¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that ^(A)the Light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the Light; for ^(B)their deeds were evil. ^20 (C)For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, so that his deeds will not be exposed. ²¹ But the one who ^(D)practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds will be revealed ^[a]as having been performed in God.”

Testimony of the Scripture

^39 [a](A)You examine the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is ^(B)those very Scriptures that testify about Me; ⁴⁰ and yet you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life. ^41 (C)I do not receive glory from people; ⁴² but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves. ⁴³ I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not ^[b]receive Me; ^(D)if another comes in his own name, you will ^[c]receive him. ⁴⁴ How can you believe, when you ^[d](E)accept ^[e]glory from one another and you do not seek ^(F)the ^[f]glory that is from ^(G)the one and only God?

¹⁶ So Jesus answered them and said, “^(A)My teaching is not My own, but His who sent Me. ^17 (B)If anyone is willing to do His will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is of God, or I am speaking from Myself.

Unbelief and Its Consequences

¹⁸ For ^(A)the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people who ^(B)suppress the truth ^[a]in unrighteousness, ¹⁹ because ^(C)that which is known about God is evident ^[b]within them; for God made it evident to them. ²⁰ For ^(D)since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ^(E)being understood by what has been made, so that they are without excuse. ²¹ For even though they knew God, they did not ^[c]honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became ^(F)futile in their reasonings, and their senseless hearts were darkened. ^22 (G)Claiming to be wise, they became fools, ²³ and they ^(H)exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible mankind, of birds, four-footed animals, and ^[d]crawling creatures.

²⁴ Therefore ^(I)God gave them up to vile impurity in the lusts of their hearts, so that their bodies would be ^(J)dishonored among them. ²⁵ For they exchanged the truth of God for ^[e](K)falsehood, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, ^(L)who is blessed ^[f]forever. Amen.

^6 (A)We are from God. ^(B)The one who knows God listens to us; ^(C)the one who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know ^(D)the spirit of truth and ^(E)the spirit of error.
