1 亚哈死后，摩押背叛以色列。 2 亚哈谢在撒马利亚，一日从楼上的栏杆里掉下来，就病了。于是差遣使者说：“你们去问以革伦的神巴力西卜，我这病能好不能好。” 3 但耶和华的使者对提斯比人以利亚说：“你起来，去迎着撒马利亚王的使者，对他们说：‘你们去问以革伦神巴力西卜，岂因以色列中没有神吗？’ 4 所以耶和华如此说：‘你必不下你所上的床，必定要死。’”以利亚就去了。
5 使者回来见王，王问他们说：“你们为什么回来呢？” 6 使者回答说：“有一个人迎着我们来，对我们说：‘你们回去见差你们来的王，对他说：“耶和华如此说：你差人去问以革伦神巴力西卜，岂因以色列中没有神吗？所以你必不下所上的床，必定要死。”’” 7 王问他们说：“迎着你们来告诉你们这话的，是怎样的人？” 8 回答说：“他身穿毛衣，腰束皮带。”王说：“这必是提斯比人以利亚。”

Ahaziah Consults Baal-zebub. 1 After Ahab’s death, Moab rebelled against Israel.
2 Now Ahaziah had fallen down through the lattice of his upper chamber in Samaria and he was injured, so he sent messengers, saying, “Go to Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, to inquire as to whether I will recover from this illness or not.”[a]
3 But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Arise, go up to meet the king of Samaria’s messengers and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no god in Israel that you are going to make inquiry of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?’ 4 Therefore, thus says the Lord: You shall not rise from the bed on which you lie; you will surely die.” Then Elijah departed.
5 The messengers then returned to him. He said to them, “Why have you come back?” 6 They answered him, “A man came up to meet us and he said, ‘Return to the king who sent you and say: Thus says the Lord: Is it because there is no god in Israel that you have sent to make inquiry of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? You shall not rise from the bed on which you lie; you will surely die.’ ”
7 The king asked them, “What sort of man was this who came up to meet you and who said these words to you?” 8 They replied, “He was wearing a garment made from hair[b] and a leather belt around his waist.” He said, “It was Elijah the Tishbite!”
9 The king then sent a captain of fifty along with his fifty men. He went up to him, and he found him sitting on a hilltop. He said to him, “O man of God, the king orders you, ‘Come down!’ ” 10 Elijah answered the captain of the fifty men, saying, “If I am truly a man of God, then let fire come down from the heavens and consume you and your fifty men.” Fire then came down from the heavens and it consumed him and his fifty men.
11 He sent another captain of fifty along with his fifty men. He said to him, “O man of God, this is what the king says, ‘Come down at once!’ ” 12 Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from the heavens and consume you and your fifty men.” Then God’s fire came down from the heavens and consumed him and his fifty men.
13 And so a third time he sent a captain of fifty along with his fifty men. The third captain of the fifty came and fell on his knees before Elijah and pleaded with him saying, “O man of God, please let my life and the lives of these fifty men, your servants, be considered to be precious in your sight. 14 Behold, fire has come down from the heavens, and it has consumed the previous two captains of the fifty along with their fifty men. Let my life be precious in your sight.”
15 The angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Do not be afraid of him.” So he went down with him to the king. 16 He said to the king, “Thus says the Lord: Is it because there is no God in Israel of whom you can inquire that you have sent messengers to make inquiry of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Because of this, you shall not rise from the bed on which you lie. You will surely die!”
17 He died, fulfilling the word of the Lord that Elijah had proclaimed. Because he had no son, Joram reigned in his stead during the second year of the reign of Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah. 18 As for the rest of the deeds of Ahaziah, what he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Ahaziah’s Sickness and Death
1 After Ahab’s death, Moab(A) rebelled against Israel.(B) 2 Ahaziah(C) had fallen through the latticed window of his upstairs room in Samaria(D) and was injured. So he sent messengers, instructing them, “Go inquire of Baal-zebub,[a](E) the god of Ekron,(F) whether I will recover from this injury.”(G)
3 But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite,(H) “Go and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria(I) and say to them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? 4 Therefore, this is what the Lord says: You will not get up from your sickbed; you will certainly die.’” Then Elijah left.
5 The messengers returned to the king, who asked them, “Why have you come back?”
6 They replied, “A man came to meet us and said, ‘Go back to the king who sent you and declare to him, “This is what the Lord says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you’re sending these men to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore, you will not get up from your sickbed; you will certainly die.”’”
7 The king asked them, “What sort of man came up to meet you and spoke those words to you?”
8 They replied, “A hairy man with a leather belt around his waist.”(J)
He said, “It’s Elijah the Tishbite.”(K)
9 So King Ahaziah sent a captain with his fifty men(L) to Elijah. When the captain went up to him, he was sitting on top of the hill. He announced, “Man of God,(M) the king declares, ‘Come down!’”
10 Elijah responded to the captain, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” Then fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.(N)
11 So the king sent another captain with his fifty men to Elijah. He took in the situation[b] and announced, “Man of God, this is what the king says: ‘Come down immediately!’”
12 Elijah responded, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” So a divine fire[c] came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty men.
13 Then the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. The third captain went up and fell on his knees in front of Elijah and begged him, “Man of God,(O) please let my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours be precious to you.(P) 14 Already fire has come down from heaven and consumed the first two captains with their companies, but this time let my life be precious to you.”
15 The angel of the Lord(Q) said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Don’t be afraid of him.”(R) So he got up and went down with him to the king.
16 Then Elijah said to King Ahaziah, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel for you to inquire of his will?—you will not get up from your sickbed; you will certainly die.’”
17 Ahaziah died according to the word of the Lord that Elijah had spoken. Since he had no son, Joram[d](S) became king in his place. This happened in the second year of Judah’s King Jehoram(T) son of Jehoshaphat.[e] 18 The rest of the events of Ahaziah’s reign, along with his accomplishments, are written in the Historical Record of Israel’s Kings.[f](U)
