¹⁹ After this, he will turn back toward the fortresses of his own country but will stumble and fall,^(A) to be seen no more.^(B)

²⁰ “His successor will send out a tax collector to maintain the royal splendor.^(C) In a few years, however, he will be destroyed, yet not in anger or in battle.

²¹ “He will be succeeded by a contemptible^(D) person who has not been given the honor of royalty.^(E) He will invade the kingdom when its people feel secure, and he will seize it through intrigue.

17 Now Elijah^(A) the Tishbite, from Tishbe^[a] in Gilead,^(B) said to Ahab, “As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain^(C) in the next few years except at my word.”

⁵¹ If many years remain, they must pay for their redemption a larger share of the price paid for them. ⁵² If only a few years remain until the Year of Jubilee, they are to compute that and pay for their redemption accordingly.^{(A) 53} They are to be treated as workers hired from year to year; you must see to it that those to whom they owe service do not rule over them ruthlessly.^(B)
