宜聽訓誨
4 眾子啊，要聽父親的教訓，留心得知聰明。 2 因我所給你們的是好教訓，不可離棄我的法則[a]。 3 我在父親面前為孝子，在母親眼中為獨一的嬌兒。 4 父親教訓我說：「你心要存記我的言語，遵守我的命令，便得存活。 5 要得智慧，要得聰明，不可忘記，也不可偏離我口中的言語。 6 不可離棄智慧，智慧就護衛你；要愛她，她就保守你。 7 智慧為首，所以要得智慧，在你一切所得之內必得聰明[b]。 8 高舉智慧，她就使你高升；懷抱智慧，她就使你尊榮。 9 她必將華冠加在你頭上，把榮冕交給你。」
10 我兒，你要聽受我的言語，就必延年益壽。 11 我已指教你走智慧的道，引導你行正直的路。 12 你行走，腳步必不致狹窄；你奔跑，也不致跌倒。 13 要持定訓誨，不可放鬆；必當謹守，因為它是你的生命。 14 不可行惡人的路，不要走壞人的道。 15 要躲避，不可經過，要轉身而去。 16 這等人若不行惡，不得睡覺；不使人跌倒，睡臥不安。 17 因為他們以奸惡吃餅，以強暴喝酒。 18 但義人的路好像黎明的光，越照越明，直到日午。 19 惡人的道好像幽暗，自己不知因什麼跌倒。
20 我兒，要留心聽我的言辭，側耳聽我的話語， 21 都不可離你的眼目，要存記在你心中。 22 因為得著它的就得了生命，又得了醫全體的良藥。 23 你要保守你心，勝過保守一切[c]，因為一生的果效是由心發出。 24 你要除掉邪僻的口，棄絕乖謬的嘴。 25 你的眼目要向前正看，你的眼睛[d]當向前直觀。 26 要修平你腳下的路，堅定你一切的道， 27 不可偏向左右，要使你的腳離開邪惡。

父親的教誨
4 孩子們啊，
你們要聽從父親的教誨，
留心學習，以便領悟，
2 因為我給你們的訓誨是美好的，
不可背棄我的教導。
3 我年幼時在父親身邊，
是母親唯一的寵兒。
4 父親教導我說：
「要牢記我的話，
遵守我的誡命，就必存活。
5 你要尋求智慧和悟性，
不要忘記或違背我的吩咐。
6 不可離棄智慧，智慧必護佑你；
你要熱愛智慧，智慧必看顧你。
7 智慧至上，要尋求智慧，
要不惜一切，求得悟性。
8 高舉智慧，她必使你受尊崇；
擁抱智慧，她必使你得尊榮。
9 她必為你戴上華冠，
加上榮冕。」
10 孩子啊，你要聽從我的教導，

不絆倒人就無法安眠；
17 他們吃的是邪惡餅，
喝的是殘暴酒。
18 義人的道路好像黎明的曙光，
越照越亮，直到大放光明。
19 惡人的道路一片幽暗，
他們不知被何物絆倒。
20 孩子啊，你要聆聽我的吩咐，
側耳聽我的訓言；
21 不要讓它們離開你的視線，
要牢記在心。
22 因為得到它們就得到生命，
全身也必康健。
23 要一絲不苟地守護你的心，
因為生命之泉從心中湧出。
24 不講欺詐之言，
不說荒謬的話。
25 眼睛要正視前方，
雙目要向前直看。
26 要鋪平腳下的路，

Get Wisdom at Any Cost
4 Listen, my sons,(A) to a father’s instruction;(B)
pay attention and gain understanding.(C)
2 I give you sound learning,
so do not forsake my teaching.
3 For I too was a son to my father,
still tender, and cherished by my mother.
4 Then he taught me, and he said to me,
“Take hold(D) of my words with all your heart;
keep my commands, and you will live.(E)
5 Get wisdom,(F) get understanding;
do not forget my words or turn away from them.
6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you;(G)
love her, and she will watch over you.(H)
7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get[a] wisdom.
Though it cost all(I) you have,[b] get understanding.(J)
8 Cherish her, and she will exalt you;
embrace her, and she will honor you.(K)
9 She will give you a garland to grace your head
and present you with a glorious crown.(L)”
10 Listen, my son,(M) accept what I say,
and the years of your life will be many.(N)
11 I instruct(O) you in the way of wisdom
and lead you along straight paths.(P)
12 When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;
when you run, you will not stumble.(Q)
13 Hold on to instruction, do not let it go;
guard it well, for it is your life.(R)
14 Do not set foot on the path of the wicked
or walk in the way of evildoers.(S)
15 Avoid it, do not travel on it;
turn from it and go on your way.
16 For they cannot rest until they do evil;(T)
they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble.
17 They eat the bread of wickedness
and drink the wine of violence.(U)
18 The path of the righteous(V) is like the morning sun,(W)
shining ever brighter till the full light of day.(X)
19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;(Y)
they do not know what makes them stumble.(Z)
20 My son,(AA) pay attention to what I say;
turn your ear to my words.(AB)
21 Do not let them out of your sight,(AC)
keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them
and health to one’s whole body.(AD)
23 Above all else, guard(AE) your heart,
for everything you do flows from it.(AF)
24 Keep your mouth free of perversity;
keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
25 Let your eyes(AG) look straight ahead;
fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Give careful thought to the[c] paths for your feet(AH)
and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left;(AI)
keep your foot from evil.
