14 Poi Gesù disse ancora: «Non siate tristi. Abbiate fede in Dio e abbiate fede anche in me. 2-3 Lassù, nella casa di mio Padre ci sono molti posti: vado a prepararne uno per il vostro arrivo. Quando tutto sarà pronto, tornerò a prendervi, così potrete stare sempre con me. Se non fosse così, ve lo direi chiaramente. 4 Ora sapete dove vado e conoscete anche la strada». 5 Tommaso ribatté: «Signore, noi non abbiamo la più pallida idea di dove stai andando, come facciamo a conoscere la strada?»
6 Gesù gli disse: «Io sono la via, la verità e la vita. Nessuno può venire al Padre, se non per mezzo mio. 7 Se mi aveste conosciuto, avreste anche saputo chi è il Padre, anzi, fin da ora lo conoscete e lo avete già visto!»
8 Filippo disse: «Signore, facci vedere il Padre e saremo soddisfatti!»
9 Gesù rispose: «Dopo tutto il tempo che ho passato con voi, non sai ancora chi sono io, Filippo? Chi ha visto me, ha visto il Padre. Perché, allora, mi chiedete di vederlo? 10 Non credi, forse, che io vivo nel Padre ed il Padre vive in me? Le parole che dico non sono mie, ma di mio Padre, che vive ed agisce attraverso di me. 11 Credetemi, quando vi dico che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me, se no, credete in me per i grandi miracoli che mi avete visto compiere!
12-13 In tutta sincerità, vi dico che chi crede in me farà gli stessi miracoli che faccio io, anzi più grandi ancora, infatti io ritorno dal Padre e qualsiasi cosa chiederete nel mio nome, io la farò. Questo glorificherà il Padre, proprio perché io, il Figlio, la farò per voi. 14 Quindi, chiedete qualunque cosa nel mio nome, ed io la farò!
Gesù promette lo Spirito Santo
15-16 Se mi amate, mi ubbidirete ed io pregherò il Padre che vi dia un Consolatore, che non vi abbandoni mai più. 17 Parlo dello Spirito Santo, lo Spirito della verità. Il mondo non può riceverlo, perché non lo vede e non lo conosce. Voi sì, perché vive con voi, e un giorno sarà in voi. 18 No, non vi abbandonerò, né vi lascerò orfani. Tornerò da voi. 19 Fra poco me ne andrò dal mondo, ma rimarrò presso di voi. Perché io vivo ed anche voi vivrete. 20 Quando resusciterò, saprete senza ombra di dubbio che io vivo unito al Padre, come voi siete uniti a me, ed io a voi. 21 Chi mi ubbidisce, mi ama; e chi ama me sarà amato da mio Padre, ed anchʼio lo amerò e mi farò conoscere da lui».
22 Giuda, non Giuda Iscariota, ma lʼaltro con lo stesso nome, gli domandò: «Signore, come mai vuoi farti conoscere soltanto da noi, tuoi discepoli, e non dal mondo?»
23 Gesù rispose: «Perché mi rivelerò a quelli che mi amano e mi ubbidiscono. Anche il Padre li amerà e insieme, il Padre ed io, staremo con loro. 24 Chi non mi ama, non mi ubbidisce. E badate, non sono io che rispondo alla vostra domanda. Questa è la risposta del Padre, che mi ha mandato! 25 Vi dico queste cose adesso, mentre sono ancora con voi. 26 Ma quando il Padre manderà al mio posto il Consolatore e, dicendo Consolatore, intendo lo Spirito Santo, egli vʼinsegnerà ogni cosa e vi ricorderà tutto ciò che vi ho detto.
27 Vi lascio un dono: la pace della mente e del cuore! E la pace che do io non è fragile come la pace che dà il mondo. Quindi, non siate tristi, non abbiate paura! 28 Ricordate le mie parole: ora me ne vado, ma tornerò da voi. Se davvero mi amate, dovreste essere contenti per me, perché ora posso andare dal Padre, che è più grande di me. 29 Vi ho detto queste cose prima che sʼavverino, così quando accadranno, crederete in me.
30 Non mi resta molto tempo per parlare con voi, perché Satana, il malvagio principe di questo mondo, sʼavvicina. Per la verità, non ha alcun potere su di me. 31 Sarò io a fare di mia volontà ciò che il Padre vuole da me, così il mondo saprà che amo il Padre. Venite, andiamo!»

