26 В началото на царуването на Юдовия цар Иоаким, Иосиевия син, дойде това слово от Господа, което рече:
2 Така казва Господ: Застани в двора на Господния дом та изговори на всичките Юдови градове, които дохождат да се покланят в Господния дом, всичките думи, които ти заповядвам да им говориш; не задържай ни една дума.
3 Може би ще послушат, и всеки ще се върне от нечестивия си път, за да се разкае за злото, което възнамерявам да им сторя поради лошите им дела.
4 И да им речеш: Така казва Господ: Ако не Ме послушате да ходите в закона Ми, който поставих пред вас,
5 да слушате думите на слугите Ми пророците, които пращам при вас, като ставам рано и ги пращам, (но вие не послушахте),
6 тогава ще направя тоя дом като Сило, и ще направя тоя град предмет, с който всичките народи на света ще кълнат.
7 А свещениците, пророците, и всичките люде чуха Еремия като говореше тия думи в Господния дом.
8 И като свърши Еремия да говори всичко, което Господ му бе заповядал да каже на всичките люде, тогава свещениците, пророците и всичките люде го хванаха и думаха: Непременно ще бъдеш умъртвен.
9 Ти защо пророкува в Господното име, като рече: Тоя дом ще стане като Сило, и тоя град ще се запусти, та да няма жител? И всичките люде се събраха около Еремия в Господния дом.
10 И Юдовите първенци, като чуха това нещо, възлязоха от царския дворец в Господния дом, и седнаха във входа на новата порта на Господния дом.
11 Тогава свещениците и пророците говориха на първенците и на всичките люде, казвайки: Този човек заслужава да бъде умъртвен, защото пророкува против тоя град, както чухте с ушите си.
12 Тогава Еремия говори на всичките първенци и на всичките люде, като рече: Господ ме изпрати да пророкувам против тоя дом и против тоя град всичките думи, които чухте.
13 Затова, сега оправете постъпките и делата си, и послушайте гласа на Господа вашия Бог; и Господ ще се разкае за злото, което е изговорил против вас.
14 А за мене, ето, съм в ръката ви; направете ми каквото ми се вижда за добро и угодно.
15 Но добре да знаете, че, ако ме умъртвите, то ще докарате невинна кръв върху себе си, върху тоя град, и върху жителите му; защото наистина Господ ме прати при вас да говоря в ушите ви всички тия думи.
16 Тогава първенците и всичките люде рекоха на свещениците и на пророците: Тоя човек не заслужава да бъде умъртвен; защото ни говори в името на Господа нашия Бог.
17 Тогава някой от местните старейшини станаха та говориха на всичките събрани люде, като казаха:
18 Михей моресетецът пророкуваше в дните на Юдовия цар Езекия, като говори на всичките Юдови люде, думайки: Така казва Господ на Силите: Сион ще се изоре като нива, Ерусалим ще стане грамади от развалини, и хълмът на дома като високи места на лес.
19 Умъртвиха ли го Юдовият цар Езекия и целият Юда? Не убоя ли се той от Господа, и не умилостиви ли Господа, та Господ се разкая за злото, което беше изрекъл против тях? Ние прочее бихме причинили голямо зло на своите души.
20 А имаше и друг човек, Урия Семаиевият Син от Кириатиарим, който пророкуваше в Господното име; и пророкуваше против тоя град и против тая страна със същите думи както и Еремия.
21 И когато цар Иоаким, всичките му силни мъже, и всичките първенци чуха думите му, царят търсеше случай да го умъртви; а Урия, като чу, уплаши се, побягна, та отиде в Египет.
22 А цар Иоаким прати мъже в Египет, Елнатана, Аховоровия син, и известни мъже с него в Египет,
23 та изведоха Урия из Египет, и го доведоха при цар Иоакима, който го порази с нож и хвърли трупа му в гробищата на простолюдието.
24 Но ръката на Ахикама Сафановия син бе с Еремия, за да го не предадат в ръката на людете, та да го убият.

