- 2:23 Jesus did many miracles, but John only tells us about seven of them. In Greek, John uses a word for miracle that means sign. It tells us more about God.
