6 大衛召集了三萬名以色列精兵， 2 率領他們到猶大的巴拉去接上帝的約櫃。這約櫃以坐在基路伯天使上面的萬軍之耶和華的名字命名。 3 他們把上帝的約櫃從座落在山上的亞比拿達家抬出來，放在一輛新造的牛車上，由亞比拿達的兩個兒子烏撒和亞希約趕車， 4 亞希約走在約櫃前面。 5 大衛和全體以色列人在耶和華面前用琴、瑟、鼓、鈸和鑼奏樂，盡情歌舞。 6 他們走到拿肯的麥場時，拉車的牛失蹄，烏撒便伸手去扶上帝的約櫃。 7 耶和華上帝就向烏撒發怒，因他的不敬而擊殺了他。他死在了約櫃旁邊。 8 大衛因耶和華擊殺烏撒而煩惱，就稱那地方為毗列斯·烏撒[a]，沿用至今。
9 那天，大衛懼怕耶和華，他說：「耶和華的約櫃怎能運到我這裡？」 10 他不願把耶和華的約櫃運進大衛城，而是把它運到迦特人俄別·以東家。 11 耶和華的約櫃在俄別·以東家停放了三個月，耶和華賜福給俄別·以東和他全家。
12 大衛聽說耶和華因為約櫃而賜福給俄別·以東全家及其一切所有，就滿心歡喜地去把上帝的約櫃從俄別·以東家接進大衛城。 13 這一次，抬耶和華約櫃的人走了六步，大衛就獻上公牛和肥犢為祭。 14 大衛穿著細麻布的以弗得在耶和華面前盡情跳舞。 15 大衛和全體以色列人在歡呼聲和號角聲中把耶和華的約櫃迎進大衛城。
16 耶和華的約櫃進大衛城的時候，掃羅的女兒米甲從窗戶看見大衛在耶和華面前又跳又舞，心裡就輕視他。 17 他們把耶和華的約櫃抬來，安放在大衛準備好的帳篷裡。大衛在耶和華面前獻上燔祭和平安祭， 18 然後奉萬軍之耶和華的名給民眾祝福， 19 還分給所有以色列人，不論男女，每人一個餅、一塊肉和一個葡萄餅。眾人就各自回家去了。
20 大衛回到家為自己的家人祝福，米甲出來迎接他，說：「今天以色列王好光彩呀！居然像個粗俗之人，在臣僕和婢女面前露體！」 21 大衛對她說：「我是在耶和華面前跳舞。祂不用你父親和你父親家裡的人，而是選立我來治理祂的以色列子民，所以我要在祂面前歡慶。 22 我要讓自己更卑微，自視低賤，但你說的那些婢女會尊重我。」
23 掃羅的女兒米甲終生都沒有生育。

The Ark Brought to Jerusalem
6 (A)David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. 2 And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from (B)Baale-judah (C)to bring up from there the ark of God, which is called by the name of the Lord of hosts (D)who sits enthroned on the cherubim. 3 And they carried the ark of God (E)on a new cart and brought it (F)out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. And Uzzah and Ahio,[a] the sons of Abinadab, were driving the new cart, 4 with the ark of God,[b] and Ahio went before the ark.

5 And David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the Lord, with (G)songs[c] and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals. 6 And when they came to the threshing floor of (H)Nacon, Uzzah (I)put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. 7 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and (J)God struck him down there because of his error, and he died there beside the ark of God. 8 And David was angry because the Lord had broken out against Uzzah. And that place is called Perez-uzzah[d] to this day. 9 And David was afraid of the Lord that day, and he said, “How can the ark of the Lord come to me?” 10 So David was not willing to take the ark of the Lord into the city of David. But David took it aside (K)to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 11 And the ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months, (L)and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and all his household.
12 And it was told King David, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” (M)So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom (N)to the city of David with rejoicing. 13 And when (O)those who bore the ark of the Lord had gone six steps, (P)he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal. 14 And David (Q)danced before the Lord with all his might. And David was (R)wearing a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.

16 As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart. 17 And they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it (S)in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. (T)And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. 18 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, (U)he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts 19 and distributed among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, a cake of bread, a portion of meat,[e] and a cake of raisins to each one. (V)Then all the people departed, each to his house.
20 And David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, (W)uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants' female servants, as one of the (X)vulgar fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!” 21 And David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, (Y)who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince[f] over Israel, the people of the Lord—and I will celebrate before the Lord. 22 I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your[g] eyes. But by the female servants of whom you have spoken, by them I shall be held in honor.” 23 And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.

Chapter 6
The Ark Brought to Jerusalem. 1 David again gathered all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand in all. 2 Then he set forth with his entire force to Baalah of Judah to bring up from there the Ark of God, which bears the name of the Lord of hosts who is enthroned above the cherubim.
3 They placed the Ark of God on a new cart and brought it forth from the house of Abinadab, which stood on the hill. Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart. 4 Uzzah walked alongside the Ark of God, with Ahio walking in front. 5 David and the entire house of Israel danced joyfully before the Lord with all their might, singing to the accompaniment of lyres, harps, tambourines, castanets, and cymbals.
6 When they arrived at the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached out his hand to the Ark of God and steadied it because the oxen were stumbling. 7 This aroused the Lord’s anger against Uzzah because of his irreverent act, and he died there beside the Ark of God. 8 David became greatly upset because the Lord had vented his anger against Uzzah, and to this very day that place is called Perez-uzzah.
9 David greatly feared the Lord that day, and he said: “How can the Ark of the Lord be placed in my care?” 10 Therefore, he decided not to take the Ark of the Lord to be in his care in the City of David. Instead he took it to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 11 The Ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed Obed-edom and his entire household.
12 When King David was informed that the Lord had blessed the family of Obed-edom and everything that belonged to him because of the Ark of God, David went and brought up the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the City of David amid great rejoicing.
13 When the bearers of the Ark of the Lord had advanced six steps, David sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf. 14 [a]Then, girded with a linen ephod, he danced before the Lord with all his might, 15 as he and all the Israelites brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the blowing of trumpets.
16 As the Ark of the Lord entered the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, watched from a window. When she saw King David leaping and whirling around before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.
17 They brought in the Ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had erected for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings in the name of the Lord of hosts. 18 When he had finished making these offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts. 19 Then he distributed food to all of the people, both men and women, giving to each person in the multitude a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a raisin cake. Then all the people returned to their homes.
20 When David returned to bless his household, Michal, the daughter of Saul, came out to meet him. She said: “What an exhibition the king of Israel has made of himself today, exposing himself in the view of the slave girls of his followers like any vulgarian who chooses to shamelessly expose himself before them!”[b]
21 David replied to Michal: “I was dancing in gratitude for the Lord, not for them. The Lord chose me instead of your father and his entire family and appointed me as leader over Israel, the people of the Lord. I shall continue to dance before the Lord in gratitude, 22 and I will demean myself even more. I will be lowly in your esteem, but I will be held in honor by those slave girls of whom you speak.”
23 Saul’s daughter Michal had no children to the day of her death.
