5 凡信耶穌是基督的，都是從 神生的，凡愛那生他的，也必愛那從他而生的。 2 我們若愛 神，並且遵行他的命令，就知道我們是愛 神的兒女了。 3 我們遵守 神的命令，就是愛他了；而且他的命令是不難遵守的， 4 因為凡從 神生的就勝過世界。使我們勝過世界的，就是我們的信心。 5 勝過世界的是誰呢？不就是那信耶穌是 神的兒子的嗎？
神為他兒子作的見證
6 那藉著水和血來的就是耶穌基督，不是單用水，而是用水又用血；作見證的是聖靈，因為聖靈就是真理。 7 原來作見證的有三樣， 8 就是聖靈、水和血，這三樣是一致的。 9 我們若接受人的見證， 神的見證就更強而有力了，因為這是 神為他的兒子作的見證。 10 信 神的兒子的，就有這見證在他心裡；不信 神的，就是把 神當作說謊的，因為他不信 神為他兒子所作的見證。 11 這見證就是 神已經把永遠的生命賜給我們，這生命是在他兒子裡面的。 12 凡有 神兒子的，就有生命；沒有 神兒子的，就沒有生命。
要照 神的旨意祈求
13 我把這些事寫給你們信 神的兒子之名的人，是要你們知道自己有永生。 14 如果我們照著 神的旨意祈求，他必聽我們；這就是我們對 神所存的坦然無懼的心。 15 既然我們知道他聽我們的祈求，我們就知道，我們無論求甚麼，他必賜給我們。
16 如果有人看見弟兄犯了不至於死的罪，他就要祈求， 神必因他的緣故，把生命賜給那些犯了不至於死的罪的人；有至於死的罪，我不說他應當為那罪祈求。 17 一切不義都是罪，但也有不至於死的罪。
18 我們知道凡從 神生的就不犯罪，而且從 神生的那一位也必保守他，連那惡者也不能碰他。 19 我們知道我們是屬於 神的，而整個世界是伏在那惡者手下。 20 我們知道 神的兒子已經來了，並且賜給我們悟性，使我們能認識那位真實者。我們也在那位真實者裡面，就是在他兒子耶穌基督裡面。這一位就是真神，也是永遠的生命。 21 孩子們，你們要保守自己遠離偶像。

上帝的孩子战胜世界
5 凡是相信耶稣是基督的人都是上帝的孩子，爱父的人也会爱父之子。 2 我们怎么知道我们爱上帝的儿女呢？我们知道是因为我们爱上帝，并执行上帝的命令。 3 爱上帝意味着遵从他的命令。上帝的命令对于我们并非难以承受。 4 因为每个成为上帝孩子的人都有战胜这个世界的力量。 5 是我们的信仰战胜了这个世界。那么，战胜这个世界的人是谁呢？只有相信耶稣是上帝之子的人，才能战胜这个世界。
上帝告诉过我们关于他的儿子

5 每一个信耶稣是基督的人，都是从上帝生的。凡爱生他之上帝的，也爱上帝所生的。 2 当我们爱上帝，遵行祂的命令时，便知道自己也爱祂的儿女。 3 因为我们遵行上帝的命令就是爱上帝，祂的命令并不难遵守。 4 因为凡是从上帝生的人都能胜过世界，使我们得胜的是我们的信心。 5 谁能胜过世界呢？不就是那些信耶稣是上帝的儿子的人吗？
上帝的见证
6 耶稣基督是借着水和血来的。祂不单是借着水来的，也是借着水和血来的，并且有圣灵为祂做见证，圣灵就是真理。 7 这样，做见证的共有三样： 8 圣灵、水和血。这三者是一致的。 9 我们既然接受人的见证，就更该接受上帝的见证，因为上帝为祂的儿子做了见证。 10 信上帝儿子的人心里有这见证，不信上帝的人等于把上帝当作撒谎的，因为他不信上帝为祂儿子做的见证。 11 这见证就是：上帝已经把永恒的生命赐给我们，这生命在祂儿子里面。 12 人有上帝的儿子，就有这生命；没有上帝的儿子，就没有这生命。
永恒的生命

God’s Children Win Against the World
5 The people who believe that Jesus is the Messiah are God’s children. Anyone who loves the Father also loves the Father’s children. 2 How do we know that we love God’s children? We know because we love God and we obey his commands. 3 Loving God means obeying his commands. And God’s commands are not too hard for us, 4 because everyone who is a child of God has the power to win against the world. 5 It is our faith that has won the victory against the world. So who wins against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
God Told Us About His Son
6 Jesus Christ is the one who came. He came with water and with blood.[a] He did not come by water only. No, Jesus came by both water and blood. And the Spirit tells us that this is true. The Spirit is the truth. 7 So there are three witnesses that tell us about Jesus: 8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood. These three witnesses agree.
9 We believe people when they say something is true. But what God says is more important. And this is what God told us: He told us the truth about his own Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God has the truth that God told us. But people who do not believe God make God a liar, because they do not believe what God told us about his Son. 11 This is what God told us: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life, but whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
We Have Eternal Life Now
13 I write this letter to you who believe in the Son of God. I write so that you will know that you have eternal life now. 14 We can come to God with no doubts. This means that when we ask God for things (and those things agree with what God wants for us), God cares about what we say. 15 He listens to us every time we ask him. So we know that he gives us whatever we ask from him.
16 Suppose you see your fellow believer sinning (sin that does not lead to eternal death). You should pray for them. Then God will give them life. I am talking about people whose sin does not lead to eternal death. There is sin that leads to death. I don’t mean that you should pray about that kind of sin. 17 Doing wrong is always sin. But there is sin that does not lead to eternal death.
18 We know that those who have been made God’s children do not continue to sin. The Son of God keeps them safe.[b] The Evil One cannot hurt them. 19 We know that we belong to God, but the Evil One controls the whole world. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding. So now we can know the one who is true, and we live in that true God. We are in his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the true God, and he is eternal life. 21 So, dear children, keep yourselves away from false gods.