26 (A)В началото на царуването на юдейския цар Йоаким, син на Йосия, Господ отправи към Йеремия това слово: 2 (B)„Така казва Господ: ‘Застани в двора на Господния дом и обяви към всичките юдейски градове, които идват на поклонение в дома на Господ, всичките думи, които ти заповядвам да им говориш. Не пропускай нито една дума! 3 (C)Може би ще се вслушат и всеки ще се отвърне от нечестивия си път, та да се разкая за бедствието, което Аз Самият възнамерявам да им сторя заради злодеянията им. 4 (D)И им речи: «Така казва Господ: Ако не Ме послушате и не постъпвате според закона Ми, който ви дадох, 5 (E)да се вслушвате в думите на Моите служители – пророците, които Аз ви изпращах постоянно, а вие не ги слушате, 6 (F)тогава ще направя този дом като Сило и името на този град – за проклинане от всички народи на земята»’!“
7 А свещениците, пророците и целият народ чуха Йеремия, който говореше тези думи в Господния дом. 8 Когато Йеремия свърши да говори всичко, което Господ му беше заповядал да каже на целия народ, тогава свещениците, пророците и всичките народни старейшини го грабнаха, като казваха: „Убийте го! 9 Защо пророкува от името на Господ и казва: ‘Този дом ще стане като храма в Сило и този град ще бъде опустошен без обитатели’?“ И целият народ се струпа около Йеремия в Господния храм.
10 А когато юдейските първенци чуха тези думи, изкачиха се от царския дворец в Господния дом и седнаха при входа на Новата порта на Господния храм. 11 Тогава свещениците и пророците казаха на първенците и на целия народ: „Този човек заслужава смъртна присъда, защото пророкува против този град, както чухте с ушите си.“
12 Тогава Йеремия каза на всички първенци и на целия народ: „Господ ме прати да пророкувам против този дом и против този град всичките думи, които чухте. 13 Затова сега поправете постъпките си и делата си и се вслушайте в гласа на Господ, вашия Бог. Тогава Господ ще отмени бедствието, което е изрекъл против вас. 14 А ето аз съм във вашите ръце. Правете с мене каквото смятате за добро и справедливо. 15 Но добре да знаете, че ако вие ме умъртвите, ще отговаряте за невинна кръв вие, градът и жителите му, защото наистина Господ ме изпрати да кажа всички тези думи на вас, за да чуете.“
16 Тогава първенците и целият народ казаха на свещениците и на пророците: „Този човек не заслужава смъртна присъда, защото ни е говорил в името на Господ, нашия Бог.“ 17 Тогава някои от старейшините на страната станаха и казаха на цялото събрание на народа: 18 (G)„Михей Мораситецът беше пророкувал в дните на юдейския цар Езекия и казал на целия народ на Юдея: ‘Така казва Господ Вседържител: «Сион ще бъде разоран като нива и Йерусалим ще стане грамада от развалини, а храмовият хълм – като залесено оброчище»’.
19 Умъртвиха ли го затова юдейският цар Езекия и цяла Юдея? Не се ли уплаши царят от Господ и не Го ли моли, та Господ съжали за бедствието, което е изрекъл против тях? А ние ще навлечем на душите си голямо зло.“
Смъртта на пророк Урия
20 А имаше и друг човек, който пророкуваше в името на Господ – Урия, син на Шемая, от Кириат-Ярим. Той пророкуваше против този град и против тази страна, подобно на Йеремия. 21 И когато цар Йоаким и всички негови велможи, и всичките първенци чуха думите му, царят нареди да го умъртвят. А Урия, като чу, уплаши се, побягна и отиде в Египет. 22 Но цар Йоаким изпрати мъже в Египет: Елнатан, син на Ахбор, и други мъже с него; 23 и те изведоха Урия от Египет и го доведоха при цар Йоаким. Тогава той го уби с меч и хвърли трупа му в гробището за обикновените хора.
24 Обаче Ахикам, син на Шафан, закриляше Йеремия да не го предадат в ръцете на старейшините на народа, за да го убият.

Jeremiah’s Prophecies in the Temple
26 At the beginning of the reign of King Jehoiakim son of Josiah of Judah, this word came from the Lord: 2 Thus says the Lord: Stand in the court of the Lord’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of the Lord; speak to them all the words that I command you; do not hold back a word. 3 It may be that they will listen, all of them, and will turn from their evil way, that I may change my mind about the disaster that I intend to bring on them because of their evil doings. 4 You shall say to them: Thus says the Lord: If you will not listen to me, to walk in my law that I have set before you, 5 and to heed the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you urgently—though you have not heeded— 6 then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city a curse for all the nations of the earth.
7 The priests and the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the Lord. 8 And when Jeremiah had finished speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, then the priests and the prophets and all the people laid hold of him, saying, “You shall die! 9 Why have you prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, ‘This house shall be like Shiloh, and this city shall be desolate, without inhabitant’?” And all the people gathered around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.
10 When the officials of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to the house of the Lord and took their seat in the entry of the New Gate of the house of the Lord. 11 Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, “This man deserves the sentence of death because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.”
