11 耶和華對摩西說：「我給法老和埃及再降下一場災難，之後他必放你們走，甚至是迫不及待地趕你們走。 2 你要告訴以色列人，不論男女，去向鄰近的埃及人索取金器銀器。」 3 耶和華使埃及人恩待以色列人，法老的臣僕和百姓極其尊重摩西。
4 摩西說：「耶和華說，『今晚半夜，我要走遍埃及。 5 埃及境內，從坐王位的法老的長子到推磨的女奴的長子，以及所有頭生的牲畜，都必死亡。 6 那時整個埃及必充滿悲慘的哭號聲，慘況空前絕後。 7 但在以色列人中，連狗也不會向人或牲畜吠叫，這樣你們就知道耶和華將把埃及人和以色列人分開。 8 到那天，你所有的臣僕都要來俯伏在我面前，求我和跟隨我的百姓離開這裡。那時我才會離開。』」摩西說完便怒氣沖沖地離開法老。 9 耶和華曾對摩西說：「法老一定不肯聽你的話，因此我要在埃及多行神蹟。」 10 摩西和亞倫在法老面前行了這一切的神蹟，但耶和華使法老的心剛硬，他不讓以色列人離開他的國土。

The First-Born Die
11 The Lord said to Moses, “I will bring trouble upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt one more time. After that he will let you go. He will not only let you go, but he will make you leave. 2 Tell the people that each man should ask his neighbor and each woman ask her neighbor for things made of silver and gold.” 3 Then the Lord gave the people favor in the eyes of the Egyptians. And the man Moses was respected in the land of Egypt, in the eyes of Pharaoh’s servants and the people.
4 Moses said, “The Lord says this: ‘About midnight I will go through Egypt. 5 And all the first-born in the land of Egypt will die, from the first-born of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the first-born of the servant girl grinding the grain, and even the first-born of the cattle. 6 There will be loud crying in all the land of Egypt, more than has ever been heard before or will ever be heard again. 7 Not even a dog will make a sound against those of Israel, man or animal, so you may know that the Lord divides Egypt from Israel.’ 8 All these who are your servants will come to me and bow in front of me. They will say, ‘Go away, you and all the people who follow you.’ After that I will go.” And he went away from Pharaoh very angry. 9 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Pharaoh will not listen to you. So I will do more powerful works in the land of Egypt.” 10 Moses and Aaron did all these great works in front of Pharaoh. But the Lord made Pharaoh’s heart hard. He did not let the people of Israel leave his land.

11 Då sa Herren till Mose: ”Jag ska sända ännu en plåga över farao och Egypten, och sedan ska han låta er gå. Han kommer till och med att jaga er ut ur landet. 2 Säg nu till alla män och kvinnor att de ska be att få föremål av silver och guld av sina grannar.”
3 Herren gjorde nämligen så att egypterna tyckte bra om Israels folk. Mose var en stor man i Egypten, och både faraos hovmän och folket i allmänhet såg upp till honom.
4 Mose sa nu[a] till farao: ”Så säger Herren: ’Vid midnatt ska jag gå fram genom Egypten. 5 Allt förstfött i Egypten ska dö, från härskaren faraos förstfödde till den förstfödde av slavinnan vid handkvarnen och till och med de förstfödda bland boskapen. 6 En dödsklagan kommer att höras över hela landet. Aldrig tidigare har man hört något sådant, och man kommer aldrig att få höra det igen. 7 Mot Israels folk däremot ska inte ens en hund morra[b] vare sig mot människor eller djur.’ Då ska ni inse att Herren gör skillnad mellan egypterna och israeliterna. 8 Alla dina hovmän ska komma till mig och buga och säga: ’Var snäll och lämna oss genast, och ta med allt folket!’ Efter det ska jag ge mig iväg.” Sedan gick Mose därifrån, full av vrede.
9 Herren sade till Mose: ”Farao kommer inte att lyssna på dig, så att jag får utföra fler under i Egypten.” 10 Fastän Mose och Aron utförde dessa under mitt framför ögonen på farao, gjorde Herren honom hård och orubblig, och han vägrade låta folket lämna landet.