14 μη ταρασσεσθω υμων η καρδια πιστευετε εις τον θεον και εις εμε πιστευετε
2 εν τη οικια του πατρος μου μοναι πολλαι εισιν ει δε μη ειπον αν υμιν οτι πορευομαι ετοιμασαι τοπον υμιν
3 και εαν πορευθω και ετοιμασω τοπον υμιν παλιν ερχομαι και παραλημψομαι υμας προς εμαυτον ινα οπου ειμι εγω και υμεις ητε
4 και οπου εγω υπαγω οιδατε την οδον
5 λεγει αυτω θωμας κυριε ουκ οιδαμεν που υπαγεις πως οιδαμεν την οδον
6 λεγει αυτω ιησους εγω ειμι η οδος και η αληθεια και η ζωη ουδεις ερχεται προς τον πατερα ει μη δι εμου
7 ει εγνωκειτε με και τον πατερα μου αν ηδειτε απ αρτι γινωσκετε αυτον και εωρακατε

11 πιστευετε μοι οτι εγω εν τω πατρι και ο πατηρ εν εμοι ει δε μη δια τα εργα αυτα πιστευετε
12 αμην αμην λεγω υμιν ο πιστευων εις εμε τα εργα α εγω ποιω κακεινος ποιησει και μειζονα τουτων ποιησει οτι εγω προς τον πατερα πορευομαι
13 και ο τι αν αιτησητε εν τω ονοματι μου τουτο ποιησω ινα δοξασθη ο πατηρ εν τω υιω
14 εαν τι αιτησητε [με] εν τω ονοματι μου τουτο ποιησω
15 εαν αγαπατε με τας εντολας τας εμας τηρησετε
16 καγω ερωτησω τον πατερα και αλλον παρακλητον δωσει υμιν ινα η μεθ υμων εις τον αιωνα
17 το πνευμα της αληθειας ο ο κοσμος ου δυναται λαβειν οτι ου θεωρει αυτο ουδε γινωσκει υμεις γινωσκετε αυτο οτι παρ υμιν μενει και εν υμιν εστιν
18 ουκ αφησω υμας ορφανους ερχομαι προς υμας
19 ετι μικρον και ο κοσμος με ουκετι θεωρει υμεις δε θεωρειτε με οτι εγω ζω και υμεις ζησετε
20 εν εκεινη τη ημερα υμεις γνωσεσθε οτι εγω εν τω πατρι μου και υμεις εν εμοι καγω εν υμιν
21 ο εχων τας εντολας μου και τηρων αυτας εκεινος εστιν ο αγαπων με ο δε αγαπων με αγαπηθησεται υπο του πατρος μου καγω αγαπησω αυτον και εμφανισω αυτω εμαυτον
22 λεγει αυτω ιουδας ουχ ο ισκαριωτης κυριε τι γεγονεν οτι ημιν μελλεις εμφανιζειν σεαυτον και ουχι τω κοσμω
23 απεκριθη ιησους και ειπεν αυτω εαν τις αγαπα με τον λογον μου τηρησει και ο πατηρ μου αγαπησει αυτον και προς αυτον ελευσομεθα και μονην παρ αυτω ποιησομεθα
24 ο μη αγαπων με τους λογους μου ου τηρει και ο λογος ον ακουετε ουκ εστιν εμος αλλα του πεμψαντος με πατρος
25 ταυτα λελαληκα υμιν παρ υμιν μενων
26 ο δε παρακλητος το πνευμα το αγιον ο πεμψει ο πατηρ εν τω ονοματι μου εκεινος υμας διδαξει παντα και υπομνησει υμας παντα α ειπον υμιν εγω
27 ειρηνην αφιημι υμιν ειρηνην την εμην διδωμι υμιν ου καθως ο κοσμος διδωσιν εγω διδωμι υμιν μη ταρασσεσθω υμων η καρδια μηδε δειλιατω
28 ηκουσατε οτι εγω ειπον υμιν υπαγω και ερχομαι προς υμας ει ηγαπατε με εχαρητε αν οτι πορευομαι προς τον πατερα οτι ο πατηρ μειζων μου εστιν
29 και νυν ειρηκα υμιν πριν γενεσθαι ινα οταν γενηται πιστευσητε
30 ουκετι πολλα λαλησω μεθ υμων ερχεται γαρ ο του κοσμου αρχων και εν εμοι ουκ εχει ουδεν
31 αλλ ινα γνω ο κοσμος οτι αγαπω τον πατερα και καθως εντολην εδωκεν μοι ο πατηρ ουτως ποιω εγειρεσθε αγωμεν εντευθεν