12 Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and all the people, saying, “It is the Lord who sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the words you have heard. 13 Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the Lord your God, and the Lord will change his mind about the disaster that he has pronounced against you. 14 But as for me, here I am in your hands. Do with me as seems good and right to you. 15 Only know for certain that if you put me to death, you will be bringing innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and its inhabitants, for in truth the Lord sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.”
16 Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.” 17 And some of the elders of the land arose and said to all the assembled people, 18 “Micah of Moresheth, who prophesied during the days of King Hezekiah of Judah, said to all the people of Judah: ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts,
Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the house a wooded height.’
19 Did King Hezekiah of Judah and all Judah actually put him to death? Did he not fear the Lord and entreat the favor of the Lord, and did not the Lord change his mind about the disaster that he had pronounced against them? But we are about to bring great disaster on ourselves!”
20 There was another man prophesying in the name of the Lord, Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He prophesied against this city and against this land in words exactly like those of Jeremiah. 21 And when King Jehoiakim, with all his warriors and all the officials, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death; but when Uriah heard of it, he was afraid and fled and escaped to Egypt. 22 Then King Jehoiakim sent[a] Elnathan son of Achbor and men with him to Egypt, 23 and they took Uriah from Egypt and brought him to King Jehoiakim, who struck him down with the sword and threw his dead body into the burial place of the common people.
24 But the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan was with Jeremiah so that he was not given over into the hands of the people to be put to death.

26 Early in the reign of Jehoiakim(A) son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came from the Lord: 2 “This is what the Lord says: Stand in the courtyard(B) of the Lord’s house and speak to all the people of the towns of Judah who come to worship in the house of the Lord.(C) Tell(D) them everything I command you; do not omit(E) a word. 3 Perhaps they will listen and each will turn(F) from their evil ways. Then I will relent(G) and not inflict on them the disaster I was planning because of the evil they have done. 4 Say to them, ‘This is what the Lord says: If you do not listen(H) to me and follow my law,(I) which I have set before you, 5 and if you do not listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I have sent to you again and again (though you have not listened(J)), 6 then I will make this house like Shiloh(K) and this city a curse[a](L) among all the nations of the earth.’”
7 The priests, the prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speak these words in the house of the Lord. 8 But as soon as Jeremiah finished telling all the people everything the Lord had commanded(M) him to say, the priests, the prophets and all the people seized(N) him and said, “You must die!(O) 9 Why do you prophesy in the Lord’s name that this house will be like Shiloh and this city will be desolate and deserted?”(P) And all the people crowded(Q) around Jeremiah in the house of the Lord.
10 When the officials(R) of Judah heard about these things, they went up from the royal palace to the house of the Lord and took their places at the entrance of the New Gate(S) of the Lord’s house. 11 Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man should be sentenced to death(T) because he has prophesied against this city. You have heard it with your own ears!”(U)
12 Then Jeremiah said to all the officials(V) and all the people: “The Lord sent me to prophesy(W) against this house and this city all the things you have heard.(X) 13 Now reform(Y) your ways and your actions and obey(Z) the Lord your God. Then the Lord will relent(AA) and not bring the disaster he has pronounced against you. 14 As for me, I am in your hands;(AB) do with me whatever you think is good and right. 15 Be assured, however, that if you put me to death, you will bring the guilt of innocent blood(AC) on yourselves and on this city and on those who live in it, for in truth the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words(AD) in your hearing.”
16 Then the officials(AE) and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man should not be sentenced to death!(AF) He has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”
17 Some of the elders of the land stepped forward and said to the entire assembly of people, 18 “Micah(AG) of Moresheth prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. He told all the people of Judah, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“‘Zion(AH) will be plowed like a field,
Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble,(AI)
the temple hill(AJ) a mound overgrown with thickets.’[b](AK)
19 “Did Hezekiah king of Judah or anyone else in Judah put him to death? Did not Hezekiah(AL) fear the Lord and seek(AM) his favor? And did not the Lord relent,(AN) so that he did not bring the disaster(AO) he pronounced against them? We are about to bring a terrible disaster(AP) on ourselves!”
20 (Now Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath Jearim(AQ) was another man who prophesied in the name of the Lord; he prophesied the same things against this city and this land as Jeremiah did. 21 When King Jehoiakim(AR) and all his officers and officials(AS) heard his words, the king was determined to put him to death.(AT) But Uriah heard of it and fled(AU) in fear to Egypt. 22 King Jehoiakim, however, sent Elnathan(AV) son of Akbor to Egypt, along with some other men. 23 They brought Uriah out of Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him struck down with a sword(AW) and his body thrown into the burial place of the common people.)(AX)
24 Furthermore, Ahikam(AY) son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, and so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.
