22 És királylyá tevék Jeruzsálem lakosai helyette az õ legkisebb fiát Akháziát; mert az idõsebbeket mind megölték azok, a kik az Arábiabeliekkel jöttek vala a táborba. Uralkodék azért Akházia, Jórámnak a Júda királyának fia.
2 Akházia negyvenkét esztendõs volt, mikor királylyá lett, és egy esztendeig uralkodék Jeruzsálemben. Anyjának neve Athália volt, a ki az Omri leánya vala.
3 Õ is az Akháb házának útjain jára; mert az õ anyja vala néki tanácsadója az istentelen cselekedetre.
4 És gonoszul cselekedék az Úr szemei elõtt, miképen az Akháb háznépe, mert azok voltak tanácsadói atyja halála után, az õ veszedelmére.
5 Sõt azoknak tanácsa után indulva, hadba méne Jórámmal az Akháb fiával az Izráel királyával Hazáel ellen a Siriabeli király ellen, Rámóth Gileádba; de a Siriabeliek Jórámot megverék.
6 Visszatért azért [Jórám,] hogy meggyógyíttassa magát Jezréel városában; mert sebek [valának rajta,] melyekkel megsebesíttetett Rámában, mikor Hazáel ellen, Siria királya ellen harczolt. Akházia pedig, Jórámnak a Júda királyának fia, aláméne, hogy meglátogatná Jórámot, az Akháb fiát Jezréelben, mert beteg vala.
7 Hogy Akházia Jórámhoz méne, Isten [akaratából,] az õ romlása vala, mert odaérkezvén, elméne Jórámmal Jéhu ellen, a ki a Nimsi fia volt, a kit az Úr felkenetett, hogy kiírtaná az Akháb háznépét.
8 Lõn azért, mikor Jéhu az Akháb házán bosszút álla, rátalált a Júda fejedelmeire és az Akházia testvéreinek fiaira, a kik Akháziának szolgálnak vala, és megölé õket.
9 Akháziát is keresé és megfogák õt, (ki Samariában rejtõzött vala el) és vivék õt Jéhuhoz, a ki megöleté õt. De eltemették, mert ezt mondják róla: [Mégis] a Jósafát fia volt, a ki teljes szívvel keresé az Urat. És nem vala immár senki az Akházia háznépe közül a ki képes lett volna a királyságra.
10 És Athália az Akházia anyja, látván, hogy az õ fia meghalt: felkele és megölé a Júda háznépének minden királyi sarját.
11 De Jósabát a király leánya vevé Joást az Akházia fiát, és kivivé õt titkon a király fiai közül, a kik megölettek, és elrejté õt és az õ dajkáját az ágyasházban. És elrejté õt Jósabát, a Jórám király leánya, a ki a Jójada pap felesége volt, (mert Akháziának huga vala) Athália elõl, hogy õt meg ne ölhesse.
12 És náluk vala az Úr házában elrejtve hat esztendeig. Athália pedig uralkodék az ország felett.

Ahaziah Reigns in Judah(A)
22 Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made (B)Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, for the raiders who came with the (C)Arabians into the camp had killed all the (D)older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, reigned. 2 Ahaziah was [a]forty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was (E)Athaliah the [b]granddaughter of Omri. 3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother advised him to do wickedly. 4 Therefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab; for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction. 5 He also followed their advice, and went with [c]Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram. 6 (F)Then he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which he had received at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And [d]Azariah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
7 His going to Joram (G)was God’s occasion for Ahaziah’s [e]downfall; for when he arrived, (H)he went out with [f]Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, (I)whom the Lord had anointed to [g]cut off the house of Ahab. 8 And it happened, when Jehu was (J)executing judgment on the house of Ahab, and (K)found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers who served Ahaziah, that he killed them. 9 (L)Then he searched for Ahaziah; and they caught him (he was hiding in Samaria), and brought him to Jehu. When they had killed him, they buried him, “because,” they said, “he is the son of (M)Jehoshaphat, who (N)sought the Lord with all his heart.”
So the house of Ahaziah had no one to assume power over the kingdom.
Athaliah Reigns in Judah(O)
10 (P)Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs of the house of Judah. 11 But [h]Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took (Q)Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were being murdered, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she did not kill him. 12 And he was hidden with them in the house of God for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.

Chapter 22
Ahaziah. 1 The people of Jerusalem then chose Jehoram’s youngest son Ahaziah[a] as his successor, since the troops who had come into the camp with the Arabs had killed all the older sons. Thus Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram, reigned as King of Judah.
2 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he ascended the throne, and he reigned in Jerusalem for one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri. 3 He too followed the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother encouraged him to pursue evil practices. 4 [b]To his own destruction he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for after his father’s death they became his advisors.
5 Ahaziah even followed their advice when he made an alliance with Jehoram, the son of King Ahab of Israel, to make war against King Hazael of Aram, at Ramoth-gilead. In that conflict Jehoram was wounded by the Arameans. 6 As a result, Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to visit Jehoram, the son of Ahab, in Jezreel.
7 However, it was ordained by God that the visit of Ahaziah to Jehoram should be the occasion of his downfall. For when he arrived there, he went forth with Jehoram to meet Jehu, the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab. 8 While Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, he also encountered the officials of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s brothers, and he killed them.
9 Then Jehu went forth in search of Ahaziah, and his men captured him while he was hiding in Samaria. They brought Ahaziah to Jehu, who put him to death. However, they buried him, for they said: “He was the grandson of Jehoshaphat who sought the Lord with all his heart.” As a result, there was no one remaining from the house of Ahaziah who was strong enough to rule.
10 When Athaliah, the mother of Ahaziah, was told that her son was dead, she was determined to destroy all the royal offspring of the house of Judah. 11 However, Jehosheba, the daughter of King Jehoram, secretly took Joash, the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were about to be killed, and she put him with his nurse in a bedroom.
In this way, Jehosheba, who was the daughter of King Jehoram and the wife of Jehoiada the priest, as well as a sister of Ahaziah, hid Joash from Athaliah so that she was unable to kill him. 12 Joash remained hidden with them in the house of God for six years while Athaliah reigned over the land.