14 «Il vostro cuore non sia turbato; credete in Dio e credete anche in me.
2 Nella casa del Padre mio ci sono molte dimore; se no, ve lo avrei detto; io vado a prepararvi un posto.
3 E quando sarò andato e vi avrò preparato il posto, ritornerò e vi accoglierò presso di me, affinché dove sono io siate anche voi.
4 Voi sapete dove io vado e conoscete anche la via».
5 Tommaso gli disse: «Signore, noi non sappiamo dove vai; come dunque possiamo conoscere la via?»
6 Gesú gli disse: «Io sono la via, la verità e la vita; nessuno viene al Padre se non per mezzo di me.
7 Se mi aveste conosciuto, avreste conosciuto anche mio Padre; fin da ora lo conoscete e l'avete visto».
8 Filippo gli disse: «Signore, mostraci il Padre e ci basta».
9 Gesú gli disse: «Da tanto tempo io sono con voi e tu non mi hai ancora conosciuto, Filippo? Chi ha visto me, ha visto il Padre; come mai dici: "Mostraci il Padre?"
10 Non credi che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me? Le parole che io vi dico, non le dico da me stesso. Il Padre che dimora in me è colui che fa le opere.
11 Credetemi che io sono nel Padre e che il Padre è in me, se no, credetemi a motivo delle opere stesse.
12 In verità, in verità vi dico: chi crede in me farà anch'egli le opere che io faccio; anzi ne farà di piú grandi di queste, perché io vado al Padre.
13 E qualunque cosa chiederete nel nome mio la farò, affinché il Padre sia glorificato nel Figlio.
14 Se chiedete qualche cosa nel nome mio, io la farò».
15 «Se mi amate, osservate i miei comandamenti,
16 Ed io pregherò il Padre ed egli vi darà un altro Consolatore, che rimanga con voi per sempre,
17 lo Spirito della verità, che il mondo non può ricevere, perché non lo vede e non lo conosce; ma voi lo conoscete, perché dimora con voi e sarà in voi.
18 Non vi lascerò orfani; tornerò a voi.
19 Ancora un po' di tempo e il mondo non mi vedrà piú, ma voi mi vedrete; poiché io vivo, anche voi vivrete.
20 In quel giorno conoscerete che io sono nel Padre mio, e che voi siete in me ed Io in voi.
21 Chi ha i miei comandamenti e li osserva, è uno che mi ama, e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre mio; e io lo amerò e mi manifesterò a lui».
22 Giuda, non l'Iscariota, gli disse: «Signore, come mai ti manifesterai a noi e non al mondo?».
23 Gesú rispose e gli disse: «Se uno mi ama, osserverà la mia parola; e il Padre mio l'amerà, e noi verremo a lui e faremo dimora presso di lui.
24 Chi non mi ama, non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che udite non è mia, ma del Padre che mi ha mandato.
25 Vi ho detto queste cose, mentre ero con voi;
26 ma il Consolatore, lo Spirito Santo, che il Padre manderà nel mio nome, vi insegnerà ogni cosa e vi ricorderà tutto ciò che vi ho detto.
27 Io vi lascio la pace, vi do la mia pace; io ve la do, non come la dà il mondo; il vostro cuore non sia turbato e non si spaventi.
28 Avete udito che vi ho detto: "Io me ne vado e tornerò a voi". Se voi mi amaste, vi rallegrereste perché ho detto: "Io vado al Padre" poiché il Padre è piú grande di me.
29 E ora ve l'ho detto, prima che avvenga affinché, quando avverrà, crediate.
30 Non parlerò piú a lungo con voi, perché viene il principe di questo mondo e non ha nulla in me;
31 ma questo accade affinché il mondo conosca che io amo il Padre e che faccio come il Padre mi ha comandato. Alzatevi, andiamo via di qui».

Jesus Comforts His Disciples
14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled.(A) You believe(B) in God[a];(C) believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there(D) to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back(E) and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.(F) 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Jesus the Way to the Father
5 Thomas(G) said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am(H) the way(I) and the truth(J) and the life.(K) No one comes to the Father except through me.(L) 7 If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well.(M) From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip(N) said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.(O) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?(P) The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.(Q) Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.(R) 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes(S) in me will do the works I have been doing,(T) and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask(U) in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
15 “If you love me, keep my commands.(V) 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate(W) to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth.(X) The world cannot accept him,(Y) because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[c] in you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans;(Z) I will come to you.(AA) 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me.(AB) Because I live, you also will live.(AC) 20 On that day(AD) you will realize that I am in my Father,(AE) and you are in me, and I am in you.(AF) 21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.(AG) The one who loves me will be loved by my Father,(AH) and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
22 Then Judas(AI) (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?”(AJ)
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.(AK) My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.(AL) 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.(AM)
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate,(AN) the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,(AO) will teach you all things(AP) and will remind you of everything I have said to you.(AQ) 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.(AR) I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled(AS) and do not be afraid.
28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’(AT) If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father,(AU) for the Father is greater than I.(AV) 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.(AW) 30 I will not say much more to you, for the prince of this world(AX) is coming. He has no hold over me, 31 but he comes so that the world may learn that I love the Father and do exactly what my Father has commanded me.(AY)

20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
